Keto has been a lifesaver for me. I was 532 pounds and on my way to an early grave when I finally made the decision to change my life with keto. Your videos have helped me so much. I started the first week of January and today I am down 180 pounds and have never felt better in my life! Thank you so much for everything you do.
Here is another very interesting Keto benefit. I am 5’2” and was already a size 4/6 when starting this. I am also 66 and most say ... Ah crap, at 66 and my metabolism is old and sluggish. Well .. no no no After a month and a half on Keto my waist.. midriff area, AND top of thighs have trimmed way down. And I was already a small gal. But this is what cutting out bad carb does to carve out the body. My small pants are an at least and inch to big now. I don’t ever weigh myself as it’s not important. I am also into IF. It is a very healthy combination for ultimate health!! There’s nothin like maintaining my girlish figure at 66. Love it. 👍🏻
Exactly! Just turned 89 years and have been on Keto for a year, going naturally into OMAD . After losing 2 1/2 stone my weight has stabilised, and I manage to stay in ketosis. Sometimes I have 2 meals.....if it is socially easier. I am fairly flexible, but it is easiest to do when I am on my own.
Awesome ....I wish more women in Australia had the same mindset...I am surrounded by pre diabetics ( overweight and eating a huge carb loaded junk meal every few hours ) as they mouth the words "I am starving ".......best of everything to you !
mekuranda Oh yes dear friend, Being around like minded people for food support and REAL nutrition is so vital. I go it alone myself where I am living with my brother . His life is sugar.. sugar ., with sugar on top. And proud of it. So I just look the other way(🥴) and try to be non judgmental. My wish this next year will be to make a couple new friends that can share my passions for health. We can always hope that our lifestyle will be our testimony for motivation. Older women my age often find themselves alone at this point and give up. I like to help, I’m Virgo Good luck to you too👍🏻🙏🌈
@@musiclover-tf6fu I am confident that it will help you. If it's any consolation, my mum has Osteoarthritis and replacement knees, curvature of the spine and muscle wasting from when she could barely move without a walking stick and only walk for a few feet at a time. Mum is 76 has been fasting minimum 18hrs a day often 20hours per day and doing Keto and has lost over 3stone (42lbs) before exercising and can now walk on grass for short periods without a walking aid provided she can rest intermittently. I am 43 yrs old have lost 4 stone (56lbs) before any exercise at all. We now go for walks around the park at our respective paces and that has helped strengthen back and leg muscles for each of us. Once your tummy muscles are stronger your back definitely feels automatically supported. I wish you well.
@@musiclover-tf6fu I started at 400 lbs back in Feb 2018 and was unable to do any physical activity, and have lost 150 lbs since then with 0 exercise . Keto works without it . I'm hoping when I get under 200 lbs I will be able to start doing some light exercise and build some muscle back up
Just went to doctor. Lost a grand total of 65lbs and my BMI is now 23. My doctor said, ok you can stop losing weight now. People were telling me I was getting to skinny but I feel great! I have dropped from a size 16 to an 8! I love this way of eating! No going back to prepackaged garbage!
I feel great, but, everyone says I look to thin. And I do. I would like to gain weight. I am at about 1.5 lbs of steak a day. Plus 1000 calories a day with heavy cream. Trying to gain weight back. I do a fair amount of physical work every day. And...I don't want to eat carbs because I have stage 4. So I need to try to starve the cancer , best I can.

Good video. I agree. I reached my ideal body weight. I am 64 years old, 6'1" tall, and lost 62 lbs. I went from 250 lbs to 188 lbs. I've been doing keto for over a year. I am staying with this diet to maintain this weight. I also combine keto with intermittent fasting and OMAD. I recommend this diet to all my patients.
In my 40's I unknowingly followed a ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. In less than one year I lost 65 pounds. I am 5'1" and my final weight was approximately 115 lbs. My grown daughter freaked out and said I looked anorexic. She had never seen her mother thin before. Over time stress in my life increased and I returned to to the average American diet. So I returned to my previous obese weight. Yesterday, after watching many of your videos, I started the ketogenic diet again. In one day my weight has dropped 3 lbs. I know it was mostly water but it's a great start. My goal in the next year is that my weight to be significantly reduced, my energy level increased, and my diet to include many more proteins and vegetables - a truly healthy diet. Thank you to Dr. and Mrs. Berry for speaking the truth. Much love from East Tennessee.
Thanks Dr. Berry..I'm 77 yrs. old today..7-31-20..I've been on keto since Dec. 2019 and have gone from size X-large to size small..I would not change back to all that junk food. If God has blessed me with old age, then I need to do what I can to take responsibility for this life.
Thank you so much for this video! I started the Proper Human Diet this past June. I lost 15 pounds in 6 days and the weight loss stopped. However I have continued to get slimmer to the point I've had to buy a complete new wardrobe, new shoes and even jewelry - scary when you don't have much money. I was always a size 10 and now a 6. I only did this diet to overcome depression and pain from arthritis throughout my body, not even sure it would help. I could have cared less about weight. I threw all meds away in 2 weeks (30 years on anti-depressants alone). I had begun to panic over getting smaller and smaller thinking it was never going to end. This was truly an answer to prayer. Yay, I'm not starving! Thanks so much for all you do!!
Same here!! Started Jan 1st... 5'6 225lbs....size 22-24..now 158lbs size 10-12...increase energy...my excercise was walking now I swim ..3 different strokes 20 laps and I'm 61.... I found this diet by researching Alzheimer's and Dementia...
