Gonna be biggest week of year once I run long run tomorrow. 80+ miles. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday recovery runs. Wednesday 10x2x200 meter hills. Friday AM 5x6:00 with 2 minute jog rests. Started at 3:39km pace, worked down to 3:29km. PM 8x1k with 1 minute jog rests, averaged 3:18km. 5 mile race next Saturday against buddy who broke US 45-49 age group record for 50k in race Des broke 50k record, so it's gonna be a heck of a race.
Great video!! I agree too much trunk lean will decrease glut activation, which is your power house 🏡 muscle with running. I sometimes see some people be quad dominate runners and running in the saddle. Thank you sharing!!
Sometimes taking my feet to ice-water or snow after longrun. I tried to lean forward two weeks ago when I had 800m race also same thing I tried to do few days ago on final lap of 1500m. If I go any longer distance and slowing down with the pace it's best I just stay relaxed and try to move my arms wishing legs to follow. Also after 431day streak there's been days to learn how to run in soreness ☺️ sometimes slow pace is golden and there's nothing to shame of.
Your streak is phenomenal and yes, I’m not surprised you have to run with soreness once in a while, especially after some of your blazing fast efforts! I also agree that there’s nothing wrong with running slow. We’d all have a lot fewer injuries if we all did it a bit more! 👊🏼
I love your science-based talks! Ice baths are a hard #$%& NO for me. I'm a total wuss, and any benefits are wiped out by my misery. Lol And I've just recently started noticing that when my knee starts aching during a run, I've allowed myself to either lean or just slouch. As soon as I straighten up, the pain abated. It's great to hear it's not my imagination! I've been struggling with conflicting info online of whether to lean or not to lean.
You’re not alone with your ice-bath wussiness…..not a fan. As far as your lean when running, a slight forward lean is fine, but slight is the key word. It should be a comfortable lean and not only your upper body leaning. 👊🏼
The whole leaning/slouching when tired is normal behavior, but it can be fixed with strength training (core) and mindfulness. I have to remind myself to stand up straight at the end of my long runs.
Question, i have 2 marathon on 1 weekend. Half Marathon then Full the next day. Should i get an ice bath after the half marathon? Mind you, this is my first marathon hehe
Wow! It's going to be a fun weekend! As far as ice baths, if you use them in training then you'll be fine to take one after the half marathon, but otherwise I wouldn't. Just stay off your feet after the first race and do some gentle stretching! Good luck! LMK how it goes!
@@its_Matt_B_ Thank you Matt. It will be on the Gold Coast Australia. 63.3km run :). Really appreciate this. Coz i'm a bit concern that everytime I do a 10k or 21k, i'm experiencing ITB pain on my knee.
Only 3 runs this week all 13.1 just want that time in on the road could run everyday lots of other training. I have used ice baths and I know what you mean that shock of cold water it takes about 60 to get past that shock Canada's water is cold 🥶
3 runs this week is great! Your body is thanking you for it! 👊🏼 I’d love to do a polar plunge one day (read: I’d love to say I’ve done a polar plunge one day).😂

Woah! What a week! I’m looking forward to seeing how the race goes!
👌🏼 when is your shin splints video coming out? Patiently waiting! Thank you
It’s on the list! 👊🏼
Are you like Mike? Let’s see that lean and your best moonwalk lol great video Matt
Gotta keep the art and the artist separate on this one! That lean tho…..🔥

It's interesting how running styles adapt and moreover adapt to ways that aren't ideal.

I soak in a bath with epsom salt after a race. Seems to really help with soreness
I assume you soak in a hot bath. I don’t think anyone would use the term “soak” to refer to their time in an ice bath. 😂
I actually like ice baths day before race. Increases leg spring stiffness like plyometrics do and you run faster.
Excellent! That seems like an inside training secret! Nice!
Have you ever done a polar plunge?
@@its_Matt_B_ oh ya. I enjoy Win Hoff method.
@@cakej1 I had to look it up, and I like the sound of it. For those interested, check out www.wimhofmethod.com/

I'm a big fan of hot tub. Ice only in my drink 🍸. Have a great week
