I'm 50. I've been a PC user since day one. I'm a realtor and do a lot of community type videos that I've been editing on CyberDirector. (I came from the Post Production industry. Not specifically an editor, but an assist, so I had some base knowledge of how to work.) Switched to MAC last week, and downloaded FCP. I've watched a few of your videos on learning how to use a MAC. Thank you for that as I was totally lost at first. Then I dove into FCP. I thought I was lost when I turned on the MAC. That was NOTHING compared to how lost I was when I started using FCP. I can not thank you enough for this video. It helped me SO much! Really appreciate you putting this together! You are awesome my friend!

David, thank you so much for this cool video. What is the best way to make your own DVDs on Final Cut Pro with an plug in DVD player. Really need help with that.
One of the very few videos on youtube where the instructor explains things to you from your perspective. So refreshing to listen to someone who can actually teach in a succinct and effective manner. Virtually no fluff. Thanks David, you've saved me weeks.
When I learned that if you skip the ads they get nothing I stopped Skipping ads for you tubers I watch all the time. If you want 30 seconds or until the end of the video, they get the money.
I spent about 40 years working in LA and New York as a Film Editor. I retired finally about 10 years or so ago. I worked on almost every platform from moviolas to kems linear video systems, avid and finally fcp 7. When fcpx came out, It was far less intuitive and I swore I wouldn't learn another. I was finished with the industry and it wasn't fun anymore. I'm not sure if it ever was really fun because I spent a lot of time sitting in a dark room with people who had tremendous egos. I was tired of sitting indoors and swore I would never edit again. So now I'm living in Bali and teaching qigong, yoga, and mobility and I need to promote myself so I'm having to edit again and your tutorial here is great. The program is relatively cheap and powerful. I'm even not skipping the ads, though it's giving me an opportunity to stand up and move around.
I’ve been using FCP for...48 hours. 🙂. I just graduated from iMovie. I’ve started and stopped a dozen TH-cam tutorials in these 48 hours. Yours kept my attention for the entire time, including ads. Super helpful for a novice. Thank you sir.
The fact that this person spent their time, their whole hour and a half to help people they don’t know understand how to use this program is amazing. Listen to Rob parks, don’t skip the ads.
This is absolutely brilliant! Everything you need to start using FCPX and much more too. Stay until the end and see the resources David uses to enhance his films; graphics, plug ins, stills, fonts. An hour and a half well spent. Thank you David!
David A Cox is the undisputed world champion of teaching FCPX! I've been using FCPX for 5 years and I still learned a lot and refreshed what I already knew. If you want to refine your FCPX editing experience I can't recommend any tutorial over this one. As a test of what I'm saying I never clicked skip ads once. This gent should be supported. Thank you, David!
Isn't it ashamed you had to wait until you stopped working your line of work (which should have taught you some of these concepts) and get taught these things instead by someone who never worked in media!! Don't feel bad. Me.......too. I feel your 'pain'. I used to work for both a radio station and a cable company on the West Coast. By contract I / we were forbidden from going near any of the engineers equipment. We weren't even allowed to touch mics once they were placed in front of us. How's that for going back in time?
MY goodness. This is the most practical and comprehensive class that one can take to be able to use FCP. I am very impressed how David is teaching the practical tool that you would use. not to short that will leave out important info and not to long that you would pass out. Kudos to all the good recommendation about the different plug inns too! Training rating: 10/10. This is a wonderful class. I stayed up till 3:30am to watch this and it is worth it! cheers! LOL
I thought a decade or two experience with Adobe Premiere and a number of other products had allowed me to reached the horizon of my abilities, for all practical purposes, until getting a new top-of-the-range MacBookPro and the current offering of Final Cut Pro X - and what made the difference? Well, mainly this hour and a half tutorial. It covers in general terms all of the basics from a hugely complex application. Great! I recommend it.
Can't believe I stuck with it for 95 minutes. Glad I did. Learned a lot... to get me going. Probably will come back to this video again. Thanks for the love David.
