  • A quick compare of the Predator 212 hemi versus non hemi harbor freight engine. Dyno HP and Torque numbers, parts availability, part compatibility, intake and exhaust differences.
    I checked with a few people on horsepower, and flywheel regarding can you put a charging coil on the predator and there will be more results on that soon. Supposedly there is a kohler engine flywheel that can go onto the hemi crankshaft, but I have not been able to verify it as of yet.

    One reason we found out is because in stock hemis, the rocker arms & pushrods (also a few grams heavier in hemi) are tilted away from each other and causes more friction and valve float happens easier & at lower rpms

    Today I bought the 69730 "Non Hemi" because 60363 "The Hemi" was on back-order. At the store I was looking at the picture on the box of the "non-Hemi" 69730 and it had pictures and specs for the hemi motor but the part # of the non hemi.... I figured it was just a generic box. Got home and Bam! It's a Hemi IN THE BOX!!! Super Stoked!

      There are several item numbers and it can get a little confusing. There are 2 numbers specifically for California and it's a different engine as well.

      I just got back from my HF and they only had the Hemi.. worker said they never know what theyre going to get from the manufacturer. How did you get the motor for $100? HF stopped printing coupons a while back. Was there a big sale ?

    Non-Hemi is the way to go. I have both. Same mods and non-hemi is faster and just seems like an overall better build quality. Hemi has had more problems and shakes for some reason at a certain rpm.

      I threw on a big pipe on my hemi and a air filter and when I say big pipe it's a 450 dirt bike pipe and it made it run smooth it let it revs way more without that shaking my hands off lol you got to let the engine breath or it will hold it back and make it vibrant bad I lost about 50% or a little more just doing the pipe

    I remember when I took a non hemi and a hemi and put them together and it worked perfectly.I wonder what your going to build next with those engines.

      I always leave a few of them stock for comparison videos and to baseline the dyno. Next videos in MIND but not finalized are high compression head and porting videos! Gotta figure out what's up with all the delays in shipped parts though lol

    I got a hemi and I put a pipe on it and made a air filter fit and it revs Idk if it's just me but it seems better than the non hemi then I ported it took the edges out of the ports and that made it rev a lot more with just my hand made mods I would say I'm pushing 10+ hp it spends the wheel a bit on my mini bike and it does 40-50 with a clutch but I can see the other motor being a little better stock bit it was hard to tell but doing what I do hemi all the way for sure

    Would you recommend the 212 as a alternative swap in a 4 wheeler that was originally a 185cc? 4 wheeler was a free project, 86 suzuki lt185 with a seized engine.. budget on another toy is thin due to car & truck projects along with kids mini bikes but was thinking I'd get the 4 wheeler running just so I had a toy to ride along with them..lol

    Thanks for the video. I just purchased the 212 hemi version for a snow thrower, replacing a 208cc LCT engine. Do you know the thread size for the mounting holes (only the tapped/threaded side)? I swapped out everything freom the LCT to the Predator, and it all bolted up nicely, even the drive side plate because the LCT's plate came with the oil dip stick extension. Also swapped the muffler, carb, and engine cut. Started up 1st pull. Only need to figure out the mounting holes which for whatever reason are slightly larger than the LCT's.

    I have 212 cc predator. The number on the starting coil is non hemi however I have the hemi valve cover air filter and spark arrestor.

    I built 2. One hemi, one non-hemi with a hemi piston. Both have billet rods and flywheels. Both have 18# springs. Both have Ruixing 212 carbs with 140/38 jets, intake and headers. Each one is on a DB30S with a Max Torque SS 12t and the rear sprockets are within a couple teeth of each other. They have the zip tie hack done only. I prefer the hemi myself.

      @@jairoperez4230 Did you take the governor off? The fact it just shuts off makes me think of the oil sensor not being removed.

    the hemis had bad automatic decompression release on the camshafts they have been up dated . need parts toro uses the same engines on the newer power max and snow master. toro and ariens/gravely dealers can get parts for most Harbor Freight engines just show original part at counter and what engine it is.

    I'm so confused now, I have the 69730 It has the round vertical 2 stage air filter, the rectangular not shiney valve cover and the spark arrestor.

    I only want one for a mini bike. So if the hemi only has a few problems with stock parts, fuck it. Remove ALL restrictions and upgrade all internal parts. By then wouldn't the hemi perform better? Just curious. Would putting a hemi into one myself do me good?

