I haven't used my H5 in months, so I needed a refresher on how to format an SD card, plus I learned some extra things in the process of listening to your tutorial. Much appreciated, thanks!
Thanks for this video! Exactly what I needed. Completely forgot about the mic running on phantom power. Thought it was broken for a minute. Perfect tutorial.
I just got my H5 today! Thanks very much for the video. I've already tested the mic out and the audio blows my mind. I used to use a RODE Go Mic, so the upgrade was totally worth it.
Hello, My Zoom H5 is on its way as I type and already I am so much for confident in using it for the first time. You are a great teacher and I am grateful. Rachel
Trying to download the files via the cable is like trying to push a gallon of water through a cocktail straw. The speed is like maple syrup. Especially when you're dealing with Wave files.
Thank you so much for a great INFORMATIVE AND BRIEF review. I love the H5 Recorder and have been using mine for my Bachelors of Science Degree Program at Full Sail University and have used it in a Sound Design project for a video game. Crazy considering I am an Audio Productions student. I love this recorder and I love the Demo/Overview that you have provided for us. Brief and Clear...Loved This. Thank You.
I really like my Zoom H-5. Especially when I need to do voice over for any of my videos and don't feel like sitting at my studio desk. I can hook up one of my quality 🎤 s and do voice over from in my bed if I want to. I just ordered a power cable adapter for it so I can use that instead of having to use batteries. Very Quality Product.
Hi, Thank you for this. Very helpful. However, on my new Zoom H5, both the 1 and 2 lights come on simultaneously, instead of one at a time, as in your video. Would you know why? Thanks.
You don’t have to turn the Zoom H5 off and back on to use it as a card reader or USB interface. Just go to the USB tab in the menu and select which device you want.
thank you so much for this great info. I'm getting familiar with this product so its very exciting. I have a cooking TH-cam channel and its been almost a year so now I want t impress everyone with new videos w the recording products, mics and lighting.
Thanks for a great review. The only thing that might have helped a little would have been some discussion about audio format and set up. Thanks for your great work.
Is the SD slot so fragile that it’s liable to break? Also what’s the point of adding a mic into channel 3? For what purpose? Can you overdub or just add an extra mic? Why would you need 4 channels in this recorder?
Great video. Which jack on the side (line out or headphones) do I use if I want to listen to the play back of any of the recorded material? Either I have horrible headphones, or I need a therapist.
..and one more question...Can you record in Stereo with the XLR mics? I am sometimes asked by an agent to send them an mp3 file rather than a wav. Since you can't record an mp3 in multi mode, is it safe to recored an mp3 in stereo with an XLR mic? I have a CAD E 100S. Thanks, agian.
why is that necessary? I've never turned off phantom power on any Audio-Technica or Sennheiser mic or Senheiser Lav Receivers, ever. Please explain the concern?
Thank you for your video! I have a question, I am trying to connect a lavalier mic to the ZoomH5 and I don't get it :( I have a smartLav+ and I bought the SC3 adaptor but still I can't record, would you please give me any advice? thank you and have a nice day!!
If using 4 microphones along with 4 quality headsets what splitter do you recommend for the headsets? In order words, will sound be affected depending on splitter! Thanks
help me with two problems with my H5: 1. I’m using a Shure m58 with standard cable to input 1/2 and Audio-Technica headphones connected to the phone-jack (upper lefthand side of the H5). I have to set the input-volume dials for 1/2 to nearly 7 just to hear myself through the headphones and I hear an annoying “hiss”. Why can’t the unit be more sensitive and I be able to hear from 1-6???? I thought for sure that it would be a beautiful sound that I could hear, crisp and without hiss and at a lower input-volume setting (1-6)? Am I connecting incorrectly? Please help me!
Hi Friend, I cannot record with an external mike I got an TAKSTAR an XLR with 3.5 mil female to the mike when I press 1 the 2 also is on I follow you but not luck any IDEA? thanks
Odd that you instruct not to use the SD Card Slot. I have SD cards on a number of devices and have never had an issue with a slot. In a professional setting, multiple SD cards are how you stay organized. Also, in many cases, it's how you hand-off the recordings. You can also playback from the H5. You don't need a computer to do that.
Great vid, i can just say that you could mention that wheels 1 and 2 are for external mics loudness control, and since i havent use it before, i concluded that myself from your tut. (I know, its obvieous, but would be nice to make whole introduction for noobs).
Watching this 48 hours before a film shoot, my first time doing sound/using the zoom h5, thank you so much for this helpful information!
good luck dude
Same here !
Hahah im watching 2h before shoot.. hahaha tryy me my guy
Lol, same here
I haven't used my H5 in months, so I needed a refresher on how to format an SD card, plus I learned some extra things in the process of listening to your tutorial. Much appreciated, thanks!
I love that a high school how-to vid is teaching all of us how to properly use an H5 :D
Being a/not that bright and b/terrified of technology, this is my go-to video everytime I forget the basics. Well done and thanks for your generosity.
Great delivery. No extra fluff, just useful explanations. Thanks
Thanks for this video! Exactly what I needed. Completely forgot about the mic running on phantom power. Thought it was broken for a minute. Perfect tutorial.
Very good instructional video on the Zoom H5. You can see the screen so clearly, thanks.
Holy Cow did you make this easy. I got a little overwhelmed with the manual. Thanks!!
I just got my H5 today! Thanks very much for the video. I've already tested the mic out and the audio blows my mind. I used to use a RODE Go Mic, so the upgrade was totally worth it.
Brilliant video. I'm watching this in 2024 and it easily explains everything I need to know. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this super practical guide! It helped me get up and running with my H5.

