I realize you posted this 3 years ago - did you ever move forward having them graded? If so, did you use PSA? Man, I have so many - but narrowed down to bulk 20. But I’m still so hesitant to take that next step. I have some 86 Fleer NBA that I know are ‘potentially’ very valuable - but what will they charge me to get it back?? I think they should go off the value of the cards were at the time they sign for the package. I've been waiting 7 months for cards now that if 10s were selling around $100, now they are selling for $500 or more. Not really fair to upcharge for a momentarily spike in the market.

One of my favorite hobbies is finding REALLY nice PSA9's and doing BGS crossover reviews with a 9.5 min. Since PSA has no 9.5, some of their 9's are way better than an average 9 and are at least BGS9.5 worthy. If the card doesn't meet min grade they only charge you $20. If it crosses, you only pay the service fee with no up charge. To me this is a GREAT deal and very fair. With PSA you not only pay the full service fee regardless of outcome, but you're also upcharged on the new value too. A BGS9.5 with great sub grades is basically a PSA10 in value. So you instantly make 2-4x your money. Plus $20 is low risk if it doesn't cross.
Ryan Deffley can I cross my psa 9 over to bgs without cracking the case, and tell them that if it isn’t a bgs 9.5, then just return it in the psa slab?
@@264rubymi - Well here is the thing. There is a lot of politics between the grading companies. I'd say 95% of the time if you send in a PSA slab to BGS, it is an automatic reject. I can personally vouch for this. When I've tried to send in 9's in slab, they have it processed, "reviewed", and shipped back to me within 1-2 days. The ONLY true way to get a fair unbiased review is by cracking the card out and submitting it raw.
Two questions. 1. When determining max value, do you base that on whether it will grade at a psa 10 or not? So if i think its a 10 but it comes back a 9, will psa reduce the submission fee? 2. The service level pricing isnt just because of more insurance as you state. It doesn't cost anywhere close to $2000 to insure a $25000 card. The service level pricing is a way to generate more revenue for PSA

Ever consider making a video on how to properly crack a case by a lesser grading company? Also, how often have you bought graded cards from other companies only to ship them off to PSA to get that value bump? To crack or just have them re-slabbed? $50 versus $12 (if doing bulk, which I know you do obvs). I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions. You can get graded 10 Jordans for about the same price as raw with some cards. I like the idea that ANY grading company gave it a 10 as it lessens the gamble slightly when buying from eBay. Some of those Jordans will jump to $200+ for a PSA 10 and still have good profit even if they come back at a 9. I'm testing the theory now and just got a handful of WCG 10's that look real nice condition. I am going to crack them as opposed to re-slabbing. The $50 price tag would kill the profit potential unless they came back a 10. Seems kind of no brainer but I am not the sharpest tool and am jumping on the train kind of late. I assume any edge I have found has been explored by someone with longer standing and a better knowledge base for sports cards. But I haven't seen anyone talking about this in depth as a strategy.
Use tin snips and flathead or similar. It is very easy but go slow. Snip the corners until you can wedge something flat and go around the edges. There are videos out there. If I can, I will post one someday. I do it all the time with USA and mint grading shite from 15 years ago
Whatsup bro love the channel. I was just wondering if you thought a card would get a 9 so you put the declared value as a 9 would get, would that persuade the grader to give a 9 when it could of possibly gotten a 10?
What happens if the opposite occurs, that you believe it is an expensive card and coming in at a 10 and select the category best fitting for that price range, but then they grade it lower, thus the value is lower. Do they adjust that fee then too? Great video, thanx!
Love watching the vid's my man! I just submitted 6 cards, one being a Montana RC and put $100 value ... yikes! ... hey, what screen capture are you using, love that picture in picture and want to do it on my videos
The only issue I have is with removal of economy at $20 for value through $499, if they deem your card word $350, I heard they are charging you the full $50 vs the $20. That is the only negative I see to their current pricing model.
I member chasing those beam teams and golds from 92 topps bball 🔥I also had about 50+ Shaq mcds rookies and mjs ect the workers would toss me extra packs cuz I'd bug them to when i ate at one down road from my house😂
I get it but it’s kinda bs. If the value drops will they refund you? It is still taking months at Regular ($50/card) and some stuff that was on fire a few months back is cooling a little.
