  • Well, it doesn't live up to the reputation of its classic predecessor but how does this new blade compare to the other bushcraft/campy knives out there. After unboxing it, take a look and compare it to Esee, Joker, SOG and other Gerber's.

Great selection of knives there, the knife in the title definitely wouldn't be the one I would choose. The principle looks good (I am not familiar with that one) and Joker knives are awesome.
    Nice video.

Hey, thank you for watching. The principle is an ok knife if you can get it on sale but there are a number of better options at its Msrp. I did do a review of it a few years ago and still use it. The rubber over molding is coming loose in a spot or two and sharpening it was a bit problematic. I ended up putting a new edge angle on it and it works better and is easier to sharpen now. Cheers, Gerber Principle: 6 month review

    Great review/overview. Love comparisons. 👍🏻
My personal opinion (and opinions are like belly buttons - we all have one) is that Gerber lost the plot somewhere along the line, and now basically makes knives for non-knife people. I could see a non-knife person buying that Gerber and sticking it on a backpack and forgetting about it. And maybe that's the best use for it? And that's ok, but I never fell for the strongarm craze, personally. Made in the US is a big seller, tho, for sure. I agree that the Mora (almost any Mora) would be a much better deal.
    Thanks for the look-see. 👍🏻

I agree with some of that. Most of their energy seems focused on the "Gerber gear" marketing approach where they are selling at Dicks, REI and other big box stores along with sporks and camp dish kits.. They do still have some solid military offerings but almost no tactical at all. Even their hunting offerings seem to be waining. For awhile, they were pretty committed to the bushcraft scene but their offerings were expensive and kind of uninspired.
