This is a batch of a job on a Ford C max, done twice, now it's simplified, blanked it off. Runs better no smoke. Just remove blank for mot test and refit after she passes. Takes 30 minutes either way.
Mr Fix - thanks for the video, was very helpful. For Citroen C8 (and most likely the Peugeot 807, Fiat Ulysse and Lancia Phedra) here are a few tips: The entire operation is far easier if you remove the induction pipe from the filter box running to the turbocharger inlet, simply remove the blanked loom lead from above the EGR lead, loosen the jubilee clip at the air box, disconnect the breather as shown in the video and remove the single screw at the turbo inlet manifold, with a bit of wiggling it will lift right out. When removing the EGR screws you will have better luck from below if the rear screws are tight. Once the induction pipe is removed you get fairly clear access to the EGR and you will see the two rear screws (8mm head), the lower EGR cooler screw (10mm head) and single hex head screw on the bottom (4 or 5mm, think it was 5). Remove the bottom and cooler screws and loosen the rear screws enough you can easily undo them from the top of the block (mine were quite tight and too stiff to easily undo from the top, others may be luckier). When reassembling you will have to have the EGR fairly tight onto the cooler before the bottom screw will locate, just keep tightening until it goes in. Finally, I replaced my EGR with a Delphi EG10396-12B1, this was a like for like part and required NO reprogramming, just a simple reset with a basic diagnostics machine.
I just found this tutorial as I have problems with the EGR on my Citroen C5 and I have to say i'țs a pig of a job..yesterday I had a go but it was going late and I had to abandon as I did not locate the 3rd hex screw from below the EGR. On my Citroen C5 2.0HDI, when i was changing the EGR valve it fallen down and after like 5-6 months we removed the full engine because of a hole in the block of the engine and it was still staying on the engine but not ot it's place.

Hi, excellent and very informative video!I have a question about the engine breather. Is there is any chances to remove that round cap?Assume there is a rubber membrane which need to be cleaned from time to time?Im trying to find information about the sump ventilation. If I'm not mistaken, sump gases goes up through the oil filler, then through the rubber hose connected to cranckshaft case and then exists on the left side of the cranckshaft case??
I don't have that car anymore but if i remember correctly you need to remove whole intake manifold to access the oil separator. Round cap should be detachable but I've never opened it.
mr-fix Thanks for responding.Yes,there is no chance to access oil separator without taking all manifold off but as it turned out, that round cup is detachable an you can access the valve.I did open it today)On some vw models that cap is sealed. I have annoying periodical short vibration(on idle)on the car body( not on steering wheel, pedals or gear lever) and I cannot find the source. Egr is cleaned, engine mounts seems to be ok,all filters are new, sponges in both brown valves are cleaned, good fuel,no air in fuel line no codes.Would you have any ideas? Many thanks
One of the things that you can check is the high pressure fuel valve. It can get clogged with aluminum form the fuel pump which can make cause improper work of it.
mr-fix Hmmmm..Very good idea!I definitely will check that valve because when I changed fuel filter there was some very small metal particles on the bottom of the filter holder. Can I unscrew that valve or I will have an issue with the air in the fuel line later?
you might have some issues with air but if you first open your tank for a minute (to remove vacuum) and put clamps on the fuel lines in the engine bay, you can minimize that issue. Valve itself is held by two torx screws. Easy accessible.

Not likely. But please if your variable geometry turbine veins are moving freely. If the VGT is stuck or is not moving as it should it could cause overboost problems. Also intake pressure sensor, VGT position sensor, vacuum valve that controls turbine.

can anyone explain in simple terms the principle of having the two air pipes going into the intake manifold on these engines. there is a vacuum actuated butterfly flap on each pipe inside the the plastic tee piece and ive noticed the right hand one on my car is knackered, the little plastic rack&pinion mechanism is all mashed. i believe this is quite common .