@@GRADEDCARDINVESTOR Part of that fee is for insurance and the other is for speed. You waited 9 months to get that sub back so I certainly think its reasonable for them to come back and charge you for increased shipping costs but to charge the full amount seems wrong. Either way, I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir. Love the channel. Keep it up.
Yes suspended temporarily and will return at some point in January (per someone's comment below who said that they spoke with someone at PSA about this). I personally think it's because of the influx of cards that are coming in at that price range that they can't handle the amount of those orders so they removed it to have folks pay more if they really want them or wait until the economy option returns.
If this is strictly for insurance to send it back to me, why wouldn't i just buy a plane ticket and come to them? Is that an option? If it is id do it every time.
I'm about to get some cards graded and live in OC about 10 miles from PSA. They won't let me submit the cards in person, but there are card shops around here that they do allow in-person submissions and in-person pickups - I'm planning to submit my cards through them. So in my case there is no insurance needed. I highly doubt there will be any reduction in fees because of this...
@@ksteege120 That seems shady as heck. They are providing me with a service, and i am paying them for that service. Nothing more. How can they charge you an extra $3000 just because the card happens to be worth money? They gave you the same service regardless. I even heard that if you do pay the extra money up front and the card grades less than you thought that they wont even refund you. This all seems very wrong.
At what stage does PSA contact you about the upcharge fee when declared value is much higher than what you originally put on submission? Just right after stage 4 (i.e., grading and authentication stages)?
Having been living under a rock for the last year, I just discovered just how nuts basketball cards have been going, and I recently went through my basketball cards that have been in a storage cabinet for the last 20 years and pulled the top 100 to be graded. About half of them are Fleer 86-89, with the key being an 86 Jordan. I'm thinking it's a PSA 7 with an outside chance of an 8. The declared value is killing me - under $9999 value and PSA charges $500, over $10000 and they double the price to $1000 grading fee. Can I get away with declaring it to be worth $9999 and only (ha, "only") pay $500 to get it graded? I also have quite a few other cards in the $300-$600 range - can I declare those as $199 and get the "Value Vintage" pricing?
Hey How'd did it go since you posted this comment? dude i'm planning to send mines in and i read how people are saying it feels like they are holding their cards hostage, so stressfull.
@@manchuk1d Actually, I had them all just about ready to send to PSA and that was when PSA halted submissions, and then more than doubled their prices. So I've still got them sitting there. I've had a few distractions over this last year, so I hope to get back to them soon
@@ksteege120 Can you help me with this, so i'm in Canada and when entering the declared value do i put it in CAD or USD? i watched videos and some people they just put the max declare value say the picked the one with the max $199 they put 199 for all.... others just put the price of how much it is selling raw on ebay. Last question.... say i submit a card worth $50 and months later when it is done grading that card is now worth $500 do they ask me to pay them $500 bucks to get my card back? sigh this is stressful lol.
@@manchuk1d From what I've read & seen prices are in USD, and you put the lowest value you think it might grade for. If it grades much higher and the value increases significantly, they will bill you for the higher value. So it's kinda good news if they bill you for more, because then you know your card got a very high grade.
What I would say is that if you don't need the card back quickly, use the least expensive option (bulk if you have Silver subscription and enough cards to send at the same time). Do you know what is the turnaround time for bulk at the moment? I guess that it must be close to a year.
Another Great Video Hoping for more Ive been picking up some 🔥 lately need to Submit Ive also let go some things raw i shouldve got graded 1st oh well some of that money i bought more cards and a 600 lawn mower and other things. essentially using cards as cash themselves.
How about a 1/1 card? I have 4 with NO IDEA what they may go for. I know what I paid for them on E-Bay but this was a year ago. Do I keep evidence of what I paid to prove to them the value? Plus, they are slabbed from the manufacturer. Should I still submit them?
Appreciate the video - for anyone, have a question: Going to send 50 modern cards shortly for bulk value grading. A few are over the $199 declared value ... say the order takes 5 months. As of now, I know I’ll be up charged $50 potentially for the cards valued higher, but that’s just because economy is down right? So say it is back by the time the cards go through 5 months from now - the upcharge would just be $20 right? Thinking of just sending those higher values cards now and banking on being upcharged $20 instead of $50 assuming economy returns by then ...
