    I’m gonna give this another try. I have a long putter. But I have been just a little off with the standard putters. I’m hoping for the best. Thanks for the rules clarification

    Im 6'4" and hate putting because its so uncomfortable and makes me feel a bit dizzy. Gonna try one of these out for sure

    Used one for 20 years. Nothing would make me change to short putter. The key is to practice with it for sometime before dismissing it.

    I'd love to hear the reason they banned anchoring or resting a hand against your body. When I was trying out long putters at the PGA Tour Superstore, I was attracted to them because having my top hand pressed against my sternum made for a more stable pivot point. I gotta say... now that I've learned that putting in that manner wouldn't even be legal, I don't see how there would be any added stability. If anything, you're now introducing WAY more variables into what should be an extremely simple putting stroke with minimal variability. That said, I can imagine having a long putter is helpful for the balance issues you described in the beginning of the video, but for the every-day golfer, I have a hard time imagining that a long putter would make them more consistent with having to have your elbow bowed out away from your body. Who knows... maybe I'll try them out again with the proper form next time I get the chance, and see if I feel any differently. Thank you for making the video!

      I agree with you on the introduction of many more variables. The reasoning (as I understand it) for not allowing you to anchor the putter was the belief that it gave those using a long or belly putter had a clear advantage in anchoring and eliminating part of the human/execution element to the stroke. The PGA of America, and other organization including the PGA Tour, spoke out against this rule. The good it does for so many people with disabilities and the way it made a difficult sport just a little better for beginners, we believed, outweighed the “advantage” it gave. Unfortunately the USGA went forward with the rule anyhow.

      @@AndyWeissinger That makes a lot of sense, thank you for the reply!

    Hi Andy. I understand that you can't anchor the long putter against your body when putting on the green. However , does that ruling also apply when one is off the green but elects to use the long putter rather than a wedge to get onto the green ? Cheers.

    Hobby club builder and going to build one. How do you measure length? Yours looks mid chest height.

    • @AndyWeissinger

      yes - just figure out how much you want to bend over and then go from there.

      @@seanthompson3775 it turned out well. Bought the double bend shaft off eBay. Lesson learned on the grip install. Key start with whole piece of tape for lower grip. Install and normal grip. Cut away part of tape on shaft that is exposed. I've holed more putts with it. It's staying in my bag.

      Also I did not cut the shaft. Left it factory size. Grip end came to my upper chest. Happy with it.

    Hi Andy - this putter doesn't come in the broomstick version. Did you re-shaft it yourself? If so, does the shaft you put in it give you the 79.5 or 80* lie angle you want?

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did modify it myself. I had to bend the shaft to get the proper lie angle.

    • @seanthompson3775

      Was this difficult to do? Isn’t it way too light for a long putter?

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seanthompson3775 it was not too difficult. I just had to be patient in the heating process and then when it was ready apply gentle pressure and be quick with the water when I had it where I wanted. As for the weight, it was rather heavy to begin with so when I made it long it still had great balance and feel. With the added length it did change to a slight toe hang vs the face balance in the shirt version, but with the long putter you are going to want a slight toe hang so it works great.

      Have a look at LAB golf. All the pro's who use broomstick putters (Adam Scott, Lucas Glover etc) are using LAB's. They are quite a bit more expensive than Scotty's, but worth it IMO.

    Anchoring does nothing. If there is any unfairness it is left arm position. That can be used to block out blade twisting. It teaches one to go under and not around through impact. Many touring pros use it for that purpose during practice only. My make rate from six feet is 100 out of 100 anchored or not anchored. And it never made any difference to the leading Senior winner. Me either. Again, the ease of left arm blade twist lockout could be considered cheating by some if they knew how easy that is. Some top college putting coaches teach this as a method of practice only. I was taught this by an active touring pro myself. He practices blade twist lock out one hour a day with the long putter. Uses the reg short putter on the golf course. He was one of only four people under 25 to lead into the final round of the U.S. Open. He could play.

    Hi Andy, i have the hardest time with long putts with my long putter. Mid and short putts are good, but the long ones i get a lot of hop on the ball and i always get about halfway or a little more to the hole on a long putt.
    Please help 🙏

      Try to play with your ball position, also relax your trail arm and feel as if you are rolling it with your hand as if you were trying to get as smooth a roll as you can. Even practice with a ball in hand trying to roll it and then imitate that motion when you put your hand back on the putter. I’ll try to make a video on some drills for you.
