I actually started watching you in October 2022, this was AFTER your hospitalization...you were my inspiration to lose weight as you know and thus far...I'm at 60 lbs gone. As of today I'm driving from Holland Michigan to Roland Ark. I'm doing a walking tour and lunch at Moss Mountain Farm with P. Allen Smith. You and he will remain huge guru's for me. Yay!
This entire episode was so good ! Everything is just stunning ! You are so very gracious when it comes to addressing "suggestions " . 😂 I just can not believe the nerve of some people...To me , that would be like telling Julia Child how to cook 😆
I think some of us forget that this is ‘your & hub’s house in which you both….live.’ Of course you have thought & rethought your ideas through. Sometimes I simply have to laugh as some react with their commentary. You have done an amazing job in such a short amount of time Linda! Love, love you, your style & ideas. Bravo! 👏👏👏
Not realising how vested people are in your life, let alone your yard... wow! How about let's just Enjoy, all the beauty and hard work, and realize we are... Watching LindaVater...❤
OH MY GOODNESS! Not only was this a fun episode, please thank 'the Hubs' for his contribution of that little tiny printer!!😮🎉 I HAVE to get one!!💜 What a year you have had! Congratulations on all of your blessings and thank you for sharing with us 💗
I like the west fence….it doesn’t need to match! Plus, I like the seating area by the grill. I bet you will use it a lot this fall for a morning coffee.
I have the faith it always look beautiful…you always have a great vision… it’s fun to see everything that you put together. Like I always say, let it be your design and enjoy what you enjoy not what everybody else does just saying…🍁🍂🧡💛Kaye
Your neighbors fence color is lovely and a perfect match to the tree trunks and the weathered teak chairs. I think it would be great to have cafe lights strung from those trees to the ones on the other fence line. I love those trees and they definitely give a Mediterranean vibe. The one has a horrible pruning cut stump but you could remedy that. Or hang a basket on it for now 😂 That rain barrel is designed to look like a real wood barrel. I'd leave it brown, but you do you. I don't think EVERYTHING needs to be Vater grey. I love the basket template form idea! I'm getting an IVY for my garden journal. The wavy glass looks great. That tray just happens to be my favorite shade of blue. Love your champagne colored Christmas tree. And it is never too soon to plan ahead for Xmas decor so you can relax during the holidays. Your Xmas videos are some of my favorites. This episode was chock full of goodness.
Gosh, I love the treatment on the front door window! Brilliant idea! Everything is coming together so well. I look forward to seeing all your changes! Well done, Linda!!!❤
Loved the video. I could relate bout your surgeon passing. My orthopedic spine surgeon rebuilt me with a 3 level spinal fusion in 2012. He had a massive stroke at 66 and passed. I will never forget him, as I had many years with him of treating. These special people will never be forgotten by us. Been enjoying your videos since the pandemic. Thk u Linda and Stewart
I got the metal hose & it changed my life!!! I may have already commented on that but it is worth repeating!! Does not kink and slides around like butter. Second, comment. I ordered the boxwood basil when you first mentioned it. It never came even though I did get charged. It was a small amount so I haven't followed up, my bad. Just got reminded again that it never came. I love the little printer, saw one months ago & forgot. Thanks for this reminder too. Then, I have Bunny Williams book and on TH-cam, you can find her new tour of that house on HomeWorthy. That is a new addiction, beautiful homes shared! Great update video!!
I have to thank you Linda . As a long time gardener I wholeheartedly relate to you on so many levels . I have learned so many tidbits from you and look forward to your videos . Your house is a reflection of your impeccable style as well . Kudos to Stuart too ! ❤
Per the discussion of painting your neighbor’s fence and the rain barrel, Linda, I think it’s nice to have different shades of browns, the mulch, Linda Vater gray, etc. That is part of nature. And if you were to paint the rain barrel, the fence or anything else, then there’s additional upkeep every few years. So live with all the colors and shades as they are meant to be. Love you and all your videos. 😊
I have no worries about your unfinished areas...they will look as great as those you have completed. I ever would have thought you would accomplish all you have already. The frontdoor window looks wonderful!
Your presentation of the rounded form using upside down hanging baskets is brilliant. I have some dipladenia that would look fabulous using the form of the baskets to mound. I’m excited to see how it will look. 💗
The wooden chairs in your overflow area is perfect for barbecue area matches your stairs and water barrel naturally.I’m going to glean your yard design LOVE it👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
So sorry so sad glad you are ok I remember u had to go to the Hospital. God is good I love your couch. and yes I want that book Bunny book just love her and their house it is just beautiful all her thing and home and her garden is so beautiful.