Great video man! This was great! Question: Is there a way to pickup our order from PSA and avoid the insurance payment? Cause if its $10-$20 per card, plus shipping, and to insure the card on the way back, it makes me think about submitting cause it cuts into profit margins.
If u drop ur cards off at their shop and pick them up would they still charge by the declared value thing for insurance purposes if it gets lost or damaged in the mail. I bet they dont like drop offs.
Gee, I wonder if they refund money if your cards are at PSA for months and months and they decrease in value and should be in a lower bracket? I'm a PSA fanboy but still think it's messed up how they can do this. They should take the possible market values in all grades when they log the order in and once graded go back and see what the value would have been. Or at least do it when the cards should have been graded and not on the delayed time. Love the vids man
Really helpful! Is there a way to not get the grades before? Cause I wanna submit but don’t wanna know grades before hand. Thx keep up the great content
I did the silver membership just in case it sells out still a good deal. I was wondering why psa does not endorse toploaders more. I think more cards get damaged from CS1 from user error. If i team bag each top loader i know you mentioned they will still grade them .
I agree, it's very easy to damage a card in a CS1 if you're not used to the rough edges or not using a penny sleeve. I think the top loader and team bag is the way to go! I've done that with the thick patch cards and PSA hasn't said anything to me.
I bought a 1988 fleer John Stockton PSA 9 OC for 48.00 including taxes and shipping. The card is off centered . Do you think that is a bad deal @PSA Collector?
I got a question man, what if the cards are so new and theres no declared max value yet on PSA site but say the first PSA 10s are selling on eBay for say 1000$ and I wanna send mine in for grading but the max value on PSA is still not declared yet so can I send it for 199$ max value even tho it's selling on eBay for 1000$ but on PSA since it's so new they still don't have a max value ?
Love the vids man really helpful for a first timer like my self 🔥 just a question if im sending from aus do I get insurance on my cards at the post office before i send over to CA ?
It depends on the cards you're submitting and how much insurance costs. In general, it's best to go ahead and get insurance if you're shipping from overseas.
The worst case is that PSA is going to get tired of people submitting cards well over declared value as bulk and will just increase the prices, which is exactly what they did.
It's like going to a steakhouse, ordering the filet mignon for a hundred dollars, at the end of the meal, you get the bill for an additional $400! What's this!? Oh we made the steak special for you. But the cook, he cooked the steak on the same fire as all the others? Yes. Point is they have graded the card, that's what the initial charge is for. I think airfare and a hotel would be cheaper than paying all that insurance.
I thought that the max declared value was for insurance purposes on PSA's end. So if they mishandle card X, you have declared its value at X dollars, should it get dinged or lost. So you're saying that they take 9 months to grade cards that are supposedly 45 biz days. But they upcharge you after they have graded it? That seems like a really messed up way of doing things. I sent in cards, such as Lamar Prizm RC's that were going for 3K as PSA 10's during the summer. Well now they have been cut in half. So is my grade or even price going to be a reflection of the market drop? I don't even know if i'm making sense anymore.
Hey so I've read your blog post about PSA grading scale for pokemon cards but I was wondering if you could do a video of you showing which cards got what grades and why. Outside of a perfect 9 or 10, I can't seem to guage what would get a 6-8 or less for that matter.

I was just wondering if you thought a card would get a 9 so you put the declared value as a 9 would get, would that persuade the grader to give a 9 when it could of possibly gotten a 10?
thanks for the information dude got some really old baseball cards and base set pokemon cards
What happens if the opposite occurs, that you believe it is an expensive card and coming in at a 10 and select the category best fitting for that price range, but then they grade it lower, thus the value is lower. Do they adjust that fee then too? Great video, thanx!
great vid thank you for the info
No problem 👍
Love watching the vid's my man! I just submitted 6 cards, one being a Montana RC and put $100 value ... yikes! ... hey, what screen capture are you using, love that picture in picture and want to do it on my videos
Thank you for the video!
My pleasure!
Is it free to use the PSA Pop report?
Yes, I have been using it right now to experiment with understanding my cards value.
Hot damn this was SO helpful. Thank you!
Answered my questions
Glad I helped!
I get it but it’s kinda bs. If the value drops will they refund you? It is still taking months at Regular ($50/card) and some stuff that was on fire a few months back is cooling a little.
good point.. some cards are dropping like crazy atm.. its a one way street on this one .. PSA will never refund
No, they won't refund you. They'll only charge you if there are consistent sales not just a couple.
