      Lol well done mate, I've got bags more torque when going up my driveway now, don't need to give it as much throttle, no difference in mpg though but still worth it and hopefully no clogged egr valve issues in the long term

      @@406xud does it effect DPF?
      Does DPF have to regenerate more often bcs of this?
      Thnx anyway, great tip.

    For the puzzled people: On the Ford MK4 models (PRE-FACELIFT !!!), you can do this. Without consequence. On the Facelift models, you have to re-program the ECU to remove the error code. Honestly, since EGR valves cost so much and they can get clogged easily, I can understand why anyone would do this.
    There is only ONE downside: The engine will warm up slower in colder temperatures, because there is no hot gas re-circulated. Not a big deal though, the car will heat and all.

      can u do this on a 2010 mk 4 mondeo 2.0 tdci

  • @mkaminski100
    @mkaminski100 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This works temporarily and will cause error code sooner or later. Exhaust gasses can still reach EGR valve and slowly escape through the shaft blocking it and causing the valve to seize

    • @406xud
      @406xud  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      How would gas still reach the EGR valve with a solid piece of steel in the way? I've now done 7 thousand miles without EML lighting, how sooner or later are we talking?

      To stop carbon build up in the inlet manifold

    I would do that at my 2011 2.2, but had read the MIL lights up with the plate... :/
    My 2003 2.0 runs great with a plate, no turbo lag or other problems.

    • @mkaminski100
      @mkaminski100 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any EURO IV engines (shown here Mondeo MK IV and Focus MK II with DW10 or DW12 engines) will recognise blocked EGR valve and the MIL will light up. Some older types might be okay, but all 05 onwards came up with a code after time.
      I have fitted plenty of those and my view is as follows:
      - it does not give any extra torque or power unless EGR is stuck open before this operation. Those who claim otherwise don't know how EGR works.
      - it's okay for old diesels with old, low pressure systems, but it makes Common Rail engines run louder and rattle more. In some it's almost instant (DW when cold) in some it takes time (K9K).
      Food for thought - EGR is not for ECO reasons, but mainly for our health, as NOx gases are pretty harmful to humans. It's funny that the whole world was up in arms when VW apparently cheated on NOx emissions, whereas blocking of EGR which drastically increase emissions of this gas is not checked during MOT.

      @406xud  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for commenting, I have driven 5 thousand miles post blank and the EML has not lit up even once, the engine sound is neither louder nor quieter, and it definitely goes better on partial throttle especially up my steep driveway where once upon a time it struggled to the point I thought that I might have a slipping auto box, but that issue is now history. Of course being cars the experience of another may be different to mine. I did this mainly to stop the soot from clogging up the inlet manifold which would end with an expensive garage bill.
      Unfortunately there are some health issues regarding NOx, if they were to check the levels of NOx I suspect anything non common rail would be an instant failure, that's a lot of cars they'd have to remove from the roads, something which would need maybe a gradual approach.

      I've already fitted 2 to my olf MK4 2.0 TDCI and had no EML isue and agree with you that you do get ever so slightly better performance but could be just psychological. I'm now waiting on my 3rd Plate as yet again i've gone and bought another MK4 (Pre 2011 facelift) 2.0 TDCI best engines in my opinion. and hopefully theres no issues with this one either. By the way how's your car running lately? everything still good? Cheers

      @406xud  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi just saw your comment sorry, the car is running fine except that this week the EML came on for DPF efficiency low, code P2002, at 176k I guess the original DPF has done very well, no issues to report with the EGR side of things, thanks for commenting

  • @MrMeriloto
    @MrMeriloto 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, would you please comment on the reasons & benefits for this? While looking online I found that an EGR closed, i.e. identical to what you've done "causes nitrogen oxide emissions to rise and the car might start to knock. A sharp knock occurs when the fuel in the combustion chamber ignites before the explosion in the cylinder reaches it. This leads to a disruption in engine timing. When this happens, warm up your engine and rev it, then check if the EGR valve will move". Thanks for the video, and for your time to respond.

    • @406xud
      @406xud  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for commenting, I have driven 5 thousand miles since the blank, the car drives better at light throttle but no difference after that, no extra overtaking power, the engine sound is identical to before the blank, I did this mainly to stop the inlet manifold getting clogged by recycled gases containing soot from the EGR.

      I wish I had that much power...you should see a gain at the lower end of the rev range, the EGR is only active at partial throttle, this blank is mainly to stop the EGR and inlet manifold clogging up with soot

    • @406xud
      @406xud  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr.Mister ok, in that case you may need to use a gasket on either side of the egr blank, but that may be too much material, you don't want toxic fumes getting into your car through the heater vents, ask a mechanic for further advice, better to be safe you'll agree

    • @Mr.M1STER
      @Mr.M1STER 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      406xud Thanks for the reply. I slid the egr blank in place and just reused the old gasket. However when i spit on my finger and smear it (old method i used to test bicycle punctures) near where I put in the blank in and leave the car running I can see small bubbles starting to form. I may just buy two new gaskets and see if I can seal it up somehow.

    • @406xud
      @406xud  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is also liquid gaskets available if space is limited. I use soapy water solution to spray around injector seats to check for leaks. I hope you get it sorted mate.

    Hi,did exactly the same today on my Volvo S40 2007 2.0 TDCI 136HP.After the first acceleration the code P0490 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit A Hight appeared.Can somebody explain how the blanking plate could retrieve this code and what does it mean?!Thanks for any help.

    • @406xud
      @406xud  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The EGR needs to detect a particular amount of gas flow through it, by blocking it off you have reduced the flow to zero, therefore you have the error code

    • @nemocap2958
      @nemocap2958 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!It means that without remaping I won't be able to blank it?How the egr defects the flow?I haven't see any sensors inside,just the rod.Or this is done on the throttle?

    • @406xud
      @406xud  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know how it works exactly but there will be a sensor somewhere to detect this, until you remap it the engine management light will continue to come on, sometimes as quickly as yours did and sometimes after a few miles, mine has not come on even once, I do not know why except the only explanation I have is that it is an automatic gearbox.

    • @nemocap2958
      @nemocap2958 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much.I think this game is over for me))I do not mind to have EGR (in good condition of course) despite knowing how much crap can be going back to the engine especially if the engine is not serviced regularly and cheap diesel is used.The main fact for me to have EGR is about turbo.On old diesels ,turbo had West Gate valve to get rid of excessive pressure when needed.Now,turbos with variable geometry reduces pressure through the EGR valvse and I suppose that this factor pretty important to be considered.So,the thing is that my engine for some reason,at most of the time slightly shakes at idle but very reaely work like a charm and I can't find the reasons.This tremor I feel on the seat.Its kind of periodical misfire effect.I thought to blank the egr and see if there will be any difference.No difference.The blanking plate was removed after few hours of driving.I was almost sure that the egr stuck a bit open and unneeded exhaust gases are going in to cylinders.Unfortunately,not.Shake still in place.No codes,nothing.

    • @406xud
      @406xud  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well top marks for trying, diesels are so complicated it's hard even for seasoned mechanics to diagnose, but I would hazard a guess that one of your injectors is not working properly hence the shake at idle

    • @iputitonyoutube3895
      @iputitonyoutube3895 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The glow plugs on the Old 2L PSA engines nightmare to change they are directly below the EGR cooler there's loads strip down to even get to the glow plugs please be careful with these glow plugs as they are notorious for either getting jammed and snapping in half or the electrodes getting stuck when you remove the glow plugs so unless you're confident completely confident in doing the glow plugs on this engine I wouldn't bother if you break one it's game over
