Solenoid or Relay use small power to engage big power. Poor connections mean everything. Good vid. GG :)

Exactly ! Have you had to deal with the same thing before?

Hey, for when the engine doesn't work, get a couple of really long oars and a drum so you can take turns beating the drum and rowing the boat. 🙂 You smiled, didn't you? Or you could get a long rope with a harness and take turns swimming and towing the boat. 😲 Or you could use the dingy to tow the boat.

Great video, wishing you guys would show more maps, cruising relies on charts.

I’ll try to show more of where we’re going on a map ! We don’t use paper charts just the iPad and chart plotter as backup (iPad is more accurate we find)
I’ll see if I can do some cute route showing things after the fact and add them in to the vids 👌👌

Y'all are getting quite good at constructing a coherent narrative out of things that have the potential to be confusing and incoherent. So nice work! On the topic of the engine problem -- do you have a "flyback diode" in the circuit? I'm not 100% sure what that is, but all the rando Internet sites seem to believe it's important for this sort of thing. (And on the topic of a manual engine crank -- it might be easiest to get one fabricated -- you might find a good craftsperson in a little shop somewhere down there.)

Haven’t heard of that before - may look into that.
Thank you for the compliment! We’re always trying to be more entertaining & informative so that’s great feedback!

I am 75, have studied all of the hard sciences including biology and psychology and psychology has a lot to do with motion sickness. If you worry about it, you will get sea sick.
The best thing is to keep your mind busy thinking about other things or you will worry yourself sick, which is easy to do.
Keep thinking about other things like your sailing, stay where you can see the horizon at least some of the time, relax, and enjoy the trip. There are a lot else you can focus on like weather, birds, sea life like dolphins, and catching fish or fixing food. Hint, I bet you never get sea sick watching the dolphins do you? No, you are too busy having fun so relax and have fun to keep your mind off of getting sea sick.

Nice tips ! I don’t think I’m worrying about it much - it’s more of an inner ear physiological thing for me it seems. But I’ll take all the tips I can get! I’ve tried most of them :)

Jeff I have 50 kw 4 cylinder turbocharged Yanmar and I just changed the starter because the the positive nut would not come lose and busted the plastic on the solenoid .but under the starter was a solenoid that was not hooked up.zYou can eliminate the external solenoid if you run a 10 awg wire from the switch to the blade terminal on the starter.I’ve seen this also on bigger diesels. Can’t always go by voltage readings

Good thoughts for sure . Yeah there’s def some issue with the power going thru. We got some more problems since this video was posted with it but it’s finally sorted now - update coming

Regarding seasickness. There are electronic anti-seasickness wristbands starting around $85 on Amaz with rechargeable battery. Somehow a tiny electric pulse to wrist nerve interrupts the confused inner ear to brain connection that causes seasickness. Nice diagnosis on the starter relay- a corrosion block coating (after assembly) might help.

I have one of those seasickness electronic bracelets!
It does work a bit but I was still getting a bit sick even with it on level 3 lol
      It’s getting better tho !

I don't know if this is your issue, but I had the same symptoms. The 12 volts from the switch (the wire) that goes down to the relay isn't enough oompf. Continuity and voltage show on the test, but not enough to make the engine start. Also, heat increases the frequency of failure. I did all the cleaning, all the corrosion fixing, and replaced terminals. Still not enough. Putting a single wire from the back of the switch to the relay fixed it on ours. Apparently, there are multiple segments and too small of a wire. I also have a hand-switch starter, just in case. The key point isn't the relay itself but the amount of power coming through the wire to the relay. There are multiple forum posts about Yanmar and starter switchwires. Maybe not your problem but something to think about.,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience !
We don’t think this is the problem and as you’ll see coming up in future videos , the saga continues until we get a resolution ! Lolol

Its comical how many TH-cam sailors can't sail their boat without an engine.
