    Thank you for an absolutely excellent series of videos. I don't have this model, but a 1DX2, which is dead. I have taken all outer shells off, cleaned them up and also freed the two stuck buttons. Now turning on, but as I click the shutter/mirror, it kind of gets stuck. So I think there's an object , dissolved magnesium from the bodyshell or a short in the motor that moves the mirror. So having just updated the firmware to newest, I will take it apart again. I think as Canon no longer supports their cameras, after 10 years, they could at least do a series of these videos for every past model. And they could ask you to do it, because you sure lead the way. Your videos are WAY above all other videos on the matter.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Kind regards.

    Hi Mr. Hosea. Thank you again for your tutorials. You have opened up a whole new World for me! Thank you also for the links for the tools. You have a unique talent of imparting knowledge that is rare. I am so appreciative to have discovered your work! Do you think I would have to get further training to be able to work in this field of repair and would you have any recommendations for that? Thank you soooo much !!!

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alicen. Well, that's actually kind of tough for me to say if you need further training, since I don't know what knowledge you currently have in the electrical repair field. You will need to have a good understanding of basic electricity. Even though in most cases you wouldn't actually be repairing a circuit board in a camera (such as changing out semiconductors, etc.), but instead you would be replacing the entire circuit board. So you will need to know how to use a multi-meter to check voltage levels, and check continuity on trace lines, flat ribbon cables, etc. And you will need to know how to use a soldering iron. You also need to have a basic understanding of the function of each circuit board, such as the SD card board, power board, main board, etc. I don't have any specific links to give you for any of that. But there are a lot of sites out there that have tutorials on the basics of electricity, and understanding OHMS law, and using multi-meters. That is where I would suggest starting if you don't already know that part of it. I'm self taught in everything that I know about electricity, computer programming and photography. It really is pretty satisfying to learn new things. And with the internet today, there is always someone ready to help if you don't understand something. Good luck with it Alicen. And feel free to ask me questions any time.

    Here is the million dollar question, if you have time to answer. What happens if you followed another video and there was no mention of marking the sensor screws and you completely jacked up the focal point of your camera, how would you go about resetting the sensor for proper focus across the sensor? Thanks.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ugh. Well, I've never done it, but from what I understand it would have to be trial and error. I don't know of anything out there that shows how to specifically and accurately do it. To do it yourself, you could start with the screws being set similar to where they were with the 60D in this video. Then using a focusing sheet, snap a picture, analize the focus across the picture, make an adjustment on one screw, snap a picture, compare the pictures to see how that one screw's adjustment effected the focus, and so on and so on, until you can get the focus uniform across the picture. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck with it though.

      Hi Telmo. Checking the cables and connectors is a good place to start. The most common reason I have found after reassembling the camera and then finding that something isn't working properly, was due to a flat ribbon cable or connector not making a good connection. Let me know what you find after checking them. -Bob

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lester. When that happens, it is almost always because a flat ribbon cable is not properly seated in it's connector. Double check the ribbons and connectors and make sure that all locking tab bars are pushed down on the connectors that have them. Hopefully that's all that it is.

    • @lesterlapuz

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is odd because the two problem areas are unrelated to each other, except that they both connect the mother board. It's possible that something happened to the mother board, and it may have been damaged. It still acts like it may be a connection problem though, or possibly that one of the flat ribbon cables were torn. The next thing to check then is for any tears in any of the flat ribbon cables. One cable in particular that I have had tear on me before, is this cable found here: th-cam.com/video/_-gQbCM7QMw/w-d-xo.html It didn't cause the problems that you are having though, but it's still worth checking.

    Good evening! I'm from Brazil.
    In the 7:38 minute I saw that you made a sensor adjustment, is this always necessary? what can it cause if you don't?

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Fernanda. It's important to put the screws back in the same position after re-installing them so that the sensor lays completely flat in regards to the lens. If you have never removed the sensor before, then the screws should still be in the correct positions from the factory, and that's why you mark them. If a sensor is not laying flat, what will happen is that one or more sides of the images that you take will be out of focus.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Laura. Had you disassembled and worked on the 60D prior to the indicator flashing an empty battery icon? If so, then one of the flat ribbon cables are in backwards. If that's not the case and it hadn't been disassembled, then I would guess that the power board is bad. That is the board that is shown at time stamp 9:48. -Bob

    Hi, I followed the video and replaced the Shutter assembly as I was getting Err 20 constantly; it works great now :)
    However, I have another problem now. When I go into video mode and shoot some footage it comes out completely silent; I transferred the videos on PC and they are completely silent there too.
    Also there little speaker seems to be completely silent as well; playback audio or the autofocus ready *beep* or other SFX on the camera. I think I have connected all the cables exactly as shown in the video and didn't miss anything. Video I/O recording was working perfectly before :( Any tips anyone?

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Since both the speaker and the microphone are effected, then you should check two different cables that go to the multimedia circuit board that controls them. The multimedia board is the board that has the connectors for both the speaker and for the microphone. The first cable to check connects to the bottom of the main board and can be seen here; th-cam.com/video/7gJr4ANik-g/w-d-xo.html . The second cable connects on the top of the main board and can be seen here; th-cam.com/video/7gJr4ANik-g/w-d-xo.html. The second cable also connects at it's other end to the bottom of the small multimedia circuit board. If checking/re-seating the first two connectors doesn't help, then you may need to remove the multimedia board. There will be four screws for that board. Then double check the connector for the other end of the second cable and make sure it is also seated correctly. If it still isn't working after checking all of those connectors, then you may have a torn cable or broken wire.
