9 months ago the bellow comment was a dream. 5 Days ago I got my first medal on Laser Standard. Current weight 84.900 kg !! Thank you for the inspiration!
This was a summer i'll never forget, this makes me proud to be british.Every single london 2012 video i watch brings a gut wrenching feeling that its gone,so many happy memories of our small island nation coming together and showing the world we love everyone........
Man I miss racing lasers and 470's! The starts were always very chaotic as we all jockeyed for the best start position, everyone yelling 'STARBOARD!", near misses and sometimes crashes. I truly enjoyed the strategy of the sport as well, stealing wind, looking for good wind and smoother water. Nothing beats the sound of a humming centerboard on a fast broad reach!
Brian Campbell Good an ya Roy! Brian your a nit picking non-correct ass. Are you a school teacher who is crap at his job?? In case you missed it he also mentioned 470's which can have humming centreboards, which I agree is a sweet moment especially on a broad reach if the wind is blowing enough! Happy Sailing Roy whatever your craft now...
45 secondes d'écart entre le 1er et le dernier, c'est dire le niveau, chaque mètre, chaque seconde, chaque manoeuvre tactique comptent, c'est vraiment le haut niveau !!!!!
How cool is this. My very first and own sailboat was a Laser. I learned how to sail on that little fast boat. I never was able to make it fly like these pros did, but it was a blast to sail in all conditions.
@@MsPlaybook NZL is starboard though. They cross again in a few seconds, and NZL ducks if that's what you're looking at. Anyway I also just watched again and I think you can just make out NZ yelling "Protest!"
Man I'dlove some captions on this, the ambient/course audio is so loud that I can't reasonably listen in while working *studiously* in the office.. I swear I am working hard on this fresh and beautiful Friday!
Near the end when he was starting to say it was inevitable, I was worried Slingsby might do a death roll. I'm glad I got to see one, at least kinda. :)
Why do you give away the winner in the title? It ruins it for anybody who hasn't seen the race yet. The title should just say "Men's Laser Sailing Gold London Olympics 2012."
I thought I understood sailing but apparently not, why are you focused on AUS and CYP if they are in 9th and 10th place. Also if they're in dead last how is he the gold winner????
Late reply but describing how it works (based on what I've read): 1. There are 10 opening races before the medal race, where all of the ~40 qualified sailors will race. 2. In each race, players are awarded points based on their position. For example, if I got 1st in a race, I will get 1 point and if I get 5th in the subsequent race, I will now have a total of 6 points. 3. After all 10 opening races, the points will be added up. Here, another thing that happens is that the race with the lowest score for each sailor will not be considered. 4. So if I come 1st in 9 races and 20th in the 10th race, my score will be 9 since the committee would've removed my 20th place finish while summing up the points. 5. Based on the above calculations, the 10 sailors with the lowest scores will move on to the medal race. 4. The medal race has a similar scoring system however the points double here. For example, Simon from Germany who finished first would now gain 2 points instead of 1, and Slingsby who finished 9th would gain 18 points. 5. Now the total points including the medal race are summed up, and the top three (the three lowest scorers!) receive their medals. Now this shows how insane Slingsby's performance was during the opening races, as he could have very well not even raced the medal race and would have still won a gold regardless. Kontides from Cyprus was the next best contender, which is why there was a focus on them despite both of them being 9th and 10th respectively. Hope it was clear!
I `m trying to get back to Sailing after long break and i wonder if i should go back with Laser Standard or with a Finn .I Started to hit the gym pretty hard so i can shape up and i`m currently 94kgs with aim to get 85 lean. I may be able to get Lase cheaper than the Finn so could you please advise if 85 kgs is good for laser i`m 182 tall . Thanks
Thanks very much mate. I`m on a strict diet and training 2 times a day to reach that however having in mind my Broad back/shoulders and mesmorph build i may only be able to go for Finn. Anyways Thanks ;)

I agree, but I think fencing is the most underrated and misunderstood sport.

Sailing isn’t a sport, its an experience.
SaddenRain it sure is a sport, it is really hard to keep the boat straight and you need to do that full time.

Lasers use dagger boards. Broad reach is not really fast.

No, because Slingsby would have just instantly rolled him
