This is such a beautiful place. I have been in Caerleon about a year ago. These streets make me remind of that place. By the way, thanks for sharing your settings. SJ4000 is a nice camera!
I ordered one of these yesterday Sandy. Seen a lot of good reviews on them. Spare batteries are cheap as well. Excellent. Will help me get some videos done outside properly.
I have a GoPro already for my motorcycle and ordered this as a cheap one for a different view while riding. I will be using your settings when it arrives! Thanks
JesterBushcraft For the money it is a good camera though the audio is a bit naff. I find the white balance set to tungsten works best and also set the exposure up 1/3 Sandy
Hi Sandy, great vid and most of my settings are similar to yours. I have mine set to HD video but am not getting as good a quality as yours. I'm using Movie Maker as to produce my vids. What format do you save your movies in as I think this is where I am going wrong. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers MJT
Hi Sandy, What an absolutely magic little camera. I have been a keen stills photographer for many years, but since I started practicing bushcraft I have been thinking about a video camera. Do forgive my lack of knowledge in these things but how much actual filming time do you get with these. Having never used a video camera I am a complete beginner but I am definately interested in getting an SJ4000 you can't go wrong at a price like that. Thanks Sandy Atb Simon
I reckon to get around 1 hour of conitual filming. You are limieted by the battery. Also if you film in 1080 your going to fill the micro sd card quicker than if you filmed in a lower resolution. Sandy
Thanks for the video... Good job ! I bought this came cam, and I have to say that the video it takes is pretty good. The one thing I'm trying to figure out is, How do we make the video rotate to the upright position when the cam is hanging upside down below a quadcopter? I have tried all the settings, but still can't get it rotate. Now the video does rotate on the cams little monitor, but not in the video itself... Any thought or ideas ?
Thanks for updates mate. I'm well pleased with mine. I think it's set up pretty much the same as yours. It's a little red but it's acceptable. 😁 I want to get another would be useful to have 2
Hi there, a stooopid question maybe but no one shows how to get your vid onto youtube. I stick my micro doohda into the adapter thingy and stick it in the port of my pooter and it plays the vid. But what do I do then. Do I have to but a seperate lead that goes from the camera into the pooter so I download the vids that way. I have no idea.
hi, cheers for going through the settings and everything. I have just got the same camera, and am currently using wmm, so need as much help as possible to get a decent film from it. cheers atb, phill
Good luck with it Phill, The white balance is a little tricky still. Try cloudy setting for early morning shots when the light temp is colder. The cloudy setting warms things up, then switch to auto for later in the day.
Cheers for that, iv got a little trip planned so will experiment and give it a go. Iv got to ask though, does it take ages to upload to youtube? Took me an hour earlier to upload a 5 min test video. Cheers for your advice, Phill.
Hi Sandy, That is a huge improvement on the previous video. It`s a good little camera. I think it`s time to go shopping. Did you do any more experimenting with the sound? Thanks, Tony.
It seems not a bad result, the price is great, but for me the wide angle lens with all the bending at the edges, especially in woodland makes for uncomfortable watching. They should have gone for a rectilinear lens that reduces the distortion. I think i will wait for a different one or just save for a go pro.
Congrats on passing your radio exams. You will have to learn Morse code if you want to talk to me. Hi. Just joking, but if you want a sked on 40 or 80 meters SSB just let me know. As for the camera settings I use 720p and also am using Movie maker. Sandy
Wiltshire man! I have a important question for you, that you might be able to help me with. I have got a sports cam and a hdmi to mini hdmi lead, I want to view the videos I have captured on my TV via the mini hdmi to hdmi lead, but nothing is showing up. Therefore my question is, Can you view your sports cam videos on a TV? if so how would you do it? I have no laptop, so alls I'm left with to view the videos is the screen on the camera its self which is very small. Can you please help if you know how, thank you
Hi Wiltshire man, good tips, thanks very much. How are you saving your files to make them compatable with Windows movie maker. I'm struggling on this, complete novice :-)
When doing video test footage, we need to see the camera in hand panning from one side to the other so that we can see if the video is blurred or not.... that is the important thing. With a dash cam the camera is basically just sitting on a tripod so you can't really test out the motion blur.
I use mine a lot when cycling I have found the battery life to be a bit poor any advice on how to extend it. I have tried turning the sound off to try to extend the battery life.
+Robert Thyer Just get extra battery like this www.dx.com/p/sj4000-1-5-tft-12-0-mp-2-3-cmos-1080p-full-hd-outdoor-sports-digital-video-camera-silver-black-288813?Utm_rid=38797239&Utm_source=affiliate

I ended up with 3 of them. I think this is how all the reviewers start. I expected a bit too much from a £30 camera, but some of the fakes are realy good, I hoped I would get one of them. I have seen a malaysian seller asking £8.50 for them, I think it's a safe bet they arent genuine. For what I paid for all the different versions I could have got a gopro.

