    that's really fantastic solution! I almost bought a røde usb mic, bit what I really need is a mic setup on my voice and a stereo mic pointed to my electric and/or acoustic guitars, as I teach nowdays 100% online on ZOOM (not the recorder, the meeting plataform). So, when I have the device connected via USB to my Mac, I still can have a XLR mic plugged to the Zoom and I still can use the stereo attached mics, as an USB microphone? Thanks for any hint and feedback.

    • @FamauMedia

      Hi - yes, I believe you can use a combination of audio channels from the Zoom H5 to feed into a Zoom meeting. E.g. an xlr mic for the guitar, and the lad mic plugged into the stereo module on top. I've not tried this myself though, so I'll pin this post in the hopes that someone can confirm!

    On Windows, make sure your sample rates match up. You may need to check it. When recording ie on Ableton it’s not a problem, but on Zoom calls it could sound like the wrong pitch if it isn’t matched up correctly. I had to go to my sound settings in windows and go to 48khz and it fixed this.

    Not sure is it the issue with only my unit(probably not), but when I record on the recorder itself the quality is good, but when I use it as an audio interface with my Mac the recording quality is somehow compromised. So I have the Deity D3 Pro connected to the Zoom H5 via 3,5mm then Zoom H5 directly to PC vis USB, when I select Audio Interface ( stereo ) on the Zoom there is no sound whatsoever and the sound bars are not moving. As soon as I unplug the Deity D3 Pro from the H5 it's working fine but of course using the built in stereo Mics of the H5 ( not what I want ). If you know any fix for this, it's much appreciated 😊

      I’d suggest another audio interface with dedicated output if that’s the case, this is really just for recording. Something like a Focusrite Scarlett - they seem to be the go-to brand 👌

    Hi Famau, I tested is but when I pressed play, I can only hear my voice, not the caller or music that was playing on my computer. What went wrong could you please advise?

    • @FamauMedia
      @FamauMedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nikolas! I'm very sorry, I'd originally named this video "Better Audio Recording", but I now realise that was wrong - this video only really focuses on better audio quality for your own sound input into either a chat, video call, recording etc.
      However, it's probably possible to record the whole conversation - you could probably do this by plugging the computer's audio-out into the Zoom H5's stereo 3.5mm port (on the XY stereo module), and plugging in some headphones to the headphone jack on the side of the H5 so you can still listen and monitor. You should then be able to use a mic either attached to the XLR jacks or connected directly to the computer. In theory this should work, but may need a few tweaks!

    • @pfstrikes
      @pfstrikes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure about the H5, but the H6 has a setting called “loop back“ within the audio interface that sends the sound from the computer back to the recorder. You just turn that on.

    Hey Famau I am currently using Video mic pro recording straight into the camera, looking at other TH-cam I like some of them have a real rich sound, which is the sound I looking for, I thinking to invest in a zoom H5 to up my audio, My question is do think there a big difference recording in camera vs recording externally using H5.

    • @FamauMedia
      @FamauMedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael, thanks for watching! I've just watched a few of your videos - really good stuff man, I've just cancelled my Amazon Prime! I'd say that your audio already sounds really nice - one easy tip for getting that richer sound is simply positioning the mic closer to the source. For example I've more recently been setting up the microphone on a boom pole - it's aimed just below my mouth from about two feet away, just out of view of the camera. This is also a great case for a lab mic.
      The main reason I invested in the H5 was for portable audio such as weddings and interviews. For most people in-camera audio will work just fine. It can vary between camera brands though e.g. the pre-amp in my old Nikon cameras sounded horrible compared to my Lumix or Sony cameras. My best advice would be to try adjusting your mic placement first to see how that effects the sound 🙂
      If you're interested I also did a little comparison video of all the microphones I've used (before I bought the H5 & NTG4+): th-cam.com/video/ntjV05Wn2Q0/w-d-xo.html

    • @FamauMedia
      @FamauMedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I find the time this week I’ll try it out for you - I’m pretty sure it will, though it’ll likely depend on what software you’re using to be able to separate the stems. E.g. in Final Cut Pro I’d have to option of using the mono stems or stereo, or even all of them if I wanted to.

