  • In today's video I discuss Bethesda Game Studio's two successful games: Fallout 4 and Skyrim; and compare them with the upcoming release of Starfield. I give my reasons why the success of Skyrim and Fallout make me optimistic for Starfield's pending release.

BGS fanboy here, been playing since Morrowind and I agree with you 100%. Some resl hot takes there according to some but we know there is no gaming experience greater than a BGS onpen world.

Yeah, skill ups through use is just more immersive than gaining xp imo

I never thought of the skill system adding to immersion. I think it breaks immersion when you wind up 'training' skills like in Skyrim rather than just playing like I do in Fallout 4.

If you haven’t yet go play Kingdom Come Deliverance. It’s prob the most immersive rpg I’ve ever played. You level skills by using them also just like Elder Scrolls.

I liked the building mechanics for fallout 4, but to me it really feels like a gimmick after a while.
I really also felt let down by the story and the role playing elements. It just feels like bethesda can’t write compelling characters or scripts and it felt like you didn’t really have any choices that mattered. It just came down to choice of faction, and some were obviously good, some were obviously bad.

I think the settlement system in Fallout 4 is very deep and interesting. I spent many hours designing, building and assigning workers to it.
I couldn't disagree more regarding Fallout 4's story. There are many memorable characters: Piper, Danse and Nick. They story offers many choices and has multiple endings that are very different from one another. There is more to it than just faction choice.

I am so excited for Starfield and am really rooting for Bethesda. After Fallout 76 and the internet constantly dragging them down for the past few years, they really need a win; and I believe they can deliver. Skyrim is personally my favorite game of all time(Especially with mods) mainly because I feel like you can role-play a bit better in that game than Fallout, and I also think the world feels more alive. But Fallout comes close!
I'm honestly nervous though that, since this is an Xbox/PC exclusive, the PlayStation fan club are going to only say negative things about this game just because they can't play it. Lets hope it's so good even they can't argue with its quality.

I see this as a return to form for Bethesda. They are at their best when making open world, single player rpgs. I am optimistic.
