I've watched about 40 reactions to this Yebba video, and in nearly every one of them the reactors are just absolutely freaking out. It's mesmerizing, to say the least.
This performance is Grammy material. Your reaction is spot on. She is an amazing vocalist. I would suggest her duet with Clark Beckham on the John Mayer song “Gravity” as well as her performance of the song Evergreen. Both are master class vocal performances.
I have listened to her sing this song a hundred times, along with all the reaction videos that come with it too, and she makes me cry during each one, but your critique was so enjoyable and warm. Subbed for more of you 🦋
1:38 vocal folds? i was expecting another word-of-choice.. 2:50 little runs? hmm, maybe _(i’m just trying to find the exact description of exactly that..eh, vocal sound..)_ 3:53 her chops? resonance, range, riff, trills, transitions _hm, thought i could find a word starting with f, fr, fri, friv…(something with f) in an alternative way_
PS thought exactly the same about the trill, and she just uses her voice as any other instrument, almost using the elongated eeees words like separate legato bows on a strung instrument?
Yebba was signed immediately following this performance by Ed Sheeran's label. She sang in a gospel choir growing up. She has since won a Grammy with gospel artist PJ Morton
Evergreen by Yebba as well. Is an amazing song! And it’s actually dedicated to her mother who sadly committed suicide a few days or a week after this performance.
I have seen every reaction video (amateur or professional) to this clip and this is BY FAR one of my favorites. Love the way you edit to incorporate the parts of the song you are referencing.
I absolutely loved your reaction and commentary. I’ve seen a firework vocal teacher reactions, and I must say that your reaction is my favorite. Very informative.
You know, I got rid of most of my vocal coach reaction videos. Believe me, I had a lot of you guys that I was subscribe to! I really thought you were one of them I got rid of, but it seems I didn't and you're still in my notifications. That tells me I was meant to stick by you. :)
Oh my goodness! I feel so honored to make the cut. I would be so sad to not have your insightful comments around here. (But no pressure...I totally get it if you have a life and need to do something other than watch TH-cam. In fact, I hope you DO! 😂) Be free, friend!
Yebba wrote that song specifically for that performance. The fact that she only had a guitar was strategic. She wanted to tell a story without distractions with the goal of making everyone in that room part of that story. She isn't just an amazing vocalist, she's an amazing story teller and a tactical genius. Yes, she grew up in the church.
Christie, she said "that's, that" because the performance was being Recorded. Abbey was indicating to who ever needed to know, that she was finished singing & that they could stop recording.
Thanks for letting me know. I found it to be so humble and completely charming of her to say "That's that" after singing like she did. Whatever the reason she said it, it made me love her even more!
I love your breakdowns and how specific you get. Please do these regularly. Btw, someone similar ish, you’ll definitely hear the influence, Jazmine Sullivan, In Love With Another Man at Gramercy
Hi Christi! Take a look at this Spanish singer: Nino Bravo. Songs, for instance: "Te quiero, te quiero", "Puerta de amor", "Un beso y una flow", "Libre", "Elisabeth", "Noelia", ... You will love him!
Hello Christi! Please react to Diana Ankudinova singing By My Voice- its a recent performance, sounds very Russian and has some really interesting traditional/tribal sounds. I think you would enjoy where she is now! Thank you!
The really sad thing is her mom passed away a week before this concert, and after this performance, she said she felt that this song ended up being a dedication to her and she doesn't perform it live anymore. When I found that out it made this song hurt so much more because I kept thinking "my mind" sounded like someone pleading "mama"
You should react to Madison Ryan Ward I'll wait, third story still in love or hotline bling and Tory Kelly language or her best singing moments and Cynthia Erivo I'm here or stand up.
Please react to Devin Townsend - Bring Him Home ( Les Miserable Cover )th-cam.com/video/5GiwiyQgT9Y/w-d-xo.html performed Live at NAMM this year with just Devin and an acoustic guitar onstage, or Devin Townsend - Why? ( Official Video ) hth-cam.com/video/fT-uWOVP5q0/w-d-xo.html Why? is a song from his newest album and like ' Bring Him Home ' showcases a vocal range from Devin that I think you will love and be surprised by. I know you reacted to ' Deadhead ' and commented that you wish he stuck with his clean vocals and both of the songs I have suggested showcase his clean operatic range.
