    In this exciting video you’ll see how my dividend portfolio has been doing in this choppy market. You’ll also learn which dividend stocks I sold out of as well as a new one I added, all of which ultimately lowered my annual passive income by thousands of dollars a year, but also derisked and diversified my portfolio, as well as increased my dividend growth potential.
    Near the end of this video I’ll tell you a quick synopsis of my background for any new subscribers, and I’ll also tell you why I recently sold ALL my non-dividend stocks and almost all my crypto.

      Passive income. It makes more than that as the markets trend up in the long run in capital appreciation. It has allowed me to retire and it pays all my expenses. I could put it in riskier assets and say "look I'm making $300,000 a year in dividends!" but that portfolio would probably perform a lot worse than my conservative one.

      Howdy, unfortunately I lost all that data.. I was saving records on a laptop and it died and they couldn't recover it.. And then changing brokers overtime I found that most brokers only save data for 5 to 7 years before they purge it when you leave. But my retirement account is a good example -- I prolly averaged a few thousand a year, but you can see what compounding did over the decades.

    • @GenExDividendInvestor
      @GenExDividendInvestor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Almost 30 years. Unfortunately I don't have any good data on how much I contributed -- TLDR I was tracking all my data carefully the first 10 years, and then the laptop I had it on died and specialists couldn't recover it. Back then no one saved stuff on the net (or almost no one lol). That turned me off to tracking it closely but I figured I could always get the data from brokerages I had been at over the years.. So when I eventually reached out to the brokerages years later they told me they only kept data on accounts for 7 years or something lol.

    Nice report GenExDividendinvestor, thank you.
    The strong performance of SCHD is predetermined by a vigorous screening process and regular rebalancing of its holdings. Interestingly that the same set of rules has been applied to a newly established Schwab International dividend ETF SCHY. As of now, SCHY has no track record and that may be a good reason to wait and monitor it for a while. Nevertheless, I'm convinced that this international ETF is going to perform very well in terms of both dividend growth and total return.

    • @GenExDividendInvestor
      @GenExDividendInvestor  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've purposefully crafted a portfolio that meets my needs of both stock appreciation and income and other long term goals to set my family up for success. I currently make more income than I need, which affords me the luxury of holding stocks with low yield :) For example -- my Apple position is my lowest yield stock in my portfolio, but it has returned 300% in just a few years. If I needed more income I could sell my Apple stock and put it into Jepi and make $30k more income just from Apple (rather than the $1600 I get from apple). My microsoft position is like my apple position. So yes, I know how I can make 3x to 5x (or more) more income than I have now, but it won't hit my other needs like stock appreciation and conservative risk/tolerance, etc :)

    I own my house free & clear. It’s market price is currently 1.2M. Since it’s my primary residence, do you consider this as part as my net worth? My stocks are currently 1.8M which I consider liquid. My house, for the most part is a liability with dead cash flow. Love your videos.

    • @GenExDividendInvestor
      @GenExDividendInvestor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, your house is part of your net worth (i.e. market value - debt owed). And thanks :) A house can be one of your best assets -- as many people who live in them and sell them make a ton of money -- and they got the benefit of living in them all that time. So, I disagree with Kiyosaki on that part of how he feels houses are liabilities. I get his point and definition, I just disagree based on my experience. Of course some houses that you overbuy at the wrong time are bad investments.

    A lot of those companies that disappeared from the fortune 500 were acquired, and many of the new ones were spin offs from other companies. If you had purchased the S&P 500 as individual companies back then, the result isn't as bad as the raw statistics indicated. However choosing a managed fund or index is probably a safer "just let it ride" choice to replace your own management. I'm leaning the same direction (even SCHD). In fact Warren Buffett has a similar approach recommended for his heir(s) -- keep 10% cash and put 90% into the S&P 500.

    First of all- thank you for your work and taking time to create the content and for sharing the experience. But I wanted to ask: 90k out of ~2.7mil is 3.3% What exactly outstanding in this div return, when there are way better ones, especially with 2.7 mil? Low risk, invest and forget (low maintenance)? Cause inflation (even regular 2-3% range) will eat it all up! Treasure bonds paying 4% and those guaranteed. Don't get me wrong- with all the respect to hard decisions and work. Just wondering about efficiency of the approach and the logic within, in case I am missibg the point.

    • @GenExDividendInvestor
      @GenExDividendInvestor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      3.3% doesn’t include stock appreciation. So much Apple shares are up hundreds of %. It doesn’t include dividend growth (which is about 7%). If I had out my money In bonds or cds I’d have way way less :). So I have enough income to pay all my expenses while also getting stock appreciation and being in a low risk portfolio. So sure I could sell and move onto QYLD and be making way more income then I need - but I’m confident I wouldn’t have the long term returns, and my goal is to not only be retired but also leave a growing portfolio to my future generations.