Keto and IF for me. I was always a small man 150 to 160 lbs. Now I hoover between 128 to 130 lbs. No more bowling ball midsection. I have gone from wearing medium clothing to small tight fitting clothing. People have told me that I look so fit. I am a cyclist and a landscaper and am 70. My life has been reinvented. I am busy replacing all my old clothing and it is so much fun doing it. I am still surrounded by people who are just being fat as usual. Just do it.
I’ve lost 50 lbs in the last 8 months. Major life change affecting many members of my family, and friends. Thank you Dr Berry. Still need to loose 30 more lbs. I’ll never go back. Changed for life.
Im on MAINTENENCE now. I still Intermittent Fast for 20 hrs a day with a 4 hour eating window. Lost 106 lbs in 1 year. I feel awesome. Adding in a few salmon patties or pinto beans and homemade corn tortillas ONCE in awhile keeps me happy. Only a few frozen blackberries, whipping cream and Truvia feels like a sinful treat. Bone broth with okra makes me salivate. Recipes can be Keto adapted relatively easy. No more logging in, record keeping or stress. This Ketogenic Way of eating is my lifestyle now. Thank you Dr. Berry for encouraging me and teaching me throughout this journey.
I started in April 2019 and was 200 pounds, I am now 145 and have maintained this weight for a mo and I am eating more of the carnivor diet. My ketosis is consistant. I started it not just for weight loss, but in hope of preventing cancer reoccurance. I am a breast cancer survivor of 5 yrs. And on this diet I feel better than I have probably my entire life.
I had weight loss surgery in 1999. I’ve lost and regained and completely screwed up my system (it was life saving at the time) I’ve been keto now for 5 months and have dropped 50 pounds and 27 inches. I have about 60 to go. But it took about 2 months for the inflammation to leave my body and I’m getting my life back! I feel like I’ve been starving all of my life, until now and not constantly thinking about food. I have never in my life been at a healthy weight. I can truly see a light at the end of this tunnel.❤️
I have been on the keto plan for a year and a half- started at 112 lbs remain at 112 lbs + or - 2 lbs consistently- my boyfriend lost 50 lbs- the key is that I didn’t back off the fat i.e. butter, cream and coconut oil in my coffee (my breakfast) after becoming keto adapted- I’m burning fat for fuel, but still burn the fat from consuming the fat- whereas after my boyfriend became fat adapted, he backed off his fat consumption so he burned his body fat for fuel. I feel great and my weight is stable- I DO have less body fat and MORE lean muscle- so don’t be afraid of losing too much weight on keto!
I’m down 28 pound since March. It’s been very slow progress, but I’m happy at my current weight of 147 pounds. Your videos started me on my journey and keep me inspired.
Same here slow but steady weight loss. My sister seemed to slim down in less than a year with lazy keto. Me it is taking strict carnivore to see results not dropping fast like most people are I think there must be alot of internal healing to be done. Happy I am losing and seeing so many other benefits.
This video is for me, lost 27 pounds in 2 months. Mom and wifey scream that I’m becoming too skinny. I started feeling worry myself. Tried to gain a bit, but instead I still loosing weight. Guess I’m not the only one.
I was told on my last Dr visit. That I am pre diabetic and have high cholesterol and that need to cut out sugar and carbs. I went from 200 to 192 in less than a week. Always struggled to keep weight on and was skinny. I don’t want to loose anymore weight. Just want to have a healthy body. Any further advise?
I went through this exact thing Dr. Berry. I'd lost my weight when I started Keto. Then, I reached my goal weight but I lost more weight than I wanted to. All I did was exactly what you said, just upped my *good* carbs a little day by day and got back to where I wanted to be.
My wife, to my surprise, started eating keto shortly after I did. Both of us did well, and although neither of us needed to lose more than 10 lbs or so, she kept on losing weight. This started to be concerning, and at a regular doctor visit she was told "you must eat carbohydrates", etc, etc. Apparently the medico almost got it right, because his truncated differential diagnosis included the observation that she had signs of hyperthyroidism. Only later, when the full implications of insulin sensitivity became clearer to me, did I surmise that her usual dosage of levothyroxine (for her hypothyroidism) was probably excessive. It is so important -- and so difficult -- to find a primary care physician who gets it.
I lost 50lbs with little effort; keto, IF and extended fasting. I kept nutrients and calories up; enjoyed really clean, nutritionally dense foods. I'm told that I look like I'm in my forties, but I'm 60. I'm strong, happy, tireless and wearing sizes I haven't worn since 1987! I'm done loosing. I'm going to stay in ketosis, increase my calories with more protein and fat and work on gaining muscle. Going to use keto and fasting to change my body composition. I'm already thrilled with what has happened but I'm excited for the next phase. Thanks for the reassurance!
Will you Dr Berry please do a video about whats all involved in stopping the weight loss after we get to our goals, the foods to add in, what to avoid, I just don’t know what I need to know. I would appreciate that.
Thank you so much. Most ppl think 🤔 the keto diet will make you lose even if you don’t need it. It’s a lifestyle inflammation free, mental clarity, energy etc... ketogenic lifestyle is the bomb 💣 Have lost 41#. Have more energy. Inflammation minimal.
Keto has been a miracle for my health. On my 39 birthday I was 225 pounds. For my 40th birthday just yesterday I am 155 pounds and back in a size 30 waist from 42. Thank you Dr. Berry for making these videos.
Thanks so much Dr Berry! I've been on a ketogenic lifestyle since April 2019. I started at a tight 34" waist and 209 lbs. I'm 6'2". Now I'm wearing a comfortable 31" waist pair of jeans at 166 lbs. Keto removed my joint inflammation and since has allowed me to return to the gym. I'm gaining weight in muscle now and feel fantastic. I'm 56 yrs old and haven't felt like this since my 30s. I can't thank you enough!
