What a brilliant slick performance. Great with the audience as well.

Reminds me of Bob Monkhouse a lot - which is probably why he was so good doing quiz shows as well

@@ChrisHopkinsBass he was probably better at quiz shows than magic in my opinion. From what I read in his biography he was also an amazing down-hill skier, an accomplished bummer, and an expert painter.

Debbie joined him four years later. His talent as far back as 1975 is undeniable - very skilled and quick witted.

True pro. The audience must have thought " oh shit" another card trick merchant. Then he went off with an ovation. That is skill.

I remember watching as a small child when he won the ITV talent show Opportunity Knocks back in 1970, which got me interested in magic, shame there is NO archive footage of that show, which was his VERY FIRST TV appearance....

3:00 That fiver (according to the menu/chalkboard seen in other clips) would have bought FIFTY meat pies at the Wheeltappers and Shunters Club in 1975.

Those two tricks were his classic routines. There was no-one who could do the Chop Cup like him.

World class Brit - he should have gone to the states to make him a household name there... still he made plenty money here. Very pro Tory, he once said on a BBC Breakfast Time interview that he'd seen people attempting to escape from Communists being shot at by guards ....which had made his mind up regarding politics.

Whatever your opinions of PD when it came to Magic he knew his stuff. Beautifully contained. Tremendous stage confidence and brilliant audience control. Rapid patter(must have been influenced by Ken Dodd as so many are) which is so good for misdirection
A TV star in the making. Even had his own cathphrase, not a lot, before he was on tv. Top performer who like Ken Dodd has i would imagine influenced others in the world of Necromancing (which has nothing to do with Sir Jimmy😂😂).

First Briton to create magic, first Briton to create a magical trick. Second Briton to write a book on magic. Inventor of many tricks, including Indian spoon trick, and spaghetti belly trick. Rumored to use carbon monoxide poisoning of audience to create hallucinations. All round genius.
