I’m new to editing. I watched several videos for beginners for Final Cut and this is the best I’ve watched; careful and detailed explanations, clear and precise demonstrations. Whether you’re new to Final Cut or looking for additional techniques this is the video of choice.
A 50 minute video lesson turned into 2 hours of learning. I have been using iMovie for years and have done well with it. I have had FCP for a year and now have the time to start to learn it. FCP has a learning curve and your video helped tremendously. Thank you. Glad I can watch on my iPad Pro and edit on the Mac. Top tip for anyone else doing this. Allowed me to watch pause and edit.
Explained topically, systematically and incrementally better than ANY FCPX tutorial I have seen - and I have seen dozens. "line upon line; precept upon precept." Great care was taken to direct the viewer through each step, applying a clean slate as he moved through different skill sets. Without question I will pursue more teaching from this man.
Me and my son have been using final cut for quite a few years now but I’m still watching and will have him watch. A lot of little things you don’t think about are nice to be reminded of.
Even though I've been using FCPX for more than ten years I did learn quite a few new tricks from this film. It's one of the clearest and simplest guides I have seen on youtube for editing with FCPX. Very well done!!
I have been editing for over 10 years with Final Cut and have always used your tutorials, I decided to watch your one hour preview of your "Learn Final Cut in 60 Min" there is always something to learn and I did. Thanks you guys make learning fun and enjoyable.
Bravo! A few minutes ago I cancelled my subscription to a skill sharing website because they failed to deliver anything comparable to this free class and the full tutorial you also offer. The distinction is quality, course planning, preparation, delivery, and pacing. You have it, they don't. You supply the course materials so I can follow along. Of course! My only suggestion - to students - is to try to have a dual monitor configuration when you take the course. That way, you can pause and try something, then continue. Or back up and review what was missed. A tiny bit about me. I'm pretty familiar with Pinnacle Studio Ultimate on Windows but am entirely new to Final Cut Pro and the Mac OS. So, in my case, I know what needs to be done, I just don't know how to do it with Mac OS and Final Cut Pro. Especially the keyboard shortcuts which are so much more important in Final Cut Pro. Thanks for the excellent tutorial.
I am a complete newbie to video and video editing. I have been scouring the web watching all sorts of "getting started" content. This tutorial is awesome. The style and delivery are perfect - so much better than going through tools one at a time. The "follow along" presentation really got me involved and learning. I'm heading over to the website to sign up for core training. Thanks.
Thank you for this concise and well-developed tutorial. While I’ve owned FCPX for a few years, I never felt like I was learning a good workflow for video production with it. This has been the BEST hour of training that I’ve ever had. I look forward to applying these skills to future projects. Now looking into your Motion tutorials to learn how to use that application effectively. Thank you very much!
A well-produced tutorial like this will go a long way towards helping adopt new users to the software. I hope to see lots of new FCP user's awesome work in the future!
"Because I'm old school, I prefer hiding [jump cuts]." I knew there was something I liked about you! This was my first FCP tutorial and I'm glad I found it. This was very helpful and I will go to you first if I need more instruction. Also, I like that your cover images for your videos aren't those "dopey face" ones, which was another reason I chose yours first.
Just purchased this tutorial, I checked, this is the 21st tutorial I've purchased from you guys, and one of the best yet! (my favorite is still The Cupcake Tutorial), I think I purchased my first from you guys in or around 2014 and since then have successfully edited more than 50 professional projects, but like you said there are a lot of little tricks & tips that make it well worth while to spend the time going through the lessons. Thanks as always Steve, this is another great tutorial.!
Great video.... I am a recent FCP user but have used several software products on Windows years ago. I started with iMovie and thought I would jump into a full featured product like FCP. Basic controls were easy to figure out based on prior experience but this Video really help wet my appetite for more... Thank you very much. I will examine more of your online contributions and will consider your online classes.
