Watching this now, 2 thoughts come to mind. 1. Hook threw the fight on purpose. He's obviously a much better swordsman than Emma with centuries of experience, so he could have won with no problem. He disarmed her pretty early on, and had so many chances to kill her but didn't. Also, he saw Cora trying to take Emma's heart while he was 'unconscious'. 2. That fighting move of his where he does that little spin and swing, we see Emma using it on Gold in the S4 finale. It's heartwarming to know that he probably taught her that.
He held on to Emma with one hand, caught Snow's arrow, & bent back to catch Aurora's heart. He definitely wasn't trying his hardest... Sad we didn't get to see more of his kick ass fighting skills.
It kind of made me realise when reading your comment that when he saw Cora try to take Emma’s heart, Emma was the first person he actually clicked with and even had chemistry with after Milah and even though he wasn’t in love with Emma during this season he felt a connection to her and saw Cora try to take her heart and almost kill her just as Rumple had done with Milah, even though Hook wasn’t in love with Emma here it still must have been a nasty kick in the gut for him to witness that again
He also probably wanted her to get home for her son (since he already had a second way to get back anyway he probably only fought so cora wouldn't be pissed)
It's kind of funny how, just a little while before, Hook said "I'm done with you," but yet, you can obviously tell that not only did he *let* her win (we've seen how well he can fight in the season 3 finale), he also pretended to go down when Emma knocked him out (he later said that he saw Cora taking Emma's heart). Sure, Hook. We can all tell just how very done with her you are.

(THINKING TO 5X11 BECAUSE HE WAS ABANDONED BY HIS FATHER [Which we actually learned in 2x22] AND THEN HE KILLED HIS FATHER LEAVING LIAM JR PARENTLESS! He was probably already feeling guilty about that [plus he'd had his interaction with Liam JR on the Nautilous by now...] so I think a lot of it was about not wanting to be the reason another child lost their parent...) And honestly, Hook has been sword fighting for centuries! I mean, we saw in 5x15 that even before he was in the Navy he could use a sword, and we'd seen in 3x05 that he could use a sword in the Navy, and obviously he can sword fight even better since becoming a Pirate... Haha Emma probably wouldn't be able to beat him even now (using no magic!!!). I mean, sure, she's good, but she hasn't got centuries of experience...
In an other interview, the interviewer have them cards with his favourite lines on for them to say. Colin's was 'when I jab u with my sword, you'll feel it'. they were all laughing at the line. I thought it was to rumple but when I watched this back I realised that Hook says it to Emma at 1:56 and now I know why they were laughing. 😂😂

When she showed him the compass, you could see the baffled look on his face. Hook has know incredible, smart, driven woman, but Emma Swan is something else entirely. And he knows that.
"I prefer to do other enjoyable activities...like when i jab you with my sword, you'll feel it" I think everyone who was watching got the metaphor cuz you could honestly tell that he didn't mean it in the literal sense because the guy has shown way too much soft spots for her to say something like this unless he meant something else! And so of course Emma spotted it as a lie in it's literal meaning but to be the truth in the other literal meaning which she'll definitely be feeling in Season 4!! lol
What I like about this is that hook is clearly getting interested in her and is enjoying meeting this new girl who is very independent brave and though and knows how to fight and isn't like any of the other girls who always fall at his feet and always fall for his flirting techniques hes enjoying the challenge
Now that he's a series regular, maybe that means there might be something between him and Emma. .ie. a relationship. After that swordfight, and all those looks, flirting exchanged, there better be! :D

This brings back so many memories. I liked the playful/flirtatious nature of his character. I remember thinking how he would say stuff like "When I jab you with my sword, you'll feel it" and "I prefer to do more enjoyable activities with a woman on her back", but then they had no on screen sex scene. I don't mean explicit. I just mean half naked (maybe post sex), which they were able to show with Rumple x Belle, Snow x Charming and Regina x Robin XD
