In the first 3 minutes I knew this was going to be a good video. Down to earth dude with what looks like a beverage of choice and his vape. Camera set up recording himself just talking about what he's learned. This is the kind of content I appreciate on TH-cam and other platforms! You da man!
Appreciate you for the review. I have the ZT1 50" with the star pattern. I stupidly ran the stock blades until they were pitted and rounded the first season on my new 3.5 acre property. I have lots of small stumps and rocks I wasn't aware of at first. I was getting stragglers and uneven cuts which forced me to cut the same area again. I finally wised up and purchased 3 sets that I rotate on the regular. After 4 or 5 full cuts I change them out and sharpen the removed ones. Beautiful cuts now. No belt issues so far after ~150 hours but I went ahead and purchased a spare deck belt just to have on hand. My only issue is the steer arms do not stay lined up even after adjustment. They're not off by much so it's not too bothersome for now. There's no shortage of bad reviews on this mower but those are usually from prima-donnas just out for those coveted clicks. It's a damned fine mower.
I just bought a ZT2 50" on Monday, and I've only used it once. Lousy weather has prevented my greater experimentation, but I can't wait to put it more comprehensibly through it's paces. I look forward to years of joyful satisfaction.
Great job showing and telling, now if I get a cub cadet like yours I’ll know more about it to fix it. Right on for showing and telling,I got sold cub cadet not like yours but I am working on it now. It got a 50” deck got all the parts for it, and I am rebuilding the motor and going 20 over on horses it’s a 18 hp poring it will be more horse’s. I got the hole lawnmower a part painting it all it will be like new. If motor not good I’ll get bigger motor new ,well thanks again for showing telling and have a great day will see ya next time see ya bye.
Thanks. Cub cadet is a great piece of machinery. I no longer use this setup due to the business at the time flopped. I now run my own business. Hope all works out for ya!
Thanks for the info. I just got the same mower today and thought I would look at what problems that I may encounter. Very informative.. especially about the type of blades it takes.. My old Cub Cadet lasted 19 years until the left hydraulic is now having problems after I mow for awhile and it is no longer available to replace..
Cool video, I'm going to pay-forward an old tip given to me. An old-timer once told me to always raise the deck all the way to the highest setting to better align all the pullies before engaging the deck blades. He said it was easier on the belts by not forcing them to engage on an angle. I have to say, seems to be doing the trick. I do it on my LT1050, and my Z330R. Good luck.
I got an Ultima ZT1 from HD and it came delivered free. Looked great and heard great things. But my paperwork was all ruined by water and appeared to be missing a few things. Not sure if it sat or was previously returned. Initially contacted costumer service to get new manuals and such. By the time they had contacted me I had mowed my side yard and with mower full throttle, deck at 3.5, and slow speed it was leaving lots of standing grass and such. Told HD CS about it and they only offered to return it and not replace or fix it. Still hope to get a new ZT1 but maybe I’ll try another store and pick up in person.
I understand. One thing I’ve learned with cub cadet is it’s a hit or miss with those mowers. I no longer run this mower, but it was good to me when I had it.
Dang. I just ordered one from Home Depot. It will be delivered Friday and now I’m nervous because I won’t be home. Just my wife. I’ll have her FaceTime me thanks to your comment. Thanks.
When it comes to springs on lawn mowers, a shoe string is your friend. Loop the string around the end of the spring and pull. If you have a good area to work, you can just make a simple loop in the string so you have a handle to grasp as you pull. For installation, do the same thing. Get one end of the spring mounted, hook the shoe string on and pull it over whatever is to anchor the spring to.
Correct I have the star on mine. I'm at 80hours so far. Picked up a Cub ZTR 50 older model been running it for 2 weeks now the 50 is pretty cool. Not as comfortable as the ZT1 but the cut is just as good, surprised me being the mower is 15years old.
i have never seen so many cub cadets with bad transmissons till this yr i spent almost 7 grand and now questioning if i made right choice then heard MTD and black and decker bought all except john deer they need to stop selling throw aways after yr there all light duty if it says MTD be where. thank you
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Another reputable TH-camr who reviewed the ZT1 50 said the 50 and 54 probably use the same blades...the decks are different for overlap. I'm not sure but it seems right. That's crazy about the belt...so the spring that came off did that? Thanks again for posting/sharing.
Rip off the plastic seat bumpers and replace with 3 inch motorcycle seat springs barrel type and send them back to Mr cadet receiver pays, stick in a brick or 2 for fun.
Is it normal for there to be black smoke on startup when the choke is applied? Runs like a champ with no smoke when once I take it out of choke position.
its normal. sometimes on cold starts when choke is needed a little more, it will cause that black smoke to show due to it being rich at startup. Nothing to worry about.
@@golfcoursekutz ok! I just got the 42” zt1 with the 7000 Kohler. Only has about 2 hrs on it and when it mowed today I noticed with the choke on it was spitting and sputtering with lots of black smoke. Put once I dropped it into the throttle position, it runs smooth and clean.
@@golfcoursekutz correct! After I mowed I was cleaning the mower off and started it back up and noticed the sputtering and smoke as I was about to put it into the throttle position. All the way up on throttle is choke position, then you click down an inch into full throttle. So if the mower is warm is it ok to start it in the throttle position? Instead of the choke.
Biggest thing is to service it and not abuse it It’s not a dozer needs to be warmed up and cooled down People are destroying machines and crying about it Strange noise shut it down Asap

The information about the blades can be seeing under the seat. Your Cub like sport car, love it. ✌️
Good to know!
Great tips and video bro..Keep up the good work !!!
Thanks! We about to get started up this season. stay tuned

No problem 👍
Deck belt don’t remove spring just walk the belt around the pto pulley it’s easy to do

Wow, thats amazing. Cub Cadet handles the business. But I can agree. That ZT1 is comfortable!

The 50 and 54 have different size blades. I don’t think the spring did it. I think when the belt broke, the spring popped off..
thank you
You're welcome

try a ferris or exmark

Just sharpen the blades
