You see Atlas understood what they were doing perfectly.
All of the people who accepted this ending as okay and fine judged it in a selfish way
Ofcourse they know what happened to their friends, so do selfish criminals and people who after harming their friends to achieve their own personal goals(they might regret harming them after, but not during gaming them.)
Atlas knew this way of thinking and perceiving and applied it amazingly in Persona 5 and I loved it a lot.

The point of the game really is kinda not well thought out anyway. The point that changes of hearts are at best morally ambigous and at worst morally inacceptible isn't covered enough in the game at all. The phantom thieves are still considered heroes for completely changing persons without any repercussions because it's "for the better". It's one thing I hate about the story of this game.

What I like the most about this ending is that it is broad enough to be open to interpretation. Yes, I know the popular opinion is that Joker becomes "the very thing he sought to destroy" by "trading the free will of humanity for fame". However, that is not the only way to interpret the deal if you think about it.
Imagine that Joker believes that he really screwed up by entering an unwinnable fight, one that has claimed the lives of his teammates and damned humanity to the point of being nothing more than mindless drones in a world fused with the metaverse. He would do anything for a chance to undo his decision to "reform society", a goal that he no longer feels he can possibly accomplish given the scope of the problem. This deal essentially undoes all of the damage he feels his actions have caused, and while it condemns the public to be prisoners of their subconscious desires, it is not any different than the fate they would have been subject to anyway. I could see Joker accept this deal simply as an admission of defeat, acknowledging that this is the only way he feels that he can save humanity after throwing the world into chaos. Having the Phantom Thieves clear their names would just be seen as an added bonus.

I think you can also consider how Joker was forced into the role of trickster, as he begins the as functional rejected by society. Even if he does choose to fight against the God of Control he still has to turn himself in to implement change.
Considering how defeating the God of Control only allows the possibility of reform can Joker be blamed for not wanting to spend Christmas incarcerated?

Just finished this game and got the “good” ending. This is my breakdown of this one:
So in this ending, Joker basically becomes Akechi. However, instead of plotting to take his revenge out on his father, he takes it out on the world.
Ann, Ryuji, Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba, and Haru are all eternally trapped in the Velvet Room because they’ve all submitted to the detrimental flow of society. They all are now the slaves they wanted to free in Mementos. They are most likely a memory as the world was restored without them. This is hinted as Sojiro insinuates that he doesn’t know Joker is a Phantom Thief.
Morgana gets his memories back, and realizes he failed his mission from the true Igor. Lavenza also can’t help but watch as her rehabilitation has failed in Joker.
Society still elects Shido, however it is all for naught as the only Phantom Thief remaining takes on the nation as the sole figure of justice. He has truly achieved global influence.
I wish this ending lasted longer. It would definitely give off more ominous vibes if it was shown that Joker’s friends are hopeless in this situation.

All those bosses you fought, even Kaneshiro, (along the lines of criminals at least) were normal and well-behaved... right up until they weren't. In each case, the palace owner found themselves in a position of authority that they could truly abuse to their own benefit and to the detriment of those around them. (Yes, even Kaneshiro's behavior marks a departure from criminal norms.) Why should Joker be so different, so pure, that his succumbing to this temptation should be viewed as at odds with his behavior? In this game, it's possible to be a criminal, a condescending jerk, a philanderer and a leech upon your benefactor (Sojiro) but this, this, is too far to bear consideration?

This ending frustrates me. I either like it or hate it based on an unknown variable. What happened to the rest of the Phantom Thieves? There is evidence to support four different scenarios.
    1) The rest of the Phantom Thieves are all alive and functioning. It's called "Good Ending" in the game files. It appears he stays in the city, too. If this is the case, I think I may like this ending better.
    2) The rest of the Phantom Thieves are alive, but have lost their will to fight. If Joker never speaks to them, they lose their ability to use their persona. With Joker accepting this deal, he is the lone member of the Phantom Thieves. I doubt he'd be able to convince them after accepting a deal like that. If this is the case, this ending is very neutral and I don't really hate it. It would mean his friends would eventually prefer to be controlled though.
    3) The rest of the Phantom Thieves died in the velvet room, and everyone forgot they existed because of their cognition. This would be bitter, and I would now hate this ending.
    4) Joker left everyone to die in the Velvet Room. This can now not be considered a good ending at all.

