They originally had 12 members and now they have 5 active members :( (plus more coming back soon!). They're from SM Entertainment (same company as Red Velvet), so you should expect some vocals and visuals :) Here's some stuff about the members and their talents... Chen Positions: Main vocalist Currently taking a break due to the birth of his baby :) (he got a lot of hate for it, I can't understand why). You'll see him doing a lot of the high notes, and he's literally one of the best vocalists in kpop. Forms one member of the legendary main vocal trio of EXO. Baekhyun Positions: Main vocalist Another member of the main vocal trio, and again one of the best vocalists in kpop. He just released his solo album, and he's also part of the SM supergroup SuperM, along with one other EXO member. D.O Positions: Main vocalist The final member of the main vocal trio, and you guessed it, among one of the best vocalists in kpop. He's currently in the military :( but he'll be back soon! Xiumin Positions: Lead vocalist, lead dancer, rapper The oldest member of EXO, yet he looks and acts like the youngest :) literally has some of the best eyes in kpop, and a very talented singer too. Currently in the military, but he'll be back at the end of the year. Suho Positions: Lead vocalist, leader Suho is the leader of EXO, and just went to the military last month after his solo album. He's another example of EXO's vocal prowess, he's good enough to be a main vocalist anywhere else, its just he happens to be in the same group as a certain trio :) Kai Positions: Main dancer, lead rapper, vocalist, visual Literally one of the best dancers in kpop, and a decent rapper and singer too. He's also in SuperM too along with Baekyun. As for Kai's visuals, I'll let you see for yourself... He's also secretly among the best rappers, even though most people don't give credit for EXO's rap. Sehun Positions: Lead rapper, lead dancer, visual, maknae Sehun is also an amazing dancer, and could easily be a main dancer somewhere else. He's also a very decent rapper, which most people don't give him credit for. Not to mention his visuals... Former members: Kris, Tao, Luhan The three former Chinese members who left in 2014. SM was notorious for treating their Chinese members worse in the past, which led to these three filing lawsuits and leaving the group. Before they left, EXO was divided into two subunits, EXO-M promoting in China and EXO-K promoting in Korea. However, after those 3 left, the subunits disappeared, leaving Lay as the only Chinese member left.

Finally exo! My 2nd ult group after twice!! Never thought i would be stanning a boy group and thought it was only for fangirls but boy i was wrong. Ive mentioned sometime ago that you would love exo because they have a lot of rnb tones (not so much on this one though) Just a heads up. Theyre a 9 member group, originally 12. One is inactive, focused on his career in china and 3 are enlisted in the military currently. Exo has a lore--that they are aliens with superpowers sent to earth. And their MVs are about that reavealing tiny bits of information about them. So their MV might not make sense at first. Their 3 main vocals and 2 main dancers are the best in kpop. While the rest of the group are insanely talented like wtf will make you question your existense lmao.

Completing the main dancer line, Lay is also one of the best dancers in kpop. He's also multitalented, he can sing and rap, he writes and produces so many songs, and he can play multiple instruments. He's also the only Chinese member left. Unfortunately, due to some political tensions between China and Korea (which I'm not even fully sure about), Lay hasn't promoted with EXO since 2017, he's been restricted to doing solo stuff in China. Chanyeol

Chanyeol is literally a giraffe, he's so tall. He's also secretly among the best rappers, even though most people don't give credit for EXO's rap. He's also multitalented, he can play like a billion instruments and has written so many songs, on top of being a very good singer.

The three former Chinese members who left in 2014. SM was notorious for treating their Chinese members worse in the past, which led to these three filing lawsuits and leaving the group. Before they left, EXO was divided into two subunits, EXO-M promoting in China and EXO-K promoting in Korea. However, after those 3 left, the subunits disappeared, leaving Lay as the only Chinese member left.

Exo debut with 12 members in to subunits EXO-K that promote in Korea and EXO-M that promote in China. Debut song is MAMA but they have pre debut songs like HISTORY korean and chinese version so as Debut song has korean and chines version, and also duo song pre debut video What is love. In 2014 Kris Wu who was a Leader of subunit group EXO-M leave the company bacause of bad treatment because SM was treating different (in bad way) Chinese part of the group following the same year another Chinese member have leave the company Luhan and in 2015 Tao also Chinese member of the group have leave because of the same reasons. Lay who is the only Chinese member who is in group but inactive he has his solo career.

