    I used this very video to make pillars for two Winchester Model 70's in 30-06. When combining this pillar setup with a fully bedded action the groups fell from 2.5" at 100yards to right at 3\4" at 100 with the same ammo. Works very well!

    Thank you so much for making this video, i found it hugely helpful. I just finished pillar/glass bedding my 527 varmint in 223 and it came out perfect.
    My other 527 is still at the gunsmiths getting re-barrelled as a 350 Legend and I’ll be giving it the same treatment as soon as I get it back.

    Your videos were very helpful as I was preparing to glass bed a couple of my own rifles. They're entertaining & informative, and I always look forward to them.

    Nice video's, I have glass bedded several ruger's. I bought a CZ 527 with the kevlar aluminum plate stock it came with just a dot of epoxy bedding. After shooting I decided to lay down more to help with the groups. It was nice to watch your video great job!

    I recently purchased an aftermarket stock for my savage MKII FV 22LR. The rear trigger guard screw hole is to big to securely anchor the stock. As a stop gap I wrapped the wood screw threads with 1 wrap of electrical tape. Works but I wanted to put pillars in. So, thanks for the great video.👍

    Oh boy......you really have me interested in this little project. I just wish my 527 had woodwork like that, the grain looks very nice.
    Looking forward to the glass bedding and seeing how it shoots. All the best.

    My buddy bought one in late 2016 in 204 Ruger, shoots probably just as well as yours. Nice little Varmint Blasters.

    Hi , I know it's an old post but , handy hint, small disposable syringe works well to apply epoxy in those tight areas.

    Great video. Suggest using a reamer to enlarge holes instead of drill. Holes will be perfect.

    • @cavedweller1959
      @cavedweller1959  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that is what you have, then by all means use it. But it does not need to be perfect, the epoxy will fill all voids, when it sets up, It will be perfect.

    Just seen this in 2022.😁
    since you have a drill press (poormans vertical Lathe and surfacing machine if your careful), you could have chucked up that adapter and driven it onto a file ,emery cloth,honing stone or similar to square up each end .
    Just a thought.
    Good Job FYI.....................

    Purchased both the 17 Hornet and the 204 Ruger in the 527. Both are stellar shooters, they put the domestics to shame.
    The set triggers are marvelous.
    The pillar work looks interesting to me, I look forward to the bedding vid.
    Have you got a fix for the receiver screws, I would prefer hex?
    Best regards

    i watched a guy use his drill press to cut the pillars square using just a hack saw blade laying on the press table then he put sand paper on the press table to trim them to length.

    What would you suggest for a first time dog shooter a 17 Hornet or a 22. By the way i like your vidoes on on glass bedding.

    • @cavedweller1959
      @cavedweller1959  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neither. 1st thing I would look at is VARMINT ammo availability, I'm assuming your not a reloader, yet anyway. Hands down, the absolute best bang for your buck is the Rem. 223. Cheapest, most available 3000+ fps ammo you will come by. {Before & after this Covid19 BS} EVERY manufacturer builds a bull barrel dog rifle. Love my 17H, but you asked about a 1st timer. Thanks for watching.

    Nice video. No way I could do that in my condo. Just shoot it out straight out of the box for me. I wonder how much would a smith charge me for bedding, although I doubt that is necessary for a .22lr?

      I believe it was 24" from the factory. I had my gun smith trim it back to 21 when he threaded the barrel for a suppressor.

    When you add the price of the brass fittings this is a lot of manual labor for two pillars you could just buy at Brownells for about $15.00. I really don't care for these doing it on the cheap videos. The CZ is too fine a rifle to futz it up with hose fittings. I stay far away from cheapskates. They never buy a round of drinks in the gin mill and women shun them. LOL.

      Some people get so hypnotized by marketing that they can't use their own imagination and ingenuity. Kinda like substituting a $1.5 makeshift part for a $15 marketed part that is probably made from a brass hose barb.

  • @robert5
    @robert5 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    HA... you totally screwed this up. You should have made sure the inside of those "pillars" were a very tight fit on the bolts then put in the pillars, epoxy, then put in the action, inserted the floorplate, bolts and tightened them to the correct torque - same exact tightness or torque you use to tighten the bolts ordinarily. If you don't know what that is, establish a torque [inch lbs] number that feels good and do so before any of this pillar monkey business, record it and use it on those bolts from then forward including after this pillar job.
    Your "wondering pillar" method of gluing those pillars in place just made me wince and cringe but I am an aerospace machinist. Those bolts are likely not going to line up with the holes in your action after this and you will have to file them losing part of the possible precision you could have had. Too bad....
