For anyone considering the "camo via decal" route: I HIGHLY recommend picking up a set of either Delpi or G Rework 3rd party decals for these ground zakus. I'm not typically someone who gets overly nitpicky about the quality of Bandai's decals, but the sizes and locations of these camo prints really make it difficult to deal with Bandai's thick, less adhesive decal film. And it's by no means easy with the other brands either, but it's the difference between "time consuming and tedious work to get them right" vs "nearly impossible to make it look smooth at all, even with infinite patience, carefully applied cuts and folds, and aggressive use of decal softener".
Can confirm, some of the decals is really hard to stick it to the parts. If i remember correctly only 3-4 decals out of almost 100 decals but it is really frustrating.
Also a good amount of decal.softener and decal fix will help too. I use Vallejo ones and they do the job in the best way. My favorite brand of decals is Delpi but i used G-Rework too. Evo and Flaming Snow are nice brands too
Even in a lot of Bandai's promotional photos for the Surface Type Zakus, you can see some of the water decals peeling off or not adhering well to round surfaces. 3rd party is the way to go here
This is my new favorite Zaku variant. In-universe I guess this is the Origin version of the ms-06G in terms of being a high-mobility ground-type. I can imagine this being a J-type that had Dom technology folded back into the Zaku line, whereas in the mainline UC history the MS-06G is a Zaku II with jumping capability on par with the Gouf. In the real world I have a feeling that the animators wanted to re-use the Zaku II assets as much as possible while still giving the bad guys a distinctive mech.
I've built gunpla kits with water decals since 2017 but putting these decals put my experiences to shame. I've learned the hard way that you need to keep the cotton bud always wet all the time when applying these, but luckily i can fix some the fuckups. I ripped some of it because the decals won't stick at all. If i someone asked me to put these decals again, they have to pay me 😂 Is it absolutely difficult and time consuming to apply these decals on exact parts locations with edges and curves, but it's still doable.
It’s so simple and obvious now. One of those “why didn’t anyone think to do that before” but will now be a standard for all Zaku type kits going forward
Loved the zaku designs in the film, but those water slides scare the crap out of me. No way I could make those ever look good. If I pick one up maybe would tempt me to try hand painting.
I like how you pose the models. You should make a video with just a list of poses. a sort of "enciclopedia of poses" to help us without a great imagination when it's time to pose a kit.
I'd love to get my paws on these kits... If they were a lot easier to acquire as a Canadian. The Gundam:The Origin kits are pretty much the only high grades I tend to buy, since I rather like them, and they're such a joy to put together. I do love the weapons the trio got though!
Alright, I was thinking these kits would be my first foray into water slides, but I guess I’ll just use the monoeye and whatever. I considered giving the camo a shot, but it probably won’t be worth it.
I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I am a sucker for Zakus and I ordered all 5 variants of this one. On the other hand, I hate it from a lore, technology and combat role perspective because it's completely unnecessary for this thing to exist. This is a role the Dom fills, and fills better. There's no indication that the Zaku had enough generator output to power any amount of nuclear turbojets to achieve hover, even for a short time. Especially given how much they struggled to get the Gouf, which has a more powerful reactor, to fly and only barely managed to achieve hover with the 4th prototype flight type. I get that The Origin is alternate timeline, but it's not so alternate that technology in it doesn't function more or less identically. But, I feel this way about much of the newer stuff they keep cramming into the One Year War timeline. We're well past the point of oversaturation with new prototypes and one-offs that keep being added while long established ones from the distant past of the MSV line are largely ignored and still have never received even one kit in over 45 years. They really need to move past the OYW to the insurgency period during the following 7 years until Axis arrives in the Earth Sphere and the Neo Zeon Wars begin if they want to keep cramming in so many new designs.
These were my first foray into water slide decals. I was not impressed. They didnt work for me at all. They either tore cause they didnt want to come off or just didnt want to stay on. Suffice to say this kit made me want to start painting cause screw these camo waterslides
I'd love waterslides with all kits as well however, bandais waterslides are horrendous compared to 3rd party. Still better than stickers though by a mile
I wish I was able to get this kit (we need P-Bandai in the UK), it looks great even without the camo. The waterslides for the camo looks like quite the challenge, guess you could photocopy the water slides and then use that copy to help make masking guides to paint the camo?
Those decals! That's... actually kinda disappointing. I was interested in the idea of them having been molded in camo. But I guess good decals and flat coating really can hide a lot of the crimes of PlaMo (much more than I gave it credit for)! Too optimistic! >_< Maybe if they could do an MG. Still a nice design either way! ^_^
Yeah I thought they might do the camo as pre-printing on the parts. Definitely dreaming too high for Bandai! 😂 But I think it would be really cool if they were to make something like that. Just as a flex
@@ZakuAurelius Yeah. We've seen them do multi-colour casting before, on a rare few kits. So I had hopes this was the same, just 'more' of it. But alas, not yet. >_
Hi, I know this is off topic for this video, but I sent my photos for the contest on the 5th and never got a confirmation. Should I resend or are you understandably still sorting through emails?
This has more new parts to an origin zaku compare to say... heindree sturm or zowort heavy to their regular ver. 😅 If they're regular releases, then I'd be happy for them to release more and i'm far from having enough of em. But since they're p-bandais... stop or keep doing it, or do whatever with the variations, don't really care 🤣
I'm having trouble putting some of the decals on 😢 If there is anyone on TH-cam who knows someone who can help me apply these Camouflage decals, that would be very greatfull 🙏😣
I really hate the P-Bandai crap, might as well not even exist since no one outside of Japan has any hope of actually getting them for any reasonable price. So many kits we REALLY need completely off the table, such as Deathscythe Hell (Which I am most salty about) and this one.
@@shinigamikira9469 I'm across the planet from where P-Bandai exists, which means the pricing for kits that would be $20 is made several times that in the rare event you can even get access to one.
I'm curious as to why an engineer/pilot would go through all the trouble to breed a Zaku with a Dom, since you'd just be getting a Dom with a weaker generator and weaker armor. Realistically, if you want a big hovering mobile suit, just go for the Dom and give it that custom machine gun. I like the design of this thing (I already like the HiMo Test Type Zaku from 08th MS Team), but practically speaking, it's just a bit silly.

