    To sing like that and then say "thats that one" afterwords is crazy. The humility.

    For anyone who hasn't figured it out, YEBBA didn't show up to sing a song. She showed up to tell a story.

      Agreed! I have watched so many reactions, from a few other coaches, and this is the first time anyone mentioned how difficult it is to express that type of emotion to the point of tears, yet keep it together. I learned a lot just from listening!

      It’s refreshing to see a comment like yours, you couldn’t be more right.
      I’ve seen many vocal coaches critique her singing on this song by the things and notes she’s doing that is what draws us all in to this song, a song we all seem to come back to and watch repeatedly.
      Yes some of things she was doing isn’t the best of the vocal cords, isn’t perfect pitch, could hurt the jaw placement or the vocal nodes, etc. but she doesn’t sing like this every time. She sang the song the way she did so that we could feel every emotion, every sound that she was singing. This man really seemed to understand that, and see how gifted she really is, and how fantastic this song is, how fantastic she was playing off the emotions to make us feel it all.
      She’s incredible and I hope she continues to become more mainstream, in the sense that she puts out more music, because I know she will put out good, amazing quality music.

    Acknowledgment should be paid for being this transparent with an audience full of complete strangers! Personally, I prefer a vocalist that's emotionally connected as opposed to a vocalist that's technically accurate. In my humble opinion, she's playing on an entirely different level!

    Exactly, John Henry -- At times during this performance, you can SEE the emotion coming through -- her voice cracks, quavers, and I even noticed once or twice that her hands were trembling. The emotion is why this performance is so great. You almost NEVER see this level of emotion in a performance. She's a superstar!

    I’ve watched many Vocal teachers critique this performance and your comments are absolutely fantastic...I say this because there are some that didn’t take the raw emotion in her voice as part of why she was making the sounds and notes that she did...thank you for taking the entire “package” into consideration 👍🏼😁

    I have learned since first watching this that Yebba WROTE this song -- obviously from personal experience. It appeared during this performance that she was reliving or tapping into the emotion of that experience. Although this might be seen as a bit flawed by some vocal coaches (not you, though), she chose to tell the story (or sing the story) with all the emotion that goes along with betrayal by a loved one/partner.

    i have seen many reaction of this and voice teacher, vocal coach´s and other speaking of technik´s and her tone´s, but no one seems to notice it, of course she has wailing tones, the story and the emotions she puts into it (heartache and anger) say it, what does a lovesick person do, cry, she has the sobs, the sighs, the whimpering, the bitter gasp and the pressed exhalation, transformed into tones of their singing. Or to put it another way "she cries the song in sorrow and anger" and the emotions she puts into it makes it so effective

    • @inspectorgadget247
      @inspectorgadget247 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly!! That’s why it resonates with listeners… who hasn’t gone thru a breakup or being jilted by a cheat?! To sing-wail cry with no tears is almost impossible…

    You’re incredibly right. I’ve played music in front of thousands before but when my family asked me to play “in the arms of the angel” by Sarah mclachlan. I cried and had to end the song. I’ve done that same song a hundred times. But situation matters. The fact that abbey can keep up with the emotion and still sing like a champ is something.

    Thanks for a really good reaction to this wonder of a singer/songwriter (My mind is her composition, performed here for the first time a week before her Mother passed away from suicide. She has subsequently donated all the TH-cam income from this song to an organisation dedicated to helping people with mental health issues). I just discovered Yebba a few months ago (I must have been living under a rock!). I was so glad you mentioned Streisand when it comes to conveying pain and emotion while holding the vocals together. I think Yebba is a voice that comes along once in a generation. The only singers/songwriters I would compare her to are Jazmine Sullivan and Joni Mitchell. If you haven´t heard her Evergreen, or Distance, or the latest, October Sky, you should check them out. Also, her collaborations are equally amazing: Ed Sheeran, Clark Beckham, PJ Morton and Lucky Daye to name a few.

    You need to react to the young Norwegian singer/songwriter/producer Aurora singing a song she wrote at the age of 13-14 called Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1) at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize concert. She was 19 at the time. It is written from the perspective of a women who's mate kills her to end her suffering from a brutal vicious progressive incurable disease and how an unbelievably horrible situation affected both of them.
    Aurora is as vulnerable as finely spun glass and as strong as high carbon steel. Her art rips you apart and heals you at the same time. Who does that? Her art is almost too intense to bear, but you can't look away. She is a siren in the form of a wood nymph. Resistance is futile!

      She wrote it about a relationship but then dedicated it to her mom since it connects to the topic of mental illness. Her mom died after this performance (I think 3 weeks later) so this song couldn’t have been about losing her mom. The song “Evergreen” is about her mom.