Lisa Rakic, To my understanding, you're NOT diabetic; am I right? I've the same problem that you've; it's very difficult for me to regain the pounds that I've lost since my healthy eating habits. I'm a 64 year old woman who's type two diabetic, 5' 4" tall and my current weight is 109 lbs; in a few months I'll be 65 and I've never weighed more than 115 lbs; that was a good weight for my height. I've always looked younger than my age; everyone that has guessed my age, guessed 14 years younger; now am too skinny and looked only 9 years younger. I NEED to gain 6 more pounds but it's very difficult eating to gain weight when I've to control diabetes; both my parents' were also type two diabetic and very slender.
I noticed you did not mention your protein intake. This might just be me but I see a lot of people on keto neglecting or discounting protein. There should not be a fat requirement expressed as a percentage of calories consumed. For me, it is control the carbs
Thank you for making this video. I have lost 80 lbs on keto and have been maintaining a healthy weight and height to wait ratio for months now. I get comments like this all the time.
I've lost 8 lbs in 6 mos, and my doctor was concerned until I told her I had started eliminating carbs and sugars. I weighed 95 lbs when I married at 23. Never could gain weight until I hit my 30s and had 3 children. I ballooned up to 165 at my heaviest. Now I'm 68 and weigh 125 lbs and feel skinny. Lol Off my antidepressants, reflux meds, blood pressure meds, and metformin. I was concerned about losing too much weight. Thanks for this information.
Keto did all that for me and so much more. I had the 'too skinny panics' for a bit because of people's comments, but I trusted my numbers. BMI is 23. Thank you Dr. Berry!
When I started on the Keto diet back in Feb I was nearly 300 pounds. I was restricting my calories by about 500-800 a day. I was losing about 1 1/2 to 2 pounds a week. Then about 6 weeks ago after I had lost around 70 pounds or so I noticed that my weight loss had really slowed and one week I even gained weight. I upped my calories and started eating when I'm hungry and what do you know. I'm losing weight again. Being on Keto is a forever life style change and your body will even itself out. Weight is not a very good measure of where you are. A tape measure around my belly button is my guide. It's what started me on this journey to begin with when I heard Dr Berry talk about your height divided by 2 and your waist measurement. If you keep your net carbs low and eat good fats your body will do what it needs too.
Charles Clayton , My son introduced me to keto 3 years ago and i love it! I am proud of you .....keep it rollin and good for you for taking care of yourself. Love it!
Was doing Keto from Jan. till mid June. Lost 9 pounds. Then I stopped taking my BP med's, had been working on getting magnesium and potassium daily. I have chronic diarrhea from no gallbladder, so was losing electrolytes which = high BP and other thing's. 2 weeks after I stopped I had so much more energy and didn't need a nap any more. The weight started coming off - 30 more pounds. Saw my doctor the 1st of Oct. BP was normal !!! Never was while on meds. She is very happy with all I'm doing. She's GOOD with Keto. Thank's for all the info on your video's. God bless
About 9 years of studying on my part until my eyeballs have fell out on my cheekbones some nights in that period Of time.. I am asked by many people with all the common problems and symptoms today associated with.. "Poor healthy choices" like they're typical Doctor for example and often times I'm met with resistance and disbelief.. That's when I point your face and video right at"em. Always appreciate your endeavor and being a genuine guy/great Doc Grew up in the music business spent a lot of years since I was a kid down there and would very much look forward to meeting you when I come back!
I'm a 5'8 male who lost 22lbs and 7% body fat over 4 months on keto (started at 162lbs and 21% down to 140lbs and 14%) . My BMI is right in the middle of the ideal scale. I weigh as much as I did in college and feel fantastic. I'm right where I should be ideally. My high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes have all disappeared, and I'm not on any medication!
Yep, keto is a powerful tool but I started to not eating enough because of satiation and I started to lose too much weight so I quit. Now I'm back on a regular diet and I started to build a lot of muscle. I thank to keto for regulating my hormones, I plan to return from time to time.
You just described our situation.. as the slim one, I lost fat from my abdomen, but it was useful in my recovery from atherosclerosis, whilst my wife also lost fat, from many other places and benefitted greatly in her battle against osteoarthritis ( without doing unnecessary painful exercise). The keto diet worked wonders for both of us and I gradually started increasing the amount of fibrous carbs. Another good vid Dr Ken.
@Peter Whitmore Can you tell me about how Keto has helped your atherosclerosis? I've recently received a high CAC score but fortunately started Keto a few months earlier and am hoping to see reversal or stopping of progression at next scan.
I’m sorry, I haven’t had my latest scan...due in December. However, I am still relying on the medication given, following the placement of a stent. The only stuff that gave me problems initially was the beta blocker, causing breathlessness. I have recovered some of my fitness but I now accept the fact that I will not be able to cycle, run and do hiit like I used to do. The atherosclerosis had a slow effect on my physical abilities and the docs just say it’s old age...I wish they had more idea about the causes of atherosclerosis and how to test for the problem rather than using that stupid cholesterol level....of course you have high cholesterol, you have damaged organs. Using the keto eating plan has got rid of the extra kilos I put on due to enforced and increasing inactivity and we both feel a lot less bloated and or tired after eating. Obviously, a lifetime of insulin spikes hasn’t helped and so the lack of tiredness seems to indicate that we are doing something good. As I was trying to gain some fitness after my heart attack, I started to eat 200g or less of carbs rather than 50g or less. I haven’t had angina, even when I have been stressed whilst kiteboarding...if I die enjoying myself...I won’t know will I? Let me know how your results go. By the way, my CAC was 2130!