I can’t express how much this video has helped me. I’m a “NEW TH-camR” and new video editing. You’re a life saver. I hope my video began to reflect good quality editing show by your tutorial😊
Wow! I just watched the entire tutorial and it was a GREAT use of my quarantine time! Though I have been using Final Cut Pro X for a couple of years now, I have been mother-witting everything, which left me insecure and inefficient. I am happy to learn easier ways to do many of the things I do all the time. I also liked the resources you shared at the end. While I had stumbled upon--and used a few of them before--I see new and more creative ways to use them in our music videos. Thanks, again, for such a valuable resource! :)
I know this is a few years old but I'm about a quarter through and it's been super helpful. For whatever reason I've avoided the longer tutorials due to "time" then ultimately spend 10x that amount of time watching a billion shorter tutorials and so many things just don't click. Just make a pot of coffee and follow along with something a bit more in depth and you'll be happy you did. Thank you!
Standing ovation for David A. Cox! I appreciate you, sir. I viewed every ad as well. You are truly special. Thank you for sharing your time, knowledge and expertise with us. God's continued guidance.
Brilliant .Thank you. As a Media volunteer for a wildlife centre who have just purchased FCP for us this lesson will bring our editing up to scratch .Big learning curve but you lesson was very good. Understand the basics now ,along with pages of notes made . Keep up the good work .
This is great... people are at different points in their FCP life- "you should know this by now". No need to belittle anyone- yes you are a Jedi master- thank you 🙏🏽! This video is amazing!
I'm never touching another Windows computer and I canceled subscription for Adobe and now I've been using FCP for the last year. Thanks for all that you do David!
Hey man! fancy seeing you here hahaha! Just downloaded final cut and on the learning curve. How long you think to get quick enough to pump out daily vlogs?
I'll ask you too mate. What do you think? Do you recommend using the photo app to store all the content or filing it in your own folder setup in finder??
I am a long time FCPX user and though I would go through your class. Just wanted to say you did a greater job. A big thumbs up. So for all of you wondering if this is a good watch, wonder no more. Its worth the 90 minutes. I took away a few golden nuggets. Thank you taking the time to put this together. Have a great day.
David, I am a long-time fan of your generous and insightful youtube tutorials. Your Cape Cod Drone videos inspire me. I plan to start a small local TV news production service based on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I have a AVCHD video equipment with its optimum setting being 1080p/60p but not 4K. The 4K Go Pro Hero 7 promos have impressed me, particularly their new stabilization feature. What concerns me is that the camera saves files to HEVC, H.265 codex in an MP4 container, rather than the standard H.265 which is easier to import to FCPX. Although I prefer the more movie-like pre-4k resolutions (I sometimes shoot in 720/24p), the high def 4K format is gaining popularity and may soon become standard in the future for television news production. Before I lay out money for Hero 7 camera and accessories my Question is: Will I be able to import the Hero7 clips into FCPX without resorting to complicated file conversions? I know you are very busy and am reluctant to take up your time with this question. Any thoughts on this issue will be much appreciated. Thanks, Albert Richard
I used to create a lot of videos using Final Cut Pro. I got older (old) and haven't done any for some years. I want to start creating some videos again.and found I couldn't remember A LOT when it came to editing. Your tutorial has really helped get me back up to speed (and then some). Thank you for your clarity.
Thanks David. I have watched several TH-cam videos on FCP X and find that you do an amazing job on presenting the material in a way that makes it easy to understand for a non-techy person.
I was just gonna write ... catch/eye lights especially with a ring light is just for girls right? Distracting couldnt watch it if it was a long talking head video
This was the best introduction and explanation of "free" and "ads" and "hey please don't" I've heard. Letting those ads play here! Appreciate the content!
I’m a video producer and I just downloaded Final Cut Pro to make commercials for my clients and your video helped me TREMENDOUSLY! Thank you for doing this I know it took a lot of time and attention, and also because you did this I watched every single ad to the end lol.