I want to thank you for posting this video. I had a video production class that demanded students to learn final cut pro. Your tutorial was very helpful and clear to understand. Unlike most Final cut tutorials you did not rush through it and somehow you knew what a beginner like myself needed to use effectively. I received a high grade in my College Level Video production class because I studied your video extensively. Thank You.
just downloaded final cut today, and after messing around with it for couple of hours a friend sent me this video and it solved all my problems and got me feeling comfortable with the softwear. thanks a lot!
however, I got stuck in one thing and would like to ask a question- after creating my multitrack single file, I accidently double clicked it and "opened" all the files inside, and now I cant seem to "close" it and continue editing the multicam file. What can I do? where can I find the anser for this? Thanks a lot
I have been using FCP without understand the basics. I can do some simple editing but the process was frustrating and not efficient. After watching your video, everything comes together. Thank you so much.
I am relatively new into FCP, but have been using iMovie for 20 years. I upgraded due to the power of the program and the power of my newish MacBook Pro. I have not been using FCP just because I didn't understand it as well as iMovie and seems way more complicated. This is a GREAT overview on how to use the program simply and got me over the hump to using FCP full-time. Thank you!!
Talk about a blast from the past. Looks like Steve has more grey in his beard and Ive less hair on my head. I used to watch Steve and his buddy(name slips my mind) way back in 2006 till around 2010. the tutorials on both Motion and FCP pre-X they produced were amazing and very entertaining to boot. Ive long since retired doing mainly photography, but my new SonyA7R5 with its 10bit Slog video have lured me back in. Hence my need to seek help and assistance from Steve and ripple training to update my Final Cut skills..
So glad I found this tutorial as I'm an old fart trying to get started with FCP and your information is very clear and easy to follow. Going to look into your course now.
Many thanks for making this available. I hadn't used FCP for several years and had pretty much forgotten evrything I once knew. This video jogged my memory and brought me right up to date with everything. Much appreciated!
Hello from a complete newbie - never used any editing software before. Out of all the free "tutorial" videos I have seen about using the basics of FCP...YOU WERE THE BEST! IT WAS THE EASIEST AND MOST METHODICAL! You took the time not only with the process...you named the different tools with explanations and you gave the shortcuts for them as well. YOU HAVE ALLEVIATED ALL MY BUILT UP ANXIETY! I will be signing up for your course(s). Thank you so, So, SO much Much love from Trinidad, West Indies
My first go with Ripple training. Fantastic value for a free tutorial. Easy to follow for a beginner to FCP. And,- of course I bought the 7 Hour FCP Core Training with 20% discount. I really look forward to do the Core Training now. Thanks!
Steve, I think this is a great idea! Often i try to share ripple training vids in user forums and I’ve often looked for the best options for people who are just starting. This would give them a good start AND show them how great ripple training vids are!
That was excellent. I am an advanced beginner, and there was loads of useful process info in here. The sense of overview was very good and will allow me to then take a deep dive into topics this does not cover.
I've just downloaded the trial version of FCP and am brand new to it. Of the videos that I have watched so far on TH-cam, this tutorial is by far the easiest to follow and full of great tips and techniques. I am looking for to getting stuck in!
I just started delving into FCPx in this last year as a hobby and have been watching lots of YT videos and this is, by far, the video I've gotten the most out of. So much so, I went ahead and bought the essentials training. Thanks for the free content!
Steve is an awesome teacher! I spent the last month searching everywhere for a good Final Cut Pro course, even considering community college. But Steve's clear explanations and engaging teaching style immediately won me over. I bought his core training and can't wait to dive into color grading once I'm finished!
Hello Steve, Your training video taught me FCP 10.0 many moons ago. I've recently returned to FCPX and this video helped me get back to speed. Many thanks for all you do.
I'm new to imac and final cut pro and this video is by far the best way of learning for me. You explain it very well and it's not rushed. Not once did I have to pause and go back. Looking forward to watching more
I’m glad I came across your tutorial. There are many on TH-cam, but you showed some valuable editing points, things I never would have found otherwise. I’m one for perfection and precise detail when it comes to editing, including audio editing. Spot on. Thank you.