I recently found a micro SD card underwater by a waterfall in El Yunque Rainforest! I was surprised to see that it still works and I uploaded some of the videos to try to find the owner.
Hi Garry, I think I am happy with it now. May turn off the HDR feature and see if it gets rid of the slight yellow colour cast around the edges but apart from that for a cheap camera it is good. Sandy
+Flash photography.. Lee Hensman I reckon your right. I could never really get it to work the way I wanted. I still use this camera from time to time but now mostly use a Gopro hero4 which is a lot better
+Wiltshire Man Fair play to you bro, would love a Hero 4, don't think I was having a dig mate, I guessed you had figured out it was a fake by now, I got sent a fake first, thought would use it to strip it down to see specs, not bad compared to a genuine one but you can certainly tell difference in OS and functionality. warning don't try to update software on yours as will brick the cam.
+Wiltshire Man ps forgot to say great video, really informative, I've got some footage on my channel of my SJ4000. great for night time footage from my fox rescue, only hate is the mov format, thought my converting format days were over until I got this lol.
I thought at first the video was about a camera review. Strange how some people seem to think it is something to do with cleanliness or cuticle care...
Hi Chris, Yes you will get fisheye distortion with this camera if you tilt it. It's a cheap camera and not as good as the gopro's. I don't use it these days as I now have Gopros, but it was better than nothing
Lucky me that's not what I bought but its still sj4000 but not the fake one from the online store and its really great coz it got a long lasting batt. life..
Just bought a S/H real 4000 wifi for £ 30 mint and complete .Shame the sound quality is poor on them. so will 100% be modding mine to accept a external mic .
Yeah, I had a GoPro soon after they were introduced. I had it mounted on the light bar of my 90 where, one day at Yarwell quarry the branch of a tree whipped it straight off and into the path of the Landie following close behind. It did not survive!! I now have a couple of £49.99 jobs from Morrison's and to be honest, at less than a quarter of what I paid for the GoPro I can't tell the difference. Sadly so many people believe what the advertisers tell them. In truth the GoPro is over rated.
also i prefer my sj4000 to gopro. it sits in between the gopro 3 and 4. little better than 3 not as good as 4 also i like how it saturates the colours. gopro tends to be a little dull unless its a very sunny day the sound on the sj4000 is god awful though lol
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! I BOUGHT AN SJ4000 AND IT WORKS PERFECT BUT I CANT EVEN RECORD ANYTHING WITHOUT IT SHAKING LIKE AN EARTHQUAKE PLEASE HELP ME IM BEGGING YOU!
unfortunately there is no image stabilising on the sj4000 so you will have to learn to either hold the camera steady or use a tripod or other aids to stabilse the camera
cant hear any of stupid people who said,oh man garbage, but amount of money wich they give to ebay etc. is 10$....GREAT CAM FOR THIS MONEY...if you using for dashboardor similar, great product..if you need better cam for sports put 100-500$ for go pro...solved
Wiltshire Man thank you I didn't mean IT negativ so sorry but i think yours Will work Just as good atleas i hope ( sorry for bad english i am Dutch ) ;)
Wiltshire Man I've got a sports cam with micro sd slot and mini hdmi input On the side like your sports cam, I bought a hdmi to mini hdmi lead thinking this would automatically get the videos up through the hdmi input, but nothing happens? I want to playback the sports cam videos on my TV screen via the mini hdmi to hdmi lead, but nothing is showing up. Therefore my question is, Can you view your sports cam videos on a TV? if so how would you do it? I have no laptop, so alls I'm left with to view the videos is the screen on the camera its self which is very small. Can you please help if you know how, thank you
bh0151 maybe a bit late, but the mini hdmi lead is for viewing what your camera sees at that moment, not so u can stream your camera screen to your tv. But if you're tv has usb support, you can buy a micro-sd card to usb type usb and then you can see you're video's on you're tv. Hope this helps ;)
Just bought 2 for under £20.00 as a start for bike mounted filming. Thanks for the info here, it will be really helpful.
Just upgraded my camera from 2 ebay cheap and cheerfuls. First test tomorrow. Grabbed your settings there. Thanks very much

Thanks Sandy.

Hi Sandy, I do like the music that you pick out for you videos. Ray
Hi Ray, You can get all the music from the TH-cam creator studio.
Sandy
yer, I will be having a look at that when I finish downloading video maker. cheers
Hey. could u tell me what studio you use to edit your videos. I recently bought the sj4000 and I can't upload my videos to the go pro studio.
Hi Wiltshire man, good tips, thanks very much.
How are you saving your files to make them compatable with Windows movie maker. I'm struggling on this, complete novice :-)
Richard Hatt Thanks Richard,
I just save my files in normal windows folders.
Sandy
Can you do timelapse? and what firmware this camera uses. thanks
And original SJcam has SJcam greetings instead of welcome, did you scratched a code and verified that you cam is original on sjcam website?
When doing video test footage, we need to see the camera in hand panning from one side to the other so that we can see if the video is blurred or not.... that is the important thing. With a dash cam the camera is basically just sitting on a tripod so you can't really test out the motion blur.