I'm finding now after almost a year on keto and having lost 30lbs, that my metabolism has changed, it used to be sluggish and it was hard to lose weight, now I find that no matter how many calories I eat (within reason of course), I don't put on weight, I seem to burn energy easier, I am still keto and get full quickly, so I don't even want to overeat. I do still have a bit of a belly though, but definitely feel metaboliclly better and more 'normal'.
@@Enigmatized13 I was 171 and now I'm 141lbs. I'm only 5' 3" so to me 171 was obese. My metabolism was very slow. Lost about 1lb a week. Feel really good. Next goal 135, then 130. I'd like to be about 125. No hurry, but now It's much easier to lose.
I've been keto since March this year and keto carnivore since May. Blood pressure normalised and off meds, arthritic knee cured, severe brain fog gone, constant aching bones and muscles gone and 85lbs of fat gone. I've also brushed off all illnesses I've been exposed to and this comes from a person who had a cold every summer for most of it and again constant colds and flu all winter every year. The last time I fealt this good I was in my twenties and I'm now 52. Actually I'm not really sure I've ever fealt this good.
Carnivore is meat only the approach I take is head to tail of the entire animal ... don’t get me wrong keto is really good but for me carnivore is really GREAT!!! I now having no carbs only the little that is in any meat or eggs or little dairy than I consume ... I personally was not totally satiated with keto but on carnivore I am never hungry I eat 2 meals a day and that’s it ... it’s such an amazing diet ( simple but so do powerful )
Thanks for this information on Keto. Yes I am following mostly keto foods recommended and doing mild fasting from 6pm-8am. Being 73 yo - 6ft, 1 inch, I found a BMI calculator on the internet and right now I am 192 pounds and need to get to 188 pound to be in the normal weight range. Probably 185 pounds would be ideal cause eating food during the day, weight goes up 1 or 2 pounds with 2 meals a day. So I am getting there. I started out at 206 pounds in less than 1 month ago. i don't look fat, but the overweight is there. take care.
That is good to hear , I was worried I would lose so much weight it would not stop until I shrunk to the size of a baby .Or disappeared completely like the incredible shrinking man.
I was one of the people that lost alot of weight on keto. I disagree with people who said I lost too much, as what my friends and family thought was "normal" for me was me at 30% bodyfat. I was not happy at 30% bodyfat. But I lost much much more on carnivore. IT was like keto on boost mode! Now people say I looked normal on keto! On Keto I got to 19%bodyfat. on carnivore- 14% without changing my exercise routine at all. It was just changing my diet.
I'm 61 years old and have the great figure and weight I had at age 30. I have lost 30 lbs. I do weight training once a week and lesser fitness activities during the week. I didn't think I could look this good at this age.
For what it’s worth, I’ve been doing more of a carnivore diet with some keto type foods here and there and I’m maintaining muscle and possibly gaining muscle. Not sure if it’s the weight loss that are making my muscles more defined or if it’s that AND I’m gaining muscle. Whatever it is my wife likes it ;)
Barbara Broadway Make your own! MCt oil, cinnamon and turmeric are all fairly easy to obtain these days. Me, I start out every morning with a 400 calorie (not that I really care about that) but it has heavy whipping cream, grass fed butter, and regular coconut oil, cinnamon, sometimes some cacao powder, a little flavored stevia or monk fruit drops. Whip that sucker up with a whipper like a cappuccino- don’t have to eat till dinner time every sing single day!
Thanks for continuing to educate and encourage us! I found you almost 2 years ago and Keto and IF helped me lose the 15 lbs I gained after breaking my ankle, and then some. Overall, at 66, Keto is helping me maintain my weight, and I do IF or OMAD when I need to.
Having been on weight watchers and Jenny Craig diet's I didn't learn how to continue on my own afterwards and the weight went back on now with Quito I can control myself without having to buy pre-prepared foods I am nearly 60 and have lost over 20 kg and I like that I can do this myself
I am a 5 ft 2” female. I am eating the keto way, usually IF and OMAD as this feels very natural to me and presents no hardship. My weight has changed from 47 kg (104 lbs) to 42kg (93lbs) with a BMI of 16.9. I feel amazingly well. Nothing much adult fits me anymore but I feel as I did 20 years ago when I was irrepressible. The problem is that everyone around me are worried about me and think that my weight is “unhealthy” despite them witnessing the variety and quantity of my meals such that there can be no evidence of anorexia or distorted body image. This”unhealthy” idea may be true by the usual table of weights and BMI tables but I feel incredibly healthy. I see no purpose or benefit in increasing useless nutritionally impoverished carbohydrates into my diet just so that the scales look better. I love the food I eat and the way that I eat. I am unsure of what to make of these dissenting voices. Is there truth in there statements although they cannot qualify the idea of unhealthy low weight considering I do not feel as though I am experiencing any ill health at all. I would appreciate any views.
Started keto in June. I am 5’6. I have been size zero (107 pounds) almost my entire life. I am 100 pounds now. I feel great, my blood tests are perfect. But! I am really skinny now. And I keep losing weight. How do I stop it without abandoning the proper human diet??
I've been Keto since May last year,84pounds down. Just came from reviewing my blood draw, cholesterol is high. Triglycerides normal, good cholesterol is great but doctor put me on a statin, very low dosage . I'm so discouraged! Blood sugars were great, all organs working great. Doctor is also on Keto but still suggests I eat more plant based and cut the fat .😕
I have to go on the Keto diet now. I was 170 when my wife and I moved to ND. I'm 220 at the moment. I don't have much energy now at 40. And my body has been hit with what seems like an autoimmune disorder. My joints are aching especially in the morning and at night. I have been juicing and taking CBD pills which help a lot with the inflammation and pain. But I need to take it a step further and it seems like the Keto diet and Intermittent Fasting is the way to go. I just have to inform myself a little more to get started and have the least amount of screw ups in the beginning.