Thank you for the feedback. I really dislike any bandai water decal. Any other 3rd party decal are miles better in terms of ease of use.

this zaku is so cool! by far the coolest ace zakus in UC in my opinion
🤩 Loving the new parts and accessories on this HG Zaku! 🚀
Glad you like them!
I absolutely love the HG origin zakus. I've built several just for the fun of em

Dude, the MONOEYE! Finally! Man I hope that becomes the standard, painting monoeyes by hand on the plain stuff was such a drag
I SO wanna kitbash one of these Southern Cross Zakus with the Bugu
i really didnt expect them to have better articulation then the standard origin zaku.
And - out of stock on P-Bandai. Thanks ZA.
An amazing looking Zaku! Just sucks that I can’t find it anywhere.
Damn, hope a Bandai engineer gets a raise for that sliding gimmick on the leg armor

Haha that’s a fun idea! I could certainly try a “how to posing” type of video 👍
Buildin mine soon❤
I think they got the sliding leg mechanism from the HG The Origin Dom Test Type due to its own bulky lower legs.

I thought about that! Or just cut them out from the decal sheet and use them as trace guides yeah
I built this kit and tried the waterslides. They were not enjoyable at all. Anything with a curve was the bane of my existence.
Yeah Bandai decals are notoriously thick and don’t bend as well as cheaper ones. Great colors and opacity usually but that’s the trade off

Bandai needs to make a MG Zaku 3.0 GTO, not really interested that much anymore with HG kits outside of AOZ.
I hope they give the left trigger hand and shorten the Zaku machine gun rear stock

i say the camoflauge waterslide decal is one of the main point of this hg kit lmao, technically didn't finish the kit if you don't use it...\

Is this zaku have any relation with zaku high mobility type r1, r1a, r2. I know the origin and main uc is not 1 to 1 same

also, I tried finding this on Amazon, and I can't find it.
Bandai decal for this kit is just too difficult for me. i choose G-rework decal instead.
Bandai waterslides are too thick to make the camo look good sadly. I would prob go for 3rd party waterslides if you want the camo look.

water decal sticker sheets?, really?, couldn't they've just used a normal decal sticker sheet instead?

It’s to keep the zaku going and going that’s why heck the high mobility r2 was kinda used to make the gelgoog as it used some of its parts
A lot of the new suits from Origin are cool designs but I find that their placements in the lore aren't really interesting or well thought out
Because the Dom is not a thing yet.
Ground high mobility type was the stepping stone to the DOM.

i did not enjoy the camo decals on the desert type (d.a version) mainly due to the decals needing to be folded over rounded parts
