I share my 5-day fasting experience this week! Make sure to stay tuned. If you want to learn more about the Fasting Method, you can find more here: www.thefastingmethod.com/
I follow Megan for many years. I started keto and fasting for weight loss. Today I'm carnivore and I love it. But my n=1 is that TRE and extended fasts brought me to my goals 10x faster or helped to move the needle when carnivore couldn't. She is so knowledgeable alongside with Jason Fung and I recommend her insights to everyone.
I'm 73 and feel broken. Since 2019 I've tried keto and carnivore. I've started 80/20 eating, checking blood glucose and ketone. No carbs. Fasting is key. 11 days and I am finally losing weight. Fasting glucose so much better. Ketosis everyday.
You will win, keep moving forward. I am 72. Still have areas needing healing. Started Carnivore in January 2021, along with OMAD and IF. Still have more weight to lose. Thinking of getting a CGM to get more answers.
I can relate to the comment about the c-section scar diminishing. I'm 56, have had 2C sections, my youngest child is 16. Every year in the heat of the summer in South Carolina my scar would become red and almost feel like it was going to start bleeding again. Have been carnivore for 2 years and been doing time restricted eating/intermittent fasting as well. My scar no longer gets inflamed in the summer and is less noticeable. I think it's the fasting that has mostly helped the scar heal.
Judy I really appreciate this interview. I’ve followed Megan a long time and find fasting works really well for me for great digestion, healing, and weight maintenance. The questions are great and the time stamps are really detailed and helpful. I’ve got caught up too many times in other peoples dogma too many times and tired dropping fasting under recommendations in zero carb groups and quickly gained weight and not felt as good. We are all different and it’s so important to gather info and find what works best for us!
Love your shows Judy, I was looking around this specific question. I am eating 4 days a week, fasting water only with electrolytes three days a week! I am dropping weight at an amazing speed, there will be point where I have to stop. I am 5-11 and weigh 170 and loosing 3-5 lbs week.
Hi, I was listening to Dr Boz, and she talks about resetting your insulin resistance and using 72 hour fasting to achieve this. So I am new to this and not really knowing the affect of this much fasting on my body, so I am having shorter fast 36-48 hours between my 72 - 120 hour fasts. Is this ok? Insights appreciated, thanks you.
I did a lot of OMADs and 18:6 fasting windows last fall and lost weight so easily. Now I haven't any lost weight in MONTHS so I'm reintroducing fasting to break the stall. I'm excited to add a 48 hour fast each week in the month of July to see if I can finally start losing weight again.
Great interview, thanks for having Megan on! I've followed her for years. Dr. Fung changed my life more than anyone, although Drs Berry and Baker followed suit afterwards. When I started following Dr. Fung and fasting, I was over 170 lbs heavier than I am now. Fasting really helped me in myriad ways.... My markers are great, I hit my goals and I've been maintaining for quite some time. I've been OMAD carnivore for almost 4 years now and that really works for me. But, when I eat my one meal, I really throw down and consume fatty meat. I don't drink anything for at least an hour before or 30 minutes after the meal so I don't have any problem getting in enough food. I typically do a 48 hour fast every week and a 5 day once every three months. Right now though, I have a friend who asked me to help him do 30 days of ADF so I'm over halfway through that. Refeeding for me is much harder than fasting, especially after 5 days. I struggle motivating myself to eat then. But, consume a little bone broth while I cook for my family to prime myself. After an hour or so, my body decides it is ready for food. I love eggs but my refeeding meals don't ever have eggs or pork. Everyone may be different but those don't work for me at that time, at all... Not good... 😂 Other than during refeeds, they are ok.
This is a great interview. Thank you Judy! I'm listening again because maybe I missed it but did I had a couple questions and not sure if Megan touched on it. 1. Do we need to worry about electrolytes during a fast? 2. And tips for sleeping better when doing extended fasts? 3. Is black coffee acceptable? ( God I hate black coffee but black is better than withdrawal)
Generally people that are in a ketogenic diet and do some limited fasts don't have to worry a lot about electrolytes, but if you are sweating or peeing a lot, you need to replenish your electrolytes. Megan says that coffee is ok and you can add a little bit of cream (or cream) to your coffee, but you have to make sure you don't add a lot and you drink it all at once and are not sipping those calories throughout the day. Fasting can generate more adrenaline, so it can make it harder for some people to sleep (basically your body is telling you that you have to hunt something so you don't starve). Some calming teas like chamomile can help. Resistance exercise can also help to tire you up
Helpful nuances discussed...but still question extended fasting value for myself, early 70s with hx symptomatic Iron Deficiency Anemia & post- Thyroidectomy for CA.
I thought I heard somewhere that the thyroid is relatively untouched under 48 hours but not 72. Can't remember where I heard it nor whether it should be only once a week.
1% body fat! I don't believe that at all. The brain would be freaking out about energy stores big time. He may benefit in a fight that way for sure but to maintain it through a fast is very questionable
Excellent information. But the guest has a voice crackle at the end of every single sentence. It's so annoying. Sounds like a college girl. But the information is fantastic. It's just hard to listen to.
God I am so tired of the fasting merry-go-round. It stresses people who need to heal, and is over recommended. Fung et al have really done a disservice to a large part of this community. Sigh.
If you can't tolerate fasting, you don't have to do it. You should always use the pieces of interviews that resonate with you and never consider it a mandate for healing. Fasting definitely has it's part in healing but only if people can refeed properly and without issues of chronic dieting and disordered eating behaviors. While fasting may not have helped everyone, it helped many. We can say the same thing about carnivore, keto, paleo. The lesson to be learned is find what makes sense for you and even if this lever doesn't work for you, doesn't mean it doesn't work for everyone.
Sorry to be harsh but that's an atrocious take. I agree that fasting isn't for everyone for sure, but nobody is forcing you to fast, and to complain that Fung is stressing you out is a full blown cop out and abdication of personal responsibility. That level of mental fragility will most definitely keep people from healing
You need to look at YOUR thoughts and feelings of pressure to do fasting. Instead of blaming Dr. Fung, look at the guilt you feel about fasting and not doing it or it not seeming to work. It’s not Dr. Fung’s fault for you being tired of it. YOUR feelings come from YOUR thoughts and beliefs, not from what someone else is seemingly doing or not doing.