    I hate double commenting but I think this needs to be said to anyone watching this video and reading this.
    You should never feel bad seeing another persons investment portfolio and how much they are generating. See it as a goal, the same way when you go to the gym and you see all these people benching 300 lbs or ripped with massive muscles, it is not something to be overwhelmed by or depressed about your circumstance because everyone starts off the same.
    For both situations investing and working out, it comes down to 3 things:
    1) Putting in the work
    2) Consistency
    3Patience
    And that is just the way life is, never expect things to change right away because they wont. Slow and steady is a better, use people who have already made it to make you see your own successes. Imagine yourself with that goal by seeing others.

      Mostly it has to do with the risks of putting all your eggs in one basket (a basket that has a good amount of risk associated with it). My goal isn't to have the most yield -- as if I wanted to do that I could go with something like a 10% jepi and be making way more cash flow :) I want a balance of conservative yield along with a mix of companies that I believe can grow a lot (like Apple and Microsoft). I'm fortunate that my portfolio is large enough that even with a relatively low current yield I can cover my living expenses -- so I don't need to sacrifice yield for diversity + stock appreciation potential.

With just 1.1 mil you could have those same stocks that generate $11,300 monthly= at least 130K annually excluding your other 1.5 mil invested into other quarterly/monthly dividend paying stocks. If you were to add other stocks you could easily generate an average of 20K per month.

      Thanks -- I've crafted a portfolio that meets my income needs and my desire for stock appreciation. I also have a very low risk portfolio, which I prefer. Surely just investing in a tracker fund would return similar results without the hours of research and diligence required for the method.

    Although MO produces a nice dividend, I have refrained from investing in that stock because of a moral issue. My father-in-law suffered and died from lung cancer due to smoking...I saw how he suffered from emphysema for years and finally cancer due to smoking. But that is a personal decision on my part. Thoughts on high dividend BDCs like ARCC?

    you seem to have stayed away from MLP like ET, MMP, etc which have higher dividend returns, any reason?

      There are lots of great companies & asset classes I don't invest in... But I did recently do a video on MLPs (amongst others), where I share some of my perspective on them. th-cam.com/video/3AUmfunez2A/w-d-xo.html

    What is your attraction to dividend stocks when their return is below the average SP500? Taxes are like long term capital gains. So overtime you’re leaving money on the table.
    Thoughts?

      The average returns of dividend stocks have outperformed returns of non-dividend stocks (on average) overtime. I've shared multiple studies in multiples videos showing that fact. I've also showed why I pay $0 in federal income taxes due to my qualified dividends (I'm retired). In my videos I explain multiple reasons why I invest in them as well as explain common misconceptions about dividends. Watch more of my videos if you want to hear nuanced responses :)

    So I’m kind of new to investing… do you just invest in companies that pay a dividend? Are you sacrificing potential income from companies who don’t pay a dividend?

      So I like to invest in great companies (i.e. I went with companies that I considered quality, regardless if they paid a dividend). Overtime I came to appreciate conservative blue chip companies the most (which also tend to pay dividends), and my strategy was to be able to retire on conservative blue chip dividend stocks. I still like to invest in companies like Google and Amazon that don't pay a dividend (which I was doing until very recently).

    Wondering your thoughts on MSFT and CRM? I am invested in CRM and have high hopes here, in that our old mainframe shop will potentially move to the Salesforce platform.

      I am king MSFT and it’s my favorite long term potential stock. I think CRM owns a great niche space.

    I dont consider this a dividend portfolio with the low yields. This is dividend growth. A dividend portfolio would bring in 20k a month with that amount

    Hey GenEx, how much of the info in your spread sheet are auto pulled? I don’t want to have to do a lot of searching and updating

    • @GenExDividendInvestor
      @GenExDividendInvestor  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of it is auto pulled though you still should double check some things (and etfs need to be manually checked because their payouts arent the same so they dont work as well automatically). The next version of the spreadsheet (3.0) we are testing right now and hope to release it in a few weeks which will be a big improvement to speed and stability.

    Praying good health for you my friend. You are a good man to make sure your family is taken care of and you are a good man for sharing your wisdom with us all these years. I have learned so much from you and I will always be grateful. SCHD is my second largest holding only behind VOO. I have a feeling it will eventually be my largest holding. I like to keep it simple for the same reason as you described. Just to keep it easy for my wife.

      Thanks, Bobby :) I'm sure she and all your future relatives will greatly appreciate what you are doing for them (and of course, yourself)