Speechless ~ thank you for a phenomenal overview of Final Cut Pro. I have divorced myself from the intimidation that paralyzed me from experimenting with this application. High-five and well done!
I was looking on Amazon for a lot of beginners final cut pro videos. I was hesitant on selecting this one it is over a year old and I know Final Cut receives constant updates. But after watching many Poor videos I finally decided to watch this one and I am happy I did. Your video is by far the best for this topic and your website is also a treasure trove. Thanks for the great content
What a very comprehensive and impressive tutorial. Best way to describe it: digital skill acquisition from level zero to level one hundred in 10 seconds. Thanks for the labor of love. This is highly appreciated. Well done.
This is the best tutorial on Final Cut Pro on youtube. You learn it quickly here. David speaks at normal speed and naturally as if he is there with you in person, and with direct, thorough instruction. No teleprompter, no sing-song rhythms, no upward inflections, no slang, no shaved head, no tattoos, and no backwards baseball cap. Unlike the fake teachers, he tells you where to click. I cannot stand those high-speed frauds. No, I don't know him; he's just the king.
This may be the best tutorial I have seen on FCP to date.... and I have seen a few. As an online (skype) piano teacher/mentor with students around the world, I am impressed with your ability to get to, and focus on the specific aspect or aspects of what you are outlining. Clear, concise, and frankly with as few words as necessary. From experience, that is NOT an easy thing to do... and it is easy to get wordy or vier off a bit, as that is human nature. In that context... job well done!! It is a gift that few people possess that do tutorial videos, and you are to be commended. I have only subscribed or commented to 2 channels in my 30 years on TH-cam. This is the 2nd. David, you have my undivided attention and my respect as well... ! Job well done Bravo !
Best FCPX tutorial that I have found and I have watched many. David is not just extremely knowledgeable, he is also a brilliant teacher. Thank you very much for this.
Great class! I left FCP years ago and just purchased FCP X. Wow! What a difference. This class definitely kick started the next chapter of my editing career.
I'm returning to editing after 12 years away from production. My last use was Final Cut Pro 4... The most stunning things are how cheap storage is and how inexpensive blockbuster efx plug ins are... truly stunning.
I've been a professional photographer for decades and now venturing into starting a youtube channel... your advice has been invaluable... thanks you... - larry
It's been about...13 years since I've used Final Cut and I'm back at it today to support my mental health practice's media division. Your tutorial was an amazing review for me. Thank you so much! Stay posted for our new Final Cut edited content @witandreason ;-)
This is such a good tutorial. I've even watched all the ads to ensure David gets the revenue from them, because I'm so grateful! He's very easy to follow and he has a lovely manner.
Absolutely masterful. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise in such an accessible format. Yesterday, I stared at a new, blank FCPx screen. Today, I feel confident to navigate and create. So thanks for making this possible. No spare waffle, no irritating voices or fill-ins, no baseball cap on backwards or weird styling, just solid, interesting and professional guidance to get us started. I'm converting to FCPx from Premier Pro and not regretting it one bit.
best editing tutorial on TH-cam!!! trust me I've watched 99 of them so thankful for this man and the time he dedicated to creating this very meticulous and informative video! he even took the 10 seconds it took to explain the "W" key shortcut when importing videos from his library which he prefaced with having no relevance to what he was doing, that is literally all I wanted to learn how to do!!! thank you, and I will take the time to thoroughly watch the rest of your video for your dedication! P.s. I pay for TH-cam premium otherwise I would have watched the ads for you ;)
No worries... your ads. placement is good: you conclude a section and then place an ad. and that is great. Generally, your ads are not randomly placed within a topic, at a point where one is just about to understand a particular concept and then an ad. shows up, thus distorting the mindset - I am now watching this for the second time with practice this time. Thanks.
As a nearly completely blind individual who's used iMovie for years and has just bought FCP, this video is awesome. I'm going to have to make some content of my own around video editing blind, it's fascinating to both do and think about.
