      There were several times over the course of the show where Emma's magic worked in the outside world. In fact, it's pretty clear that our word _does_ have magic, it's just very latent and subtle and hard to use if you don't know how.

    "but your parents did."
    Emma's eyes immediately glazed over in realization that Lily was threatening her parents. No matter how angry she was at Snow and David, her protectiveness was at an all-time high, no one will hurt them. Jennifer Morrison was brilliant in this scene.

    This is powerful! Regina being the voice of reason here and talking Emma out of killing Lily and warning her against killing Lily out of anger. It's moment like this that show that Regina really has changed. Regina is such a nuanced character, and her redemption has been written so well because she's not back to being all sweet and nice but she HAS changed and learned from her mistakes.

    Love this pivotal moment because Emma is standing on the brink of madness, she still has one foot on solid ground while the other is close to falling off that cliff herself, descending into complete darkness. I always wondered why Emma punishes herself for the sins of her parents. She seems to take responsibility for what her parents did. She is completely innocent in all of this since she was not even born yet when the Charmings stole that egg. It was a choice her parents made. She quickly went from being hard on them for this misdeed to defending them. I get the feeling that she still does not know what to believe.

    Pivotal moment in Emma and Regina's budding friendship. Regina tbh was the best person for Emma to have in her corner in this episode, she knows all too well how easy it can be to slip into that darkness that Emma is teetering on and she doesn't want that torture for her new friend and birth mother of Henry so she talks Emma off the edge of it and thankfully succeeds. Emma and Regina have always had a lot in common and just didn't see or didn't want to see it at first with fighting over Henry in the first few seasons but in this season they finally start to. Awesome watching their friendship blossom over the subsequent seasons and episodes. Great writing!

  • @captiantimecanary6958

    Emma's magic caused the storm in this scene, in one way or another, her magic has pretty much always presented itself in the real world... When she was a kid with Ingrid, or when Henry was born and she made all the lights in the hospital (room?) flicker and bust. To when she first arrived in Storybrooke, before the magic even came back, and got mad and made the power pole spark and her headlight bust... 1:26 The lightning and the busting headlight when Lily hit Emma, *THAT* was her magic. If Emma's magic can present itself in the real world, and even someone as powerful as Regina or Rumple can't use their magic in the real world, then they didn't even touch half the storyline on how powerful Emma truly is..

    I know this show and especially this season ended years ago, but I love coming back to this storyline time and time again. Lily and Maleficent are the main reasons why. I love this scene with Emma and Lily here. I've noticed that so many love to prop up Emma and Regina in this scene (and rightfully so, they did their characters lovely here, both are wonderful actors) but are quick to write off how powerful of a scene this is for Lily's character as well. Lily is supposed to have a soul without any light, only darkness. We can talk about dark hearts all the live long day in this show, but she's been the only one whose SOUL is said to be pure evil. I mean, here Lily is, staring down death and the anger in Emma's eyes, and all she can say is to do it. She makes no play to defend her life or convince Emma to spare her, just taunts her. Almost like she truly does want Emma to do it. And when Lily tells Emma that no one can stop her from making mistakes, since that is all she has the capability of doing because of what has been done to her, it really is just sad and I think this is the first time Emma is realizing that too, at least to this scale. If Lily is supposed to be the anti-savior, maybe this is just my bias, but I think the storm is half her doing and not just Emma's. Of course, this show has always projected Emma as the most powerful magic-wielder (aside from Merlin?), but these two souls who are tied by fate physically fighting, not just Emma's protective anger - but Lily's desperate resentfulness, is ultimately why I think the storm started. Them feeding off of and reacting to each other, they both have magic after all, even if Emma's is said to be more powerful. Either way, love this scene, all the actors did great and I was captivated on every word!! Love this show.

      The savior’s magic is stronger than merlyn’s. Or at least it is by the end of s6. The magic system is really screwed. In s3 it was said that Emma is the most powerful magic user in all the realms. And then we were told it was Merlin. In s5 Merlin said the origin of dark magic is the first dark one. And then in s6 we were told it was the black fairy, which timeline wise makes no sense. Rumple was the dark one for 300-350 years. He was around what 50-60 when he became the dark one. That means the black fairy was created 60 years before rumple. But we saw endless dark ones and Merlin said the dark one has existed for eons which is far longer than 400 years. So really the writers just wrote whatever the hell they wanted

    It was moments like this that made Emma vulnerable to becoming the dark one. All that anger and pain and madness. It took a lot for Emma to lower the gun, and when Lily first mentioned hurting Sno and Charming, I jumped at the chance to end her too, but then I saw what it was doing to Emma and I just couldn’t let Emma do it. No matter how badly I wanted her to.

