  • In this video I show how to convert 2D packaging designs into super realistic 3D boxes suitable for your product renders. We start with a simple design which will teach you the basics and then I'll give some tips for more complex designs. Thanks for watching.

A lot of Blender tutorials quote shortcut keys (e.g. "hit Shift-S") but don't tell you what function you're performing or where on the menus/UI to find this option. As a Blender newbie, and someone who uses dozens of applications, I'm never going to remember shortcuts and just need to get an idea of where things are. Remembering some shortcuts may come later. This is a handy tutorial, however I'd like to see how to get dieline artwork from Illustrator into Blender and use some kind of planar mapping to map flat artwork onto the resultant shape before folding for a 100% accurate fit.

I don't know why you don't have more subscribers when your videos are better then channels like the CG Geek.

Leaving my review as someone who has never used blender before and opened it up today to try to make a package. I had to figure out how to add an image on my own as it seemed like you just did a simple right click and dropped something in, this was not the case. Where I'm stuck on now is trying to change the orientation of my camera and set my reference image flat and level in my grid so I can begin to unpack how I can make my own shapes. So far it looks like I won't get much farther without doing a lot more googling. It would have been nice if you could have taken a few seconds to plug any tutorial videos you've made at the beginning or informed us that this tutorial was for those with prior knowledge of the program.

Great video. A little bit too quick for me since I'm a graphic designer who try to learn Blender but that's help. Thank you. I would pay for a slow training for packaging in Blender...

Hi Ludovic, thanks for watching- I'm glad I could help out! This video was more aimed at more experienced blender users, hence the quick and direct format, but I'll definitely slow the videos down in the future. I'd suggest looking at other longer format videos from other people, some of them are a bit older but the techniques still stand and they go into more detail than I did. Thanks.
Here are a few good videos about boxes/packaging design I found:

@@tjsbear1102 Thank Tom for your answer and your time. Yes these packaging tutorial links were good before 2.8, now Blender Interface changed too much to follow these tutorials when you're a beginner :D The only one I added to my wishlist is the one from Derek Elliott that I will make soon.
Thank you again and nice video.
      Take care.

@@LudovicCharlierI'm also stuck in this same dilemma. Someone's help deciphering where these are in the new blender would be a lifesaver!

I'm stuck on the part where I am trying to fold the edges. I am not able to select the edges and bend them like you. Any advice?

make sure you click on the vertice (line) where you want it to bend and do "shift S" that will bring up this little menu select "cursor to active". make sure that whole "face" of the bend is selected; the one you want to fold. Hope this helps.

Very good tutorial, unfortunately too fast for a beginner like me !
