    One of the best things about the Apple TV 4K, compared to Roku, Chromecast, and Fire TV, is there’s no ads on the home screen or throughout the UI

    • @ChrisWilmshurst
      @ChrisWilmshurst  ปีที่แล้ว +104

      @@TheoFennel probably because we've paid for a device we do not want to be bombarded with adverts. We can also control and use our phones with the Apple TV to change services, type in things etc. Theres a lot of things I've left out. Ultimately the chrome cast is a great budget streaming device and I've had many in the past. but the Apple TV is extremely responsive, fast, and future proof.
      I would always recommend anyone on a budget or who isn't willing to spend the money for an Apple TV to get a chrome cast, but the experience won't be as good unless they want to pirate content.

      @@TheoFennel I hate ads. It doesn't get in the way of what you're watching, but when the #1 thing you look at when you turn on your TV is a home screen-i'd rather see a grid of icons rather than a grid of icons, a list of movies and TV shows that I'll probably never watch, and ads. I think two great features that weren’t mentioned in this video are 1. the ability to type on keyboards using connected iphones / auto enter passwords. & 2. the built-in remote functionality on iphones that can be accessed through control centre. I started with one but now almost all our tvs have them. Love the integration with home. Also love how seamless it was to set up with my home theater system. The Siri Remote turns on the tv, the Apple TV, and the receiver, switches inputs and STILL is faster than Roku loading one app.

If you're not using any other features, you can easily find a used 4K 32GB (2021) one for sub $100 in the US which brings the price lower and closer to competitors pricing. I got the Apple TV yesterday. I don't know what I was expecting, but I guess I'm bored of it already. I guess it's more responsive, but I honestly never really thought it was that big of an issue on the Roku. It wasn't slow enough where I found it annoying.
    What I like about it is it controls the volume and power of my TV. Not sure how it does that when it's just connected through HDMI. I like that it has Airplay and I can basically use my TV as a second screen for my Macbook wirelessly (althogh not perfect). I like how it works with my Airpods. I like how I can find the remote with my phone. I like how I have the option of using my phone as a remote.

    I bought a new fully kitted out Samsung TV a few months back for almost £1000 - a 65", 4K, HDR ready TV with all of the fancy bells and whistles, an EARC port, their 'special' processor in it etc. Using it is like using a Samsung Tablet from 2014-2015. It's hellishly slow and laggy, an awful advert-filled UI that regularly crashes on its own, takes a good 60 seconds to boot up, and sometimes just refused to turn on altogether.
    So I bought the 2022 Apple TV 4K, and Wow is it good, its instant, even the sound and picture quality come out better than with the native Samsung Apps, so I removed the Samsung TV from the network, disabled all screen enhancements like global dimming, power saving etc and only use it for its screen, everything else is processed on the Apple TV and its so much better

    bought one for my 4 year old Sony OLED which has a horrible android operating system which is slow and half the youview apps (UK) dont work. My favourite features of the apple TV are, the colour balance mode, AirPlay audio from both the TV speakers and AirPlay devices at the same time. Screen sharing photos from the app and iPhone when the family are around. Voice searching instead of trying to type on a small virtual keyboard. Facetiming on a massive screen with my iPhone as the camera.
    My only gripe is that apps like spotify don't have features such as lyrics, i'm not sure if this is an apple issue or spotify issue but apart from that it's amazing.

    We got an Apple TV for master bedroom because my husband wanted a smart lock for the front door that was Apple HomeKit enabled, and he thought it would be better to get an Apple TV then to get a HomePod. Our room shares a wall with our three year old and we are always fighting over the volume of the TV. Making sure it’s not too loud as to wake up our son, but now being able to connect our AirPod pros to the AppleTV has really been a game changer for nighttime TV watching for us. I am also expecting a baby in February so this is also going to be good for when we are room sharing the first couple months and we can still watch TV without being loud for the newborn. We’re eventually gonna get one for the main TV downstairs because I feel like our Vizio is always being glitchy with the smart tv apps, and sometimes the streaming isn’t very good either so to bypass the glitching us from the smart TV on a Vizio we’re just gonna get another Apple TV.

    You really see the limits of smart TVs when you start ripping / hosting your own media on Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin, because anything with PGS subtitles will force a transcode when subtitles are enabled on my $2000 LG OLED, but with the app on the Nvidia Shield Pro it works fine. Dedicated media devices also have better codec support etc. Most TVs probably aren't going to support AV1, but dedicated devices that are new enough will.

    I have a new (pricey) smart TV, an Apple TV 4k, and a Chromecast with Google TV 4k. Honestly the one i prefer is the Chromecast. It had ads on the homescreen which i hated but it was simple to swap the homescreen with one thats almost identical to the Apple TV's minus the movie ads on the top, it has apps like GeForce Now and emulators, and it allows you to sideload apps that Google doesnt approve of, like versions of apps with ads that have the ads removed. The only problem i had was a lack of storage space but ive connected an external drive to it and that solved that problem. For $40 its pretty amazing.