    • @tandues_orbis3182
      @tandues_orbis3182 5 ปีที่แล้ว +36

Well we don't really get to see the other members of the phantoms thieves so we can only assume the world had a "soft reset". The phantom thieves are stuck in the velvet room for ever, with no one even knowing their existence (when it comes to their true identities) as we lack characters like sae being present after the deal and sojiro being oblivious to the other members existence. But my most solid evidence this more of a bad ending is the fact that at the credits we hear the mementos theme just going on. I feel like this confirms how the world is fated to be imprisoned with the lack if proper choice and freedom.
Although room for interpretation is welcome, I just feel like the worse side of the ending is more prominent.

I agree. I wanted to see the world in a very dark state, yet the people still look up to the phantom thieves with numerous reports citing crime is down yet the world becomes much darker. Maybe even your character indulges more into the greed and power of it all. Now that all would make a great evil ending

Akechi being dead isn't really a bad thing, especially since he murdered hundreds of people, not to mention him canonically dying doesn't really effect the story. And humans being trapped in their own cognitive prison is a bad thing? At the end of the game people are still the same as they were before. As if the phantom thieves hadn't just saved their asses from eternal enslavement. That's what I didn't understand about this game, despite me liking it. Is that humans don't think for themselves even when the Holy Grail was defeated. Nothing truly changed. It was pretty anticlimactic in either ending in my opinion. Tbh I think humans would be better off not having free will, especially seeing as how most of the game was about the corruption of humans from the start.

For The Rebel it would dictate freedom is an abstract ideal to mean all our actions are nullified due to how dying would make those action inevitably meaningless therefore freedom to do anything with no long-term consequence as we are distracting ourselves until we death
The relevancy is in Japan the ideal to have too much freedom would be a wet dream. I mean they ain’t exactly expecting more freedom to be a bad thing

The more chaos the less order.
      Society without rules is anarchy
Society with excessive rules is tyranny.

    >the game constantly makes choices for you, like accepting Makoto in your party who's been a huge cunt ever since. Even Ryuji says "well, you can't do anything now since she knows everything" in the what's up chat. Yusuke also agrees when you call her a b- "whitch".
    >basically, all your allies been talking only about the Phantom Thieves stuff throught the whole game, and nothing else, even among themselves. You don't even get the chance to know them better if you don't social link them. Even if you do - there is still no team spirit like in P3-4, you just bound together by fate, which was rigged by Jaldy from the very beginning.
    >after you make the "right" choice and defeat the final boss- once again, the game makes you accept Sae's deal and the fact that all the good deeds from the Phantom Thives would be written off as a police doing their job
    >the society doesn't change one bit even though the game says it does. Ichiko (somehow becoming the "worst girl" by the vocal majority) ends up being the only person who actually saves you from jail instead of the girl who had given the false charges against you, even though she is considred to be part of the "society" which is supposed to be changed by now and thus it should've been her who had spoken the truth without Ichiko finding her, yet she ends up doing nothing without the pressure
    >people actually believe it was all the police doing. Not before the credits, nor after them anything shows that people still believe in the Phantom Thives
    >This is literally THE ONLY time the game is actually giving you the oportunity to make a choice that will effect your fate
    >THE ONLY moment where you are given a chance to show your free will, instead of doing the "right thing"
    >"Y-you just don't get the point of the game((( I-it's about the free will(("
Those who believe this is the "bad" ending are the only ones who don't get the idea about the "free will" itself, since they are being easily swayed by their own self-righteousness. Pathetic. Also, the game does a very poor job at explaining how the free will is achived and how you break the chains of whatever holds you back, given all the facts I've written above. it's rather sad we've come to this point. Those series used to have a far deeper and complex plot, yet made it meaningfull.
