I agree with you. I really enjoy how they interact with each other. I do watch other youtube gardening channels, and by far this is my favorite because of the interaction, and of course content.
You could use the picture function to erase the shutters to see how it looks before actually taking them down. Stewart can probably handle that feature for you Linda❣️
Hint for umbrella. My husband solved the issue! He drove a pipe (just slightly larger than the umbrella pole) into ground that came up to the bottom of the patio table. Just insert pole through table into tall pipe. No need for umbrella stand. We are near the gulf coast and this was a successful solution. Also keeps table from blowing over! 💕 love your creativity
My patio has a pole like that cemented in and it sticks up a couple inches past the hole in my table. I just put the umbrella pole right over it. No need for a base! Love it!
I love the black lanterns. I also agree by putting up bigger lanterns and a cute historical plaque that the shutters should come down so it won't look so busy. I love everything you have done so far.💖
Don't ever apologize for wanting some privacy from the neighbours, it's a very English thing. You can talk to your neighbours when you want to but don't always have to. Yes, take down the shutters! Love the idea of a front patio. We have a brick one and use it all the time, weather permitting in Illinois. We step down to it from the small front porch. It is in front of the large casement living room window. ❤️🇬🇧
Love the new outdoor lights. I agree with dry brushing some brass color onto them. I also would make the light in the dormer match the new porch lights. Love your channel!
Definitely the black lights. Even now, the shutters look like they are in the way of the little brass porch lights. Your new plaque that you want to get and the new black lights,I think, would be enough. Love watching the progress. I look forward to your shows!! ❤
PS-Please keep the large trees in the back, some birds use the same trees for nestings every year, I have canna lilies in California. The hummingbirds love them.
I love the idea of your garden legacy inspiring your new forever garden. Your strategic and foundational concepts of an elegant and edible garden inspired life are again coming to life right before our eyes. Thank you for taking us along for your creative ride.
Calla lilies make a beautiful cut flower arrangement they last for a very long time. I’ve had a cut arrangement with Calla lilies for a month in my house.
A a retired florist may I suggest the stems should be cut on a slight angle with a sharp knife, cutting hollowed stems with scissors can crunch the ends causing water draw to be not as efficient for longer lasting bouquets. 🤗🌷
I do smile when you say that some people are very opinionated 😊 I have had a share of them in my life 😅 this is why I like to keep my opinions to myself, we are all different human beings with different appreciations. I believe that whatever you design is goi g to be tasteful, beautiful, very classy, just like you are. ❤
New lights are so much better in size, style and colour, I like the black with no brass, . Your work in progress is soooo much fun to watch and quite inspiring! Thank you Linda and Stewart!
The black lights are perfect for the cottage 👌I completely agree that those shutters are not really needed there , too busy and will clash with the bigger lights ...The brass plaque will be just perfect to finish off the look 👌I love your cottage and it's so exciting to watch it become a real jewel in the crown 😍
I’m not sure the brass rub will bring it together. Once you get the plaque it may look a little too busy. I guess it depends on how much brass you are going to exhibit.
Love your enthusiasm. Gosh you have a lot to sort out in the front garden. It's a slow but satisfying progress. You have great helpers. Keep the hot chocolate coming😁. I love your accent. Oklahoma is going to be a must to visit. Thank you. Take care and keep digging👍😍Much love from Rosie O🌹 from Devon England 👏🇬🇧
Yes on all! Love the new lights and idea of removing the shutters that crowd the area. You'll have more clarity on the rub once the dark shutters are removed and you see how that looks. My preference is remove shutters, leave lights black and add your sparkle with the plaque.
Found your house on google maps and you can see a street view history of your house through the years. I love the shutters! To me a cottage needs at least one set of shutters. And I love the new lights too!
Linda, your yard is exploding with excitement and beauty! Yes to the new carriage lights along with brass highlights! You chose such a perfect time to move with spring blossoms popping every day! I love, love, love it all! 🌷🌼🌷🌼 Linda
Love the placement of the hollies. There's nothing wrong with having a little privacy from your neighbor. And a windbreak makes sense too. Also perfect backdrop for a bench.
Things sure are starting to take shape. It's going to be so lovely! Sometime I sure would love to see your favorite books that you kept for your office shelves.
The new carriage lights look great in style and size. I love the wall sign idea with “cottage on the hill” - removing the shutters will make the front look more cohesive in style. So fun watching and following along on your yard transformation !