I do have faith in you that when all is said and done your back yard will be beautiful! I had not yet followed you in your last home so when you did a flash back to your last backyard garden I saw how absolutely gorgeous it was, fully mature planting and pea stone/gravel on the exposed grounds! It was a magical space. You have the talent!!!!
Linda's yard was completely empty when she started. It's crazy that the new owners bought the fairytale house. They've redone the whole inside and are ripping out established gardens (criminal). They could have found a number of homes more to their taste.
I am sooo happy you talked and presented Dr. Doug Talamays book! He has about 6 books and I have read them all. I worked with him at his lectures and he is such a man ahead of his time! Such knowledge!!!! Its such a great idea to get peoples to read his books.
Think the sitting area by the grill will be a great small private space. Could be a favorite after you are done. Love how everything is coming along. My joyful surprise this summer has been the sunflowers that the squirrels have planted and a Roma tomato that reseeded it self.
I love how your backyard is coming along. The stairs, new windows, and I love your little pencil tree. I almost forgot, the blue tray and the marble bowls and butter container are so pretty.
I have one of those pencil Christmas trees and it’s great for fitting in a corner. You have transformed the house in a very short time 👏 You are blessed. I would love to downsize but there’s so many obstacles to that right now 😢
Ten years ago we pretty much put in a whole new yard. 13 flower gardens and a new lawn. It takes several seasons before everything comes together and you can see your vision come to life. My husband and I spent a lot of time staking off and using props. I understand your process completely. We too were getting ready for our "senior" years 😉 I can say now that nine grandchildren later it turned out perfect and it is a favorite gathering place for our family and friends.
My surprise of the week is just how much i love Joe Pye (eupatorium) in all its forms. I have a small garden and even the very tall variety is lovely and all are pollinator magnets.
Wow! This video is Jam packed with fabulous ideas! I absolutely adore your grill side garden room now! Gardens are meant to have different rooms and the neighbors fence as well as you gorgeous chairs on the brick rug will be the favorite cozy hang out spot for sure! Your plantings will bring it to life! Your ability to see these rooms before they come to fruition is what makes you the amazing master gardener! It’s the The Linda Vater vision way! That’s what I adore!! Everything Looks beautiful!!
Linda. I’m amazed at how much you have been able to accomplish in the gardens in the intense heat and also in such a short time since you moved in. I love your pared down style inside. Kudos to you 👍👍❤️ listening to your inner whisper that it was time to go a new direction. It’s just right and soooo nice. Hugs from Ohio.
One of my favorite things I planted this year is lime green Nicotiana. I guess I should call it a "signature touch" because I grew lots from seed and planted them in various spots throughout my garden. That in turn brought a "little delight" when I discovered lots of Hummingbird Moths enjoying those lime green flowers! I so enjoy seeing your garden progress, front and back, and I'm amazed at how much has been accomplished in one year! ☺
Some more wonderful tips for inside and out! Can’t wait to see what you do for fall decorations in the garden and inside! The backyard is coming together and you can never have too many seating areas ❤❤❤
Excellent signature touch episode. You are extremely consistent, Linda, and adorably elegant. I am so glad I found your channel. I learn so much from you.🌸🌸🌸
My 6 year old granddaughter and i discovered a great garden joy and surprise this week. We counted over 24 Swallowtail caterpillars on 4 parsley plants and 8 Monarch caterpillars 🐛on 3 milkweed plants! Butterfly heaven!
Brilliant idea with the picture printer. I'm so excited for my journal to arrive. I love your water barrel the colour it is. I'm in the UK, so I guess our taste is different but a beautiful wood barrel is a thing of beauty. Your barrel is a really good copy. I Personally I would keep it like a piece of art. And it will look great when the plants grow in. Fabulous video thank you. 🎉
Love the window treatment. I too like my privacy especially since getting older and worrying about someone looking in day or night. Cute tree and you will love it when you don’t feel like decorating a big tree.
Thanks Linda for sharing your beautiful home and garden. Great tips and thanks to Hubs for the printer can't wait to get one. Disappointed to not hear what you were wearing and earing's. Love your hair style. Thanks
Thank you for all the good tips. Window excellent, marble excellent, ivy printer and journal super excellent! Also at the very end, your thoughtfulness for those suffering is so sincerely felt. Love your light. Way, way down here in MS, on the Gulf of Mexico, I see it shining. Would love to meet you someday on the social patio. 💫
I love following you and all your inspirations! You’ve given me some hope that my newly landscaped yard may survive this hellish heat in Houston! The back yard is looking so stunning. 😍👏🏻
I agree, have always loved Bunny, but, I also like a more paced back look at this point in my life. We are 75 and building for the fourth time. I love Bunny,s book ❤and it certainly inspires me, but, in a more minimal way. You have done an incredible job with both your house and outdoor space. My only concern is that financially it’s not achievable for many of us. Please start realizing this and present content that more can achieve. Still, thank you, love your sensibility and design ideas.