Hello, My Zoom H5 is on its way as I type and already I am so much for confident in using it for the first time. You are a great teacher and I am grateful. Rachel
Just bought the H5 online, going to pick it up from Best Buy now! Thanks for the tutorial!
Trying to download the files via the cable is like trying to push a gallon of water through a cocktail straw. The speed is like maple syrup. Especially when you're dealing with Wave files.
Dont worry about using the SD card.
There's no problem with it as long as you turn it off.

Hi,
Thank you for this. Very helpful. However, on my new Zoom H5, both the 1 and 2 lights come on simultaneously, instead of one at a time, as in your video. Would you know why?

Man. This shows you the benefits of having an actual teacher showing you something. Keep on Rocking Mr Watson; it ain't elementary ;-)
this was incredibly helpful!!! thank you so much!
At :40'ish seconds the volume up/down controls not only the headphone out port but also the internal speaker of the unit.
You don’t have to turn the Zoom H5 off and back on to use it as a card reader or USB interface. Just go to the USB tab in the menu and select which device you want.
How do you feel about him saying don't remove the SD card due to stress ?
KK

Why would you need 4 channels in this recorder?
I put in my sd card
But it says there is none
Do you know a possible reason why this is?
Thanks. Always a good video.
Thank you so much for your informative video!!! Exactly what I needed to hear.
Excellent video. Thank you.
Any instructions on how to delete the recorded files? I have not been able to find that.
Very helpful, thank you!
i would have wanted to know more about the specific details for use
Nice and easy explanation...
Great video. Which jack on the side (line out or headphones) do I use if I want to listen to the play back of any of the recorded material? Either I have horrible headphones, or I need a therapist.
Just curious about your caution with the SD slot… are they prone to breakage?
This tutorial rules thank you so much. I'm so excited for my new recorder.

My god...you saved my life..!!! Thanks for the great explanation ❤️
very nice and clear explaination
always turn off phantom power before unplugging a mic.
Yeah, it hurt me too when he unplugged it that way.
y do i need to do that? noob here.
why is that necessary? I've never turned off phantom power on any Audio-Technica or Sennheiser mic or Senheiser Lav Receivers, ever. Please explain the concern?

What is the difference between the sd card reader and audio interface?
Is this suitable for behind the wall recording
can you use both mics and the onboard mics at the same time?
Thank you for your video! I have a question, I am trying to connect a lavalier mic to the ZoomH5 and I don't get it :( I have a smartLav+ and I bought the SC3 adaptor but still I can't record, would you please give me any advice? thank you and have a nice day!!

Hello, Can lavalier microphone with 3.5mm jack be connected to Zoom h5? Thanks
Some of the instructions seemed common sense. Then I realized that the video was aimed at high school students!

Does it have any built in sound effects? Like say talking through a phone?
Good job, good tuitorial 😊
Shout out mr watson with the knowledge
That was perfect, thank you!
Thank you very much :)
Good product, but the Phantom Power +48V drains the batteries in less than 10 minutes. Also the Mini USB port is so outdated.
Hi Friend, I cannot record with an external mike I got an TAKSTAR an XLR with 3.5 mil female to the mike when I press 1 the 2 also is on I follow you but not luck any IDEA? thanks