Wow! Never noticed the shutters that are the only ones on the front part of the house. Yes, removing them is a good idea. Also, the new black lights for each side of the front door are perfect and beautiful. You have so much going on in the front yard and we all can't wait for it to come together for you all.
Dear Linda and Stewart, thank you for another nice video. I would remove the shutters, then everything will be more balanced. The shutters accentuate the 3 different types of windows at the front too much. And without the shutters, the beautiful new lamps look better. I like it when people give their opinion, it makes you think about your choice. And even if they are the opposite of your own choice, they still make you better aware of why you chose something. Good luck with all the choices!
Love the carriage lights! In terms of the plaque - many historical societies have a program that enables homeowners of historical homes to purchase a plaque with the year the house was built. In this way, they authenticate the building’s date as well as provide a consistent look to all of the plaques in the neighborhood.
Hi Linda! Definitely the Carriage lamps with a little bit of sheen! How divine! The old lamps are cute and quirky...maybe you can find a place for them elsewhere...like on a post along a walkway? I have been following the development of your cottage garden and it's coming together in a beautiful choreography of plant materials! I agree that you need "wind breaker" trees...as I hear your winds in the video. (So do we have in the Northwest)!LOL! I might add, you have an abundance of light, the perfect environment to have an atrium of indoor plants and a front row seat for the outside gardens! Enjoyed the video!
YES to the new front outdoor light fixtures and to adding the brass color and YES to shutter removal...keep up the good work and thank you for sharing!!!
You have some lucky neighbors Linda, all of those new plantings are stellar! I agree shutters encroach on porch lighting and visually compete with the front door-the "brass" highlights will add custom look. Cottage on the Hill plaque-CHARMING! Will the historical society allow a pergola over your english garden seating area? It would add some texture/dimension along with all of your new plantings and offer privacy for your bathroom window. Thanks for welcoming suggestions-it is fun to pick up the paint brush😊 Your tremendous talent and the joy this process brings to you are evident-OMG you were born to do this!
Well, let me toss my thoughts into the mix... I would love to see you try brass carriage house lanterns... Gas if possible (I know that adds a whole element of complications and I don't have them either though I WISH I did!... and a black house plaque with brass lettering... I like the idea of removing the shutters!
The thing about the shutters is that they were meant to cover the entire window when closed in bad weather. The cottage shutters are too small to achieve that if you decide to keep them.
Your home and gardens are so lovely and I enjoy the videos very much. Even more than that, I enjoy seeing the friendship between you and Stewart. All together, it is wonderful. Thank you for sharing. 🥰
The new lights for the exterior front of your home are so much better! I do like the black but can envision that some brass rub and buff might really pop! I agree that a Cottage on the Hill sign would be perfection. As much as I am excited to see your garden come together I really love seeing the inside of your home too! The Calla Lilies are one of my favorite. They grow well here in Central IL. They like full sun and well drained soil. Although I will say that mine are not far from where our dryer vents which I think is a huge help as we can get pretty cold in the winter....... but the bulbs are planted in a protected area with warmth from the dryer vent. I had no idea that the Billy bookcases could look so good. Hmmmmm.
I love the new lights and think the brass would add a lot -- great idea for the plaque to state Cottage on the Hill. Linda, you have definitely earned the large plants, trees, and the other plants to make it elegant right away--You have worked years and years to inspire us and deserve the best. I have grown calla lilies in pots for the summer. I am in zone 5 so have to dig them up and store them but well worth the effort. Your respect and kindness to the workers shows what a wonderful person you are.
I would leave the carriage lights black…and change the light above to black as well. I would leave the brass ONLY as accents on the door, mailbox and the house plaque that will be installed.
Zone 8-LOVE the black light fixtures! I “think” if you augment them with brass highlights, they’d look best if only the square box part that attaches to the brick is bronzed. Oh and OMG-cant wait to see that Snowball Viburnum grow and bloom! The Redbuds and the Viburnum were my favorites ❤️🤗 at the old house!
With your unique visions your dreamy Vater landscape will wow ! Your future will be filled with the beauty you have initiated and will provide smiles and awe.
Love love love your office, and the color palette. As soon as Stewart walked into your office. It automatically gave me a sense of serenity, and could picture lots of creativity happening in there. You might find yourself daydreaming intermittently between work sitting at your desk, and I sense that was the idea in the positioning of the desk. Love the new lights for the front porch, they will give the front porch a bright welcome to you, and your guests in the evening hours. Would you consider changing the color of the horizontal white pieces of wood that are going along the wall below the windows to the grey or black that’s on the house?
