    When I’m training for a summer marathon, I’ll do most of my key workouts and long runs in the hottest part of the day so that I’m acclimated on race day. This has paid huge dividends so far.
    I haven’t really raced much in the fall, but once the temperatures start to come back down a bit I definitely feel more comfortable. Last November’s HM time trial was a good example of the training starting in the heat (late August) and by race day having nice temps for running (I think it was in fact 59F that morning).

      You’re so good to train during the hottest parts of the day! It’s important to get that training stimulus, and hot weather running just gives us a little extra kick!

    Should have watched this before my run this morning 😂😂😂. Very hot and humid in Virginia.
    I did go really slow, and pace was real easy the entire time, but that sun was baking me. I wanted 20 miles stopped at 18.32. I was still happy with the run considering how uncomfortable the weather was.

    Great video Matt. I was in South Florida (Miami) for work this week and know what you mean with the heat and oppressive humidity that I felt when running super early in the mornings. It’s easy to get discouraged but need to remember it is time well spent to build fitness. It certainly makes the effort feel much easier when it finally cools off (and humidity trails). Thanks for posting this good reminder !!

      Cheers, Mark! I imagine it must be quite a bit worse to just land in Miami and go for a run. It’s slight less horrible when you get used to it! 🤣

    It's so hot in Florida to be running right now it's brutal

    Interesting video Matt. It’s been really warm in my area and yet I’m finding my times improving. I think it comes down to mind over matter. When it’s cold out you want to get it done as fast as you can to get out of the cold.
    When it’s hot out. You’re body tends to want to go a bit slower to adapt to the heat.

      Nailed it. Adaptation is what it’s all about!

    I despise east coast humidity, but know it will help me on the fall. Thanks for the video. Explains why my 10k pace was slower mid July as compared to my 10k in early may because i know i was in better condition and stronger.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! Just because we’re in better shape doesn’t always mean we’re going to run faster! Trust the training and when cool weather rolls around….🏃🏻‍♀️💨

    My last couple of runs when temps here in uk were around 25-26c I felt awful afterwards as my effort level was through the roof to keep hitting the goal pace for the runs , which was only 8min/mile. Hopefully once travel opens up again I will be able to suffer in the Florida heat whilst running, aided by a recovery dip in the pool with an ice cold beer!! 🤣

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s all about the recovery! 🍻 Remember you don’t always have to hit the same paces when it’s hot, unless you’ll be racing in the heat. You could aim for effort rather than pace! That way when the temperature gets cool, you’ll automatically get faster!

    So true, I always race better in cooler weather after training in hot weather. Most of my PR's from 1 mile to 50k have been between October to May.

      Summer training brings fall PRs. 🤔 I wonder it’ll there is a saying like that but one that rhymes. Something like April showers bring May flowers.
