The Russian Federation's Roman Vlasov defeats Armenia's Arsen Julfalakyan to win gold in the greco-roman 74kg wrestling event at the ExCeL - North Arena 2 as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games (5 August 2012).
The 1900 Games were the only ones where wrestling was not present in any shape or form. As from the 1908 Olympic Games in London, Greco-Roman wrestling has always been included on the programme. Since the 1920 Antwerp Games, there have been both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling competitions.

I was a high school wrestler and I don't know why they would get rid of this sport, it's way better than half of the sports in the Olympics

Andrew Hendrie rightly so ...... it's one of the sports played in ancient Olympics and it was part of the earlier Games. Stupid of the IOC to removed the sport and replaced it with golf.
+Rico Suave Yeah unfortunately the IOC will pretty much make decisions based on money. It's understandable though, of course.
Honestly I'd rather a combat sport I do be taken out of the Olympics than have it changed significantly, such as what you see with judo. They pretty much told the International Judo Federation either change judo so it looks less like wrestling, or it's out of the Olympics. So you change significant aspects of a martial art and combat practice so it looks nice for spectators.
+Bruh not only is it unwatchably boring, its rules are so complicated and change so frequently its simply not a spectator sport. Sumo is the only wrestling style that is also a spectator sport.

Other countries have that type of wrestling too takedown and stuff is called folkstyle wrestling. This one is Greco-Roman style
+superzomman What Angel said. This is the Greco-Roman variant where you aren't allowed to grab the opponent by the legs or even use your own legs in defense.
The olympics also have a freestyle variant where all that is allowed.
You are wrong. The thing you are talking about is Freestyle Wrestling, the thing you watch is Greco Roman Wrestling. In freestyle you can touch the legs but in greco roman you can't.
