Van Halen's debut album is one of the best debuts of all time. Let me tell you a story. Its 1978, I'm 19 years old working my first job in Glasgow, every Friday after work i used to pop into a record shop on Union Street for a mooch. I go in this day and a song comes on while I'm browsing, straight away it catches my attention. The song finishes and straight away i go up to the guy serving and ask who it was, the guy lifts up the cover of that album and says eh... It's a new band called Van Halen, think there American. Anyway, about three weeks later me and my mate go to see Black Sabbath at the Apollo in Glasgow on their Never Say Die tour unaware of who the support band is. We're standing there and the next thing the intro to the song I'd heard in the record shop three weeks prior starts playing before the band burst onto the stage and play 'Running With the Devil ' from their debut album. I've seen many support bands in my time but not many have blown the headliners off the stage as much as Van Halen did with black Sabbath, but then again, Sabbath were coming to an end at that point.
Nice update. Like you, I wouldn't leave any of those cassettes behind at that price. My Silent Wake sounds like an interesting band, but the band name just screams 2000s metalcore to me.
For £1 a tape… you CANNOT leave them there can yer mate! I’d like to grab a copy of ‘Chemical Exposure’ myself at some point… it’s one I’ve never owned! Good to see you Mike!🤘🏻
Seeing that perfect strangers album has reminded me to go back and check it out again while I'm not the biggest purple fan that's one of theirs I do own nice bunch of stuff you showed there mate cheers
Nice update, Mike. Can't argue with any of those cassettes for a quid each! I saw that Deep Purple for a tenner on vinyl in my local record shop, along with 2 or 3 others, the other week and stupidly left them all there. I have no idea why, and I regret it now! 😭😂 I own that 'Justice' press myself and I agree, it's a belter! I love Dismember. Great band! I picked all of those represses up over the last year or so. Sadly I paid more than a tenner for all of them. I think you might have upset Marc on that Autopsy, if he's watching! 😂 I've just bought a copy of that My Silent Wake. I've heard it playing in the background of a couple of videos, and it sounds great. Apparently there's 1 copy left now, so thanks for the heads up! Enjoy the new spins, my friend! Cheers! 🤘
@@metalmickey Cheers, mate. I'm gutted too, as John was so fucked we had to leave after 2 songs! 😂 Thankfully I've seen them before, but it would have been nice to have been able to do so again! 🤣🤣🤣
Great update! Got my first autopsy vinyl semi-recently and aiming for a full discography in my collection so great to see them! Classic band. Some of those bands i’m unfamiliar with so i must check them out! Love the maiden shirt! Cheers and enjoy your new spins! 🤘
Not much into Van Halen either but, I would pick that up as well. That Deep Purple is a very good album. Agreed, That Metallica repress sounds great. I have the OG as well but, it is retired so to speak. Like An Ever Flowing Stream is the first I heard but, I prefer Massive Killing Capacity. I love the bass lines in the 3rd Sadus, It is the only album I own by them. Great collection update.
Some nice pickups here Mike. I like you snagged pieces off Amazon for a few pound notes. Still have a few more to grab. Glad that they did a good job on justice for all mixwise. And that my silent wake I need to grab a copy. Oh if you want rid of that autopsy maybe we can work something out dude 😉 them tapes were a steal mate 🤘🏻
Hi Mike!!! Great cassettes additions to the collection and for $1 it's a bargain you can't miss... VH!!! and that Deep Purple are two cool ones. Not to see finally Metallica's "Unjustice...." and that it sounds better than the cd, don't know My Silent Wake maybe too "!modern" for my taste. cheers and be well
Two great purple albums …I checked my cassette s there, thought I might of had HOBL but I only have it on vinyl Intrigued by the My Silent Wake album, I always thought the band name sounded metalcore lol Nice update Mike
Deep Purple aren’t a huge band in my world either but Perfect Strangers is awesome! I’ve never heard The House Of Blue Light, I’ll check it out on the headphones tomorrow!
Glad you are into that era of " Deep Purple " Mike . Thats when I first discovered them so I am biased, I like both those albums you mentioned. Before my friend left for Australia he gifted me " Dirty Deeds " with the alternative cover to yours, I do prefer it. Bad move ditching your AC/DC , there will come a time when you get the AC/DC itch. That must be scratched!. All the Blackened re-issues of the Metallica albums are really good, Iron Maiden need to learn from them as their re-issues are terrible I.M.O Cheers Sir🍻
@@metalmickey Pretty bad on vinyl especially " Powerslave ". Might be O.K on C.D. Had to get rid of a couple of my copies and Get 80's copies of the albums. Just ordered " My Silent Wake ' by the way. Love Simons vocals on " Thy Listless heart ".
Awesome update Mike! Cool cassettes you bought. Good to see Dismember, Sadus, Autopsy and Metallica on vinyl. My Silent Wake sounds like an interesting band.
Nice update Mike! Cool cassette pickups, I haven't heard mhch Van Halen myself. Love that AC/DC album, one of my favourites! That's cool you got Metallica Justice for all from Bev, and I'm glad to hear it sounds really good. Need to check out some Sadus and Dismember, they're on my list to check out for this year but of course I haven't yet! I agree with Kim, My Silent Wake sound like they should be playing Metalcore like Killswitch Engage! 🤘🤘
@@metalmickey You're welcome man! Ha thanks, as a Metalcore fan myself a lot of bands would have been happy with a name like that! No I don't have anything by Dark Angel as it goes, they're another one of those bands I've wanted to check out but haven't yet. I sense you might have a spare??
Nice, you got more than I did in the last couple of weeks, hahaha... I love "Perfect Strangers" but for some reason "House..." never klicked with me. I can´t even put my finger on what it is. I had the record for ages and I tried and tried. I just couldn´t get into it. I sold the record just recently.
Glasses on your glasses, time for some varifocals Mike! No way I'd leave those tapes for a quid either. I had a listen to that My Silent Wake and you'll probably not be surprised that I disagree about the vocals, not my cuppa tea at all!
😂 Yeah my eyesight is bad. Neither vocal style appeal eh? No I'm not surprised really but it's just good to find something new I can get into. Have you tried the Hellbutcher video? The guy looks like Beetlejuice buts it's good 🤘
Love that Justice album, my fav Metallica - only own it on cd ( twice) - don't own any Metallica on vinyl. Gotta love Autopsy & Dismember - got those on vinyl, same with Sadus ( which is on lovely piss yellow wax )
Not sure which release it was, but I heard the vinyl of And Justice for All that a friend of mine has and the cd versions don't even come close to that.
Van Halen 1 for a quid is an absolute bargain. I listened to Perfect Strangers and The House if Blue Light just a couple of weeks back, excellent Deep Purple albums. I like both Autopsy and Dismember but for me both bands are nowhere near as great as they are made out to be. Especially Dismember, they just copied everything Entombed did and didn't do it as well. Cheers Mike
Yeah I think the same. The more extreme the band or genre I tend to see a more extreme display of adoration for things. Death Metal by definition is very restricted in its sound. The best albums in the genre still can't compete with a big hitter from a more broader genre.
Just got the 2 back on black HYDRA VEIN vinyl reissues from plastic head, they got a sale on. Unless it's on the 'under one flag' label, i don't bother with original releases now (I collect that label), unless it's too much of a bargain to pass up but thanks to discogs people are over-valuing their records so finding bargains is getting really hard. Glad the metallica reissue ticked all your boxes. hopefully the classic kill 'em all does as well.
Yeah those Hydra Vein albums a good I have the CDs. I have a Under One Flag vinyl of Possessed mini LP if you have anything for trade if you don't have it
"proper savage" is the perfect description for that first Sadus album