That was me in April I started and now I am 75lbs down. Keep it simple and don;t feel you have to buy all the fancy supplements or collagen or sweetners. You do you. You have got this!
I'm now perfect weight/height now . Love my keto lifestyle and now in maintenance stage i can have a few more carbs per day and for the last 4 months vary only 3 lbs from my lowest weight at anytime.
I'm 3 weeks in, and I'm stuck. I barely ate yesterday, and this morning I was 1/2 pound heavier than yesterday in nothing but a tee shirt. What does a 66 year old woman eat who is 5'1" and 190 lbs? I start my day with coffee with 2 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp heavy cream. The only veggies I've had is cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, broccoli, radishes, and very little onions for flavor.
Patricia Ribaric Maybe try cutting plant-based foods for 4 to 6 weeks. You might have an intolerance to some or all of the plants you are eating and it messes with your metabolism. Your microbiome will take at least that long to turn over. So... eat fatty meats, fish, seafood, eggs, and also cheese if it doesn’t bother you. Also, don’t worry about small fluctuations of weight for the time being. 1/2 pound is not significant. I was doing very poorly on paleo and then keto until I just ditched all plant foods. Good luck... I am your height and I am rooting for you!
Drop the fat coffee and fast. Then when you eat, eat! Cutting calories is the opposite of fasting and metabolic responses are the opposite. Don't have the morning fat and your cells will eat your body fat. Fasting stimulates ketosis and autophagy. Then in your eating window eat real food, especially fatty fish and eggs. Drink apple cider vinegar tonic with matcha, turmeric and ginger. Walk and work out fasted. Be happy with your magnificent, intelligent body and enjoy the transformation!
Awesome video! I personally got rid of my scale so all I had to focus on was being on keto and focusing on my health. So regardless of my size which is a 18/20 in womans, I can focus on feeling good with keto no matter what the scale says. Thanks for reading, Carrie Spencer PA-there is nothing better than Ken and Neisha Berry, just say'n❤️
The great thing about keto is that I actually eat healthier and stay full longer so actually feel like I’m eating less bc the protein and nutrients from the vegetables that I was never eating before is keeping me full longer and took away all my cravings I had so after breakfast and lunch I’m really not hungry. I’ve started it on Monday and already lost3.4 lbs and it’s Friday. I can’t wait to continue my journey.
For 4 months I cut out my breads, pastas, grains, and most sugars. My fats and protein were moderate. I went from 205 lbs. to 158 lbs. I’m 6’1” and looked very skinny, but felt good. So I added in some rice and put some weight back on. I’m going to try eating more healthy fat instead.
I have lost 20 pounds since I've started keto. Everyone noticed it, especially I was already thin. I haven't gone below the 20 pounds. My LDL skyrocketed though, it was at 197. I was worried about losing muscle, but I just have a much leaner appearance. As much as I'm enjoying keto, I'm still unsure about it. It seems as though I run into problems whenever I try to focus my diet.
Q. Lawrence Don’t worry about LDL. You are a “lean mass hyperresponder,” possibly. (It’s a good thing!) See videos by Dave Feldman, Paul Saladino, and Dr Nadir Ali about that.
Yeah don't worry about your LDL skyrocketing all of a sudden it's just that once you start Keto, your body starts mobilizing fats and cholesterol around the body, so that's why it temporarily goes up, but soon after it should go down and back to normal, but yeah what you want to watch out for are the Triglycerides, which is fat in the blood, but on Keto all of that normalizes and you become healthy and your triglycerides go down, and your healthy cholesterol is balanced and normalized, as far as muscle it's hard to say, if you don't want to lose muscle, just make sure to keep working out, if anything maybe strength might lack just a tad bit, but honestly it shouldn't be THAT much if it even happens, plus on Keto you get super lean and you can show of your abs and six pack, and if you eat a lot of food, you would be able to put on muscle and not gain fat around the midsection, and also Ketones are muscle sparing, so they preserve your muscle and protein
Thank you. My uncertainly wasn't just based on my LDL. I was having some other health issues that may have nothing to do with the diet, but makes me question it. I started keto back in January of this year. My stomach on the right side had a consistent pain that would stay during the day then go away during the evening. Over the past couple of weeks, that went away. Go figure! The trade off was that in the past couple of weeks, I was in rough shape and even went to the hospital. They found nothing, as I suspect they wouldn't. I'm only getting an answer from my Ayurvedic doc, who's currently exploring the primal diet.
The answer is no, I've been on keto for a year now, I lost 50 lbs. For the last 4 months I haven't lost a single pound. I guess my body has adapted to it. Not sure.
I have a similar situation. I'm on keto/carnivore for passing 7 months now and all the weight I lost was during the first 2 months only. Yet I'm still getting the fat ratio lower (you can tell by the looser and looser cloths). Guess fat is turning into mussels keeping the weight value, nonetheless, at the same place on the scale.
@@patmatt975 Why discouraging? I reached 185 pounds (starting on 230) been 6,2 foot tall. And all without a drop of sweat :D " I will never go back" - that makes two of us!
Well, Doc, I think, in fact, that my keto diet did make me lose too much weight. I'm almost 6'3" and in four months dropped from 195 to 148. Before 195, I was at 232. This was a true keto diet, so I'm not misleading you. It seems to me that my ideal weight should be about or at least 170. I've recently started to incorporate more carbs back into my diet, mainly concentrating on the overall number, and not necessarily their quality, although I tend to do so automatically. So, I think I'm an example of what you said should not happen. And, by the way, I'm not too concerned about it, other that having to buy new clothes. I thought you would like to know of my example. Appreciate your videos.
