For finding/exploring new music, streaming is great, but it’s when you rlly love something (or it’s marked down in price at the local goodwill) that you get a physical copy (vinyl/CD/cassette). Cassettes and 8tracks sound better but they also have a stupidly low shelf life because magnetic tape tends to degrade so quickly.

Here recently my grandparents sent me a huge collection of cassettes. I even purchased a Walkman. Needless to say, I think I'm going to be on a cassette kick for a bit! (P.S. @@Judyhopps-1iq modern consoles should do just fine. You can rip the songs from the cd digitally to be stored on the Xbox, and Xbox 360 hard drives. I’ve personally been obsessed with MiniDisc. It’s like cassette but with all the conveniences of CD as a digital format. Very customizable too with all the disc colors and sticker labels.
To me listening to vinyl is like an experience. You have to take it out, you look at the beautiful packaging and the artwork, sometimes the vinyl is colored which I absolutely love, you place the needle on it, you cannot skip a song or go back (not easily anyway), and then you gotta turn it halfway. All this on a home sound system, no bluetooth. Which means if you're going to listen to it, you will stay in that room and you will interact with it rather than just listening to a playlist on a bluetooth speaker and not paying much attention
I have a small cd collection. I love having physical media, especially since I have some music not available on streaming & I own the music. No ads or wi-fi is needed, they're convenient, easy to store & the art work is nice to look at.
8:54 And also getting alternative artwork makes them more appealing. The vinyl version of Vs. has a different cover btw (as well as Riot Act and Avocado + Ten's is the full unfolded CD booklet).
A lot of the music I like to listen to is not being sold digitally, so I tend to prefer CDs. They've got a good balance of having music I like, being durable, having good sound quality, being physical, and taking up the right amount of space. They fit quite well on my bookshelf.
Love the resurgence in vinyl popularity. Some old fellow sees an opportunity to make a quick buck, thrifts it, and I get my Van Der Graaf records for like $5 at best. Then there's King Crimson which somehow never sells below $30
I also love the resurgence of vinyls, although I do hate how much vinylheads pretend as if they sound better. They crackle, they hiss, they pop, they have inner groove distortion and even when they're brand new, the end of the record always sounds considerably worse than the beginning. They're also fragile and they lose sound quality every time you play them. They're a ton of fun to collect, they're a real work of art, and I'm glad they're popular still, but people be acting stupid as fuck about vinyls.
@@HeartlessValiumWhore it all really depends on the record and the turntable, my copy of aja by Steely Dan after a quick clean sounds incredible(better than digital) with almost no background noise. My best vinyl memory came today. I was shopping in Target and i saw TPAB so I picked it up and payed for it. I then walked into Marshal's, which was where my mom was shopping. I was looking for her when I walked over to the fitting rooms, and the female worker had her coworker friends there. They struck a conversation up and we talked for 7ish minuets, and I looked down at my valued album, and I looked at the workers and in that moment i decided to donate it to them, so I asked the group "hey, are any of you a fan of Kendrick Lamar?" And 2/3 said no, the 1 that said yes, I handed TPAB to her and I backed up. Her coworker friend said "wait why did you do that?" I said "why not? Have a nice day." I have never seen someone so excited over a vinyl. Thanks for reading
I've started my vinyl collection recently, the reason why I enjoy listening to vinyl is the ritual that is putting in the record, spinning it, and then lowering the stylus. It's also fun to collect.
It's just art for me. If u were to walk into someones house and see "in the aeroplane over the sea" on someone's wall you wouldn't even know there was like music for it
The process of creating your own playlists goes back way further than cassettes. Record changers that allowed you to stack multiple records to be played in succession have existed since 1927, and before that some portable record players had compartments store multiple records inside. Later on with the success of the 45 small record booklets with handles became popular amongst teens in the 50s, and after that 8 tracks were the first true first form of general consumer tape that people would create playlists on
Me and my friend are trying to get all the mainstream audio types, I’ve got the most CDs, but he’s got a few vinyls, a fair amount of cassettes, and even 2 8-track tapes. There’s just something about listening to music on these old physical and niche formats that’s so fun and interesting, even if the audio has no low frequencies and the rest is covered in scratches and artifacts, we just say that the piece of media has “gained character with aging like fine wine”. Hence why if we wanna listen to music nicely, we buy CDs of it. But also being invested in music production and DJ-ing thanks entirely to Daft Punk and friends, we also wanna get lots of records later someday to be able to DJ oldskool style

I've been into vinyl for a couple years now, and it's so satisfying to put so much "effort" in deliberately playing an album you want to listen to. Here recently my grandparents sent me a huge collection of cassettes. I even purchased a Walkman. Needless to say, I think I'm going to be on a cassette kick for a bit!
(P.S. I've just realized I'm going in chronological order! Next up is CD's, haha.)
I love the details in this video, like the light 6 on MBDTF at 5:56
Cassette nerd here. ( I still collect some cds as well) but I like how tapes are small, cool looking and are easily portable unlike cds. Plus I enjoy working on Walkmans
Where do you buy your cassettes from? My local electronic stores don’t have anything.
@@bismuththebi thrift shops, garage sales, and online tape shops are great places. Ebay as well!