David, as you know I have been a big fan for some time now, and for good reason. You have a way of explaining things so that they make sense and stick for the long term. Having said that I will say that I have watched many of your videos, especially your FCPX tutorials a least 5 times and each time I learn something new, some things I just was not ready to learn until I practiced A, B & C...Then I learned D, E & F...and Now G, H & I...and on and on...Thank you for all you do, your content is and will always be a key tool to my learning process. Keep on doing your thing, I know I am not the only one that appreciates it...
Fabulous tutorial. I just retired an and purchased a MacBook Pro 16 do do family videos that we have recorded over the years. This tutorial was a great jump start into Final Cut Pro. Thanks for putting this together. It was excellent. I will probably watch many more times because it was chock full of content.
Bravo, David! I just purchased the the 2019 27” iMac Pro. Set it up. Downloaded FCP and watched over 50 videos from dozens of different professional YT video editors... While many offered cool tips, not one can compare to your seamless instruction. I am all in. Thank you! I going to purchase the plug-ins you recommended. I want my TH-cam content to be on a whole new level for my genre. Now I’m hoping you have a video on how to split the screen up. I’m going to search through all of them now!
I LOVE YOU, DAVID!!! You have created so many different tutorials that have helped me in so many ways. I am not a “techie”, but I do enjoy technology... and your approach towards teaching truly matches my learning style. Being dyslexic is not easy, but you make it easy to learn. Thanks again!!!
Excellent, thanks so much David. This is the go to video for getting started with FCPX. I didn't skip the ads either, they actually give you a bit of time to digest everything you've just learned.
"Fn + Delete" and "p mode" --> So much pain could have been avoided if I knew these. This is going to upgrade the way I edit video. I, intentionally, jumped into FCPX without any lessons etc. I just wanted to figure it out and grow into the tool. And, yes, it has worked, my video quality is decent. But, I can do better, now, by knowing more. Thank you for this lesson.
All I can type is Thank You Very Very much. You have helped an old granny learn to make movies (channel Grannies on the Grow). My beginning videos are raw and poor but improving every day. The most important role one can have is being a mentor for good. You are that mentor and I for one have been changed for good by your hard work and willingness to share. Thank you.
Darn, you. You not only sold me on FCPX over DaVinci, you also made me very excited for all the great plug-ins. Great job with the course. Love your videos.
God Bless You. this was exactly what i needed. there is people who earns money to teach this class but they dont be able to teach like this. this is the most usefull video on youtube i have ever watched for me.
I'm training for a new job and needed a refresher on Final Cut. I cannot tell you how much this helped and put me at ease! I made sure to watch all of the ads as well. :D Thank you for all of the hard work and care that went into this! You've got a new subscriber.
This class has been incredibly helpful. I came back today to watch one part over again! I watched the commercials again so I hope you get credit. Thank you!!
Hands down the best intro tips video I've seen for final cut, you sir are a teacher at heart. I watched the ads all the way through to make sure you got paid;^) Thanks and keep up the rad work, just ordered a new macbook pro, final cut, and some camera gear in attempt to make my first real videos (the 2010 macbook, imovie, and an old waterproof camera before the gopro came out just ain't cuttin it anymore;^)
Good news - Bad news dilemma. The good part is that I found the time spent watching this video well worthwhile and encouraged me to go ahead and try FCP since I’ve got a new laptop on the way. The bad news is that I’m a TH-cam Premium member and never got to see the commercials so I’ll have to look at the affiliate links to see how I can make up for this shortcoming. I will subscribe of course. Really enjoyed it. Thanks!
That was remarkable! I've been intimidated by FCP for YEARS! (and I consider myself quite a savvy millennial). This was the exact crash course I've been looking for. A huge thank you + subscribed!!
Thank you, this is what I was looking for as a beginner. I have done two examples in a span of 3 days, I think I am now ready to remove the trainig wheels and dive deep into practicing so I can find a workflow that fits me.
The BESTEST (best) FCPX tutorial on TH-cam. David speaks my language, SLOW. Just like me. I'm 71 years old. Thank you, David, FL