In the presentation, he explained his strategy of separating it into two subgroups, M1 and M2, which would promote the same songs in South Korea and China, in Korean and Mandarin. He planned to debut it in May 2011, but the premiere was postponed. News about the group surfaced in October 2011 when the producer briefly discussed his concept plans for the group in an interview with The Chosun Ilbo.
In December, it made its name official as EXO - taken from exoplanet, a term that refers to planets outside the Solar System - with the name EXO-K for the South Korean subgroup and EXO-M for the Chinese subgroup. The twelve members of the original line-up were introduced individually through twenty-three different teasers released from December 2011 to February 2012. Kai, Luhan, Tao, and Chen were the first four members to be introduced, making their public appearance at the SBS Gayo Daejun event on December 29, 2011.
2012: Pre-releases and Mama
On January 30, 2012, the subgroups released "What Is Love", their first promotional singles.On March 9, the promotional single "History" was released. The group's debut concert was held at the Seoul Olympic Stadium on March 31, one hundred days after the launch of its first teaser on December 21, 2011. About three thousand people out of eight thousand candidates were selected to participate in the showcase. A second concert was held in the grand hall of the University of Business and International Economics in Beijing on April 1 ..
The official debut of the subgroups took place on April 8 with the release of the single "MAMA" from the eponymous EP. EXO-K performed its debut performance in Korea, performing on the musical program Inkigayo, while EXO-M performed it in China, performing at the twelfth edition of the Yinyue Fengyun Bang Awards. The day after its release, the Mandarin version of the single reached the top position on several Chinese websites and music charts. His video clip reached number one on Chinese streaming sites, and the Korean version reached number seven on the TH-cam Global Parade. The Korean subgroup's EP ranked first in the Gaon Album Parade and eighth in the Billboard World Album Parade, while the Chinese subgroup's version reached the fourth and twelfth, respectively.
In late April, EXO-M performed as a guest artist at the concert held in Jakarta, Indonesia on the Super Show 4 tour of his companion from the company Super Junior. In November, EXO received the "Best New Asian Group" award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. The Korean subgroup was nominated for three awards at the 27th Golden Disc Awards, receiving the "Newbie of the Year Award", while the Chinese subgroup was awarded "Most Popular Group" at the Top Chinese Music Awards.
2014: Overdose, Kris and Luhan lawsuits and first tour
The group's third extended play, entitled Overdose, was released on May 7, 2014. Its release was scheduled for April 21, however, due to the ferry accident, it was postponed. The subgroups split up again to spread the word, doing it in South Korea and China simultaneously. It became the most pre-ordered EP in history, reaching over 660,000 pre-order orders. The Korean version reached the second position on the Billboard World Albums Chart, also ranking in the 129th position on the Billboard 200. Overdose was the best-selling album of 2014 in South Korea, being the first extended play to top the annual charts and to be named Album of the Year at the Mnet Asian Music Awards.
On May 14, 2014, S.M. Entertainment confirmed that EXO-M leader Kris had filed a lawsuit to end his contract, declaring human rights violations as the main reason. The group's first tour, The Lost Planet Tour, began on May 23 at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena. Concert tickets sold out in 1.47 seconds, breaking the fastest-selling concert record by a Korean artist. On October 10, EXO-M member Luhan filed a lawsuit to cancel his contract, due to health problems and allegedly being treated differently from Korean members. After the proceedings, it was announced that EXO would continue as a group of ten members.
On December 22, he released his first live album, Exology Chapter 1: The Lost Planet.The album debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Parade and accumulated over seventy thousand copies sold by the end of the month. Despite not actively promoting himself in Japan, he was the highest-selling K-pop artist in the country in 2014.
2015: Exodus, Tao process, Japanese debut and Sing for You