    Hey I live in Minnesota too! Question, do Tillotson 212’s really come stock with 10 horsepower? I’m trying to decide if I should grab a Tilly or a predator for my Yerf Dog go kart

      Minnesota represent!! The Tilly 212 engines do not come with 10 HP stock. I did a predator versus Tillotson 212 R video that shows HP side by side on some engines. GREAT engines though, VERY good parts and ingenuity!

      Awesome thank you so much for the response! I will check out that video. I just took my Yerf Dog on White Bear Lake yesterday and drifted it around for hours! I have a Robin Subaru OHC EX21 engine on it right now, it’s an amazing engine and runs super smooth. The only problem I run into is all performance parts are rare to find and insanely expensive!! I wish there was some clones of that engine or more aftermarket parts because I really love that engine but I want more power. I’ll most likely be putting a Tillotson 212 on it or a Predator 420, not sure yet

      Are there any perks to having a Hemi except as he said in the video- bragging rights, but whats there to brag about if a Hemi is the same or from what I been seeing in comments is that its more limited than the non-hemi. So if anything wouldnt the non-hemi be the better motor to use since it seems more can be done with it in terms of mods

    I recommend personally that a non-hemi would work best. I've heard the hemi engines had something to do with valve issues, but I'm not entirely sure. In my honest opinion, the non-hemi engines have more reliability to them, and they're easier to work on, especially installing stage kits for performance.

      Piston to valve contact is much more likely on a hemi due to the angle of the valve. Using the proper pushrods and valve springs when doing a build on these is important. Ive heard of a few getting bent valves.

      I kept the stock engine and added a tct carburetor to the yard machine. But, if I had to choose for snow thrower I'd do the hemi in it... With a tct carburetor.

      @@megoingfast Thanks for your speedy reply, took mine in on a recall for wheels and looks like the didn't put belly plate back on and it was not starting, I thought they intentionally messed it up because recall was free. I drained carb and it started but I was on my way to purchase the harbor freight engine rather than getting a new craftman snow thrower

      may try the vertical predator engine on a pressure washer I have (BLACKMAX) if i get the pump. hope it's just bolt on and go .

      For tiller, the little bit extra torque from the hemi is nice. But, depends what is available in the area.

      Non-Hemi. I've had issues with the Hemi here or there. Just had to swap non-hemi parts onto a hemi today even for my last video. True story. However, if it's just the engine or to stage 1, most will prefer the Hemi. I typically build my non-hemis out quite a bit. I don't know if I even have one left stock.

    I got the hemi out of happen stance and even the 212 isn't much better than the 193(?) Clone engines. Yeah more torque but they seem to still be pretty even.

      Hemi has the dull iron looking boxy cover, the non-hemi is has more of an aluminum shine to it and has an octagon cover.

    Nice...With the throttle stop screw removed you can see that these engines run too lean stock for the mini bike or go kart application because max HP occurred before max RPM.
    The test I would like to see is the dyno numbers with both engines with stage one kits and throttle stop screw removed.
    I'm surprised the better rocker system on the Hemi is no help with performance. I thought they would be worth 1/2 HP or so. Maybe the Hemi rockers would help at higher RPM with a stage 1 kit?

      I've been told by someone doing flow tests the porting and head on the non-hemi is better from out of box.

      Hemi does not have to do with the piston, Hemi has to do with the angle of the valves in the head. The Hemi model is just "known to have a flat top piston". The non-hemi has a dished piston, the hemi has a flat top piston. The head for hemi is hemispherical. My latest video of predator hemi versus Ducar hemi shows internally the heads better if that will help with visuals.

      Congrats! All the people saying don't wear it you're the first to ask!
      The channel started as "me". It was about anything I could find and show anyone could do - nameless, faceless, anyone could be like "me" and have fun and experience life! No face was needed to be shown. Well, the channel changed into small engine Motorsports orientation and picked up some steam getting views. The threat of losing ones job became real if you were goofy and the threat set in if someone showed my goofy ways to an employer I'd loose any chance to be employed.
      So, I keep the helmet on. Also, I have a horrible echo in my garage I'm working to get rid of and sometimes use the helmet camera. Very bad sound koality... Working on it. Lol

      the helmet is cool.. Once you start makign some money on these videos when you get move followers and views.. perhaps you can upgrade your look to resemble Tron from Tron: Legacy.. that would be pretty cool.. getting taught motor engineering by Tron himself.