Hey mate, I know it's a little late but if you've tuned the car to block the egr then your EGR will never open meaning cleaning will be pretty much useless. You can even go 1 step further and remove the whole system entirely (woohoo 50g weight saving)

Hi, I have volvo s40 2.0d When I remove pipe on the cooler(that one that you suggest to remove, to get to the bottom bolt that holds egr and cooler together) some fluid fell down. Anyone pls help WHAT was that. Is that was cooler fluid?
My 2010 french ford fusion (84000 kms) seemed to be making tapping noises a few weeks ago. I brought it to the dealer so the mechanic could listen to it. He did hear the noise but told me it was probably some plastic piece that was loose and not to worry about it. I took his advice, but now I have a diesel fuel smell when I turn off the engine. I've looked but there is no evidence of leaking fuel. Went back to see the mechanic but he's on vacation and the manager told me to change the fuel filter, (which I have never done). So I've watched some videos and came across one with some guy changing his EGR valve at 110,000 kms. He spoke of the the valve making a clicking noise....so of course I'm wondering if this is the cause of my problem?
EGR valve is responsible only for the exhaust gases recirculation. It has nothing to do directly with fuel. About the fuel smell - take off plastic engine cover and check if there's not fuel near the injectors. Sometimes one of the fuel return lines leaks.
Well, I changed the fuel filter, with the idea that I might see something behind it. I did see some clear fluid leaking, but strangely, not diesel fuel. (no smell) I originally thought it to be engine oil, but it's clear. Anyway, I brought the car to a garage and the mechanic said the same thing as you -fuel return line. But he also said, as I can see, that it is buried underneath all sorts of crap. A 2 day job for him.
I have this engine and I was getting very poor mpg (28mpg)... I disconnected the egr valve wire, and the mpg went to 60mpg and the car was more powerful.... but after 1 hour, the car mpg went down again... so I know there is a problem with my egr valve....
EGR cooler is the highest part of the cooling system. When you disconnect the cooler you will loose some coolant, but you don't have to drain the system.

yeah...it's nasty. you can get it from underneath - but you need like 3 socket extensions to reach it. Original bolt is an allen key (5mm or 6?) . But i changed it to a ordinary hex bolt..now i can reach it from upside with a small 10mm spanner (might have to grind the edges to make it narrower) - it's in the same line as the rightest upper screw. Eitherway - it's difficult.
If EGR is working correctly, then there will be no power gain after EGR-delete. Please notice that with EGR permanently closed the EGR cooler will stay cold (engine will warm up slower and cold engine = higher fuel consumption) and EGR is a part of the turbo system - EGR performs partially as as waste-gate.
This is right. BUT. The efficiency for engine to be warm faster with EGR or without ir just 5% faster, so why do YOU need that CANCER in car? Just delete EGR from ECU software, disconect EGR PLUG and go on on on... EGR is like waste gate? You change it by removing properly in ECU program. Without EGR engine runs much better, no LAG on first second when You press throttle pedal. I will not talk abaout the JUNK in engine with EGR. EGR = DISSASTER. Just for GREENPEACE.
Hi Laimonas, I couldn't agree more. I deleted the egr from my jaguar x type 2.0 turbo diesel and the improvement on economy and performance was fantastic. EGR amd DPF are 2 crap things that the cars have.
Yeah, on the other hand if you want a car that is safe and compact you need to place some parts in inconvenient places to save crash zones... Same goes for the pollen filter in this car. If it was easy accessible, passenger cabin had to be shorter.
pollen filter ... holly shit... how much i was swearing that day while changing fu*king filter on Focus Mk2,5. Taking the fu*king gas pedal to change pollen filter and even then it's still not easy to put new one ! Fuuuu#$"#"E"%" :/

