This is surprisingly pretty straight forward. Nice to see the process! Now you should make one on converting the SMG in the M5 😉. I regret fixing my smg when I was having issues and not just biting the bullet on a 6 speed swap.
Thanks, Alex! Oh, I’d imagine it’d cost a fortune to swap the SMG for a manual in your M5. It’s gotta be a totally different and more involved process.
In a few years I wonder if ones with recently refurbished SMGs (still with two pedals) will be worth roughly the same as the equivalent manuals? For me I'd quite like an SMG but I'd want a previous owner to foot the bill when it goes!
It's a question many of us have asked. From a maintenance standpoint, the manual makes way more sense. Ultimately, that was what drove my decision. And I have no regrets. But I've also owned the car for nearly 14 years and have no plans to sell.
Hello there... Nice video and nice to see all the parts you need to change .. but one more thing how about the meter gauge its showing SMG and now is manual gearbox how to change that one any help please
Greetings Brent, Great video. I am about to do a smg swap myself. Can't waitng to hear how much I need to come up with 💲💲.Once again, great having you back. Looking forward to the next video.
Thank you, Pedro! I'll do my best to publish my reaction video to the swap next week, so yes - please do stay tuned for that alone. As for your swap, well, when you're ready - just let me know...as I have done the research on the process. It's not as bad as it could be, but it still hurts! I didn't say how much it cost for a reason.. Ha! But as you could see from the itemized list in the vid, there were a number of items that needed replacing that weren't immediately part of the swap... Yet once you open it up and see what needs replacing, it's typically best that you do.
Another great video yet again love the editing you do aswell really impressive and the old brochure smg pictures is something else i mean im all for the smg but totally get your decision of changing to manual but wouldnt this world be a boring place iff everyone agreed n had same opinions on things but seems like you got a decent mechanic there on the job n yet again looking forward to the next videos ☺
Thanks so much for your words, Mike. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yeah - Joe is great. I sent the vid to him, and he was all excited… Well, we do love our opinions. :) I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to go with these things. That said, I’m loving the car as a manual after having it SMG for 11 years. That’s a change I can live with…that, and I feel less guilty spending all that money knowing it’s worth more and won’t have to fix it again. Ha! Next? Reinforcing the subframe? Ugh….it’s always something!
@@brentdcampbell couldnt agree more brent and would be good seeing more of joe working on your bmws might he be the one doing the chassis reinforcing at some point ? 😬😁 i did a full chassic nut n bolt refresh a year or so back got it painted in phoenix yellow and clear coated so its all matching probably cost me the upwards of 10k so not cheap but well worth it 👍
If you like a manual then all good go for it HOWEVER if your going to TOSS off about a SMG can't keep up with a manual while changing gears then please STOP bull shitting to the public.... The Negative comments only come from know it all BOY racers...... BUT they forget to mention one MAJOR point about the SMG.... The reason why BMW only used the SMG in their fastest E46 M3 build ( the CSL ) .... Because they knew that the racing box was the SMG and not the boy racer wanna have a 6 speed manual box...... No Argument.. Full Stop...
I replied to your similar comment on "The BMW E46 M3’s dreaded SMG." Indeed - for those who don't know, some education is in order. That was my intention with the vids I made on the topic.