I am at the flattening part of the weight loss curve now, but after losing the first 120 pounds, I'm OK with a slower loss ;-) You know what ELSE I *lost*? -High blood sugar - Diabetes meds -High blood pressure - BP meds -Cpap machine to sleep - oh and, my prescription anti-inflamatories which I was told I'd need daily, for the rest of my life. - and clothes - the good ones went to charity, because I can't wear anything from last year other than shoes, socks and hats.
Keto has moved my body into homeostasis. And intermittent fasting IF is actually very normal for me to do I have been busy all days and just ate about 6 eggs with butter and real salt. I feel fine. Before I would be crashing and shaking from insulin resistance. Now my body is so adapted I feel confident if I had to survive I could go days and all I need is water. I’m sure I could even go quite a while without sodium if needed to but I don’t sacrifice sodium. It’s just a great feeling to know I can go and go and go without the worry of crashing and feeling like passing out like I used to. Wish I’d known this critical info years ago.
I have to disagree with you on this one Dr. Berry because I was struggling with maintaining my weight on keto because I am prediabetic and I do not have the luxury of adding healthy carbs or my blood glucose will go up. Idealy to stay in ketosis and have normal blood glucose levels I have to be on 0-20 carbs a day, only one meal a day. I was already at a normal weight when I started the keto diet and I lost 23 lbs over the course of a year. I went from a size 8 to a size 2. I tried eating more fat, eating more protein, but as long as I was only eating one meal a day I was losing weight. So I added a high in protein and fat meal and I finally stopped losing weight but I am barely in ketosis & my blood glucose levels are higher than I’d like them to be but I was tired of losing weight and looking at my sagging skin and bones protruding and having absolutely no curves left at all. So I decided to stop worrying about my prediabetes and just pray and hope to god I will not become diabetic on my keto diet of eating two high fat, high protein meals a day that are keeping my weight on. 🙏
@@aidahayes7896 I wouldn't like going to the gym and do not like dumbbells. But kettlebells are great because they're more functional human movement and build muscles easily. I love them! And bodyweight exercises, even yoga for strength, is great. Apparently muscles can set back biological markers more significantly than any other protecol. I'm excited.

I have reactive hypoglycemia, I do eggs and cheese with cilantro and cottage cheese with minimal fruit and avocado (less than 5% carbs of any kind a day). Every other diet was killing me
I have been doing low carb/keto off and on for several years, and this past month I went full carnivore. Oct 1st I was 166 lbs, Oct 31st I weighed 154 lbs. And I just had extensive blood tests done Monday morning, including an NMR cholesterol panel, liver GGF, various inflammation markers such as Lp(a), homocysteine, CRP(hs), cortisol, etc. I'm interested to see how the results compare to similar tests I had done earlier this year after doing strict keto for 3 months straight.
7:21 I did. Down to 113 and 5'6 and eat three times a day until stuffed. I lost 75 Jan -June then lost another 12 lbs. I went froma tight 18 down to sizes 2-4.
There is set point weight that our smart body will never allow us to go below it So never get worried about loosing too much weight we are protected by our body system
The best thing about keto is that it resets the sugar palate😄. Been on keto for nearly two years and have never felt hungry, I eat a lot of carefully chosen veg, low carb meats in reason, fruit from berries, pastry, and bread, all keto made, and don’t feel deprived just have lost the ravening hunger for sugars. BMI below that for my height, weight is lower than my impossible target and I am a happy eater, not a fat chugging carnivore. I just eat reasonably from foodstuffs but keto. And my appetite has shrunk too. Win win.
I went into ketosis in a week. The following two weeks I went from 174 lbs. to 145 lbs. scary. I the began carbs again and stabilized at 150. BMI =23. Still eating carbs. Keto blood reading = 0.2. How do I get back into ketosis and maintain weight?
Dr. Berry, Thanks for all the great information. Have you seen the documentary Gamechangers? It would be great if you could do a video on what's right and what's wrong with the documentary. It talks about how everyone should be on a plant-based diet and how meat is "bad" for you.
Doug Doug I wondered about that too. And which carbs should we add? Plants are toxic to me. Meat satiates me pretty fast. I have trouble getting back up to 100 lbs and am trying Frank Tufano’s advice of weight training more often. Maybe it will spur extra hunger. But having been diagnosed as “prediabetic” last year, I really don’t want to eat a bunch of carbs.
Doug Doug I was going to ask the same question but scrolled through first to see if it had already been asked. Dr. Ken Berry, inquiring minds want to know.....please?
You would just increase the Keto friendly carbs such as a portion of nuts or blueberries or strawberries or cauliflower, brussel sprouts or pumpkin but enough to increase carb intake but without going over the limit or eating those which are high in fructose or starch or refined carbs. For example have a small portion of squash or a larger portion of cabbage as opposed to say just jumping to a bowl of mashed potatoes or chips (fries) or bread. Select the Keto friendly carbs and stay under 50grams or max 100grams until you achieve the desired weight.
Greets from Germany. From July 1st 2019 to 30th of October 2019 I lost 20 Kilos with keto (from 90 to 70kg in 4 months) Firstly, I didnt know that I made keto. I read a book from a chilean nutritionist who also follows you (Pedro Grez, the Grez method) and I stopped eating carbs. Without going to the gym, I lost an astonishing amount of water and fat. I also combined keto with intermitting fasting. In total I ate two times a day: at around 9 AM and around 4 PM. So two meals in total. All in all, I have to say that stopping to consume carbs changed my life a 100%. I havent been cheating on carbs now for 6 months and my insulin level stays the same all the time. I eat lot more natural. Unfortunately, I aöso lost a lot of muscles after losing water and fat.