lol he has this in his description already
SCRIPTNOW thanks
Thank you!
One of the very few videos on youtube where the instructor explains things to you from your perspective. So refreshing to listen to someone who can actually teach in a succinct and effective manner. Virtually no fluff. Thanks David, you've saved me weeks.
Don’t skip the ads!!! This guys is helping out a LOT of us. Appreciate you, David!
Not skipping the ad does give creator the money, clicking it gives even more.....
Rob Parks I sat thru everyone of them, I want him to earn some money for helping
same with me.
When I learned that if you skip the ads they get nothing I stopped Skipping ads for you tubers I watch all the time. If you want 30 seconds or until the end of the video, they get the money.
Don't skip the ads. Install ad block and not watch a single ad.

The commercials were actually helpful as well!
Great Guy service to others which should all learn by example!!! thanks David!!

This has got to be the only time I've ever NOT skipped the commercials. Just for you, David.

I learned more about FCP from this video than I did from the 500-page tutorial I read on my iPad. Thank you.
Thank you 🙏

they went away after the first time i didnt skip
Best tutorial I've seen so far. Explaining what libraries, events, and projects are at the beginning was extremely useful; nobody else explains that.
Yes. Your are gem of person. and wont be skipping any ad. will be playing again and again for more ads. Thanks a ton. you are superb!

I watched the ads. It's a SMALL, MICROSCOPIC compromise in exchange for all the value this guy brings.
me too
Deactivated adblock for him!
me too! I watched all the ads! the least we can do!
Agree I did the same

This is gold. Thank you for putting out outstanding free content.

thumbs up if you watched all the ads #support
Nature's curse of the puppy-dog eyed male.

I pay for Red, so my kids don't get ad-bombarded, I hope creators still get paid. Can't leave Red.

I got youtube premium no need for ads ..

Standing ovation for David A. Cox! I appreciate you, sir. I viewed every ad as well. You are truly special. Thank you for sharing your time, knowledge and expertise with us. God's continued guidance.

I didn't see any ads, I was gonna watch every single one of them for this amazing and helpful tutorial. Thanks David. Will have to try that ASAP.
Watching every ad. You are awesome! thanks for this.
This is great... people are at different points in their FCP life- "you should know this by now". No need to belittle anyone- yes you are a Jedi master- thank you 🙏🏽! This video is amazing!
Tbh I did skip @2:00 and once you said dont skip the add I won't get paid! 😥 I stop skipping. Watched every single adds. Thank You! ☺️
I'm never touching another Windows computer and I canceled subscription for Adobe and now I've been using FCP for the last year. Thanks for all that you do David!
Wow, amazing tutorial - we'll be sending people here for sure!

fancy seeing you here! haha.
Hey @SoulHugga I'd suggest not using the photo app and to use the same process in this video for storing your files.
Justin Brown - Primal Video not use photo app at all then?
Changing the default media app to finder instead for everything?
I am a long time FCPX user and though I would go through your class. Just wanted to say you did a greater job. A big thumbs up. So for all of you wondering if this is a good watch, wonder no more.
Thank you so much for making this video! I understand way more and it was just so helpful even so many years later!
Thanks David. I have watched several TH-cam videos on FCP X and find that you do an amazing job on presenting the material in a way that makes it easy to understand for a non-techy person.
Why is nobody talking about how beautiful his eyes are!?
euh, what ?
I was just gonna write ... catch/eye lights especially with a ring light is just for girls right? Distracting couldnt watch it if it was a long talking head video
I know right?!
They are STUNNING!!! First thing I noticed!!😂
Mesmerizing...
This was the best introduction and explanation of "free" and "ads" and "hey please don't" I've heard. Letting those ads play here! Appreciate the content!
Great finding out about all the FX resources in the 'Bonus Features' section of your tutorial at 01:06:35. Thanks a million.

