i tried to use powermill but was very intimidated...and turned to inventor, even though i will say that powermill is awesome...i will be watching these , every one on powermill for sure...if you decide to start doing powermill, please start at the bottom for us beginners, live axis is awesome and i want to learn it...thank you for your vids, i learn a tremendous amount from them. if i can learn powermill, i will be switching to that from inventor and fusion.. hands down there is no comparison
I use Mastercam X. But need to learn PowerMill for my new job. And this helped. I will watch this video again later. (Girly colours. 😂 - NC Post Processing is all that really matters, the rest is just pretty.👍)
I strongly agree. Why doesn’t Fusion have the Trim toolpath option. It’s extremely annoying when you do all the tricks and there’s still that extra tool move due to a dirty stl.... Please beg them to add Trim toolpath to CAM!
Hi Evan LaCava Thank you for watching! Without knowing for sure. I think some of it comes down to how the code is written. One of the developers one time explained to me that the number one priority for the CAM calculation is to avoid ever gauging the part. So the code is written on the purpose to take extra moves, as long as it assures no gauging. Now for me, coming from other CAM software, that made me totally look at HSM (Fusion) different. Because, from other software, I used to have to edit toolpaths so it did not gauge the part. With that said. It was interesting seeing the speed of toolpath and post generation. Along with ui lockout during generation. Trim toolpath & stock management is absolutely needed in the hsm kernel.

I would love to see how Powermill does with 4 & 5 axis. Catia seemed to have better control in multi axis machining. How does Powermill compare to the CAM's mentioned for 5axis machining?
I learned Mastercam but never send program to machine then I learned Catia and send afew programs to the Machine finally I started powermill and keep going Right now.

All three have Adaptive toolpaths, so that don't help you select😁 Question is what type of parts you do. Inventor HSM and Fusion 360 has identical CAM, but one runs right inside Inventor. Powermill is really good at 5 axis parts, where Fusion 360 and Inventor are more limited but easier to use
your explanation is very good but in 9:16 you missed a very important step which is : after creating a new workplane you have to set it active (by double click on it in the browser) the mistake could cause a disaster because after posting the g-code, you will find that powermill had chosen another work datum

Lars, hello! Could you explain please: why Autodesk closed ArtCAM? And they did not provide any alternatives for that software (When they closed 123D - most of its futures already have been in Fusion, and people move there). But with ArtCAM - in the family of Autodesk software - there is no any program that close to ArtCAM, which could easily works with relief, with 2D &2.5D milling, and with 4x axis rotaring milling (Some of that features available via Fusion360, but honestly Fusion is not for that). I have an opinion that people will go to the your opponents - for example to the Aspire Vectric. The same fate awaits PowerMill and other Delcam programs?

It is important to keep in mind that I am the bust boy in a restaurant, so any comments I make about why and how the foods are prepared should be taken with a grain of salt :-) and that my opinion and comments are my own... My understanding is that at one point Autodesk had well over 200 different pieces of software, all besides a couple, gotten via acquiring companies in the design and manufacturing world. For example Delcam, they had very specific types of software. Some were created for the shoe industry, some for the dental industry, etc. Autodesk has been going through a transformation over the last five years. One that I believe has made Autodesk more cutting edge and being able to lead in design and manufacturing going into the future. In that process, people way above me, AND for sure smarter than me, made the decision that it would be best to narrow down the product catalog to the ones that fit within that new business model. I think this is a lot like what the car industry is going through; does it make sense to maintain and continue to develop over 200 different car models or software packages, or do you figure out which ones are the best and go all in on those? I should also add, that I don't believe for a minute that PowerMill is going anywhere. And that goes for other products, like Inventor, Nettfab, PowerInspect, Modlflow and I could go on. Romeo Nd i think that iartcam gave all that it could. So that is why it closed. Also many makers use old piratian versions like stable 2012-2014 and dont want something better, so artcam not so profit as it was.

Hi - I’d say I’m a competent user of FeatureCAM. Mostly for 3 axis milling and 2 axis turning with live tooling. I’ve recently changed jobs to 5 axis and I’m struggling to do the more advanced tool paths. E.g, kicking the head over 45 to do some internal radius scanning (to prevent less tool deflection). Will you be doing anymore of these videos? Or do you or anyone else know of other TH-cam’s who put a lot of training videos out there for Powermill?

Hi Zaman, hope you don't mind if I jump in to answer your question. In PowerMill the block is one of the main components used to determine the machinable area for any toolpath, so yes you must define a block in order to calculate a toolpath.

Absolute beginner? I remember the first part I made in trade school was a block with 12 5/16-18 holes. It was a 1-2-3 block which I still use for qualifying tools in a CNC mill. Not some silly surface that takes a computer 10 minutes to render 🤦♂️
18:50 better to make a boundary by selecting bottom of block and on limit tab switch the tool center to edge. Deleting toolpath like that is dumb. Best thing is to just use a stock model, way better. I hope your going to fix those leads and links, thats why deleted selected toolpath is dumb, if you recalculate you got to trim again
Well "beginner"? First of all you talk to much in the beginning and thats not intressted. Second No absolute beginner understand anything of your explanations. Third: Why don´t you start from scrach with No object and create one from start to end? Sorry but I didn´t liked this video, gave me nothing. I Just bought PowerMill 2022 for serious CNC milling.
some of the stuff youre doing is actually the wrong way of doing things. please beginners do not follow this or you will be making parts inaccurately . if you follow autodesk tutorials youll have better results or just simply looking up what you need help with on auto desk.

Evgeny Ivakhnik you can trim toolpaths in HSMWorks. But not Inventor HSM / Fusion 360 unfortunately.

Dinesh Kumawat don’t know if you have figured it out yet. But you have to make a hole then use the capping feature on the hole.
@@dubssausage7021 you can create a rest boundary using refrence of last tool by this you will get a boundary on the corners

18:50 better to make a boundary by selecting bottom of block and on limit tab switch the tool center to edge. Deleting toolpath like that is dumb. Best thing is to just use a stock model, way better. I hope your going to fix those leads and links, thats why deleted selected toolpath is dumb, if you recalculate you got to trim again
Well "beginner"? First of all you talk to much in the beginning and thats not intressted. Second No absolute beginner understand anything of your explanations. Third: Why don´t you start from scrach with No object and create one from start to end? Sorry but I didn´t liked this video, gave me nothing. I Just bought PowerMill 2022 for serious CNC milling.

some of the stuff youre doing is actually the wrong way of doing things. please beginners do not follow this or you will be making parts inaccurately . if you follow autodesk tutorials youll have better results or just simply looking up what you need help with on auto desk.
