The inflation and air quality mentioned below are valid points. The former seems to be a global phenomenon relative to each country and what it costs to start with. In all cases Turkey despite rent going up is still very affordable when you can pay for groceries for two under $200 and all utils under $100 - great work guys.

Thanks for watching, a place of interest we saw was Akyaka. It’s a smaller city on the coast with mostly Turkish Tourists from what I understand. I did some video there that I may incorporate into a future video. Not sure about real estate there.
My wife and I toured various areas of Turkey looking for an area to retire. We both liked Antalya and could see a lot of potential there. Though we did find it very hot in summer I can imagine 8+ months per year its very comfortable. Unfortunately with inflation we may change to areas such as Izmir where less tourists have relocated to. If you have any other suggestions where it's still not been so inflated I would love to know. Thank you for the time and work you put into your videos.
Thanks for watching, I can concur about eight months due to heat. I’d look into the air quality in Izmir, poor air quality is a major issue for many areas of Turkey. We plan to talk about this soon. Coastal areas seem to be pretty good for the most part. A smaller place of interest we found is Akyaka. We didn’t do a deep dive into the real estate there and we didn’t encounter any expats living there. It’s a tourist place in the summer but we believe they are from Turkey mostly.
@@WarrenJulieTravel great point about air quality. I was thinking surrounding areas especially just north of Izmir along the coast or the wine regions between Izmir and Cesmi. There's so many beautiful areas in Turkey. I look forward to seeing more of your research from Turkey. I really liked the inland areas near Fethiye and Bodrum (too expensive) but a month in Turkey wasn't nearly enough! If only Alanya were cooler and closer to Antalya!

I lived in Turkey for 3 years and yes I loved how cheap everything was. Now living in Canada I really miss those days. Its just so stressful never being able to get ahead like I was in Turkey. Sometimes I really dream of selling our house here and getting a Villa in Marmaris or Bodrum. I just don't know how my children would do their schooling. Private School can also be very expensive. Maybe Online Schooling could work.
The cost of living in Canada can be a real stressor, I wish you luck in achieving your dream.
We live in Italy,we would love to move in Turkey...Our child is 4 years old and will start school in a year and half.We are thinking how to handle with his education there as well ...
We are contemplating moving, we have 3 kids but like in the U.K. I am hoping our kids adapt over time. We are looking at private schools (I have got some costs and working out to be about $3K per kid per annum) or online home schooling, or just putting the younger ones into Turkish schooling so they can adapt.
Kids are resilient. Plus they can always go back when they get older.

I play 🎾 with my friends from Western Europe and Scandinavia.
Sit outside cafes with them, discussing politics, sport bla de bla.
They all speak English, most do in that part of the world; for decades.
I cycle everywhere, on a fantastic boulevard, beachfrontage infrastructure.
I was a British English language consultant in Kyiv one year; and Odessa three.
In Ukraine.
I left Odessa, ten months before vladolf putler invaded (a hunch)
My mother was from Britanny by the way 😂 🇫🇷
My dad from Berlin....me...I'm from Kensington and Chelsea in London originally; but no English in my ancestry; as I researched it 😂
Live in Alanya region 🇹🇷, of the beautiful Med Sea climate nowadays.
320 sunny days a year; and heavenly for an 'Englishman' 😂
Dec averaged 22c and Jan 21c. About 4 days ☔ each month.
Feb/Mar not cold either....a little more in fact 23c. Again 4 days ☔ collectively.
April was 25c plus and 4 days ☔
May a little hotter at 29c 1 day rain...Coronation 👑 day. ☺
June no rain and averaged 34c.
July off the scale and no ☔
August continued the 🔥 No ☔
Today is 1st September 2023 and it's 39c ☀ slightly cooler 🤔
As you are aware, there's been a heatwave for almost 10 weeks here.
Some days by 4pm it's been 56c.
I'm acclimatised at 37c but anything hotter and I'm not.
I've adapted to this heatwave, and go to the beach at 6am, returning at 10am, before it rises considerably.
Even at 6am it's 31c for the last 4 weeks.
Doesn't fall under that at night either.
Med Sea is like a jacuzzi 😂
(Aircon controlled means I sleep soundly).
Media in 🇬🇧 say 23c is 😂 a "scorcher" In UK.
I live here because of Brexit. (Another hunch 😂 )
Prices very low for us....cigarettes £1.35 single pack of 20.
(I don't smoke, it's a good gauge for prices though)
My monthly rent overlooking the Med Sea is 350 euros.
Winter contract.
My electric and water bill last month, combined was £28
Without aircon it's less.
That's like late 1960s UK prices. 🤔
(Gas heating unnecessary, haven't got it anyway)
You can work out the cost of everything else; just based on what I've written.
But it's about two thirds less, of what I'd pay in UK; and Europe.
British tourists recently told me that.
Fresh produce is the norm, at incredibly low prices, at farmers bazaars.