That's a great reaction, Kristi!! Her name is Abbey Smith and her mom would always call her by her name, spelled backward, Yebba. After her mom committed suicide, Abbey adopted Yebba as her stage name. When you have a moment, would you please react to 15-year old Courtney Hadwin who did an AMAZING cover of "Old Town Road"? She took this country + hip hop fusion song and turned it into a kick-ass rock and roll song You will be AMAZED!! - th-cam.com/video/anwtg4C0PTc/w-d-xo.html THANK YOU!!!
she lost her mom to suicide about a week before this performance. it brings even more heartbreak to this song. there were parts where she just sounded like the deepest sobs of desperation. she’s an incredible singer and her vulnerability on stage is unreal.
Please react to Falling In Reverse "The Drug In Me Is Reimagined" please do this reaction your knowledge and skills will possibly be impressed by this very beautiful piece! Btw i have subscribed to your channel you so far have made very amazing videos!
I hate to say this but I think You Tube has dampened my appreciation for new singers. With all the amazing singers exposed on You Tube, someone like this young lady whose very talented sounds just okay to me. The bar is really high for singers these days. Maybe it’s just me being weird.
Rosannasfriend Your right and “just okay” was too harsh. She’s extremely talented and I was trying to make a point about the talent level worldwide. I should choose better words. Ha!
You aren't weird. I love her performance in this song. Extremely talented. When I was very young (I have that gray hair), and saw 'Best', whether it be a singer, dancer, or other, I used to follow it with, "who we know about". Even with YT, we still might not be seeing the best. It is okay. For me, it is less about the perfect skills,, huge range, etc. and more about whether they have enough talent and, more importantly, can move me. She moves me in this song so I enjoy it.
Randy, that just seems so sad to me. What you said reminds me of the old saying, "You don't know what you've got until it's gone." I hope you start enjoying artists like Yebba again. :) Take care. :)
Christie, I disagree with you about her sounding like Adele. I love Adele but I just don't hear her voice in this song or any of Abbey's, aka Yebba's other songs I've listened to. I actually wonder -if you didn't see her while she was singing, would you have compared her to Adele @ all? It's a fact that human-beings make 'judgments' within the first few seconds of meeting/seeing someone , it's just how we are! I believe that when you visually saw Yebba you associated her with Adele, quick smart! This was before you even thought about listening to the differences between the two! Differences like: Adele having a strong English-sound & accent & 'look' while Yebba has a strong American, Soulful, Church-like sound. (Two different genre's) Please be aware of how judgment, prejudice & comparing people to others can be so damaging & hurtful! P.S. I just love Abbey since discovering her recently in 2019. She has a song cover call 'Gravity', a duet, it's an absolutely spiritual experience!
Evergreen by Yebba as well. Is an amazing song! And it’s actually dedicated to her mother who sadly committed suicide a few days or a week after this performance.
I've watched about 40 reactions to this Yebba video, and in nearly every one of them the reactors are just absolutely freaking out. It's mesmerizing, to say the least.
Gravity with Clark Beckham is extraordinary, too. Love this.
This performance is Grammy material. Your reaction is spot on. She is an amazing vocalist. I would suggest her duet with Clark Beckham on the John Mayer song “Gravity” as well as her performance of the song Evergreen. Both are master class vocal performances.
She's so amazing and known fairly well, but i can't believe she isn't even more mainstream by now. She's your singers favorite singer.
Yebba, i'm so glad you finally discovered her. Just one of the best singers out there today.
I have listened to her sing this song a hundred times, along with all the reaction videos that come with it too, and she makes me cry during each one, but your critique was so enjoyable and warm. Subbed for more of you 🦋
I'm honored. Thank you so much!💖
Awww. Such a good reaction. You emote light lovely 💕.