It's interesting that the neighbors fence has the good side and you're seeing the posts. In most communities the bad side faces the owner who put it up.
Linda, love the flowers I’m so glad they can stand up so beautiful in this heat wave we are to getting the heat here in the east love your dress and the layout of your flowers as always!
My suggestion for your side garden door is to make the door look like a Dutch door. Leave the bottom in place and only add the top half door. To add to your signature touches make the top of it to mimic the arched front door complete with a round window opening without glass, of course. The upper door could be made of solid wood or lattice to complement the the lattice work above your fence.
Awesome! Your door window is BEAUTIFUL! Backyard steps YES👏🏽👏🏽❤️ I agree with you your water barrel is located easy for you. I absolutely love your backyard living room.
Everything and I mean everything is coming together SO beautifully, inside and out. Only one comment I have, because you mentioned it in your video re: the water barrell. I personnally don't think you should be painting it "cottage grey." Sometimes too matchy-matchy seems contrived instead of the natural look you are designing. I love the grey, offset with the brick/terra cotta with the green and colorful plantlife. The "brown barrel" suits itself and the motif of the backyard...IMHO.
I love your rain barrel ! I think it’s perfect for your vintage home and the color is fine like it is. You do not have too many seating areas. You are creating garden rooms and the furniture makes it perfect. You should ignore all those ridiculous comments from stupid people.
Loving it ALL! But I just can’t get past that lovely blue settee! Would love that in my kitchen seating area. You are beautiful as always! Hi Stewart & Leah!
Love the new window film on your front door. Design is perfect. Neighbor’s fence color blends well with everything else, no need to paint. I think the color of the rain barrel is fine as is too. I try to never create extra work for myself, especially unnecessary work. Although “Vater Gray” is lovely, I like the variety of similar tones. Best to not have everything too “matchy” matchy”. So sad about your wonderful surgeon. Such a tragedy for the world to lose a gifted surgeon who gave so much to others. Metallic tree is adorable. Can’t wait to see it decorated.
I love how you pulled it all together from the love of gardening surprises and design right into the design and surprises of life. We are all so blessed to be able to embrace and revel in our gardens and work with and for nature. Life is part of that nature.
I am SO happy to see your Christmas board and what you are getting started with for the holidays! Yes, its early but in years past I have loved what you've done and there was not enough time to copy. Thank you!!
And just like that, I have a new tray on order 😊 I love the S&H chairs near the grill…great spot for the griller or a accompanying guest. It might end up being THE cozy spot for coffee or reading as it’s tucked in a smaller section of the back yard. (I secretly hoped that’s where they’d end up.) Things are starting to button up & work in process “stuff”is diminishing. I’m in awe how much has been accomplished in such a short time! Oh, my garden delight was noticing a starship rose cardinal flower that survived a pretty major garden revamp…planting more next spring to join it!
Wonderful Segment! You inspire all of us Linda with so many great ideas, knowledge and wisdom that I myself have embraced and implemented in my own home, garden and work. As a designer for Pottery Barn I pass your ideas on to my clients. Your love for the beautiful goes much further than you realize. Thank you. It's been so fun and inspiring to watch the unfolding of your new home and garden.
Brilliant idea to use a template (coir baskets)to make mounded forms! I am going to do that when pruning my boxwoods, thank you! (btw- your cottage on the hill is looking absolutely fabulous!)
No snakes--that's nice. Our neighborhood is always experiencing non-poisonous snakes as well as rattlesnakes, copperheads, and moccasins (Alabama). Lizards of several varieties, skinks, green frogs, an occasional toad, hummingbird moths, many types of birds (tons of hummers), bees, dragonflies, and wasps abound here in my garden!
The rain barrel is in a good location, your front door window was a great idea and works well without sacrificing light. Think twice about painting your neighbors fence, our neighbor did what you suggested only in red and only painted her side; however the paint leaked between the slats and stained our side. 😢 leave the fence alone, no one will ever notice it. ❤
I love what you are doing with your property. It an inspiration. By the way, I love all of your seating areas. If a you are a person who entertains you need those seating nooks. I think some viewers might be minimalist gardeners. Stay true to your wonderful vision.