    How is it that Emma here looking totally normal was way more convincing as potentially turning dark (and it'd only been an episode or two ago she said "I don't care" to finding out what her parents did) then the actual "dark one" arc where she looked like a Halloween candlestick with no scaly skin and was mostly just whining the whole half-season?

    • @shermanlee4037
      @shermanlee4037 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shermanlee4037 Yeah, that's true. I would say things overall improved heavily for Season 6, minus the random hand-shaking nonsense (as if she couldn't have easily died many times before). Or at least enough. For the staying power and the network people overall liking the show it had despite the mess they made with the whole "1/2 season arc" thing they started with S3-S5's ending it's amazing to me it even made it long enough to have any ending. Especially when Emma had way more character development and story in an arc begging for higher ratings making a live-action sequel within the show to Frozen aka "The Snow Queen" arc (though Elizabeth Mitchell and the costume designers did sell it well).

    • @shermanlee4037
      @shermanlee4037 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oneandonlysound3453 It was even worse than that. Seasons 1-3 at least had storylines. S4 and onward either had a storyline that wimped out on the ending (S4) or they would start a story, change their mind 2 episodes later and start something else, then 2 episodes after that they'd jump to something else.
      The show stopped being a _story_ and became a long chain of _scenes_ , usually something involving Robort or Lana, but not usually _connected_ to anything that lasted.
      In S6 all their attention was on getting ready for S7 where they could finally dispense with the rest of the case and just use Rumple and Regina, so we got a season of more or less 'filler'. Hook tours the Realms, Wish Robin (that was painful), etc. The musical episode was a bright spot, even if it didn't make a lot of sense as part of any larger story. By that point, it hardly mattered.

    • @oneandonlysound3453
      @oneandonlysound3453 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shermanlee4037 I do agree it was jumping around way too much, I mean S4 Part 2 with the "queens of darkness" was basically "everything but the kitchen sink" and when it ended all I was thinking was "this should've just been an arc all about Malificient, her relationship with Regina, Emma's inner darkness (so keep the whole daughter situation mostly the same), Cruella minus the author nonsense (gg that latter thing was SO BAD) for side-fun, and a set up episode for S5 at the end. But tbh S3's start looked so cheap and lazy, I would've rather had Pan for like 5 episodes and WAY MORE "Oz" storylines instead of random ones being scattered throughout the show and Glenda never appearing again after S3B. I also don't think S6 is perfect by any means, but getting off that stupid arc formula and setting things up for an actual end even with Season 7 existing well, contracts were up and we all know the charmings should've not still been so front and center after S4 anyway. The musical episode was pretty awwesome though, especially Hook and Zelena's performances (though Regina's was fun too, and she was right Snow is a bitch haha). S7 is just fan-fiction made off of basically a show the creators literally said is like fan-fiction, it was so bad to me except for the Rapunzel and Mother Gothel parts. Stabbing Dr Facilier in the back was just...the worst.

    • @shermanlee4037
      @shermanlee4037 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oneandonlysound3453 Yeah, a well-done Maleficent arc in S4 would have been awesome! But they had a problem with Maleficent that went back to S1: they had taken a lot of her defining character traits and given them to Regina.
      What I mean is that traditionally, Maleficent is considered the 'top' Disney villain, the most evil, the worst. That goes back decades to the old Sleeping Beauty cartoon. I _think_ that originally, way back at the start, the writers meant for Aurora and her Prince to play a much bigger role in the overall story than they ended up doing. But subsequently, a lot of the 'queen of evil' traits that had always defined Maleficent were transferred to Regina as the Evil Queen, leaving Maleficent as a sort of generic monster in Season One.
      The whole 'Mal's daughter' storyline was simply an attempt by Adam and Eddie to get around their laziness. They did that whole 'missing year' storyline in Season Three so they could have most of Regina's redemption arc, gaining forgiveness from the people, etc. _off screen_ . That was why they had that seen where Grumpy asks: "Remind me again why we forgave her?" It established that they _had_ forgiven her, and let A and E skip straight to 'Regina as main protagonist', which is what they really. _really_ always wanted the show to be.
      But a lot of fans cried foul. The whole purpose of that 'Mal's egg' nonsense was to establish that Regina was no worse than Snow and Charming...and the fans cried foul again, because what Snow and Charming did was done out of terror for their child, while much of Regina's years-on-end of murder, enslaving, torturing, tyranny, and brutality were done out of petty spite and cruelty. She murdered a groom in front of his bride for trivial reasons. She slaughtered entire villages (as Percival could attest), she was portrayed as a totgal monster.
      A well-done redemption arc for Regina would have been a lot of work and effort, and A and E didn't want to deal with it. So they cheated...and screwed up the show in the process.
      If they had left the EQ version of Regina not quite so bad, the redemption arc would have been easier, and Maleficient could have retained a lot of her own personality and been available for use later, too.