For £1 a tape… you CANNOT leave them there can yer mate! I’d like to grab a copy of ‘Chemical Exposure’ myself at some point… it’s one I’ve never owned! Good to see you Mike!🤘🏻
You have to just keep looking on Amazon. They swung from £12.99 to £25.99 all the time for some reason. Hope you are well mate 🤘
Seeing that perfect strangers album has reminded me to go back and check it out again while I'm not the biggest purple fan that's one of theirs I do own nice bunch of stuff you showed there mate cheers
Yeah it's a good one. Ok it's no Rainbow Rising but it's decent

Good prices you payed for those tapes. You can not go wrong with that Mike.
He was actually the singer for the UK nwobhm band Hammerhead. They have an album on High Roller

VH for $1, I would buy every day of the week 🤘hope some of the early VH clicks for you one day.
Yeah I would have picked up more if he'd had them mate. I'll plug away at it though 🤘

Yeah either way it's not a great fit for the band in my opinion lol. Oh cheers Marty. I'll get hold of one cheap by the look of it. . 🤘
Deep Purple aren’t a huge band in my world either but Perfect Strangers is awesome! I’ve never heard The House Of Blue Light, I’ll check it out on the headphones tomorrow!
He's a top class guitarist but I think Ian Gillan can be a bit patchy but clearly an influence on Bruce Bruce!