I actually started watching you in October 2022, this was AFTER your hospitalization...you were my inspiration to lose weight as you know and thus far...I'm at 60 lbs gone. I am just in awe of your energy with so many projects! Do you ever get exhausted 😊 everything looks wonderful inside and out!
Your neighbors fence doesn't bother at all.. I think it actually blends into your space. Those cedar trees are gorgeous!
1 year!! Congratulations Linda! And look at all you have accomplished! I admire you!
I LOVE the front door window treatment! It is so beautiful!
OK, I pre-ordered my journal! And the baby printer too. The idea of garden photos to go in the journal is such a great one.
OH MY GOODNESS! Not only was this a fun episode, please thank 'the Hubs' for his contribution of that little tiny printer!!😮🎉

Yes!
Love the artificial tree. Can imagine it decorated for every season, not just Christmas.

Linda's yard was completely empty when she started. It's crazy that the new owners bought the fairytale house. They've redone the whole inside and are ripping out established gardens (criminal). They could have found a number of homes more to their taste.

I love my hose!! No stress anymore with kinks!!
Think the sitting area by the grill will be a great small private space. Could be a favorite after you are done. Love how everything is coming along. My joyful surprise this summer has been the sunflowers that the squirrels have planted and a Roma tomato that reseeded it self.
I love the wood barrel just the way it is It does need to be gray.. So loving your new adventures in the COTTAGE ON THE HILL.
The door window looks great!
Love that Christmas tree and the stand
We love the garden hose & all of your knowledge dropping!
Linda, I love your attention to detail!!! Everything is coming along beautifully!!! ❤

Excellent signature touch episode. You are extremely consistent, Linda, and adorably elegant. I am so glad I found your channel. I learn so much from you.🌸🌸🌸
I do love the hose, and my landscaper did, too.
Great video.Grayson is a very good worker always smiling 😊
My 6 year old granddaughter and i discovered a great garden joy and surprise this week. We counted over 24 Swallowtail caterpillars on 4 parsley plants and 8 Monarch caterpillars 🐛on 3 milkweed plants! Butterfly heaven!
I enjoy the attention you pay to viewer questions. I read many of the comments, so it’s interesting to hear your perspective.
That back garden is EVERYTHING! perfect!
It so beautiful those stairs in the back is everything you paid the way you wanted it to be after all u paid for it. Love everything
We bought the metal hose & love it! Thank you for all your recommendations!
I love following you and all your inspirations! You’ve given me some hope that my newly landscaped yard may survive this hellish heat in Houston! The back yard is looking so stunning. 😍👏🏻
You made me cry to hear about your general surgeon. How very sad. Sending him and his family blessings.
Oh I understand. That’s why thrifting is such a fun hobby🩵
It's interesting that the neighbors fence has the good side and you're seeing the posts. In most communities the bad side faces the owner who put it up.
I love the placement of the rain barrel!!! Also, very practical!! Please don’t completely obscure. ❤❤
Linda, love the flowers I’m so glad they can stand up so beautiful in this heat wave we are to getting the heat here in the east love your dress and the layout of your flowers as always!
Thanks for the Christmas board - mood board and sharing! I,too,am planning way ahead! ✝️🎄
Hi, Linda. I think that your cottage is beautiful. Thank you for your video. ❤️
I think that's the first time we've seen the new steps from the other side. Now I get it! 💚
I've loved An Affair with a House for so long and look at it often!
Awesome! Your door window is BEAUTIFUL! Backyard steps YES👏🏽👏🏽❤️ I agree with you your water barrel is located easy for you. I absolutely love your backyard living room.

Brilliant idea to use a template (coir baskets)to make mounded forms! I am going to do that when pruning my boxwoods, thank you! (btw- your cottage on the hill is looking absolutely fabulous!)
Anyone else like the white trim on the new window? I think the contrast is nice and looks very cottage to me. 🤷🏼♀️
I think one railing on the side is enough. I hope it doesn’t end up looking cluttered again. It is your house though! 😊 Always enjoy you!
My delight of the week was a single yellow pansy... in August! Hiding in a shady spot in my garden
Wow! Hi Linda, Leah and Stewart. I just finished watching your video. You gave advice and information on so many topics. Thank you! 😊
LOVE the door window. Love the rain barrel too and suggestion to paint is a good one. Yes, your spare area totally makes sense.
Thank you Linda, from a gardening lady in Australia🌸🌼🌺
You’re such a class act
I just love a nice little pencil tree.
Thank you dear. Good morning 🌞
I'm glad you have taken a variety of risks so that your life functions beautifully! I know I love being me as I'm so sure you love being you
🧡💛💚
That window treatment in your front door is beautiful! I’d be tempted to put it on the principle bathroom window too.
