Looking forward to seeing the process on this for making a through neck guitar. Personally, if it were my guitar, I'd have the top covering it all up. You can admire the neck from the back still without the front being too busy.
I think if you do a ridge or a "split" it would look better as the wider option ie having an extra piece of timber on either side of the neck. Perhaps purple heart to maintain the colors of the neck. It would be more work, but if you had another thin slice of maple either side that would set if off nicely, but then would give the impression of a 13 piece laminate I guess🤔.
I've not done one before and I'm going to have to keep reminding myself that it's the other way round at critical points in the build, like when I cut out the body shape or wire the pots! :)
Nice build to come! I would personally go for a fully jointed top (you still can see the beautiful laminated neck on the back) and a ridge (but not straight, with a slight curve).
Hi Jonathan, why not thin the side pieces so it all a level -laying field then sculpt the shape you desire? The through neck is awesome In my humble opinion. Would make a fantastic guitar. More work I guess?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean but if I understand right, it's because the raised middle section was not the same as the through neck, it was cut out of a part of each of halves of the maple top. Incidentally, the build is progressing but I haven't made more videos - you can see pictures on Instagram, though. It's currently blocked because I ordered inlays but the supplier messed up the order, and they weren't around over Christmas.

I agree with this. That top is gorgeous and heavily figured. having the neck showing through would be way too busy.
Keep going!!! love it

It will be nice to see a left handed build! Mainly because I'm a lefty, there are very very few left handed builds on TH-cam.

@@jonathanoakey4745 I think Ben from Crimson filmed one a long time ago, a les Paul type with figured walnut top.
Nice build to come!

Why don't you run the side pieces thru and planer so they are not as thick as the middle.
