I think the accessories being a part of it is a way to say "ours is better because look at all these accessories we include!" but in reality, you're looking at $10 worth of accessories. If even that.
I see your point. Guess what... I just got back from vacation and I didn't realize there was a small Crack in the housing when I dove underwater. I came up and notice that I had water inside needless to say it damaged my sjcam.... but I must say the sjcam takes wonder pics. Resolution is really nice. There goes the hype about all the extra accessories....lol. Anyway back to BandH. I'm wondering if they will replace it??. Anyway thanks for the response. Looking forward to more of your reviews.

I took a chance and bought one of these from eBay. I'm glad to see I won't be disappointed when I get it. I have the lesser version already, the 720p with no WiFi, and for only $40, I am seriously amazed at the quality. Thanks for the review.

Can you edit your videos with the app or do you need to plug it into your computer to edit? If so what would you use to edit your vids on computer is their some kind of editing software?.. Or can you just edit straight from your phone app
Its a fantastic little cam, mine now relegated to high risk use as i just aquired a Gitup Git2 camera, this is the new daddy of cheaper action cams, it spanks the SJ5000X Elite in ever department, has a better sensor and costs a little less. I got mine from the EU warehouse, not sure if in USA now but they come and go all the time.

Your review was well done. You say cool a lot :) However, you're the only one I've seen so far that actually shows all the features you're able to adjust via your phone. With some of the video being oversaturated, it's nice to know I can make adjustments prior to recording so I get a great pic. I plan on using one of these, now, on my next underwater metal detecting trip! Thank you!

MultiTerpen It is easy to up date, did mine when I got it. Download the new file from the site and put it on an SD card. Boot the camera with the SD installed and the firmware is updated. Than reformat the card and you are done.
This SJ4000 seems like a great deal. I was pretty much sold on it, but I wanted to get your opinion. I know the Hero 4 Silver is probably a better camera, and I know I'm comparing a $400 Go Pro to a $100 ish SJ4000, but my employment allows me to get any GoPro for 40% off. So the GoPro 4 Silver that's $400 for $240. comparing that price point, would you pay more for the Go Pro 4 Silver now that it is substantially less? If I couldn't get the discount, I'd go for the SJ no problem. But I figure if I have the GoPro Discount, I might as well use it while I can. Thoughts?

Kyle, pretty sure the specs says 12 and not 14 megapixel camera for photo stills. However the SJ4000 is equipped with a 3 mp sensor, so setting the pic quality above 3mp is pointless really. Another thing is the 720p, 60fps mode is not true 720p, 60fps. It really should be labelled 720p, 2x30fps. What I mean is when you select 60fps, the camera records at 30fps and duplicates each frame twice hence calling it 60fps. I would stick to 1080p, 30fps always really when using the SJ4000.
operative The specs on my box say 16mp... by in camera I can set the resolution to 14mp. (check 2:46 as I am setting the resolution) I don't know what is up with that. Good advice on the 720p 60fps I which I had caught that and been able to mention it
Kyle, I just acquired a Mars 350 Video Drone, it's comes with a 3D gimble designed sadly for the GoPro models with WiFi. Is the SJ4000 the exact same physical size as the GoPro (Not Hero) so I can substitute?? Also - how far will the WiFi video feed stay in contact and how long does the battery last in 1024 video mode in your actual experience?? BTW, great video review, concise and to the point. Very pro.
Ok ok,pretty good review, i got the sj4000 and i'm happy with it. You should buy the go pro just if you want more dynamic range because the dybamic range of the go pro is a lot better , and the video from the gopro is actually more "raw" than the sj4000, so if you want to color grade the footage you will find out that you have more pixel information on the gopro,because on the sj4000 is already colorgraded but you can set the sharpness all the way down to get better results on post,if the sj will implement an option to down the contrast and saturation level will it be over the gopro for sure. If you are not interested in dynamic range and color grading the SJ4000 is the perfect camara for you
Sam Frost The GoPro Batteries do not work with it, I tried the connector is different. The battery life of the SJ4000 is not as good as the HERO around 80 minutes compared to the 165 minutes you get with the HERO. However the batteries are removable and you can pick up spares for really cheap.
joshua escobar everything is compatible with gopro mounts ... theres a universal mount for all camera brands that will convert a tripod to a gopro mount. And yes, the water case and skeleton cases of this is straight up go pro compatible ie. uses 2 prong style mount

I have a similar version it's called the sanco sj4000 its good but when i recorded one of my kayaking videos the quality looked more 480p than 1080p(what i was supposed to be recording in). Also the camera seems to randomly turn on and record stuff when i don't even touch it (motion sensor is off)

The copies aren't as good, usually much more unstable software, lower quality and easier to break. Just going off experience some other makes of the camera may be as good.
I have a question! This camera looks great, but i see that there is a time stamp on all of the pictures and videos shot by that camera. Can it be removed somehow???
MrGrunthunter's Adventures i have one of these cams all mounts are directly compatible things that arent are battery, case(but backdoors work so im told), mic adapters(doesnt suport external mic without hacking it), and carger as it uses micro usb. hope this helps

This would make a fantastic 2nd or 3rd camera in a multi camera setting at a special event. You can update the firmware at SJCAM website, they update the firmware pretty regularly.

Why is the timecode in upper right hand corner upsidedown?
I was shooting upside down had to flip the footage in post. You can turn off timecode in camera
How safe are they in their waterproof casing say from impact? If someone could reply as soon as let me know?

Yes you can turn it off on the menu setting.
Yes I did not know it was on when I was taking my test shots but there is a setting in the menu which will let you turn it off