It's not that carnivore couldn't do it but rather your metabolism needed more work than you thought. Fasting achieved this for you.

If I even eat a slice of apple my body shuts down. Carbs stop everything for me

I healed my food addiction with carnivore. I turbocharged my weightloss with carnivore and extended fasting. Love the conversation.

Are you fasting those days all in a row or eat one day & fast the next?

Fantastic information. I'll save this to rewatch when I need a reminder. Thanks!
I was familiar with Dr Fung but not Megan. Awesome interview and great updated info.
Thank you for this information Judy Cho!! I've been following Megan Ramos & Dr.Fung for sometime and this really helped me as mostly Carnivore eater.

Great show! It did help clarify questions I had about fasting. Thank you!

This was am amazing interview! Loved it. Fasting is such a wonder tool with the balance of eating enough overall 🙌🏻
Please Judy!!! Dont forget activate the Subtitles. From Uruguay
I was afraid to fast bc my whole life I starved to keep my weight down.
Now I'm 45lbs overweight that's just stuck.
I'm sure you have a huge challenge bc of your past behaviors. Watch Judy's new video on fasting. Good luck
I love Megan’s giggle 🤭.
What about intermittent fasting like 16 or 18 hours? Beneficial at all??
Helpful nuances discussed...but still question extended fasting value for
myself, early 70s with hx symptomatic
Iron Deficiency Anemia & post- Thyroidectomy for CA.
What do you think about hypothyroidism and fasting?
Great question !!! and eating plenty of fat in the diet.
I've heard some day don't fast if you have thyroid issues. Not sure what's correct though.
I thought I heard somewhere that the thyroid is relatively untouched under 48 hours but not 72. Can't remember where I heard it nor whether it should be only once a week.
OMAD didn't work for me
So no snacking on butter either? Probably not very impactful I expect.

She sounds fine to me.
God I am so tired of the fasting merry-go-round. It stresses people who need to heal, and is over recommended. Fung et al have really done a disservice to a large part of this community. Sigh.
Have you struggled with it? I found it really useful for about a year and a half.
Why do you think it’s over-recommended? What’s the appropriate level of recommendation?
