    This turned out to be the best Steven Seagal interview ever. He talked like one of those "old school" martial arts masters lol. Mr. Adkins did a great job by staying away from controversial questions and stayed on the path of good martial arts and movies topics. Im not interested on questions like "who's the best actor" or "who would win in a fight with ..xxx" etc..Those are just things people ask to cause controversy and have more cheap views. Mr. Adkins did a wonderful job by not doing this...we don't need more controversy in the martial arts, Thanks Mr. Adkins.

      Seagal and Adkins said something that many people dont say, UFC is a sport and entertainment, I understand it that way, that is why many fighters of this show act like that or they dont have the respect or discipline like the traditional martial artists.

      @@david29497 People use Steven Seagal stories to poke fun at him like bullies do in school to get a laugh from their friends. It just shows their poor character, no one is perfect. Back in Jackie Chan early days stunt men used to break arms and bones during scenes often. It was often full contact. No one is perfect, but people like to stay relevant with their version of Seagal story as it's become cool to mock him. This guy have you a positive account of Seagal, but fact that you're asking about something negative just shows how much negative stories are popularized and the positive ones silenced. Machida UFC also said Seagal has always treated him well, even though they tried to trigger him into saying something negative during interviews. I think he's used to using his own guys that's trained in aikido to not break their wrists, etc and knows how to fall mostly. Obviously not ok to really punch someone. but heard stories of many with inflated egos (actors) who'd do that in a fight scene.

      Maybe he got his ass handed back to him. I’m joking here of course. But listen to this -
      At one point I remember reading a magazine MMA or something, where Steven Seagal was talking shit about other styles and how ineffective they are and how good he is etc. So Chuck Norris and other senseis openly challenged him to a legit fight. They said any one of them if he fights them at any point in time, he’ll have their respect.
      He went quiet for the longest time and of course never agreed to the challenge.
      Good thing too because they’d whip his ass! Aikido is lovely to watch! But myself being an experienced martial artist I can tell you that it just isn’t. I wish it wasn’t the case.
      To add:
      I do think it would be effective IF you included other styles like Kempo , Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu of course. THEN we can talk.

    • @Domzdream
      @Domzdream 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      motivation pirate
      It’s a tough one to talk about because I’ve worked with senseis who actually is a very strong man, who knows how to wallop!
      Yes I agree that aikido is one of the least effective styles in existence, but it does have that very few proper effective techniques. And if you can master those few techniques and not burden yourself with so many which there are in aikido, then I think it would be a really effective style to have.

    • @laszlodajka9914
      @laszlodajka9914 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Domzdream well I think Aikido should adjust its students training, cause when they say 'you dont need muscles to perform these techniques' untrained people will be misdirected to think they don't need to build their physical strength and stamina plus practise fighting in sparring. With this if they try to apply their stuff in a real fight they will be unprepared physically and technically. So I guess they could work around this problem if they adapt.

    In as much as I usually hate Mr. Seagal's douchebaggery, I have to admit that he acted respectable in this interview. I was worried at the beginning how this would turn out. I was hoping he would not resort to his narcissistic antics and make stupid claims about his awesomeness like he did in the past. I was happy to see there was very little to none of that. He really carried himself with poise on this one. Or maybe I should credit Mr. Atkins also for handling this interview well? Because Lord knows what answer we would get if he asked something like "Who do you think is the toughest guy right now in Martial arts movies". He might have flipped an ego switch right there. I am glad that they stayed on point, talking about the discipline, film making, and there was no disrespect or badmouthing whatsoever about a particular fighting system or a person. So yeah! I have to concede, this was a fun interview. I hope Mr. Seagal would carry himself like this consistenly

      You need not worry. He is respectful. Him bad mouthing other martial artists is all synthetic drama. He’s one of the first Americans to train in Japan...and you can bet that he’s been taught humbleness and respect there. Japanese culture resonates with respect and humbleness. He legit admitted that Scott Adkins’ background in martial arts is more diverse than his. I see no ego.

I used to run dozens of genre events, including martial arts expositions and we had a huge number of masters coming in to do demonstrations and we sought out Mr. Seagal. He made that process a nightmare and charged us an arm and a leg and wanted top billing above all of the other masters we had at the event. We only had him out once and then went with JCVD, who only came out once and was awesome to have as an MC. Ultimately, going forward with David Carradine who was a disaster in our St. Louis event. I’m surprised Seagal was this tame in this interview. Glad he is starting to mellow out.

Steven Seagal made some really great movies that had some very deep themes and topics and I also respect how he got involved with not just the martial arts with Aikido but also Buddhism and has supported Buddhist orphanages across Asia. Scott Adkins is a great martial artist and actor, I think it’s a disservice that he hasn’t been given his own franchise of films or leads in major films because I would see him being a huge success more so than he already is which is great.

      They're're both really good natural actors. I have met actors myself and 90% of the people out there need acting training from classes. Van Damme and Seagal are way better than most people. I think it's just because they're so disciplined with martial arts, that it just transferred over to them being disciplined with our emotions when it comes to acting. They're extremely good natural actors. They definitely do not get credit for that. Remember Siskel or Ebert or both of them mentioning that Van Damme is a great actor. What impact exactly? His first few were great action flicks but they didn't really did anything for the genre. Even his best movie that people claim is Under Siege he is the worst part of the movie, Tommy Lee Jones and Garry Busey stole that movie.
      And I say this as a guy that watched every single of his movies up until 2005-6 (where he could barely move any everything was being filmed using a stunt double).

    No matter what you can say about Steven Seagal you can’t deny his movies in the 80s and Mid90s were some of the best action movies of all time. You also can’t deny he’s really good at aikido. I did a aikido for eight years got a black belt and we used to watch Steven Seagal videos trying to get his techniques down and they are very difficult. He’s very fast no doubt a skilled martial artist even if you don’t like Akidio many of those wrist locks do work, we used them in the police academy all the time. One reason I stopped doing Akidio is because I broke my wrist twice and my body just couldn’t take it anymore.