    Thanks for your video! New subscriber here. When using the H5 on a Zoom meeting, would I be able to use the H5's microphone with a headphone plugged in as well to hear the meeting?

    • @FamauMedia
      @FamauMedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Christian, thanks for the sub! I've just been recording so I checked - yes you can, but it'd sound far better just plugging headphones into the computer. I tested it with Spotify playing and there's a definite drop in quality using the H5's headphone jack, but perhaps that's just my 2nd hand unit 🤷‍♂️

      Christian were you using a external mic or only the mic that within the H5?

    • @christiancanalita6487
      @christiancanalita6487 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@louisverville Using the H4N, I was using an external mic plugged into channel 2 and my iPhone (for music and metronome) plugged into channel 1. The only thing with this setup is I get the iPhone on the left and the external mic on the right. It would be nice if both were in mono or have the option to use channel 1 or 2 with the H4N mic.

    Great video - very helpful thank you. If you have a moment would you mind answering a couple of questions. I am going to use this to record vocals that I will then need to edit in Garage Band on my MAC. Can you tell me how once I plug it into the MAC how I would then get it to show up in Garage Band? Do all the audio files show up on the computer screen? How do you keep track of all your audio files on the Zoom? Also - do you know if you can plug in headphones to the Zoom so you can listen to a backing track while recording? I will be using an XLR microphone for better audio quality. I was going to purchase the Scarlet Solo interface but then after seeing your video thinking this would be better - more portable for trying to record in a closet etc. Many thanks!!!! I hope this isn't too much of a bother. Subscribing to your channel. Thanks again.!

      Hey! Ok, I'll try and do this in order:
      - I'd imagine recording straight into Garage Band it'd create the new audio file in your timeline, much like recording a voice-over in Final Cut Pro. If that's the case then you can probably just right-click on it to reveal in finder. Otherwise, you could just record onto the Zoom H5 using an SD card - then you can just plug the card into the computer and copy the files over (this is what I do while recording my talking-head studio videos).
      - Keeping track of files - I always copy the files off the SD card and make sure I have back-ups. I then stick the card back in the recorder and format it ready for the next recording 👌
      - You can indeed plug headphones into the Zoom H5 - I think if you're using the H5 as an interface (plugged into the computer), you can then go into your sound settings and select the Zoom H5 as your output device. To keep things simpler I'd suggest plugging headphones into the computer you're recording to for the backing track. If it's like Final Cut Pro voice-overs, it'll automatically mute the rest of the timeline while recording - but you should be able to change that in your voice-over settings before recording.
      Hope that helps!

      @@FamauMedia Thank you for taking the time to get back to me. Much appreciated. I will try all your suggestions. Just ordered the recorder today but it is a Zoom H4 because I really only need it for an XLR microphone - this has only 2 XLR inputs. Won't be plugging in anything else. The company I ordered it from suggested that I might be able to plug a cable into my Zoom over to an ipad or iphone with the backing track. Use the Zoom headphone jack for headphones - plug in the XLR microphone and then be able to listen to the backing track while making the recording right there. Then import the audio as you suggested via the card and then from there either use the full recording as is or lay in the backing track as a separate track. Gets confusing. Attacking this project this weekend. I will let you know what works. Thank you for your advice.

    Hello !! Thanks for your video :)
    How do I do if I want to use my H5 mics to record in live my piano ?
    I want to make a facebook live and use the Zoom H5 mics and sound, if possible go threw a DAW and had some effects :)
    HELP !!!! Thanks... !

    • @FamauMedia
      @FamauMedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Dexter, sorry for the late reply! Honestly I have no idea what a DAW is, my audio knowledge only really covers video recording. I'm guessing from what you've said that you could feed the piano through one of the XLR / 1.4" jacks and vocals through either the other XLR / 1/4" or through the stereo input. If you have any effects pedals you could plug those in-line with whichever source you want it to effect. I'm sure there's probably a way of adding live effects through Logic Pro or similar software, though I've never used any dedicated audio softwares.
      Hope that might help, my apologies if not!

      I think the only buzz in this is possibly from my several hard-drives running in the background - I always forget to switch them off! I do also have trouble when it's windy outside as I film in my garage 🤦‍♂️