Linda is my humble opinion but I like the idea of two “rooms” your porch being one and the front patio with the table, umbrella and chairs being another room. I love your ideas and I think that you are doing great! BTW I really love your new lights for the front door.
I like the shutters...it's very "cottagy" looking with the shutters and the nice black and red contrast. The carriage lights are definitely consistant with the cottage feel. It's going to be gorgeous!
In my opinion there's nothing like "real brick"! Lucky for me, my dad accumulated some genuine old-fashioned brick and "may brick" and when he died too young left plenty yet unused. Immediately I used some, and years later after my mom died and I moved into the house where I grew up I actually did a nice job of laying brick, creating edging in front of the house, etc.-and I was a bit over 50 at the time!
You had mentioned the yellow supports for the trees as a necessity but not a favorite. My husband brought a design tip back from a trip to Disney. When they want to camouflage something like a construction wall, they paint it a dark green. So we did the same with a raised garden bed and a wooden pallet that we use for climbing vines. It turned out so well, making it all blend in with the landscape. Just a thought for your yellow tree supports.
Totally agree with you with the new lights, I thought those original lights looked out of place. Yes to taking down the shutters. It's so exciting watching all the changes Taki g place inside and out !!! The front yard is going to be so beautiful. Pretty calla lilies !
Love the new lights! Shutters need to go because it will be to crowded with shutters, larger lights and Cottage on the Hill plaque. I wonder if shutters were even part of the original design of house. They just don’t go with house. This is going to be beautiful. Your patio sounds fabulous. You have such a good eye for everything that I’m sure the patio will be perfect size when you make final decision. Thank you for sharing all this with us.
Like the black lights also and agree the shutters should go. Amazing progress. So exciting for you bet your neighbors are enjoying it also. Will be the best on the block.
You'll love the holly hedge!! It creates wonderful all season interest and will look gorgeous when it fills in. You seem to be thriving with all of the activity at the cottage.
Love how you are keeping us all updated.. two thoughts. In video time 23.39 I see an arched trellis (maybe wrought iron) over your back side gate to back yard covered with clematis or your favorite light weight vine.. thought #2 would be to put a greenhouse adjacent to your garage in back... a safe place to keep your topiaries in winter.. 😍😍
My grandmother used to grow the while calalillies and during Easter she would grate pastel chalk into a powder and use a cotton ball to dust them with different colors. They were beautiful. She grew in mostly shade in California, near Redondo Beach.
Shutters removed, love the new lights & yes on brass brushing to match jewelry on door. Plus consider the walk around space on the patio when the full diameter of the umbrella is open. I’d hate to see someone’s eye poked.
Love the black lights and might be a good idea to soften the look with a little Rub N Buff Antique Gold to blend with your other fixtures. Goes on quick with your finger , used manytimes on frames, outdoor lighting, etc.
Yes, I agree with adding some brass to those lights. I thought the same thing before you mentioned it. I love them. Everything looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing.😊
Love the new black Lanterns they match everything else. I would remove the shutters English cottages don't usually have shutters that's a European thing. Your office looks wonderful so much style who wouldn't want to work in there. X
Love the new lights, not sure about the shutters. I like the hollies but for. Me I would have planted it for privacy. Lol your house is really are close.
Love the Cottage on the Hill. I agree with the removal of the shutters. Good observation. Really like the new lights as well. So fun watching you design!
I love your new outside lamps!!! Such a great improvement over the small brass ones! I never heard of yaupon Holly's! They are beautiful..... those other holly trees you just planted on the other side look amazing too....everything happening so fast! Great inspiration for the beginning of spring!
WOW!!! Lots of changes in such a short time. It is looking so good. I see your vision Linda. I agree with taking the shutters off. The new lights are perfect and will have room to breath. I do love those little brass lights but for indoors somewhere. A suggestion that you may have considered already.... A black railing along the side might look more balanced and would be a safety measure. I would be worried about someone falling off. Plantings will definitey soften it but won't address the safety issue. So looking forward to that snowball viburnum!!! 😍
I like the small lights but the scale is not right. The new lights will look great. I agree with your idea of possibly removing the shutters. I think the arch of your door, window and roof line will be be more prominent and of course there will be more room for the larger carriage lights and plaque. So sorry to hear about the water issue in your basement but better to find out now while the landscaping is in progress should they have to do any digging around the foundation. Looking great, love your tree and shrub selection.