WOW- BEST tutorial I have seen and such a HUGE help! I have been trying to use FCP for a while and picking up tips, lessons other videos but this was absolutely above everything I've seen! His direction is exact, well explained, easy tyo follow (as easy as FCP can be). I can now edit! Can't wait to take the full course. Raving fan. FYI I have a channel with 3000+ subs, and a full time editor and now I can actually infuse my videos with my vision because i know how it works! Yay!
I just bought Final Cut for my MacBook and this was very helpful. I have been using InShot on my phone since I started my channel. it’s okay for what I was doing, but it’s time to step up my content. Thank you for this awesome tutorial!
Thank you so much Steve. I only use FCP to do the odd movie of my boys. Been away for a while and as they are young adults now, I am thinking of tackling the enormous task of going through 30 years of video and photos and creating 4-5 min. vids. Your generosity of providing these tutorials, helps to motivate and make the creation process much more enjoyable. Your efforts really do make a difference.
This is just brilliant, and proves to me just how much time and angst I had wasted on Premiere Pro. Fed up with the zillions of PP menus, I kept secretly sneaking back to iMovie for simple edits and watching this and following along has sold me on moving fully to FCP (and eschewing any Avid alternative). Thanks so much from London, England!
Really enjoyed the tutorial, probably spent around 4-5 hrs working on it. Also, while working on the starting portion of the video, I learnt that if 2 clips are very similar, just copying colour values works better than the fancy 'match colour' option
It’s amazing I really appreciate it. I’m going to buy the whole course. Cause this video gave me a clue if I get this much knowledge, knowing that I am a complete beginner for video editing whatsoever, the whole course will definitely make me a pro. Thanks again.
Final Cut Pro, for me, has always been like MS Word - Word will do 10,000 things but I only use it to write letters. I so appreciate your content and plan to purchase your 7-hour course. Thanks again for this tutorial! Jim
Really a fantastic tutorial from beginning to end. I appreciate your time and effort making this. Learnt a lot from this. Thank you so much and keep creating. 👍
Great video! I am not a newbie to fcp , but I still learned several very cool things about fcp, like the "active clip indicator"..... Thanks for your time making this vid.
Just started using the software, thank you for this - will be following you and yes I will send some $ (just have to get some more $ after the software purchase) - good work, thank you.
That was great, though I wouldn't expect anything less from Steve. Right to the point. My way of evaluating such content is....would I now be able to go off and do what he has just shown me? The answer in this case is yes. It's all about empowerment, and I feel in relation to FCPX empowered. I just need to get to grips with using Luts as I plan to shoot in Slog3. Thanks again Steve. It's like meeting an old friend after many years....thirteen to be exact.
Final Cut Pro and have really appreciated this training video. I was buzzing along until 10 minutes left of training and Final Cut Pro quite unexpectedly. I chose "reopen" and everything was gone. Trying to work out if the project was saved or should I have chosen to save somewhere. Not a great introduction to using FCP! And so glad it happened in training and not my own first project!
Nothing is gone - just open the library I had you create - locate it where you save a it and double-click. Btw, you never have to save in FCP it’s a dynamic database that updates in real time
Subscribed, thanks so much for taking the time and sharing all these tips and tricks. Much appreciated, now I feel like I’m ready to jump into this app
Thank you Steve. This is the most sensible FCP training that I ever viewed. Bonus is that it was done in under 60 minutes and it covers almost everything. Though I need to pause and go back in some parts.
I've watched a couple of videos on final cut pro. And so far this is by far the most comprehensive showing how to use the most important tools. Thanks so much !! New subscriber !!
Garry Huges said it all. I so appreciate this video that I am considering downloading the whole hour. Those custom tabs on the playback can then be used as a quick reference when I need it in a hurry. In your training, do you have a Go Pro Hero 360 video that can be edited in Final Cut Pro? If anyone can do this, it will be your team.
