    thank you for putting this out and keeping it on for so many year, mine started to produce a bad contact, when I switch it on it sometimes hold but most of the times it just turns off, if I put pressure on the switch or the selector knob it stays on, as soon as I release the pressure it just turns off. I will see if the screw is a bit loose or if there is corrosion on it...
    Thank you in advance. I plan to do a Full spectrum for astro photography too, that will be hard tho... 21k views and just 185 likes, people should be a bit more generous like you are.

    Using this series i have fixed the power button which was slightly corroded and also astro modified the camera at the same time. The diagrams are a great help, no way i would have kept track of all those tiny screws. Thanks a million, Bob!

      I'm glad they helped you out Colin. And I'd sure be curious to find out how your astro shots turn out after removing the IR screen. I've been thinking of doing that to one of my cameras as well, but haven't yet. -Bob

    cool... good tutorial... having same problem, but for me that's too complicated to open and fix... however one importance point from this video, that the issue could be from corrosion, so I try to switch on-off for 50 times... and it works better now..... thanks....

    Hello, Mr. Robot, I have a Canon 60D that went out and did not turn on. Can you provide me with some extinguishing problems?

    • @Thebobfactor

      Sorry about your camera Mohamed. At this stage unfortunately, without doing any testing on it, it could be anything. The first thing to check would be the basic stuff of ensuring the battery is good condition, and also checking that the small battery door switch appears to be operating and is not stuck. Also check to see that there is nothing inside the battery compartment that may be preventing the battery from making good contact with the metal contacts that are in the bottom. The next steps would require opening the camera and testing the power board. Sorry I can't be more help.

    What would be the best thing to use to clean the corrosion off?

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any type of electronic cleaner that doesn't leave any residue will work Leremy. If the corrosion is too heavy for the cleaner to remove, you may need to rub the contact areas lightly with some fine sand paper. Just be sure to remove any debris left behind from the sanding. And here's a link for some CRC electronic cleaner that works well: www.amazon.com/CRC-05101-QD-Electronic-Cleaner/dp/B000CCMLD0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1519402482&sr=8-2&keywords=crc+quick+dry+electronic+cleaner

      @@les9030 Is there anything flashing on the top LCD? Double check to make sure the limit switch in the battery compartment is working and that the battery compartment door appears to be pushing on it when the door is closed. If everything looks fine there, then you should check the power board using a multi-meter. I show how to test it in this video: th-cam.com/video/yeCrpv_u1Zw/w-d-xo.html. Let me know what you find.

    hi! I know this video is a year old, but I do have a quick question. Once the switch is back together, is there a way to test if it works without re-assembling the whole camera? I was planning on jumping from your first video, where you take off the outer casing and jumping straight to this. Also, is it necessary to take off ALL the casing components before youʻre able to take off the top?
    Thanks for the videos and sorry to bother you on an old video!

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only way that you could test it, would be to use a multi-meter and check for continuity between some specific pins on the flat ribbon cable that comes off of the top. It's a bit tough testing it that way, but it can be done. Let me know if you want to try it, and I will figure out what pins to test on, and what readings you would expect to get. As far as taking the top off, you will need to take the front and, back covers, and the end piece off first. Canon sure doesn't make it easy to get to it.

    hi sir robert. i have canon 60D but my problem is power switch button. a little bit hard to push. to get power on, my camera. working before. and now, is not power on completly dead. it could be the problem? is the power switch? button maybe there is some debris? inside thanks for the video and response?

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi normz. Yes, since it was already turning on hard, then that would be a good place to start with. I've never had a power switch go bad, but something was obviously going on with it on yours if it was turning on hard. There are also two micro switches that could prevent the camera from turning on, one being under the SD card cover, and the other under the battery compartment cover. So you might double check both of those covers to make sure that they are closing properly first. Good luck with it. Give me a shout if you run into any problems. -Bob

    What causes these switches to lose functionality? Getting wet? Leaving them in the on position and they never move which causes them to build resistance? I have a very low mileage 60d that I never get wet and is in beautiful condition and want to prevent this.....appreciated

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know of anything specific that causes them to go bad Francis. I would say from just simple wear-and-tear from a lot of usage, or from being around salt water a lot. I have had three 60Ds now, and I've never encountered the problem with the power/mode switch on any of them, unlike some who have had that problem. My cameras have been wet from rain too, but they've never been wet from salt water or spray.

      Robert Hosea thanks for the quick reply! I love my 60d. I don’t really shoot at the beach. Hopefully my dials and switches hold up! I’m pretty careful to have dry hands and not get them wet. Much appreciated. Have you had the quick dial or set button problem on your 60d’s?

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@franciscole3039 No, so far I've been pretty lucky and never had a problem with the power and mode selector switch. I have had the shutter wear out on one that had a lot of usage, and I had to replace the SD card slot on another one. I also replaced the glass over the main LCD display, and also the upper LCD display. But both of those were due to dropping the camera I think. Considering what I have put mine through, they are a pretty tough camera.

    Hello. I found a second hand canon 650d with lens at a very good price (~120$), only the seller says the mode dial only works in auto mode. Would you say it was worth buying and trying to fix it with a factory reset, or your method of cleaning the corrosion? Thank you.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's pretty hard to say. I'm not familiar with the 650d at all, or how it's mode selector switch works. I would imagine it's similar to the 60D's. But a problem like that could also be associated with a defective circuit board. And on Ebay the main board goes for over $100. Like you said though, that is a great price. At the very least you could probably earn your money back just by parting it out and selling the parts on Ebay.

    Hi, my the mode selector of my EOS 500 D broke off, is there way to fix it?

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the 500D at all. But, when looking at a replacement dial assembly for the 500D, it looks very similar in operation to a 60D. So it may be "generally" the same procedure as shown in this video.
      Here's a link to the assembly that I found on eBay for your camera:
      www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Canon-500D-Digital-SLR-Top-Cover-Dial-Mode-Replacement-Button-/232496623221?hash=item3621e0ee75:g:T0UAAOSwak5ZxB6F