I’m a video producer and I just downloaded Final Cut Pro to make commercials for my clients and your video helped me TREMENDOUSLY! Thank you for doing this I know it took a lot of time and attention, and also because you did this I watched every single ad to the end lol.
Thank you so much for this class, it was so clear & also you made it very interesting! Watched all the ads and subscribed, you're awesome!
Speechless ~ thank you for a phenomenal overview of Final Cut Pro. I have divorced myself from the intimidation that paralyzed me from experimenting with this application. High-five and well done!
This video has taught me so much! thank you for this
I was looking on Amazon for a lot of beginners final cut pro videos. I was hesitant on selecting this one it is over a year old and I know Final Cut receives constant updates. But after watching many Poor videos I finally decided to watch this one and I am happy I did. Your video is by far the best for this topic and your website is also a treasure trove. Thanks for the great content
Thank you for this class! It was very helpful for me, as I am hoping to transition from editing in iMovie to Final Cut Pro!
Teacher! You rock! Thanks much

What a very comprehensive and impressive tutorial. Best way to describe it: digital skill acquisition from level zero to level one hundred in 10 seconds. Thanks for the labor of love. This is highly appreciated. Well done.
timing of ads is bit jumbled up David!
Oh man you're here lol, I know its 2yr old but still you only have 10 likes.
No, I don't know him; he's just the king.
lmfaoooooooooooo yo
I got lost in your eyes, and thank you for this amazing content:)
Please make an updated adobe photoshop tutorial
A very good instructor…. Clear and precise in his tutelage…. It is like a one stop for all you need to know.
Your eyes are mesmerizing😍
Best FCPX tutorial that I have found and I have watched many. David is not just extremely knowledgeable, he is also a brilliant teacher. Thank you very much for this.
Thank you very much! :)
Great class! I left FCP years ago and just purchased FCP X. Wow! What a difference. This class definitely kick started the next chapter of my editing career.
lol at the sad face

I'm returning to editing after 12 years away from production. My last use was Final Cut Pro 4... The most stunning things are how cheap storage is and how inexpensive blockbuster efx plug ins are... truly stunning.
A very good man, your English is easy to understand
Fantastic content! Started video editing right away! Don't skip the ads, it's a small price to pay for such great class!
Thank you to spend your time to teach us. You explain slowly and easy way to do. It's very useful.
Wish you have a good luck 🙏🏼
I've been a professional photographer for decades and now venturing into starting a youtube channel... your advice has been invaluable... thanks you... - larry
It's been about...13 years since I've used Final Cut and I'm back at it today to support my mental health practice's media division. Your tutorial was an amazing review for me. Thank you so much! Stay posted for our new Final Cut edited content @witandreason ;-)
Definitely not skipping ads. You deserve to get paid for all that you offer.
P.s. I pay for TH-cam premium otherwise I would have watched the ads for you ;)
I don't mind the ads in this case. And, I don't mind you getting your fee from the ads. You're offering a great service.
This is the only video on TH-cam that I have ever watched from start to finish. I learned so much! Thank you!
Hey David. Thanks a lot for this class. Sending you blessings. Searched a lot on youtube and finally found your class to be the best.
I must say, I have been watching your video for years now. You are awesome. I have learned so much!! Thanks, David...keep it up!
Wonderful, wonderful tutorial!! First time I have ever not skipped adds because David truly deserves any assistance available. Thank you.
300 ads? No problem, I will watch them all. Thank you brother. May God bless you in many ways.
Thank you!!
Sooo helpful, and if watching a tiny ad makes this valuable training free! So worth it! I watched them
Hands down the best intro tips video I've seen for final cut, you sir are a teacher at heart.
Thanks!
Ive watched a lot of ProCut tutorials as I'm new to it and this is by far the clearest and most helpful to a beginner, thanks so much
Clear, concise, no-nonsense tutorial. Really superb...5-star.
That was remarkable! I've been intimidated by FCP for YEARS! (and I consider myself quite a savvy millennial). This was the exact crash course I've been looking for. A huge thank you + subscribed!!
I am very new to final cut but I somehow I found this guy, and he does a stupendous job! Exactly what I was looking for! I’m all I with this guy.
Thank you, this is what I was looking for as a beginner. I have done two examples in a span of 3 days, I think I am now ready to remove the trainig wheels and dive deep into practicing so I can find a workflow that fits me.
Thanks David. Much needed. You skipped over one element of the Transition that I have been having problems with but all else is very educational.