Dr Berry I have a question about keto, you talk about eating bacon and eggs for breakfast. I make a egg bake 13x9 pan with a dozen scrambled eggs, a onion chopped fine, a bag of ham chunks, can of mushrooms stems and pieces or chopped up fresh mushrooms, and a bag of shredded cheese on top. Is that ok for breakfast and have chicken or a steak for supper. I could eat the egg bake for supper cuz it's good but is it good for keto ?
Keto has been a lifesaver for me. I was 532 pounds and on my way to an early grave when I finally made the decision to change my life with keto. Your videos have helped me so much. I started the first week of January and today I am down 180 pounds and have never felt better in my life! Thank you so much for everything you do.
Charles Clayton That is amazing!!! Congratulations and keep up the good eating!

Here is another very interesting Keto benefit.
I am 5’2” and was already a size 4/6 when starting this. I am also 66 and most say ...
Ah crap, at 66 and my metabolism is old and sluggish.
Well .. no no no
After a month and a half on Keto
my waist.. midriff area, AND top of thighs have trimmed way down.
Love it. 👍🏻
eileen corado, come on eileen! Haha. Had to say it. I'm sure you get that all of the time 😆
Yep you're 66 and Im 400.

Oh yes dear friend,
Being around like minded people for food support and REAL nutrition is so vital.
I like to help, I’m Virgo
Good luck to you too👍🏻🙏🌈
Keto is great lifestyle. I have lost 70 pounds my wife lost 100 pounds and off diabetes meds.
I love hearing things like that!

I know I'll never be a size 8 but I wish I could be and I really admire your success. I hope to continue weight/fat loss.

Yay congratulations! Keep going! Love to hear all the success stories! I’ve lost 20 total.
Good for you and Keto On! Best of luck from the UK
But you're a cat.
what is the Proper Human Diet?
This is how Dr. Berry now refers to what was called the “carnivore” diet. It is also High Fat/Low Carb...🙂

Great idea for a video! I'm down 112 pounds and was wondering about this. No more high blood pressure. Love you doc!
Down 41 lbs in 6 months. I still want to lose at least 25 more lbs but am happy with my progress so far.
2 months into keto and my a1c is down from 6.9 to 5.2!! very excited!!!
Yes, me too, I increase my carb intake to over 100g and still not gaining weight, it's terrifying.
It’s a lifestyle inflammation free, mental clarity, energy etc... ketogenic lifestyle is the bomb 💣
Have lost 41#. Have more energy. Inflammation minimal.
Keto has been a miracle for my health. On my 39 birthday I was 225 pounds. For my 40th birthday just yesterday I am 155 pounds and back in a size 30 waist from 42. Thank you Dr. Berry for making these videos.

Keto removed my joint inflammation and since has allowed me to return to the gym. I'm gaining weight in muscle now and feel fantastic. I'm 56 yrs old and haven't felt like this since my 30s. I can't thank you enough!
After both parents were diagnosed with diabetes, I gradually changed my diet over the past year to include more fat(50%) and fewer carbs (
Lisa Rakic,
To my understanding, you're NOT diabetic; am I right?
This is what I need to be doing. Well done on your achievement.
God bless

So true...I have lost 12 lbs in four weeks but I see the fat loss off my upper arms and my hips, very happy and not hungry!
Down 26 pounds in three months. Can't imagine going back to old eating habits after reaching an ideal body weight.
Same here..
30lbs doesn't sound a lot after 12 months of keto. Was you small to begin with? Or is that 30lbs of pure fat? If so, then yeah 30lbs is a lot.
I would love a refresher video on this topic from Dr Berry. Appreciate the content!
Maaaan, your terminology is so on point, I really appreciate all the use of language to properly describe the phenomenon.
The best channel on TH-cam period ... this man has absolutely changed my life ... I was keto now carnivore I have lost 26lb in 5 weeks
Nitrogen Fix NO DIG!!! Can you explain the difference ? Is carnivore only meat? Sounds boring.
*Thank you for helping us navigate keto journey safely and effectively.*
Thanks Dr. Berry!! Healthy first ❤🍳
I'm 61 years old and have the great figure and weight I had at age 30. I have lost 30 lbs. I do weight training once a week and lesser fitness activities during the week. I didn't think I could look this good at this age.
And??
For what it’s worth, I’ve been doing more of a carnivore diet with some keto type foods here and there and I’m maintaining muscle and possibly gaining muscle. Not sure if it’s the weight loss that are making my muscles more defined or if it’s that AND I’m gaining muscle. Whatever it is my wife likes it ;)
I have the same results. My wife likes it , but she wants me to put more weight on. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!
I saw on FB a new coffee withTumeric, MCT oil, Cinamon in it!!!! Can’t wait to hear you take on it! It’s Expensive!!!!
Barbara Broadway
Make your own!
But how much of each, should be added? I think that is a Huge Questions...
I add about a tsp of butter, a tsp of coconut oil and a splash of heavy cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon -
Thanks for continuing to educate and encourage us! I found you almost 2 years ago and Keto and IF helped me lose the 15 lbs I gained after breaking my ankle, and then some. Overall, at 66, Keto is helping me maintain my weight, and I do IF or OMAD when I need to.
I wish that was my worry Dr Berry!!! HAHAHA. Thank you for the video, good to share with my skinny folks
I have lost 19lbs in 6 weeks and i feel great. Havent been this size for a long time. I never eabt to go back to my old life ❤
Yup...lost 35lbs without even trying. OMAD Keto is a game changer.
Started keto in June. I am 5’6. I have been size zero (107 pounds) almost my entire life. I am 100 pounds now. I feel great, my blood tests are perfect.