Just finished the whole video today this morning! That was refreshing! Didn’t touch Final Cut Pro for almost a year ! But ! Had to watch other ripple training classes about color correction “ davinci resolve “ to practice. Steve and Martin are my legends ❤️
Steve, it's been several years since I've worked with Final Cut & Motion. This was a GREAT recap to get me back into the swing of things. Great overview!
Thank you so much for this awesome video. I am just getting into editing and I made the mistake of buying a course on Udemy. Thank god it was only $12.99 but the instructor was crazy terrible that I got a refund. So thank you for making it CRYSTAL clear with all the tips, tricks, and all the explanations were super thought out on your part. Thanks 🙂
I bought the course on Udemy too. Things are pretty easy to follow at first but when it goes to the mini challenge, I was completely stuck. I rewatch the video so many times but still couldn't make it. Now I feel so thankful for watching this video. It definitely saves my FCP learning journey.
Great video! I'm coming from imovie to final cut. How do I keep the playhead from jumping to where I stop playback. I want it to start from the same place over and over again for editing. Must be a preference somewhere! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this! I feel confident about getting started with video projects! You made it so easy to follow along and I'm sure I'll be referencing this video again and again for reminders as a newbie! I appreciated you including different ways of doing things, from clicks to keyboard shortcuts.
This is great. Is there a forum that’s not necessarily Apple ? One like Logic Pro help ….its great to have as many resources as possible . Nothing wrong with apple community but it’s not as quick in getting responses …thank you very much !
Hmm, now I'm thinking the anamorphic adaptor company is sponsoring you. Which is brilliant! While we are forced to watch an ad over and over as 'instruction' their product is shown again and again. I'm not knocking it, I love it. It is so brilliant really. If this is not the case, then you missed a big opportunity. I'm hoping for brilliance.
Wow! Thanks guys. I learned so much - mostly with the shortcuts - but also many of the other tips & tricks! I suspect I'll be back to watch this again :)
I’m new to editing. I watched several videos for beginners for Final Cut and this is the best I’ve watched; careful and detailed explanations, clear and precise demonstrations. Whether you’re new to Final Cut or looking for additional techniques this is the video of choice.

Amazing. Went from zero to average! This is a great starter tutorial. Thanks for the help.

Yes! These guys do it right.

It really is possible to learn (& understand) Final Cut in an hour. Incredible! Hands-down one of the best tutorials of its kind.
thank you kindly.

Thanks Robert 🙏🏻 keep us updated on your progress!

Thank you so much Steve. I only use FCP to do the odd movie of my boys. Your generosity of providing these tutorials, helps to motivate and make the creation process much more enjoyable. Your efforts really do make a difference.
I think that this may be the best training video I have ever done on any software. The trainer is an absolutely gifted communicator.
Awesome video. Especially loved the beat editing tip and colour correction sections. Thanks!
A masterful production - clearly and succinctly presented with amazing attention to detail. Thank you Steve! ⭐️👍
Thank you John!
Great lesson. Very clear professional description. Never seen an explanation like this before. Heartfelt thanks. And all the best in your endeavours
Tamilnadu from india...
Steve...thank you so much for producing this video. I'm just getting started in FCP and your material was immensely helpful!
Thanks Steve, this is an excellent introduction to FCP. Just what I needed to get started.
Great idea Steve, going to show this to my sister who is just starting; the previous Ripple Training I own was too deep dive for her to start.
This should be perfect for her -
This is a fantastic video, your way in illustrating is so easy and thanks for the materials that helped me a lot.

Glad you found us !
This channel is a goldmine for FCP and Apple Motion tutorials. So many quality tutorials. Thank you so much for making these. Subbed! :)
Really a fantastic tutorial from beginning to end. I appreciate your time and effort making this. Learnt a lot from this. Thank you so much and keep creating. 👍
Amazing that you took the time to make this video. If the world had more folks like you, we’d be in a much better place. Thank You!!!!
