I was very impressed. As I am Japanese, I watched this video while reading the English subtitles with my little knowledge. I may have only understood about half of the content, but I could feel how wonderful a singer she was. I have loved her since I was a little girl. I fell in love with opera after watching a videotape of a 1992 performance of La Traviata at a very young age and being drawn in by her powerful and beautiful voice and being mesmerized by her performance. I wish I had been born earlier so I could have heard her singing live. I am grateful that even now that she is gone, I can still learn about her accomplishments in this way.
She's been an eternal source of delightful inspiration. I've fallen in love with her voice and way of singing since I first heard her about 30 years ago. May God bless her life, her career ,and her lovely voice, keeping her able to sing and taking as to Heaven for years and years to come.

She has a delightful personality as well as beautiful voice. I loved her Gretel with Brigitte Fassbaender: very funny with some fleeting tender moments. Wonderful actress. Emotionally true , convincing.
Bel canto at its best and she can still sing so beautifully in her 60's, and never suffered vocal nodes like a lot of modern singers, who abuse their voices.
I have always admired Ms. Gruberova's singing (possessing her recordings and videos) and this you-tube really blew my mind - making a debut of a very difficult role at the age of 62!!! Stupendous!!
She just retired as a singer (actually due to Covid her last recital was on 20 Dec 2019; all 2020 concerts were cancelled). Hope she'll accept to give some masterclasses in the future.
I first learned abt Edita in my first year of college. That was more than a decade ago. I think that she's so magical, her ability, what she brings to every performance.
This lady was a force of nature! What great artist ... one of the last great Bel Canto sopranos. People criticize her, but she was just amazing! I have never seen a performance of hers on TH-cam, where the audience have not gone crazy!!! I wish I had had the chance to see her live..... Let’s hope her future masterclasses are recorded!
my dear friend, when I say, that live, it was even 10x better, it is no underestimation. She always makes me cry, because the level of artistry is just unimaginable. As written I was there, 17 years old, she always gave concerts in Bratislava her homecountry in Slovakia. Had the luck to hear hear many times. Last time was a concert edition of Norma where she was about 70... Still great!

I am neither nationalistic nor overly patriotic, BUT... For a country like Slovakia, population 5 million, to produce Gruberová, Lucia Popp, Beňačková... to name just a few... That's pretty impressive!

My grandmother Blanche Powell and great aunt Greta Rausch emigrated from Vienna to the USA, and used to book all the acts at the Met in NYC and were in that crowd. As such, I was often surrounded by famous opera singers and ballet dancers growing up (e.g. Beverly Sills was my babysitter, and Laurence Melchior and Mikhail Baryshnikov were friends of the family). My cousin Lawrence Shadur also sang baritone in the Swiss national opera. I'm pretty sure they knew Edita. Unfortunately, all of them have passed away. Next week I have the opportunity to see Edita perform in Beijing. However, after watching this video, with such pure beauty emanating from her soul, reminding me of all those I've lost, and being moved by the music, I'm worried that I might break down in tears during the show and embarrass my girlfriend.
Lucky you! Enjoy the concert in Beijing and realise it is one of her last performances (she just stepped down from the opera stage 27 March 2018 and would continue aria concerts and lieder recitals but there is nothing planned/known after December this year).
Amazing that she was able to sing so beautifully long after the usual age of retirement for female singers. Good for her and good for her listeners and admirers. Peace.

Today's singers are all in their heads. And you actually hear that; I feel nothing from them. One note from her is worth 100 notes from DiDonato or Fleming.