hi mate have you updaterd the firmware on this and is it a real sj4000
That's the fake SJ4000...
marcotizer No, it is not the fake one look up what the diffrences are between a fake yellow and real yellow the colours are kind of diffrent on the fake one
DiePvP To be honest I am totally confused now as I have seen fakes that were not and SJ's that were, It is a minefield
The real sj4000 or sj cameras have the logo below the lens, even if the 'fake' ones are the same, no logo makes them fake, just some are better than others.
Andrew Smart

Yes, I literally just remember when te sj4000
You are probably aware by now, but this is a fake the same one as my first. The proper SJ4000 has a different screen and even if you screw the settings right up it will still take a great picture. If number is in that format it is the same chipset (Novatek NT96650) and image sensor (AR0330) as SJ4000.
You could upgrade using the latest f/w but I would *NOT* as
a) you have all the goodies like HDR and other settings most clones don't have anyway.
b) without the original FW96550A.bin file (all versions have the same file name) you could kill the cam forever.
Hope this helps a little.
I mean "all the bells and whistles of an *SJCAM* SJ4000" obviously.
Try using Shotcut for editing. It does not have a lot of overhead. Best of all it is free.
what site did you get this sandy as i see there's even copies of these on the market
Yes Greg there are copies of the sj4000. I bought mine from Amazon and the traders name was "Coshin group" they are based in China. It only took a week to get here.
Sandy
thanks sandy ill have a look for that company
Good vid papa, I did a similar review on my channel, killer camera.
Thanks for the info. Mine should be with me tomorrow.
The video of you driving is footage from the SJ4000 you reviewed? That's not bad at all!
Yes it was the same camera. I now use a gopro hero4. The little sjcam doesn't get used much now.
Wiltshire Man the footage looked good to me
Hi Sandy
I'm sure that will be helpful to any users of the camera.
I thought the video clip was good - the whites were white, while the quality and sharpness were perfectly acceptable.
I couldn't read number plates or most of the road signs, but that was only because you were doing 100 mph!
Cheers
Noel
Cheers Noel, For the money I think it is OK and it sure is a brave little thing cos it rides the copter and doesn't complain. I wouldn't want to be a passenger on the quad copter I can tell you.

dosnt mean its a fake if it dosnt have the logo on, check the firmware in the settings it will say sjcom sj4000 if its a real one.
Christopher Hail YEP Just check the firm ware version and as you say it does say SJCAM-SJ4000 so as I thought it's the real deal. Thanks for that.
Sandy
what sd card do u use mine won't read the one I have
Perhaps you have dirty contacts on your card.
My SD card is messed up also. I'm going to buy a new 32GB from Best Buy for around $13.
you need a class 10 card and format it to fat32. I believe they'll take up to 32 gigs
I recently found a micro SD card underwater by a waterfall in El Yunque Rainforest! I was surprised to see that it still works and I uploaded some of the videos to try to find the owner.
can u link where u got this model from, the one i have has none of the setting u show
Mine does not have all those settings :/
its got much more settings and options than my hero 2 plus a screen, win win
Hi Garry,
I think I am happy with it now. May turn off the HDR feature and see if it gets rid of the slight yellow colour cast around the edges but apart from that for a cheap camera it is good.
Sandy
I need to know how to take one apart
Is that shrivngham in Oxfordshire?
Yes it is
I live in wantage hw weird to watch a vid by someone so close
you've brought a fake, also if you set yours to power off after three minutes the cyclic record in which you also set for three minutes won't work.

marcotizer you are totally correct,,for a start when he switched it on it says "welcome" the original wont say this...sorry wiltshire man ;(
Like your accent, you sound like a pirate. Thank god for TH-cam or I could never master how to work this thing.
Arghhhh....shiver me timbers he's a pirate LOL
It's not a poor man's gopro a sj4000 is better in every way
Good vid and thanks

I now have a couple of £49.99 jobs from Morrison's and to be honest, at less than a quarter of what I paid for the GoPro I can't tell the difference. Sadly so many people believe what the advertisers tell them. In truth the GoPro is over rated.
yes absolutely - label lemmings!
also i prefer my sj4000 to gopro. it sits in between the gopro 3 and 4. little better than 3 not as good as 4
also i like how it saturates the colours. gopro tends to be a little dull unless its a very sunny day
the sound on the sj4000 is god awful though lol
Mine has really bad quality and its the real one. Any tips for better quality?
+Golden Jelly sounds naff on mine but video is fine. only use 30fps and 720. no probs
+Barnsley Bitter thanks :)

unfortunately there is no image stabilising on the sj4000 so you will have to learn to either hold the camera steady or use a tripod or other aids to stabilse the camera
That's not a real SJCAM! That's fake version.

I use sony vegas lol noob