Brits are obsessed about how much their property is worth, live frugally, die; and fail to take advantage of that equity.
In UK, I'd had enough of being dictated to; by minority groups.
It's much more relaxing; after having left.
Finally, the dreary weather in UK DOES affect thinking.
Also personal appearance, with most UK people possessing dark circles; under their eyes.
(Lack of sunlight) you don't notice it until you leave.
Not so where I've been; and am currently.

We feel the prices may potentially decrease when the war ends. For now, there's much more demand than supply.
559 USD/month!? That was a year ago. While prices have gone up and up and the dollar has barely moved an inch, Turkey is now insanely expensive.

The increase in housing in dollar terms was astounding... I would've imagined that the USD exchange rate would inflate at almost the same as the local inflation rate

Inflation has affected this somewhat, but the rent for them remains the same.

I failed to mention we travel with our car we call Abby. Julie makes dog food and we supplement with kibble, which at times is hard to find. We buy a couple big bags at a time.

There are less expensive places outside the normal goto areas.

Best of luck! We can recommend Selma. For a more quiet town perhaps Akyaka. It's touristy, but on a smaller scale.

Unfortunately we cannot as we are not currently in Antalya and inflation has caused price increases and less vacancies.
OK --- Am I to understand (?) the posted $850 -- $1150 ''including rent'' - to be the needed budget in 2023 going into the 3rd quarter of the year for Antalya retirement ? Speaking the language is always a huge help for negotiations. > Ecudor remains a favorable consideration as well as Colombia & Cambodia if finances are especially important ? If speaking English is a priority as well as finances - the Philippines might be desirable or Malaysia. --?-- Check them all out.

Can anyone confirm what type of Turkish visa/ documentation is needed in moving to Turkey for Canadian citizen? How to get medical coverage with long term stay visa? Can anyone stay long term in turkey renting or must have to buy a residential property to have long term visa and medical benefits??
Hi in the last minute of the video the text starting with "rent increaases due to russian"......$850 - $1150.
Am i correct in thinking your saying that 850-1150 is more likely what you will have to spend and not the $560 quoted a minute before?
This couple were able to negotiate the rent. They speak the language. It is possible to find lower cost rentals, but it takes negotiation.
For June 2024, you can still find a rental apartment for 400-500 dollars in Antalya. with a little research and bargaining. You need at least this much for your other expenses. A monthly income of $1000 is enough to cover all expenses for one person, but it cannot support a family!
I am a Turkish retiree and I also work at a job. I have an income of around 1000 dollars, although it decreases a little every month, and I am having a hard time now and I thought about going to Argentina, but this year Argentina got worse!
I will tell you: If you do not have an income of more than 1000 dollars and the rental expenses in your country are not higher than in Turkey, I would not recommend you to settle here. But if you have the opportunity to buy an apartment starting from 80-90,000 dollars, I can recommend it. Then a family can live relatively comfortably on an income of $1,000 or just under.!

Despite inflation, you can still live in Antalya very inexpensively compared to many places.

Penny pinching
They are not penny pinching. They live a very quality lifestyle and are happy.
So the Americans newcomers in 2023 are making Turkeys filfthy rich paying 800 USD for those rentals. From 187 USD a month to 800 USD a month is an increase of 428%. Waaaaaooooooo.
It is not Americans driving prices, Russians are, since the war started rent prices tripled in every country they can travel,( Georgia, Armenia, cyprus ect).
Its an entry floor, no matter the location people prefer to live upstairs ( flood or pipe problem )
I doubt you can live on that in Antalya. Impossible. Kind of misleading to people watching.
It's possible, we're talking about almost 11.000 Turkish lira per month (rent excluded), and as I mentionned in the video, we cook not all the time but at least 4 times a week, so given all that so far we've been living with a good quality, but it all depends on your life style for sure.
Not at all misleading, it depends on what’s you like to do, and how you shop and eat.
I think you need to bypass "gringo prices" by having a turk negotiate rent with the owner to get best pricing if that's possible.

If you want to live like a poor lower middle class then that’s fine. But people want to retire comfortably with a decent lifestyle and budget. That’s a really bad advice and unrealistic .