But! I am really skinny now. And I keep losing weight. How do I stop it without abandoning the proper human diet??
up the healthy Keto carbs to between 50g or 125g per day according to how you feel. Just don;t go back to inflammatory carbs.
Kate thank you! That makes perfect sense - duh. Will do
I've been Keto since May last year,84pounds down.
Just came from reviewing my blood draw, cholesterol is high.
Triglycerides normal, good cholesterol is great but doctor put me on a statin, very low dosage .
I'm so discouraged!
Blood sugars were great, all organs working great.
Doctor is also on Keto but still suggests I eat more plant based and cut the fat .😕
stay away from statin... It's a poison
Thank you for answering this question!
It may take 2-3 months for your body to fully adjust.
@@ladycactus110 Thank you for your encouragement!!!
Drink your coffee black and fast as long as you can before your first meal. The butter and cream break your fast.
I have been doing keto 2.5 years, lost 40 lbs. within months, I have maintained since.
Lol! When you breakout of my barn you won't be my friend no more!
Awesome video! I personally got rid of my scale so all I had to focus on was being on keto and focusing on my health. So regardless of my size which is a 18/20 in womans, I can focus on feeling good with keto no matter what the scale says. Thanks for reading, Carrie Spencer
PA-there is nothing better than Ken and Neisha Berry, just say'n❤️
You're right about it being filling, about 11 last night I made 3 hamburgers and since, only water. 6½ hours later I'm still nowhere near hungry
What veggies?
@@redflame7033 It is discouraging, but I will never go back. I enjoy life more now.
@@patmatt975 Why discouraging? I reached 185 pounds (starting on 230) been 6,2 foot tall. And all without a drop of sweat :D
" I will never go back" - that makes two of us!
@@redflame7033 Your right, I should be happy with my progress.
@Sara
I am doing keto. I am trying one meal a day this week. Hoping that works
I eat more dairy than I should, probably part of my stall.
Walter Last I think everyone is different and this can happen. I think you were blessed with a great metabolism and a higher carbohydrate tolerance!
I have also lost too much weight on keto , I must eat some carbs to gain some weight, I have a way too low bmi otherwise
@@denest3435 Yeah, it is strange. I'm surprised that the Doc doesn't seem to be aware of certain people. But, no problem. He has good info. Good luck,
At 4:55, he said to do exactly what you did to gain weight: increase your carbs to gain weight
I am at the flattening part of the weight loss curve now, but after losing the first 120 pounds, I'm OK with a slower loss ;-)
You know what ELSE I *lost*?
-High blood sugar
- Diabetes meds
-High blood pressure
- BP meds
-Cpap machine to sleep
- oh and, my prescription anti-inflamatories which I was told I'd need daily, for the rest of my life.
- and clothes - the good ones went to charity, because I can't wear anything from last year other than shoes, socks and hats.
I lost 55 pounds in 6 months and 2 years later I maintain the same weight and I am still "stuck" at BMI 19. Can't complain.
The thing about when your mother says your to skinny 😂🤣 nail on the head with that, gotta keep the politeness.
Have you tried adding muscles?
Delphine Kirkland In what way? By lifting weights? No I have not tried that. I don’t really like lifting weights 😖

Also getting damn thin. Wife unhappy. Lift or carbs or more calories I guess.
Carbs spike BS
Lift...well I love swimming man
Calories...well I eat as my body guide me..don't want to overeat
Tough one hey
Thanks Dr. Berry, you are so smart and entertaining! You make fat loss almost easy! Great advice !
7:21 I did. Down to 113 and 5'6 and eat three times a day until stuffed. I lost 75 Jan -June then lost another 12 lbs. I went froma tight 18 down to sizes 2-4.
There is set point weight that our smart body will never allow us to go below it
So never get worried about loosing too much weight we are protected by our body system
Win win.
Thanks Dr.
5.21. "If you are under weight on a ketogenic diet you goner each more carbohydrates" Shock horror. This doctor finally makes sense!
Thank you! I’m already pretty skinny, but I don’t think I’m healthy. I’m starting the keto diet tomorrow morning.
Love these videos Doc!
But eating more carbohydrates will kick you out of ketosis which defeats the health benefits. Right?
Doug Doug I wondered about that too. And which carbs should we add? Plants are toxic to me. Meat satiates me pretty fast. I have trouble getting back up to 100 lbs and am trying Frank Tufano’s advice of weight training more often. Maybe it will spur extra hunger. But having been diagnosed as “prediabetic” last year, I really don’t want to eat a bunch of carbs.
@@ladycactus110 How come plants are toxic to you? Like Spinach and Kale and leafy greens make you feel bad or how are they toxic to you?
I have read that eventually you become more metabolically flexible, allowing a greater range of carbs and easily slipping in and out of ketosis.
Thanks for this video! I was hoping you'd cover this topic.
Hello Dr Barry. Love your channel. Could you do a video on fruit and Keto? Thank you in advance.
How do you know when you are at your set point?
Greets from Germany. From July 1st 2019 to 30th of October 2019 I lost 20 Kilos with keto (from 90 to 70kg in 4 months)
Firstly, I didnt know that I made keto.
I’m a primal health coach living in Asia...there’s such an ‘eat rice and noodles’ mentality that it feels like a very uphill battle!
How about non organic meat? Is it safe for keto? And also how to deal with constipation while doing keto?
Dr Berry I have a question about keto, you talk about eating bacon and eggs for breakfast. I make a egg bake 13x9 pan with a dozen scrambled eggs, a onion chopped fine, a bag of ham chunks, can of mushrooms stems and pieces or chopped up fresh mushrooms, and a bag of shredded cheese on top. Is that ok for breakfast and have chicken or a steak for supper. I could eat the egg bake for supper cuz it's good but is it good for keto ?
