- A short song made in FL Studio using the piano, strings and some soundfont drums.
I put extra effort into this one mainly because it's about a very well-established place in my imagination, with a pretty rich story that has built up over years of having it in my head.
also, the way I started this song was really special because I wasn’t even planning on composing. I had my midi on the table, played some random chords with a melody at the same time, and found it interesting, so I developed it into a motif,
THEN, right after that, I accidentally changed the key while playing lmao

This song is just... so beautiful in its own kind of way. Its calming, yet sad. Regretful yet uplifting. It's just that feeling of "There's always tomorrow" that I love about it. Great song, keep it up man!
To me creating imaginary worlds is one of the greater joys of being a composer. I cant put my finger on why they feel more real, maybe because in a way they are a piece of the composer. Anyway, Your music is incredible, don't stop expressing yourself. You got this!

I haven't played Deltarune yet, I want to probably wait until it's complete to experience it fully without breaks but I do listen to the music and oh my god Toby improved as a composer so much!!
it's crazy, because like I didn't think it could get much better than Undertale, but it did
with so many people comparing my music to Deltarune and Undertale I wanna try using more synths haha
maybe I'll do it for one of my next songs, I've got an idea >:)

I'm simply in awe, I'm going through your whole discography and all of it is wonderful! This piece strikes a place in my soul so it is up there. I do have a question, how do you stay focused when composing? Is it pure passion or discipline, how do you manage? I get so distracted :P

I get distracted very easily and it's especially hard with composing because I can't have music in the background since I'm making music haha
hopefully one day I can obtain that superpower, because when I'm ACTUALLY composing the progress is so fast and I personally very rarely get stuck, just procrastinate a lot
Glad to know I'm not alone in this then lmao, same thing where I am hyper focused for a couple of hours but I can easily procrastinate and lost, hard to get into that flow state.
I still have a ways to go to get to your level, but one step back, two steps forward!

it's called Noire and is my favorite piano library, I highly recommend it!!

oh, I'm pretty sure it's just volume!
I'm just using BRSO Articulate (which is completely free by the way) and there's a lot of different controls you can map on it for automation.
One of those controls by default is called "Expression" and, I guess, some libraries have specific control for that, but usually it just controls the volume if I understand correctly.
so you can just automate the volume of whatever vst or library you're using and it will be basically the same thing! :)

I actually didn't have any connection to it while writing sunken city
but the way it works, I usually over time just add places to that world so in a way it is, yes haha
it's pretty fitting too, so now that you say it I'll probably make that become true even if I don't want to
I'm also planning on using a pretty hidden motif played in the left hand during this song in my other future songs if I ever want to reference it >:)