Keep it up.
you live in TN, thats cool me too
Why is the value or economy option no longer available right now on PSA's website. Is it suspended temporarily?
Yes suspended temporarily and will return at some point in January (per someone's comment below who said that they spoke with someone at PSA about this). I personally think it's because of the influx of cards that are coming in at that price range that they can't handle the amount of those orders so they removed it to have folks pay more if they really want them or wait until the economy option returns.
@@brandonsousa7090 Got It. Thanks for feedback!!
How do you estimate a card which only has value as a 10. For example 1986 fleer basketball Jeff Malone.
@@ksteege120 but they dont bill you some CRAZY amount right?
What I would say is that if you don't need the card back quickly, use the least expensive option (bulk if you have Silver subscription and enough cards to send at the same time). Do you know what is the turnaround time for bulk at the moment? I guess that it must be close to a year.
Another Great Video
Hoping for more
Ive been picking up some 🔥 lately need to Submit Ive also let go some things raw i shouldve got graded 1st oh well some of that money i bought more cards and a 600 lawn mower and other things. essentially using cards as cash themselves.
Asking Question, if you have graded cards PSA even though you are not selling them you must report them on your 1099 tax form
I'm not sure about that. Try contacting PSA and see what they say.
Yeah a round trip plane ticket would be cheaper it’s all a sham clearly psa is raping ppl
So they charge insurance fees on top of the grading fees? How the fuck is anyone supposed to make money doing this?
If u drop ur cards off at their shop and pick them up would they still charge by the declared value thing for insurance purposes if it gets lost or damaged in the mail. I bet they dont like drop offs.
What happens if you don't want the card graded because of the $50 fee?
PSA will say ok and send you someone's ungraded card and give them yours. SORRY
What are they charging you $8 for??? I didn't see any options to grade in bulk for $8?
Is that charge an additonal charge just for insurance?
very helpful. Thank u
You're welcome!
What if I have 20 cards by not all from the same era and some I want graded and some I want graded & Authenticated ???
I bought a 1988 fleer John Stockton PSA 9 OC for 48.00 including taxes and shipping. The card is off centered . Do you think that is a bad deal @PSA Collector?
I got a question man, what if the cards are so new and theres no declared max value yet on PSA site but say the first PSA 10s are selling on eBay for say 1000$ and I wanna send mine in for grading but the max value on PSA is still not declared yet so can I send it for 199$ max value even tho it's selling on eBay for 1000$ but on PSA since it's so new they still don't have a max value ?
Interesting content. Thumbs up.
Thanks for the visit
Love the vids man really helpful for a first timer like my self 🔥 just a question if im sending from aus do I get insurance on my cards at the post office before i send over to CA ?
It depends on the cards you're submitting and how much insurance costs. In general, it's best to go ahead and get insurance if you're shipping from overseas.
Awesome thanks man nothing to crazy but may be a good idea just to be safe thaks so much legend 🔥🔥
Why are there currently no "value" services appearing? The lowest I see is the regualr/$50 option.
You have to sign up to be a PSA member. I talk about that later on in the video
what do i do if the card isnt available in the apr collumm
Hi, what if the value I submitted is higher than PSA graded, do we get charge in lower rate?
The worst case is that PSA is going to get tired of people submitting cards well over declared value as bulk and will just increase the prices, which is exactly what they did.
Hey, do you sell cards to Canada?
It's like going to a steakhouse, ordering the filet mignon for a hundred dollars, at the end of the meal, you get the bill for an additional $400! What's this!? Oh we made the steak special for you. But the cook, he cooked the steak on the same fire as all the others? Yes.
Point is they have graded the card, that's what the initial charge is for. I think airfare and a hotel would be cheaper than paying all that insurance.
How do you find a value on a 1/1 card?? I have a 1/1 gold label trea turner rookie but dont know what it would be worth
Looking to do my first submission and was curious if payment is when submitting or after grading is complete. Thank you
PSA will charge you once they have completed grading your cards.
Hey so I've read your blog post about PSA grading scale for pokemon cards but I was wondering if you could do a video of you showing which cards got what grades and why. Outside of a perfect 9 or 10, I can't seem to guage what would get a 6-8 or less for that matter.
I'm going to work on a video for grading Pokemon cards here shortly. Stay posted!