Linda i absolutely love the carriage style lanterns for the front entrance and are more fitting with the character of the home. I pray hint the brass on them will make them less matcha matcha and maybe more aged.
The lights you have ordered are perfect! The little lights will go well in a small spot inside with a mirror. They are very cute. I am mixed about the shutters. They look quaint, but it is busy, and will be busier with lanterns and porch furnishings.
I love your carriage house light fixtures. They do go better with your house. Love your office too is one of my favorite rooms. What am I saying, I just love your Cottage on the Hill.
Love that Stewart has become even more chatting in the videos. I am enjoying the back and forth conversation with you both
I prefer how she spoke to the audience 😜
Not for me. I don't like how he's always giggling in the background.
@@Ishisah rude
I agree with you. I really enjoy how they interact with each other. I do watch other youtube gardening channels, and by far this is my favorite because of the interaction, and of course content.
@@ollieboy3664: Stewards rude-he's alway interrupting her.
The new carriage lights are perfect. I also think you are right about taking down the shutters. It will open up the space by the entrance.
Definitely do the brass rub on the lanterns. That will be beautiful.
I wonder if brass tub on the mailbox would pull it all together.
You could use the picture function to erase the shutters to see how it looks before actually taking them down. Stewart can probably handle that feature for you Linda❣️
I like the shutters. ❤
Good idea! I like them, but maybe will look nicer without
Taken them down will make the window look much smaller.
A little Narrow shutters would correct the look if you don’t like them off totally.

Shutters down please and Thank you 🙋🏽♀️
Hint for umbrella.
💕 love your creativity
...EXCELLENT idea!...I'm inland but deal with this when thunderstorms occur! 🙄👩🏼🌾💚 =^..^=
Yes! 😃 Great idea and thanks for sharing it.
My patio has a pole like that cemented in and it sticks up a couple inches past the hole in my table. I just put the umbrella pole right over it. No need for a base! Love it!
Take the shutters down. Definitely. It will clean up the look and make your carriage lights more balanced. I’m a vote for removal. 🙋🏻♀️
I think removing the faux shutters is a great idea.
I agree.
Oh Linda!!! I love all of your ideas. Having so much fun watching!! 🌳🪴🌹🌼🌷
The shutters may have to come down for the new light fixture to fit on the left side.
I like the talk back and forth with Stewart! He has
such a pleasant voice and laugh. Also, I appreciate his artistic viewpoint.
One thing I can say about you, Linda, is the precision and speed you say you are going to do something, and voila, it is done! Very nice and awesome!

YES!!!
BTW, I think your patio is going to be gloriously perfect and beautiful. I love watching the progress. 💜
The new light fixtures are a perfect choice. Really accentuate the cottage style.
100 percent better lighting for your front yard! I like the shutters. They add character otherwise the window will look too plain
Calla lilies make a beautiful cut flower arrangement they last for a very long time. I’ve had a cut arrangement with Calla lilies for a month in my house.

The new carriage lights look great in style and size. I love the wall sign idea with “cottage on the hill” - removing the shutters will make the front look more cohesive in style. So fun watching and following along on your yard transformation !

Can't wait to sit on the patio, and look out over the garden 😍
Love the new black Lanterns they match everything else. I would remove the shutters English cottages don't usually have shutters that's a European thing. Your office looks wonderful so much style who wouldn't want to work in there. X
Yes to the new carriage lights. And, the gold rubbing idea is inspired! Definitely try that & try faux shutter removal. I love the plaque idea too.
Love the new lights, not sure about the shutters. I like the hollies but for. Me I would have planted it for privacy. Lol your house is really are close.
Good morning , oh yes, the new black carriage lamps. A nice idea to add a brass touch to them.
Love the Cottage on the Hill. I agree with the removal of the shutters. Good observation. Really like the new lights as well. So fun watching you design!
Linda, you look especially lovely in today’s video. Thank you for sharing!😊
New coach lights, planter box and removing the shutters will greatly showcase the front facade. Love all the plantings. Thanks for the update.
You could make the back plate or backplate and hanger on the new lights brass?
Thanks Linda and Stewart for this newsy video! Love it when I’m notified on TH-cam that there is something from you to view!
I think you are going to have to remove the shutters to make room for the new light fixtures.
Linda i absolutely love the carriage style lanterns for the front entrance and are more fitting with the character of the home. I pray hint the brass on them will make them less matcha matcha and maybe more aged.
The lanterns will look more balanced. Such a lovely house.
Agree with light fixtures and the removal of nonfunctional shutters.
