      Okay.
      My question is...for the gamer on a budget. Getting a Raspberry Pie is nearly impossible in my area because everyone wants 500 bucks for them or more, the PS classic has all of a sudden gone insane in price.
      This seems to be the only decent option left that would be in the $70-120 range.
      But....as you have pointed out, these have their issues. So how does one go about cleaning up duplicate games/adding missing games back in and making it run a little better?

    The fact that cheap systems are selling shows there is a market for them. It seems it would be relatively easy for someone (with the know-how) to develop a high quality system and dominate the market.

      They would then be sued into oblivion. Part of why these things are able to sell is because the companies are fly by night shell companies. The minute that there was an organized well built option the lawyers will be on top of them.

      Let's be fair and real here, as someone who has seen many rom dump compilations, most duplicates are not actually duplicates they are different regions of the games and revisions with bug fixes or patches. Very very rarely will there be two or more of the same game revision, same region (actually a duplicate) in any set.

      They don't try too hard, and you should never expect them too. We're talking about Chinese consoles here, not western or Japanese consoles.
      This thing actually looks pretty dang good considering it's a Chinese console though. It runs almost everything pretty well, and can even run Dreamcast games. You can clean those game lists up yourself. Any game that doesn't run well you might be able to improve by changing some settings. It might be a bit of a long shot, but it's worth a try. Anything that doesn't work at all may very well be due to a bad rom, iso or whatever, so you could try replacing it with one you know is good and see if it runs. Honestly, this console seems like an okay option to me, although not by any means a great one. It's biggest problem is the price. You can get something even better for a lot cheaper. But if they were to drop that price down to about 60 or 70 bucks (probably not gonna happen), then it would be a much more appealing opinion. It still wouldn't be the *best* option, but it'd be a pretty decent one for sure.

    You're right, video guy, the number of games tend to run in X2 to X4 duplicates for most consoles. I've been telling people this for around 8-12 years and "finally" people are catching up. This menu is VERY lazy compared to some. But there are "two" types of duplicates, there are "category" duplicates and there are duplicates like putting the same game on different consoles which are (in fact) two different games between consoles but they're giving you the same experience, just using two consoles to do it.
    It's a waste of money, the processors are almost "always" a little below par specs because they try to put games over the set level of CPU power they need.

  • @Dozenfury88
    @Dozenfury88 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    With these you're basically paying for the labor to have the emulators pre-setup. And there's nothing wrong with that, time is money after all. They can take quite a bit of time to get setup and get configured properly, so it's great to have an option like this where it's ready to go for those that prefer that. But there's nothing special about the hardware, you can do the same with a RaspPi, old console, old PC, etc. The security concerns with these types of pre-built boxes would push me to one of those other alternatives, or if you opt for one you might want to stick it on a more limited IoT LAN.

  • @bdhale34
    @bdhale34 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Would be willing to wager that the "duplicates" are different versions both revision and region. Some titles have 4 or 5 different versions of the same game that got released not even counting the regional versions.

    I bought a used Wii system at a yard sale last year, that included a small external hard drive. When I got home and turned it on, it had every game emulator listed on the screen up to Gamecube. It has something like 50,000 games on it I believe, including virtually every game for every system up to Gamecube, and then for Dreamcast, older PC games, Atari 400/800, C64 etc. only a few for each. I was surprised at how well the Wii system ran the emulators, the only issues I've really had were with a few N64 games, like Conquers Bad Fur Day which tends to lag at points and always crashes. All Gamecube games work great. My main issue is with the controller. Some games you can play and some I guess need some sort of adapter to use a different controller, I'm not sure. Whenever I play MAME games, hitting one of the action buttons also brings up the main volume control, which makes using MAME impossible. I'm still happy that I can play everything else though, and basically for nothing, since I only paid $20 for the entire Wii setup.

I've had the same issues with the same kind of games with the same kind of emulators on a multitude of different processors with more powerful iGPUs. I wish they would create a version that has windows running in the background instead, as there are just much better emulators available for that OS.

Some games don't support certain video types and you get those "glitches" and "messed up backgrounds" the video mode is key. That's why I build my own emulators, I can assure there's multiple video resolutions. Racing games are some of the worst about this! Also what type of sound the games uses also causes issues for emulators as well.

      Of the dedication Jotego cores for example, you can get to the boards dips through the mister menu. The same can be done for uniBios with NeoGeo MVS to switch stuff like credits and regions. Unfortunately though it depends largely on the core you’re using, but in most cases dipswitching is in there.

      You could pick up a used Thin client with a Ryzen 3200GE for under $200 with a 128GB ssd and 8GB of ram that would stomp all over the MiSTER. It won't be as accurate but it will also emulate far more systems and as a bonus it is a real x86/x64 PC that can do whatever a PC can do.

    I’ve been a fan of video games since my very first console a Super Nintendo I got in 1994. My absolute favorite games are the original Mortal Kombat games 1, 2, 3, UMK3, MK Trilogy, and MK4. Do you know the best way for me to get to play the best quality versions of these classics? Preferably the Arcade versions or PlayStation versions because the graphics and sounds were best. I also love the Midway arcade classics “NBA Jam,” and “WWF Wrestlemania The Arcade Game.” I don’t know anything about computers to make my own setup or anything and prefer not to pay for a console that has thousands of games I will never play. How could I get a hold of these games to enjoy at home? Any suggestions? Easiest way possible is preferred. Thank you!

    I bought a preloaded rasberry pi 3b plus from a website a few years ago they came with the same PS2 knock off controllers it ran on retro pie. Worked for a couple of years. Some games simply wouldn't boot. The thing was very fragile and one day my system fell less than two feet to the ground and stopped working so i chucked it in the garbage. Some arcade games i wanted to play worked on it. Im in the market for a preloaded rasberry pi again and will wait for a trusted seller to have them back in stock.

      Just get a legends ultimate arcade for ~$600. Then you can download an SD card image and flash it with your PC. Takes a few hours for it to complete and you have EVERYTHING, plus a decent piece of arcade hardware that won't impress the purists. I own one of those in addition to a couple "pure" arcade machines.

    I have been spending many hours of many days sifting through rom's for the Steam Deck and removing duplicates and language versions that are simply not required. Favouring the US versions of games (for frame rates) unless of course it was only released in Europe then include that version. Still doing it and its a process worth doing for a real clean list.

    I LOVE those little devices. Specially the ones with a nice retro styled shell. Since I mostly care about 8 bit and 16 bit there are rarely significant performance issues.
    My main issue about them are the rom selections. It really seems like they just download and paste whatever they find. So the little time I have to invest in them is fixing some folders.

      Got a super Nintendo gifted to me after a bad accident as a kid that meant I couldn't risk random falls and whatnot and had to just be super chill for about a year and that was one of the games I got with it.