3:53 her chops?

Oh, I promise you, she can go higher than she did in this song. You might want to check out her Apple recording of “Evergreen”.
Amazing... beautiful raspy voice and very emotional...10 out of 10
Went to Belmont University. I think mom was a vocal teacher. Dad was a Baptist pastor, definitely gospel influence. Outside of Memphis in Arkansas.
Wow, just wow. I've never heard of Yebba but.... gimme more! Great break down of her vocals and the song, as usual!
I love your reaction! I absolutely adore her!!!
Thanks Christie, you'll love her duet "Gravity", I cried all over again after watching this one. Yebba aka Abbey(Smith).
Love your reaction!! You gotta react to more of her!
I do believe this was the very first time she preformed an original song live , and the way she conveys her emotion is what makes this performance.
I cried listening to this song the first 10 times lol you look so compossed Im glad you were able to break the song down without emotions
You should react to her tiny desk concert!
She is the whole orchestra! With her voice... Fantastic!
I love that "what a range of colour quality"
EXACTLY- you captured it in words!
You are divine, my love Christie 💖
PS thought exactly the same about the trill, and she just uses her voice as any other instrument, almost using the elongated eeees words like separate legato bows on a strung instrument?
This is a very well put together reaction. Your format is top tier. YES!!!!
WOW! I loved her voice!
Thank you for your reaction!

You gave the best breakdown of My Mind. Thank you
Amazing vocal style, incredible singer
Do more of yebba
I think it’s harder for professionals to appreciate her vulnerability in this. She’s singing this from her heart she’s clearly hurting
This performance guts me every time! Evergreen!!
I got it
YOU ARE THE FIRST PERSON WITH TRAINING THAT CAN ARTICULATE HER SOUL THE CORRECT WAY...AWESOME!
HANDS DOWN FAVORITE VOCAL COACH REACTION...ON POINT!
You know, I got rid of most of my vocal coach reaction videos. Believe me, I had a lot of you guys that I was subscribe to! I really thought you were one of them I got rid of, but it seems I didn't and you're still in my notifications. That tells me I was meant to stick by you. :)

You just made me really glad I stuck with you, because no one else would've taught me that "Ta" method of learning runs. Ha ha.
Thank you for pointing out black gospel. thats a HUGE influence for her
That vocal trill you mentioned is also something I've heard in Irish folk music, especially from Paul Brady.
More Yebba please! Gravity, Evergreen, Best Part of me (Abbey Road version). You will love it!
Very nice voice. She have passion in her voice
Ed Sheeran co-signed her up after he saw/heard this song performance, he said it made him cry.
Magique 👍🎶🎵
Christie, she said "that's, that" because the performance was being Recorded. Abbey was indicating to who ever needed to know, that she was finished singing & that they could stop recording.

She lists the Clark Sisters often as influences.
I love your breakdowns and how specific you get. Please do these regularly.
Btw, someone similar ish, you’ll definitely hear the influence, Jazmine Sullivan, In Love With Another Man at Gramercy
This was such a great analysis of this amazing performance. Thank you.
I think you would enjoy 'Til You Come Back to Me' by Rachelle Ferrell... also an entire olympics in 'Waiting' with the George Duke Band.
Yassss! Thank you so much! You’re the best!
Hi Christi! Take a look at this Spanish singer: Nino Bravo. Songs, for instance: "Te quiero, te quiero", "Puerta de amor", "Un beso y una flow", "Libre", "Elisabeth", "Noelia", ... You will love him!
Id love to see an Evergreen reaction. Yebba is awesome. She also did a song with sam smith that is cool.
Great reaxtion. Please react to "Evergreen" by Yebba next.
A week after this recording her mama committed suicide.. yebbas been through a lot & it shows in her vocals
The Clark Sisters are absolutely amazing God blessed voices. YEBBA but has very good taste
Plz try Yebba - Smoke - it is a duet/Fantastic
Her other fabulous song is Evergreen. AND she writes her own music! 🥰.
Uuh. She's so good. I get pretty emotional by this one.
Maybe take a look at Janelle Monae or Cynthia Erivo at the Oscars 2020?
I second this.
Heavily endorse THIS!!!
I would love you to react to Yebba´s Tiny Desk...I think it´s amazing. The first song "Stand" is
You said there is something so powerful with a singer and 1 instrument.........intimacy...
Please go listen to her sing Evergreen!!! Amazing as well. 💖💖💖💖

Her performance of “María la Portuguesa” it’s outstanding!
During the song i never heard you say the word "emotion"...... But that is what the song is all about...
The really sad thing is her mom passed away a week before this concert, and after this performance, she said she felt that this song ended up being a dedication to her and she doesn't perform it live anymore. Heartbreaking.
