The hobby was on tilt when those cards where bought. 6 Championships baked into every above average young player. Ive been in the hobby since the late 80s. I tried to warn people. When everything is special nothing is special. Got banned from a few places for trying to be a voice of reason. And i dont think the dip is over. Maybe not even close. Be carful guys. Only buy the players that mean something to you so when this happens at least you have that.

Unproven players shouldn’t ever be worth those prices, it should be the greats who accomplished championships and awards. Either way you have to collect what you enjoy and there’s no need to break the bank chasing rare cards. Try to chase rare cards within your budget and don’t let influencers make you do anything you’ll regret.

Unproven players shouldn’t be worth those prices, but demand and FOMO pushes those prices. Not everyone collects vintage and not everyone collects retired modern players so it keeps those prices somewhat stable. Think about the demand for Victor Wembanyama? The guy has not played an NBA game but his cards will be the most sought out next year in the hobby.
@@chrisolivo6591 Yea the hype makes it worse, I would like to have a few mid end cards of his but I’m not breaking the bank for any of it since he’s still unproven. We need to see him play in the league or during the summer league first to predict how he will pan out.
Vintage is where its at fellas. Once those old cards are gone thats it. The modern stuff is all about the newest hotness. Collect the GOATS and players you like. Don't get caught up in the FOMO

@@GRADEDCARDINVESTOR that’s why I say probably… These big end cards could be sold for any number of reasons . Remember there are no rules about wash trading in the Sportscard industry. Buy a card for big money sell for a loss to write off and then buy it back. Again no rules exist against that right now. Also these sales don’t give an accurate representation of the actual Sportscard market they are albatrosses that most people can’t buy

It should be rule number 1 for "investors" who only want to flip as well. Not "buy" what you like, but "sell what others like". Before you buy a rookie card of player who's been in the league for 3 years for 6 figures...ask yourself who is such a fan of this guy that they would spend Ferrari money to own his card. The loss on on the cards sold on PWCC are even greater than that since the sellers get the final hammer price + small portion of the 20% buyer premium they charge. So that is the total the buyer paid, the seller actually receives even less.

I think buying big on cards is now over. Will just stick to buying cheap cards from now on. I also have about 1000 cards that need grading. Not paying $16000 plus upcharges though. The fees are ridiculous for the current market.
I agree 100% and I honestly think the grading companies increasing their prices so high had a huge part in killing the market. Once they get someone in charge that knows what they're doing then we can see a improvement. Until then, I'm not submitting anything and only buying dirt cheap cards (vintage). There's so many cards that I could've submitted six months ago which are worth now $50 each or less etc. Just gradually taking the worthless cards out of the pile to submit for grading. What's happened to the 15 free grading vouchers when you sign up for membership? It's all a money grab. I think PSA need to reappoint Joe Orlando.
I just buy jordan raw cards and put them in magnetics and those me more to me because hes my favorite sports athlete of all time and most of his cards are a few bucks but im happy to be in this hobby in some sort of way to scratch my itch

All rc auto's should be worth around 4 grand max.
I could get a 68 nolan ryan in a 7, 54 hank aaron rookie T206 ty cobb green portrait in a 1.5 for that kind of money so many cards that are iconic and people burn their money on these basketball RPA's and they are NEVER worth the hype
I knew that folks in tte trading card hobby were driving up the card prices to ridiculous levels in 2021 and 2022.
It’s funny how everyone has been recommending the high end stuff for investment and screaming from the roof tops to stay away from low/mid end. Excluding the modern base graded rookies, the high end stuff has been performing the worst, while some low/mid end stuff is actually up with this crash 😂😂😅
Interesting to see the value losses, but you also have to place it in the context of massive boom in cards, covid- investing, boom in crypto and the stock market, real estate market and how all those markets have dropped.
When people sell stocks that were $500 now worth $50, we don't automatically assume there is something fishy going on.
The speculation of why people are selling is interesting to a point but until you find some people who sold big cards and interview them, it doesn't help asking the question so much. All markets dropped and people need liquidity.

They're going down because they're worth next to nothin compared to those high prices of the last few years. Its not the stock market that will make you rich over time. Most cards are just junk and will be sold it losses.

They're not investments and reality is setting in for these people. Cards go up really high during hype periods that are often short lived. They then fall a cliff like its the end of the world. This is why its foolish to put a lot of money into them. Its called a hobby for a reason. Its meant to collect and have fun. People tried making it something that its not and are losing their ass. Very predictable. Anyone thats been in the hobby for years knew this was coming. Most cards will keep going down for years watch.
think of card sales like a dealer who cuts his stuff, only thd first sale scores cash, then every sale after will fetch less and less cash

I'd spend 4k on that card not only because its just a 9, but also because there is wayyyyyyyyyy too many Luka RCs overall and the kid might never win a championship because of not only his attitude but also the way he plays doesnt go well with most other players which is why a lot of people eventually leave him hanging in Dallas.

My rule of thumb is only buy cards that you've always wanted and if you're looking to invest then buy cards that you can at least get your money back on if you need to liquidate for cash. ⚾️ Mantle, Mays and Aaron 🏈 Brady, Manning and Montana, 🏀 Jordan, Kobe and LeBron are a few to consider. You also have Yogi Berra, Johnny Unitas, Stan Musial, Brett Favre, Wilt Chamberlain, the list goes on and on.

This type of thing happens a lot more with the parallels. I try to stay away from them unless they're cheap. I stick with base. Everyone scoffs at base cards but if you get one for $5 you'll get a better return on them once they are proven players. If they don't prove themselves then you're out $5 bucks not hundreds or thousands of dollars.

You are directly saying don't over pay and now you are telling people how to buy cards. There are so many types of collectors from the millionaires to the ones that just started that buy $1 cards. These videos don't apply to both but you are implementing to both collectors. How can you tell people to not overpay on these big cards. It only really applies to the high end collectors and millionaires that can afford to buy these type of cards. Plus it's worth what someone is willing to pay and at that time it was worth that much.
How about to the collectors that just started and one day wants to own a Luka NT or a Trae NT. Telling them to not pay a certain amount on its lowest point of the Hobby and when it starts going back up and that Luka goes back up to $50k and Trae goes back up to $10k but then you said don't over pay and showing them $39k for the luka and $5k for the Trae and now you got their mind stuck on the bottom number and lowest point, what do you think will go thru their head.
The Hobby has changed dramatically from now being an investment, business, gambling as well as just being a collector. It's all for the positive. We now how to understand wins and losses more than ever. That's what makes the hobby fun and interesting. The risk of it all. People now making a living of cards more than ever before.. If we don't adjust to the hobby it will leave you behind! Also without the hobby being where it is now. NOBODY will be watching your videos or anybody's content because there is nothing to talk about and nobody will care... Let's just keep it positive because all the Negatives are already out there...

Obviously card prices are continuing to drop, and will until the card market corrects itself. But with all these massive losses on some BIG cards, my only question is why are these people choosing to sale at a time like now? We all know now is not the time to sell. So why are these collectors continuing to sale, while taking these massive losses? I'm guessing there's more than meets the eye.... a lot of money laundering was taking place, maybe...
Until a thorough investigation occurs, the reason behind the significant losses in card sales will remain a mystery. My goal here is to shed some light on all this hanky panky going on and to save guys from taking loans and running up credit cards in an attempt to "get rich" from "investing" in sports cards.
