Interesting to see companies producing for .277 Fury / 6.8 whatever they are going to call it. It probably won't be long until someone develops one with the specific barrel length and gas settings to optimize the round for longer range shooting. Even though it seems like most people think the M7 is basically going to be a DMR, the Army seems to see otherwise and might be interested in something that can reach out even further with greater precision in a DMR role.
From what I understand the 6.8 ammo is key ingredient in that weapon, and the 6.8 available to the public isn't going to be the same thing they're running in the military. It being suited for defeating body armor/not available to the public is kind of upsetting. They claim it's forward thinking for battles with China/Russia, but it would also be suitable for dealing with domestic combatants that are geared up.
Love steyr. I have an m95 for a hunting rifle and had an m9a2 for carry. Only reason I got rid of the m9a2 was cuz the sights were just painted instead of night sights. I was heartbroken when I found out the iconic trapezoid sights were useless in the dark
Sig set a new standard of piston driven operating systems along side, spring and buffer in the upper receiver configuration. So there can be a folder stock and still be able to fire. Sweet.
Sig didnt set the standard. Ar18 system been around longer. Buffer tube systems have better recoil characteristics. At the time, there was no reason to prioritize bufferless systems since fighting doctrine had not considered cqb and mobile infantry prioritizing folding stocks. Matter of fact, even now there are few instances where you would need to fire with the stock folded, tbh it’s a gimmick unless you’re ALWAYS going to be engaging from compact positions ( inside a vehicle, etc). Also, if you’re planning on rebutting that the MCXs have a better recoil pattern than a standard AR, no, they dont. The MCX compensates for the lack of a buffer tube with additional weight to manage recoil. Even the MPX(9mm MCX) is heavier than my 16inch DI, that’s ridiculous. The only thing I would like to see on ARs in the newest MCX would be the left-side charging feature, the rear charging handle is definitely an outdated feature on AR15s
@@pablojosediablo A piston driven operating system, with a spring and buffer in the upper receiver? I have not heard of that before Sig. If so, okay. Sig made it popular. 😄
@WaterZer0 In my experience, reliability with the DI gas system (be it under or over gas), weight (my AR-10 is at least 10 pounds without anything on it), physical size (this gun looks significantly smaller than most guns on the market), and I'd assume it'll be more favorable with suppressors without specific modification. To name a few. I'm sure you can find many more out there. It seems like most manufacturers just scale up their AR-15s to .308 and call it a day, so they tend to have these issues. While in this case they spent 2 years dedicated to making a DMR that has similarities but isn't the same as usual AR10s. The folding stock is a great bonus too. With usual AR10s, at best you can get an adapter but you can't shoot while it's folded.
If they need the short barrel to make weight and the buffer system is at the front, I wonder what the balance is like. We'll see when it's out. I wonder if other trigger systems will fit in this one.

Still will get heavy once you start throwing on acogs. Heavy and expemsive. Still impressive. Nice to see a trend for lower weight ar10 for a bit for a while. Gets bigger more capable cartridge into weaker or smaller peoples hands
Thing looks really slick and lightweight
Since Steyr has production facilities in the USA. They can finish the rifle with the 922R parts list to get a tactical rifle into the USA. Otherwise Steyr has to neuter the gun to make it a "sporting" rifle. It's like the problem with the Benelli M-4 shotgun. The Benelli shotgun that is imported to the USA is a "sporting" shotgun. The M-4 that everyone wants is the tactical version. For those that have a "sporting" Benelli M-4 you convert to the full tactical model with the parts made by Freedom Tactical Company. They make all the parts needed to fulfill the requirements of 922R rule of the ATF. You can either install the parts yourself or send your M-4 to Freedom Tactical for installation.
You may not have to do this since Steyr can send partially made rifles to the US as parts kits. And the US facility completes the rifle with the US made parts for final assembly. And yes the ATF is absolutely useless. Definitely wanting to completely disarm all Americans. Not just the criminals. Making policies that have the same impact of felony laws. Only the Congress and Senate can make such laws. Not some bureaucratic agency.
Steyr can take my freaking money. That ticks all the boxes I'm looking for if it runs as advertised.
Tell them we need a 308 aug
An aug with this operating system would be interesting.
Well that's nice of them to bring it to the US market. Usually the cool stuff like the g62 or 300 blk aug they just don't attempt at all.
What are you talking about? The G62 isn't sold anywhere, it's not about bringing it to the US.