@@RobiticDuck thanks!
can i ask u something will cds work better on a xbox or ps3??? or sega dreamcast then a boombox??
@@Judyhopps-1iq modern consoles should do just fine. You can rip the songs from the cd digitally to be stored on the Xbox, and Xbox 360 hard drives. I'm not too sure about the PS3 but it probably has a similar feature. I do still reccomend buying a radio with a cd player if it's an option for you. Happy collecting!
I’ve personally been obsessed with MiniDisc. It’s like cassette but with all the conveniences of CD as a digital format. Very customizable too with all the disc colors and sticker labels.
i am a cassette collector bc i just love those little guys :)
Which means if you're going to listen to it, you will stay in that room and you will interact with it rather than just listening to a playlist on a bluetooth speaker and not paying much attention
inject this serotonin of seeing an onlysmallbites video, into our mf veinsss
2:42 If only you knew about the movie people who refuse to shut up about their Criterion Collection CD of Fallen Angels
This is Scott the woz X music and I am now screaming in excitement
True👍👌
dude youtube recommendations finally showed me a good channel
I collect CDs cos they’re more compact
also you can play on dvd players, xbox, or old hi fi systems
perfect for cars too!
I have a small cd collection. I love having physical media, especially since I have some music not available on streaming & I own the music. No ads or wi-fi is needed, they're convenient, easy to store & the art work is nice to look at.
Love the new series man. Keep it up!
IS THAT POGO ON THE SHELF AT THE END?! YESSSS
While I can't get anything by foo fighters to sound great no matter how much cleaning I put in. Digital is just more consistent
the Igor Cassette goes hard asf
You actually spent money on a copy of TPAB? Were you drunk?
I've started my vinyl collection recently, the reason why I enjoy listening to vinyl is the ritual that is putting in the record, spinning it, and then lowering the stylus. It's also fun to collect.
The use of the plural vinyls makes me wanna break into your home and eat all your food
Bro chill 😂
@@Anastasia2048 no, i'm hungry
@@ismellstatic Just eat a snickers man. You ain't yourself when you're hungry.
I predict this is the start of “The onlysmallbites dynasty”
I'm a vinyl kinda person, it's like a ritual listening to vinyl!
viny are garbage
i like being able to like, physically own the music, something about going up to my shelf and shuffling through cds is so nice
Based POGO album art above Bites' head at 9:05
Out of all the little jokes in this video, the "fade to black" one got me XD love it!
It's just art for me. If u were to walk into someones house and see "in the aeroplane over the sea" on someone's wall you wouldn't even know there was like music for it
Haven't even watched the video yet and I'm already liking cuz I just have that faith
Shoutout to the tiny ATCQ sample at 8:07.
that laserdisc part got me wheezing looool
Dude, I started collecting vinyl and CD's after watching your videos. You legit sparked a hobby for me.
it is to expensive tho😂
@@piekark9951 cds are pretty cheap tbh
@@Hermit__ yeah that's why I'm trying to collect them. I got my first cd in the collection just a few days ago, Demon Days by Gorillaz
@@pigmafia amazing album. For me my first cd was the Eminem show
@@Hermit__ cds arent bad but vinyls are a lot
9:07 SUPERMODEL!!! BY FOSTER THE PEOPLE!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!! FOR PUTTING IT IN YOUR STORE!!!!!!!
waiting for the comments about "vinyls"
3:19 wait was that the how does it feel rim
The process of creating your own playlists goes back way further than cassettes. Record changers that allowed you to stack multiple records to be played in succession have existed since 1927, and before that some portable record players had compartments store multiple records inside.
Later on with the success of the 45 small record booklets with handles became popular amongst teens in the 50s, and after that 8 tracks were the first true first form of general consumer tape that people would create playlists on
Anybody else love the feeling of vinyls in their hands?
Plural of vinyl is vinyl, not vinyls
yes
fr i love that sound of scratching little doodles in my vinyls with my fingernails
listening to physical versions of my favourite albums just hits different
I heard a second of Happy Valentine's Day from Outkast in this video. Am I mistaken?
Love Cassettes Man The Sound The Size The Equipment Of Showing Via Beautiful VU Meter To A Bright Digital Meter The Format Is Underrated
4:50 I'd say mini shaped cds. I have one that's in the form of a square.
Started on cassettes 2 years ago and I'm not turning back
how the hell can you prefer cassettes over cds?! cassettes sounds awful
@@Jordan-fn5rjbro stop spreading hate in all these replies, let people enjoy what they like. Also, a type II or above tape in a proper deck can sound just as good as CD.
If you want to brag about quality, just use a lossless streaming service.
the 1 grit touch. loved it.
If it's brand new, and it's someone I like, I buy a cd. If it came out on cd at all and it's cheaper than an lp, I get a cd.
I couldn’t pay attention once I realised you were using stock sounds from fl studio to punctuate the script. Some wonderful memories of 2008 and scrolling through all those sounds at 3am came flooding back.
Another great video, my favorite part was 6:44, please keep making videos🙏
2:56 LISTENING WITH HEADPHONES IS CRAZY THE AIR SOUNDED SO REAL