      Regina never actually forgave herself though, she learned to live with it. That became easier after she split herself in half but she still felt guilty for everything she had done. Her family made her realize that she also had some really great qualities and to focus on developing them rather than constantly lament the past. Emma on the other hand was raised in a place where killing someone is extremely wrong. Combine that with her being the savior and the child of the two most righteous people on the planet and her guilt is off the charts.

So they took Emma's darkness and put it into Lily. What if, the tree also didn't work because, a, Emma was to be a villain, but Lily was destined to be a hero. As Lily said, thanks to Emma, she hard wired to be bad. What if she was going to be the hero instead of Emma? That's something that's been bugging me ever since I saw the secret that Snow and Charming kept from Emma, and it makes me wonder if that was the case? lilly has 100% right to be angry and go after them. all because they honestly believed she would be evil because she was maleficents daughter. if i already didn't have little respect for them because even before this, despite everything they say and claim, they never cared one shit about ANYONE that wasn't their own family, town, belle, FRIENDS! this brought them lower than all the villains (with the exception of cruella--she was literally born evil. her mind all messed up. sorry. she's the one exception to the 'evil isn't born' rule. she was born evil)

    • @shermanlee4037
      @shermanlee4037 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't be silly. They were scared and terrified for the well-being of their unborn daughter, and reacted to that fear as parents do. It had semi-tragic results, but their motives were natural and human. The idea that this somehow makes them worse than genuine _monsters_ like Regina and Rumple and Cora doesn't pass the laugh test.

    • @xeniamartin5297
      @xeniamartin5297 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@shermanlee4037 Here is the problem with that. These parents are self proclaimed heroes and always do the right thing. NOTHING they did in this story line good. You don't steal another baby and doom it do darkness just because you are afraid of yours. Recall Snow's response when Mal asked why they would do this. 'Because this isn't a child. It will grow up to be a monster just like you'. Why? Because she can turn into a dragon? They legit honestly believed this when you notice how shocked they were the egg had a human child in it. There was nothing *semi-tragic* about this. They doomed one baby after stealing it from its mother and took away their own child's choice, forcing her to be a good person (not that it will really helped in the end). Now if you wanna talk about a *genuine* monster, yeah, Cora, Regina, Rumple, hell even Zelena, all did shitty things but they had their reasons of abuse and shitty life. Except for Cora. She was self-centered and power hungry. But a real genuine monster would be Cruella. She was the exception to the rule 'evil isn't born, it's made.' that bithch was born evil. She was a child psychopath that killed her fathers, her mother, and puppies to make a fur coat because 'why not'. Sorry, that's a genuine monster. Yeah, everyone has reasons for being evil and making mistakes. Snow's was selfish and self-centered, hypocritical nad bias. N

    • @shermanlee4037
      @shermanlee4037 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Xenia - Sorry, but no. Just NO. Snow's reasons were fear for her child. That is _not_ selfish and self-centered. Snow was a good person in a desperate situation who didn't entirely understand what was at stake. Yes, she was wrong, no, it does not make her a monster. Cora, Regina, Rumple, they _were_ selfish and self-centered. Their 'reasons' were mostly excuses, with Rumple as a _partial_ exception. Yes, Cora is genuinely monstrous. So is Regina, her 'reasons' were trivial and misdirected, combined with a lot of power hunger. It's no use trying to pretend that their one big offense, driven by fear for their child,, somehow compared to the genuinely horrible people who offender over and over and over and over, for purely selfish reasons, like Regina or Cora or Rumple. It just doesn't.

      @@alexplays_roblox1k373 Uh, no. Issac may have wrote the situations, but Snow and Charming's reaction to it is ALL themselves. Put Belle or any other true virtuous person (though she has faults too, I know, still), not everyone would have done it *just because* issac wrote it with a magic quill.
      *Even* if he wrote Snow and Charming stealing the baby, I highly thought any magic quill, even that one, is powerful enough to write one feels and thinks too. That goes against free will. Even if the Sorcerer's power created the dagger to control the dark one, it can't control what he thinks and feels and reacts. We didn't see Zoso in his last days as crazy as Rumple has been before. Sorry, but Snow legit saying that the child would be a monster just because Maleficent was too (in whatever Snow saw her as, a selfish person or dragon) is 100% Snow White and Charming. There was no fucking way that could be written. So even if the situation was written down by Issac and controlled, their selfish, entitled, holier-than-thou-art, bratty ass attitude and self-importance is 150% all Snow and Charming. Sorry
