Maria Shriver is a poor interviewer. It felt more like an interrogation and her imposing some assumptions on Awkwafina which she had to answer to. Was this a sociological interview?

Maria is reeking of her white privileged upbringing in her tone of questioning. She seems to know and empathize very little with what’s outside her bubble.

This interview is painful to watch in 2021 LOL ... there's a whole generational/era gap between 2018 and the interviewers questions. It's extremely odd how these dated questions are still being asked like what if we asked these types of questions while interviewing Irish/British/European decent actors. Technically all Americans are descendants from people who were not born here. She is literally taking two steps backwards into 1960 by asking how Awkwafina feels about not being categorized as an "Asian" artist/comedian/actor and if its contradictory of the fact that she represents the Asian community. She should've just made a statement on how amazing representation in the media has diversified over time and that POC are no longer categorized by their skin color. It's not direct out right loud racisim/classism, but the quiet tinge of it for me like a back handed compliment. So CRINGEY. As awkward as Awkwafina claims to be, she handled herself very poised and elegant in her answers.