If new DPF is full after 2 days, then there's something wrong with the engine. Leaking injector, oil leak from turbo...
@@mrfixpl booked in to reset values lets see and report back no other error codes
Let me know how it goes.
can anyone explain in simple terms the principle of having the two air pipes going into the intake manifold on these engines. there is a vacuum actuated butterfly flap on each pipe inside the the plastic tee piece and ive noticed the right hand one on my car is knackered, the little plastic rack&pinion mechanism is all mashed. i believe this is quite common .
It’s an intercooler bypass system. Charged air can go through intercooler or not based on ECU decision.
@@mrfixpl thankyou - i have just picked up a old tdci for cheap but has zero boost . ive found a burst intercooler pipe and broken butterfly vane so far which hopefully will fix it. Going to clean the egr system too. your videos are very helpful.
Hey man! I really like your videos!
But I have one problem following this one:
when i unscrew all of 4 screws holding EGR valve, it won't move.
Could it be so clogged up it won't fall apart ?
Thank you for answer!
I have this issue too! Did you ever work out why?
@@SamzWorldOfGaming there's another Allen bolt holding it on underneath. I just gave up and left mine on..blanked it and had it deleted from the ecu.
Same problem as i have encounter. I could not remove the bolt attach under the egr
Honestly, I would have removed the plastic trim beneath the windshield. would make it so much accessible.
How regularly should this be done. Also is it likely to be similar for a later 1.6 HDi?
I want to disable my EGR by software. This is possible. Do I need first clean the EGR before disable it for best result or not?
Hey mate, I know it's a little late but if you've tuned the car to block the egr then your EGR will never open meaning cleaning will be pretty much useless. You can even go 1 step further and remove the whole system entirely (woohoo 50g weight saving)
Hi
I have ford focus mk2 2.0 tdci 100kw do you or anyone else know the reason except the thermostat why these engines sometimes don’t get warm enough? Thanks
Mine just warmed up to about a quarter....was the waterpump and thermostat. Had them replaced and now warms up perfectly
I have one too , very often the heater matrix goes on them
Does anyone know whether EGR valves physically fail i.e. cannot be resolved with simply cleaning the carbon out?
Hi, I have volvo s40 2.0d
When I remove pipe on the cooler(that one that you suggest to remove, to get to the bottom bolt that holds egr and cooler together) some fluid fell down. Anyone pls help WHAT was that. Is that was cooler fluid?
good job
BIG THANKS MAN :)
Thanks I will check that out
Well, I changed the fuel filter, with the idea that I might see something behind it.
3:03 Is there a gasket at this joint? How does the egr pipe seal against the egr valve?
what's is size of rubber 0 ring on silver pipe ?
Cum se curățării egr la ford mondeo 2.0tdci mk4?
There's a lot of different 2.0TDCi engines. 110PS, 115PS, 130PS, 136PS, 140PS, 163PS...
Do you know where the glow plug relay is on this engine?
In Volvo it's somewhere behind the front bumper.
do I have to drain the coolant for when i remove the coolant hose?
EGR cooler is the highest part of the cooling system. When you disconnect the cooler you will loose some coolant, but you don't have to drain the system.
mr-fix ok thank you
it's more easy in vw engines
That's why I made this tutorial.
Thank brother
Citroen c5 egr valve symptom and causes
would you recommend to delete egr valve on c30 2.0d?
Thank you Mr Fix for this very informative video. I have a Ford s max 2011 2.0tdci engine 163hp.
Any chance I can bring my car down to you to have my egr valve and egr cooler cleaned.
My car has done 150000 miles and I wish to keep it until it runs no further and therefore I would really like to clean the egr valve and egr cooler so it functions as it should.
I could give it a go, all thanks to you showing how it's done in your video but I would prefer to have it done by someone like you who knows what they are doing.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks
I'm not running repair shop. Sorry.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. I understand you are not running a repair shop however I can you pay you to have my egr valve and egr cooler cleaned at your convenience. If not I understand however many thanks for your reply. Much appreciated.

Not on my MK4. I have 2013 with auto box. No metal pipe on my engine.
this is my last Ford. never 2 buy again , I changed also the Air condition Air filter with such problems
Many thanks pal for making this video.
I need som help on how to install a blow off valve on Ford c-max 2004 2.0TDCI ,having some issues on how to find where it goes 🤔🤔.
I would aprishiate if you could get back to me
Thanks
Do you might if I ask why you want to install blow off valve in diesel engine?
Shore you can ask pal.
It's mostly just coz of the sound it makes .
does anybody know if this will help my not starting problem when hot
Also volvo D4
What's that pipe called?
It’s the EGR cooler
@@mrfixpl thank you! Mines got a big dent in.. would this effect the running or restrict air flow?
WOW Volvo with citroen engine, lol, i knew that is some mercedes with renault engines, but this?
Not only that. Ford owned Volvo in that time, so it’s made mostly from Ford Focus Mk2 parts and assembled in Belgium.
My Egr has a 3rd bolt at bottom. Does anyone know how to get to it?
yeah...it's nasty. you can get it from underneath - but you need like 3 socket extensions to reach it.

Hello Guys. Plz anybody coule gimme the name of the track plzzzzz !!!
Is it possible to delete the egr System will it run without it properly is it more economical with out it and perform better power wise
What ECU software and cables you use to do it? Please help.
Think you’re mixing egr up with anti shudder valve when you’re talking about turning engine off and slowing down turbo
No, he is not, in this engine egr valve is taking the role of the valve about which you are talking. He is 100% right.
all i herd was remove remove remove.
they sure make these parts almost impossible to remove or need some type of engineering degree.
What are the signs of valve contamination?
No signs, you car just stops responding to acceleration. In general it gets clogged around 100.000 kms. Mine did without warning, just lost power on the highway.
Only properly way of cleaning EGR valve & cooler, these sprays do not work 👍