EXO's second tour, The EXO'luXion, was announced in January 2015. Five concerts were held at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul from March 7. Over one million two hundred thousand fans tried to buy tickets online.
On March 30, his second studio album, EXODUS, was released in Korean and Mandarin. Over five hundred thousand pre-order orders were accumulated in just 24 hours, setting a new record. The title track "Call Me Baby" was released three days before the album due to leaked versions. His music videos were released four days later, with the Korean version being the most viewed music video in the first half of 2015. "Call Me Baby" was very successful, being the second most awarded song on South Korean music programs. The Korean version of the album also broke records after being ranked number one on the Gaon Album Chart for four consecutive weeks. Eventually, EXODUS accumulated over a million copies sold, being the group's second album to do so after XOXO. He also brought the group the third consecutive nomination for "Album of the Year" at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, Seoul Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards and Melon Music Awards. In May, he broke the Billboard 200 record as the highest-ranking Korean artist, ranking ninety-fifth. It also reached ninety-eight on the Canadian Hot 100 Canadian chart, being the first K-pop group to qualify there.
From early April to the end of May, EXO starred in his own webdrama, titled EXO Next Door. It was the second most viewed webdrama of 2015. The success led CJ E&M to re-edit it in a film version, which was sold at the sixty-eighth edition of the Festival de Cannes. On April 22, Tao's father published a letter through Weibo expressing his feelings and desire for his son to leave the group and return to China; due to the company's lack of support in relation to his individual career and health issues. Within hours of posting, S.M. Entertainment released an official statement saying that they would be "seeking a solution towards development" by negotiating with Tao and his father.
On June 3, a revamped version of EXODUS, entitled Love Me Right, was released. This version contains the original EXODUS tracks and four new songs, including the title track "Love Me Right". Due to Tao's inactivity, the group released it to only nine members. On October 10, EXO became the first artist to perform at a Dome concert in Korea with EXO - Love Concert in Dome. Tickets for the event went on sale on September 21, and the high demand caused the server to crash for more than fifty minutes and all tickets were exhausted. About twenty-two thousand fans filled the Gocheok Sky Dome for the event.
After signing with Avex Trax, the group made their Japanese debut on November 4, 2015. Their first release in Japan was the single CD "Love Me Right ～ romantic universe ～", composed of the Japanese version of "Love Me Right" and a new song, "Drop That". It debuted at number one on the Oricon chart; totaling more than 147,000 units sold and setting a record as the debut Japanese single by a best-selling South Korean artist. As part of his The EXO'luXion tour, he performed for more than 145,000 fans at the Tokyo Dome from November 6-8, breaking the record for the least amount of time since debuting to perform on-site. On November 9, he released the single "Lightsaber" as part of a collaboration between S.M. Entertainment and Walt Disney to promote the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens before its release in South Korea.
On December 10, he released his second special winter EP, Sing for You, along with two title tracks, "Sing for You" and "Unfair". The EP broke the record for highest sales in the first week of a Korean artist, selling more than 267,000 copies in its first week, which was surpassed in the successive year with the release of the group's third studio album, EX'ACT. S.M. Entertainment confirmed that part of Sing for You's profits would be donated to UNICEF's "Smile for You" campaign to support music education for children in Asia.
2016: North American Tour, Ex'Act, Coming Over and For Life
In February 2016, EXO held concerts on The EXO'luXion tour in five North American cities: Dallas, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Chicago and New Jersey. In the same month, he was ranked by Forbes Korea as the most influential celebrity in Korea. In March, he ended his tour performing three times in Seoul to over 42,000 people. It totaled more than 740,000 tickets sold for 44 concerts in 12 countries.
Their third studio album, EX'ACT, was released by S.M. Entertainment on June 9. The Korean and Mandarin versions debuted, respectively, in the top two positions of the Gaon Album Parade, while the combined version debuted in the second position of the Billboard World Album Parade. Over six hundred and sixty thousand pre-order orders were placed, also having set a record by selling just over half a million copies in its first week of sales. EX'ACT was the best-selling album in South Korea in 2016, being the group's third album to total over one million units sold. He was also awarded the Golden Disc Awards' Daesang Disco and the Mnet Asian Music Awards and Seoul Music Awards Grand Prix, setting a record as the first artist to win them for four consecutive years.
EX'ACT consists of two singles with different musical styles, "Lucky One" and "Monster", available together with the album's release. "Monster" was the group's first song to reach number one on the Billboard World Digital Music Chart, while "Lucky One" reached number three.

- 3 of the Chinese members left the group years ago (Kris, Luhan, Tao)
- 1 Chinese member (Lay) is still technically a member of the group but has been inactive for a while due to political tension between Korea and China. Although the situation has probably softened up a bit since then I can’t say that it’s completely blown over yet. Lay is doing good though promoting on his solo work in China for the meantime.
- 3 members (Xiumin, D.O., and Suho who’s the leader) are currently doing military service which is mandatory for Korean men. This was the last music video Suho did before enlisting, so that’s why you still see 6 members in this MV!

In early June 2019, it was confirmed that Sehun and Chanyeol will debut as members of EXO's second official subunit. On June 28, the unit's name was announced as EXO-SC (short for SeChan), taken from the first letter of its members' names. On the same day, it was announced that the subunit will launch its first extended play, entitled What a Life, on July 22, containing six tracks.
Exo have a very mature and experimental sound to them even from debut and they kill their break downs and R&B songs! I can’t wait for you to get to know them because you fall more in love the longer you hear and learn about them.

Kris left EXO first in May 2014. Lu Han left in October of 2014. This was in the mists of promoting “Overdose” this also left EXO with 10 members. Tao left on 2015 a few months after EXOs comeback with “Call Me Baby” which brings us to a total of 9 EXO members. Personally, it was sad to see them go. Now, Lay is still part of EXO his just inactive since he is doing a solo career and a busy schedule in China. The last time we saw Lay was in “Tempo” I recommend looking into his solo Lay is multitalented.

The number of members will change depending on the year/mv as they have had members leave/join military/country tensions between China and S.Korea.
They started as 12 (split into 2 units - EXO-K which sang in Korean and EXO-M who sang in Mandarin) When 3 of the chinese members left (leaving Lay as the only Chinese member) they just became EXO.