Would love to see more Steyr’s in 🇺🇸
That's a very nice looking rifle. 👍🏻
I’m literally waiting to buy this and have been since this video launched.
14” barrel, hopefully they can make different barrel lengths
When I think of a DMR, I usually don't think of it being shorter than a standard 16" rifle.
It has a quick change barrel system so I'm sure there will be a decent selection of barrel lengths.
@@ZRaddue The man from Steyr literally said it is not a quick change barrel system. 3:54
The odd barrel length is probably to make the weight claim.
@@numcapsscroll Sorry, "armorer's" barrel change system. It'll still be quicker and easier than swapping barrels on a traditional AR. They'll definitely have different barrel lengths available though.
What happened the the $1200 B&T 380 pistol? Now it’s listing for $2800!!
It was a joke at $1200 anyway.
Looks like a better option, at least weight-wise, for an M4 replacement compared to the Sig
Really easy to claim when you've never fired the two side by side, much less in combat scenarios.
@@EtherFox but I can look at the weight. The sig is pretty heavy, though that may improve with production versions.
@Dick Izzinya no hate exhibited. The sig is just heavy though that nave change in production.
Dudes. You have the best job in the world. I know you all work your assess off to produce these videos, but damn. What I wouldn’t give to trade places with you for a month. Keep it up. Keep the vids coming. And stay safe out there.
Beautiful rifle!… I so hope we get them in the US
Will they sell spare parts kits??
Great. Now I want German food. Thanks, James
German food? 🤢🤮
That barrel change system looks reminiscent of the LMT MRP.
@@drownthepoor “domestic combatants”.... You mean like us?? 😅
@@_DST0NE_ Correct sir.
Dude! Swing by FN booth and gave us a tour around HiPer.. 🙏🏼
I love it! It also isn’t banned in my assault weapons ban state.
which Fab defense stock is on that?
GL-CORE IMPACT
@@bob-wo3ir I use GL CORES on several builds; but have never seen one with a spring. thanks chief!
Love steyr. I have an m95 for a hunting rifle and had an m9a2 for carry. Only reason I got rid of the m9a2 was cuz the sights were just painted instead of night sights. I was heartbroken when I found out the iconic trapezoid sights were useless in the dark
Gorgeous piece of human ingenuity
That is a VERY COOL Rifle and I would buy ONE I love Steyr Products my AUG has been with me since 2005 and has over 14k thru it without any issues!
Love to see this in 6.8, 6.5 Creedmoor also!!!💖💖💖🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Seeing as it’s made by Steyr they really should try to introduce a modern day bullpup too to play off what they’re most known for
Sig set a new standard of piston driven operating systems along side, spring and buffer in the upper receiver configuration.
@@MrLamont1975 Ever heard of a Kalashnikov??
The trend is the charging handle delete. I like it!
Erwin seems like such a cool guy.
Looks like a good rifle that fixes all the very common issues with current AR10s on the market
What would those issues be?
@@WaterZer0Inconsistency.
@NightHawk114 he doesn't care, ar10 fanboys are the most fanatic fudds out there.
If they need the short barrel to make weight and the buffer system is at the front, I wonder what the balance is like. We'll see when it's out. I wonder if other trigger systems will fit in this one.
A great very interesting video and rifle. As steamy substantial and packed as sauerkraut sausages and schnitzel. That was a great answer about the price:"Decent".Would you prefer this Steyer rifle in Heat or Die Hard? Have a good one.
Just came to say barrel length has little effect on accuracy. You will get more velocity with longer Barrel but not necessarily greater accuracy
I think you should shoot a 10.5 ar15 and a 20 and get back to me
@@TheAnnoyingBoss that’s dependent on velocity, as he said. Within range where velocity doesn’t matter, they have the same accuracy, however the shorter gun has more recoil so it’s harder to follow up.
Looks awesome! You know you're in Europe when you have to look at a gun in a glass case instead of actually handling it.
I mean, ignoring the HS-50 on the table behind it 😂
Yeah, I find it odd that you have a "gun show" where no one can buy your products. (I know this is more govt's looking)
James has to do a review of this rifle
So it's an AR version of a para FAL but accurate af and lightweight. Perfection.
Hmmm sub moa with a 14 barrel....🤔 I'm interested to see just how far it can actually shoot good groups. Don't see too many DMRs with barrels that short. Either way it's a slick rifle.
That's for .277 fury
DMR 1000y and way under needed. + silencer to 20+” barrel,😂 apc/ armoured and some has an RPG size pole in hand’s