Great video!
I am not a newbie to fcp , but I still learned several very cool things about fcp, like the "active clip indicator".....
Thanks for your time making this vid.
Great Work Steve! Even after using FCP for a few years, I still picked up some new tricks!
Thanks Robert!
Just started using the software, thank you for this - will be following you and yes I will send some $ (just have to get some more $ after the software purchase) - good work, thank you.
This video is absolute class man! Thanks for taking th me time to make this! I’m a total noob to video from photography
That was great, though I wouldn't expect anything less from Steve. Right to the point. My way of evaluating such content is....would I now be able to go off and do what he has just shown me? THANK YOU. This was SUCH a good training video. You've got a dedicated follower and subscriber for all my future needs!
Thanks so much! This is going to help a lot of people.

I haven't even watched it yet but I've given it a thumbs UP! Your reputation far preceeds you.
Subscribed, thanks so much for taking the time and sharing all these tips and tricks. Much appreciated, now I feel like I’m ready to jump into this app
This tutorial was so good. Thank you so much! It covers the basics with perfect examples and important tips. Thank you very much 💙
One of the best ever tutorials. Many thanks!
As always I learn so much from you guys. And I work with FCPX every day! Thanks. For making a difference.
Thank you Steve. This is the most sensible FCP training that I ever viewed. Bonus is that it was done in under 60 minutes and it covers almost everything. Though I need to pause and go back in some parts.
Gr8 help. Thank you for such an amazing tutorial. Keep up the awesome work.
I've watched a couple of videos on final cut pro. And so far this is by far the most comprehensive showing how to use the most important tools. Thanks so much !! New subscriber !!
New to Apple. New to FCP. This is awesome, thanks.
Excellent and in my opinion very generous of Ripple Training!
Excellent! yours is the only tutorial that I have discovered that truly shows the step by step actions required to begin editing. Thank you!
What a fantastic video! Informative, succinct, and relevant. Well done!!
Thank you! Very cool tutorial! This is exactly what beginners need in one lesson.
This is so helpful for beginners like myself. Thank you
Excellent tutorial - thank you! I just purchased your Final Cut Pro 10.6 Core Training. 😊
And this is for free ! wow Steve ! Thank you sir .
How do I keep the
playhead from jumping to where I stop playback. I want it to start from
the same place over and over again for editing. Must be a preference
somewhere! Thanks!
Terrific job! Very clear, flowed well, excellent content and examples. I definitely learned some good shortcuts, flow and techniques.
Fantastic Steve! I enjoyed the my first tutorial. I'm glad you touched on color grading basic, that was really helpful.
Awesome tutorial !! Well paced and made it look so easy !! You are the best !!
🙏🏻
This is absolutely brilliantly put together. Your a great teacher, thankyou
What an excellent video. Thank you so much 👌👌👌
Thank you so much for this! I feel confident about getting started with video projects! You made it so easy to follow along and I'm sure I'll be referencing this video again and again for reminders as a newbie! I appreciated you including different ways of doing things, from clicks to keyboard shortcuts.
thank you very much. Much Respect for your work and teaching.
Definitely to be watched again and again for beginners. Lot's of great short cuts too. Thanks!
Absolutely brilliant tutorial ... many thanks
This is great. Is there a forum that’s not necessarily Apple ?
One like Logic Pro help ….its great to have as many resources as possible . Nothing wrong with apple community but it’s not as quick in getting responses …thank you very much !
Great tutorial!! Easy to follow and great information to follow.
Naw - I just bought it cause it looked interesting. I have no relationship with the company
@@rippleguys Oh well, we can hope for brilliance next go around :)
Wow! Thanks guys. I learned so much - mostly with the shortcuts - but also many of the other tips & tricks! I suspect I'll be back to watch this again :)
Excellent clear and concise for a newbie like me. Subscribed.
thank you! I'm a Movavi user on my PC and I was lost on my macbook with final cut. I'll be an expert soon!
